The new owner named "Sal" had no business working on a 6.0 Diesel engine in my Ford Van. Every time he worked on it things got worse & after $9,000+ in repairs it should have ran well with a low mileage vehicle. Worst part is when he wrongfully recommended I then replace turbo in my engine. So, I had to ask for a 2nd opinion. "Left Coast Diesel" confirmed that "The Repair Shop" was wrong. The turbo was fine. The real problem was fuel injector + engine codes pointing to the need to replace the engine. So, if "The Repair Shop" had done my turbo it would have been an engine replacement thereafter. NOT COOL. Sal, the owner, offered me $1,000+ discount off my last repair. But that's a cheap consolation prize considering the scope of the work he did which ended up with a TOTAL LOSS on my diesel engine replacement requiring another $18,000+. Sal, also refused to make good on the repairs he failed on. And then started ignoring emails and phone calls. Always promises he will call me but not a single follow through in a year. Sal and his crew are not as capable as the original owner "Judd". And, I'm horrifically disappointed & financially screwed over for $27,000+. ...... & Now it's time to buy a different vehicle. This is a review long overdue. I've been here multiple times and, honestly, I will keep on going to them. Their service is phenomenal. Sal goes above and beyond to get the job done. My car needed tire pressure sensors installed. They were able to do it but the computer wasn't registering them. Instead of just referring me to someone else, he went to another place to try to get it done and, when that failed, took the time to go to the dealership to see what they could do. As a person who works a 9-5pm in Berkeley, there was no way I could do that on my own within business hours. I really appreciate the effort and lengths these guys go to. They're also easy to talk to and genuinely want to help, not just for the money, but because they care. They're awesome and I highly recommend them! read more

I just needed job to be done checked them on yelp and didn't want to look for other mechanics they gave me highest estimate for most expensive parts, promised me that my car will be ready same day than it wasn't but I picked it up next afternoon. Just took my new (to me) truck in to The Repair Shop today for a cruise control that didn't work. Prior to my arrival Judd(?) took the time to research that year and model (1996 Dodge Ram diesel truck) and found a bulletin that described the problem. He had it fixed in about a half hour and charged me forty bucks. This is the second time I've used this shop and he has found the problem immediately and fixed it both times. I do not recommend this shop. If they find any kind of defects, even a bit of rust on the license plates, they will report it to all vehicle history companies!!! Meaning, that when the time comes to sell your car and you print your carfax report, the report will have several defects that were written by this mechanic! I will never use the shop again nor will I recommend anybody to go there. Last Friday Sal quoted me on the phone $300 to change an alternator in my 99 dodge Caravan. This sounded reasonable, this is a basic job and doesn't sound like a quote that could be too far off and so I took it to him Saturday morning. Well that afternoon he calls and tells me it's going to cost 490 something dollars. By this time of the day on Saturday I had no other options I needed my van for work on Sunday, So I had him go ahead and do the work. When I picked it up I complained about the price a little bit and he thought he was doing me some big favor by knocking 5% off of the price of the part which amounted to like $12 and something cents and then realized that he also needed to deduct the core charge from my bill which was another $30. I still ended up paying $461 to get my van that day. That's still $160 above the quote he gave me the day before. Come to find out he added A minimum of $100 on top of the price of the part for the alternator plus he charged me an hour and a half labor for a job that should've only taken an hour for a mechanic who knows what they're doing. By the way their labor rate is $130 per hour. Don't get me wrong, I have complete confidence in the mechanics work. But I definitely feel like Sal price gouged me and took advantage of the fact that he knew I needed my van ASAP. A few days later I went back asking him why he charge me so much for the alternator. After admitting he added $100 to the price, and again thinking he was doing me some big favor decided to give me another 10% off for the part so he gave me back another $26. Well I do appreciate his efforts to try to make me happy I know I overpaid by $135 for a very simple job. For this reason I will never go back there again nor will I recommend this shop to anybody I know. In fact I will warn my friends against going to the shop. But if you don't mind being over charged for parts and labor be my guest. The real bummer is that this shop has been in the area for a very long time and has always had a great reputation. I knew the owners 15 20 years ago and I knew Judd 7 years ago and never had an experience like this, they were always very helpful and weren't just out for your money. I am sorry to see the style of the current management for the shop. It's just plain greedy and dishonest. Hopefully this post will make him think a little bit about that but I'm not counting on it. If I could put 0 stars I would but I guess I have to press at least 1 star to post. Sad! read more

I was in a real pickle with my Subaru. It needed new CV axles, and the rear differential was shredded so it wasn't even driveable. To make matters worse, I tried to get one of my friends to work on it and he got so frustrated that he gave up. So there it was sitting in the driveway in pieces, and I had gotten a call from the city to clean it up or get a citation. A lot of other mechanics wouldn't touch it, due to the fact that it was already taken apart. In addition, most of them quoted me around $1600 for all the work that I need done. The folks at The Repair Shop not only drove by to inspect my car and see what they could do about it, but then told me that I could take it in as-is. I had it towed, and they fixed it up, and charged me about $600 less than the other shops that I called. I am so happy that they were able to save my car. I was afraid that I had taken it apart too much. 5-Stars all around! read more

I have done business with Judd for a long time. He has worked on my vehicles provided by my employer as well as my personal ones. He is honest and smart, and if you need a shop that can deal with electrical and carb(fuel) issues on old 60's and 70's cars, go see him. For 80's on up with regards to electronics and fuel injection, he can run down your problem and get it done. All normal mechanical repairs are all in a days work. read more

If your looking for a great mechanic go to The Repair Shop. There are several mechanic and repair shops on Erickson, but keep driving down to the end of the street until you reach Landini. There you will find a couple of experience and qualified mechanics that will not only do a great job, but give you a great price. Jud and Tim go the extra mile to figure out what the problem is. The don't nickle and dime you, you get a honest and fair price. He installed a battery for me at no cost for the installation. I had gotten an estimate at another repair shop for $60 dollars more! I had previously had a new radiator installed at another shop and Jud told me he could have done it for 200 dollars less! I also had described a problem with my DVD audio system, he figured out what the problem was and fixed it at no cost. I don't even live in the area, but I would definitely come down to Concord to get my next repair work done here again. Thanks again! read more
