We had just gotten off our cruise to Mexico and we're looking for a quick breakfast before heading to the Getty Museum for a few hours. Not living in LA means YELP is our go to especially since we must find a place that offers gluten free options for the little. I came across this place on the yelp search and it claimed 100 percent gluten free and for that I was intrigued and extremely thankful. This location was in Beverly Hills, parking was easy(we found street, metered parking) not a lot of traffic for it being a Saturday morning but we were new to that area so I cant say what the norm is. When we walked in the bakery was busy with happy customers, amd we were immediately greeted by a couple of the most genuinely nice people of whom I assume are the owners (sorry I forgot to ask). Usually when walking into a bakery that has gluten free options my daughter always looks to me.to see what she can have and from that she willl make a couple or selections, all of which is extremely limited. This time I was able to tell her she could choose anything. Thw way her eyes lit up when she saw the glazed donut, it makes a mom heart want to cry when she gets to experience something so normal as a glazed donut but in this case a glazed donut on a whole other culinary level( so amazingly delicious). She told the gluten free genius helping her that she had never had a glazed donut and he packaged it up on the house. Hannah then proceeded to order as many things from the case as I would allow for the moment. She just wanted to try all the things she had never been able to before. I did have to promise we would be back to buy more the next time we come to LA. She settled on most of the sweets although this bakery has bagels and sourdough bread. Shes not much of a bread eater in general unless its smothered with Nutella so next time we will try the breads. So back to the experience, we sat down and she tried a bite or 2 of everything and LOVED IT ALL!! The glazed donut met all of her expectations and blew her mind. Coming in to second place was the Oreo babka and the croissant. Before leaving Hannah went to thank them and tell them she loved it, she was then given a second item to try(the chocolate croissant). We took it to go and she tried it in the car on the way to the Getty, she was in pure food bliss. Thank you for creating a bakery for the adults and the littles that is safe and delicious. I enjoyed sitting and working at this establishment but the food itself was so sad and disappointing I got this strawberry brioche donut per the recommendation of the cashier. This is the worst donut I've had in my life. The texture is like crumbly dry cake and it tastes salty with a wine-like flavored frosting. Nothing strawberry-like or brioche-like about this donut. Both my friends also tried the donut and were wtf I genuinely don't know how this could be sold and recommended to anybody. I will start at the end: I walked out with a Bananas Foster Hot Honey Cinnamon Bun and Glazed Donut. Since everything is gluten free, this place is like Willy Wonka's for Celiacs. Young man at the counter was recently here from New Orleans and I was wearing my 1987 jazz fest T-shirt, which happened to be the first of my 20 Jazz fest experiences. I went for the bananas Foster because I've eaten at Brennan's restaurant in New Orleans that invented the bananas Foster. I later ate the bananas Foster cinnamon bun and it, like the donut, had to be eaten in 2 separate stages. Like the 12 stages at JazzFest, this joint is an embarrassment of riches. I've been to Modern Bread and Bagel three times. Their location is great. Right in the heart of Beverly Hills. They are just South of Sephora on Beverly Drive. They have comfy indoor and outdoor seating. Very easy to pick up to-go. They have brunch all day. Special menus for the month. Coffee and specialty coffee drinks. They are 100% gluten free and certified kosher. I revisited Modern Bread and Bagel twice more since my last review (which was delivery). Service in house was great both times. But the quality of the food was vastly different. On one visit we ordered the raspberry matcha loaf, orange loaf, and chocolate zucchini loaf. The raspberry matcha was my favorite of the three. We also got the potato leak quiche which was yummy. I ordered the Farmer's Market bagel but when I got home I noticed they gave me Spicy Feta bagel instead. Tried calling to let them know but they didn't pick up. It turned out to be a happy accident. We wanted to go back and get it again. We liked it so much. I also got the zaatar tuna which was tasty but it was a bit too crunchy for me with lots of celery. Some people may like it that way but I like it more smooth. My next visit however, was not a success. It was, again, a to-go order. Sadly, none of the food tasted fresh. I ordered pastries and the Spicy Feta again. The bagel on the Spicy Feta was hard as a rock. We were unable to cut it with a knife. Such a shame. A sharp difference from the time before. At a bagel shop I expect consistency in the quality of bagels. The pastries, although beautiful to look at, didn't seem like they were made that day. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times to let them know about the bagel and pastries but no one ever answered. I was disappointed that I couldn't reach out to a team member to solve the issue. They really need to get someone to answer the phone. I really wanted to give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars because it has so much to offer and the concept is wonderful. However, the quality of the food was inconsistent and there was no way to reach out to them to solve the issue. It's a gamble on what kind of meal you will get and it shouldn't be that way. I really hope this problem gets fixed because this place has so much potential and I really did enjoy the food the first two times. read more

Cute small place with all gluten free breads and bagel sandwiches. Vegetarian/vegan as well. We got their blueberry danish - tasted just like a wheat one - and a donut. We have had some other gf donuts before and they werent great - this one was a lot closer to a regular donut. I also got the spicy feta open toast on sourdough - VERY GOOD. I loved the chili crisp and the fried eggs were cooked perfectly. VERY generous avocado and portion size. My husband got the g'day mate - i think that was it - with avo, egg, and vegan sausage. I think he liked mine better. I would definitely come back and get something with smoked salmon. The sourdough was great too. We also got the latke tots - they werent my favorite but the truffle aioli was very tasty. The woman behind the counter was so helpful since it was our first time and answered all our questions. A gluten free Mecca for any family affected by celiac disease. I know it's now become a trend to eat GF, and see so many people adhering to it sporadically, but to those with severe diagnosed gluten allergies or autoimmune disorders, this place is a life saver. So many options, delicious baked goods, no fear of X-contamination, and reasonable prices (unlike Breadblok that sold an inedible GF croissant for $6 three years ago). I am very glad this place exists and wish they had one in Studio City / Sherman Oaks, but in the meantime the drive to Beverly Hills is well worth it. read more

Ordered a bagel from here and it was pretty good, but I have to say, they went a little cray with the amount of cream cheese they put. Every bite I would take, a bunch of cream cheese would be pushed out of my bagel and also get all over my hands and just be super messy. Don't get me wrong, I like a solid amount of cream cheese and I hate when there isn't enough and the bagel is dry. Delicious breakfast stop! The place is known for their gluten free bagels/breads so of course we had to try their bagels/breads. We got the Breakfast Grilled cheese on Pan Demin bread and the Morning Stretch on everything bagel. The onion jam on the grilled cheese just blew my mind. It just pushed a simple grilled cheese sandwich into another level. The Morning Stretch sandwich was very flavorful with the addition of their red pepper paste. Would recommend both. The sandwiches are not that big so you don't feel overly stuffed. Next time, we will have to order the grilled cheese on a bigger bread or bagel. We also tried one of their drinks, the apple pie latte. It was really good and not overly sweet. They also have several sweet pastries and deserts. I just stumbled upon Modern Bread & Bagel. They have a nice covered patio and are dog friendly. There is street parking available. I've gone on weekdays, but I'm sure parking can be challenging on a weekend. The first time I went, I ordered the Farmer's Garden on a toasted Everything Bagel. It took quite some time to get my order and people who ordered after me, received their orders before me. I decided to give them a pass on the long wait because things happen and plus the Farmer's Garden was delicious. The bagel was chewy in a good way and super flavorful. Their pastry/dessert case is filled with colorful donuts, cookies, babke's & more, which I decided I needed to come back for. I came back 2 days later and got the avocado/lemon on a seeded bagel. Again, it was fresh, chewy and satisfying. I took a cookie home to go, but again will need to come back to try a donut or breakfast sandwich. Service is very friendly and I received my order quickly. Since I have been wanting to come here for a long time now I went to great pains to find parking nearby and was finally successful. I ordered the B.E.C. on Parmesan toast. It was tasty. But that's the only good thing I have to say about this place. When I was about to pay I could tell another customer was really irked off because it seems like they took too long with her order to be ready. And I noticed the same complaints on other reviews. So here I am waiting for my order for over 10 minutes for something that is a very simple sandwich to make. Not sure why it takes so long but I'm waiting in their nice patio area. Yet being surrounded constantly by gnats makes it frustrating and unappealing to eat here. Well I was just served with my sandwich and not sure why it was packed to go when I told them I wanted to eat at the restaurant. I was responded to with a nonchalant sorry as he plopped down my "to go" bag. Overall very unimpressed for this hype of a place. The vegan bacon was so hard that it was as if I was biting into an impossible tree bark! The presentation was less than mediocre. I've been here three times, all three times had a great experience with the gentleman at the cashier. He usually wears a bucket has and has excellent hair and outfits. He is funny, kind, and knows the menu very well. He checks in on you when you're waiting for your order. The food is of course excellent but I don't think the cold brew is that good. The eating area is always clean and well stocked. I like that this place is kosher and I hope it stays that way! I would love to see this place sell merchandise like mugs/ceramics. And I do want to say that I saw a woman came in to pick up a DoorDash order but they didn't have it, some kind of tech issue maybe. And he offered to remake her order there but she said she had no time and ran out. I wish more kosher places were like this: clean, modern, friendly staff, seasonal menu. read more

The chocolate zucchini bread was moist and yummy, and would recommend this one over the cinnamon bun bread, which had a weird texture. There was a bit of an issue with a few staff members, who forgot about our vanilla latte and served other customers their drinks. Upon questioning the server they said they would check on it, but the drink never came. We asked the barista to make it as they forgot, and they nonchalantly handed over the drink with no apology. I adore Modern Bread and Bagel! As someone with celiac disease, it can be hard to find a restaurant where I feel safe. Modern Bread and Bagel being 100% gluten free AND delicious is a dream! I've brought several friends here and they can hardly believe it's all gluten free. I love the Farmer's Garden open face sandwich and the shakshuka dine-in special. I've also taken home one of their sourdough loaves and it was divine. The only thing that hasn't been a hit for me personally has been the doughnuts and the babka (they're a bit dry for my taste), but many of the other pastries have been incredible. I've loved the matcha strawberry loaf, and the coconut brownie special this month was out of this world. The staff is also so kind - always super patient as I'm deciding on things and ready to help with any questions. They have a nice indoor space and a cute little shaded patio out front so you can enjoy sitting outside without roasting in the heat/sun. read more

Omg! GF Croissant?!?! The only place in the world that has a gluten agree Croissant!!!!!! I've been let down by other places before, so I was hesitant to get an $8 gf croissant. But I love their bagels so much, I figured I had a better shot at getting at least a good product. It. Was. Delicious! As someone with celiac, I don't say this lightly: Modern Bread and Bagel Modern Bread and Bagel is hands down the best pastries I have ever had. I have not had a croissant in EIGHT YEARS. Eight. Years. I took one bite and genuinely just stared at it. I made my friends try it (all gluten-eaters), and every single one of them said it was better than a normal croissant. I almost didn't believe it myself. It was flaky. Buttery. Layered. Not "good for gluten free." Just good. Period. And the donut??? Usually when you get a gluten-free donut, let's be honest , it's cake. It's always cake. This was not cake. This was a real donut. Light, fluffy, perfectly sweet -- truly the best donut I have ever had, gluten-free or not. It was so good that I made three separate purchases. I'd walk away... then go back up and order more. Not only to eat there, but to take home If anyone listens to me ever -- if you are celiac or even just gluten-free -- GO HERE. I just don't think this quite hits the mark. Service is really good, but follow though isn't there. We asked for our food prepared for dine-in, it was delivered for take-out. I asked to hold the pico de gallo on the burrito - it came with pico any way (I expected more attention to that kind of detail at a restaurant serving a gluten-free audience, considering I need to cut out raw onions). Otherwise, it's generally ok. We had a chocolate sprinkles donut and it wasn't bad, just very dense, not fluffy like you would want in a donut.
