Went on a cold Monday in December to celebrate my birthday and was shocked to see every table busy so definitely recommend grabbing a reservation. Immediately upon being seated we were welcomed by our server Carlos who walked us through the menu and explained to us to take our time. This was really appreciated as the whole time we were there we felt in good hands. We ordered the coconut shrimp and otoro crispy rice to start and both were excellent. For the main I had the dry aged ribeye and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For desert we had the pumpkin bourbon crème brûlée and that was phenomenal. Holy cow...this place is dynamite!! Flew into LaGuardia from St Louis yesterday...it had been a terrible morning, hadn't eaten a bite and needed to find a place where I could sit down, relax and unwind for a late lunch. Did my Yelp search and boom! Found River Palm. Boy am I ever glad I did! What can you expect? Well you will be welcomed by some awesome hosts the minute you come thru the door...nothing better than a smile and immediate engagement. Excellent touch! Bellied up to the bar, had a Guinness draft (poured perfectly) and ordered the chopped salad with shrimp! OUTSTANDING!!! You can't beat the blue cheese and dressing and for just under $20, nicely sized entree salad. Now what really set this place apart were the bartenders...she saw I had had a rough morning and without asking when she brought my bill said "the beer there is on me and here is some salad dressing, plus blue cheese to go". Now THAT my friends is called the "wow factor"!!! Very good experience and great food. I ordered oysters, rib eye steak, lamb chops, venison (menu of the day I think?), and desserts. The steak and lamb chops were amazing. I ordered all of them medium rare. I've been having a hard time finding venison in a restaurant, so I was really excited to eat it. Unfortunately the taste of it was too sweet (most likely from the red wine flavor added) and it tasted like medium well/well done steak. For me I'm used to the gamey and almost like eating medium rare lamb (?) taste of venison. Anyways, service was impeccable. My waiter, Daniel, really worked out of his way to provide great service and making sure we were good. I've been to so many restaurants and I've never seen someone go out of their way for us. It was odd and touching at the same time. I was torn between crème brûlée (my fav anywhere tbh) and the fudge brownie. Daniel recommended the fudge brownie, but the fudge ended up being too rich for me. He was so nice he gave me crème brûlée on the house. One thing I wasn't too much of a fan about was the bathroom. As I was sitting, massive dust most likely from toilet tissue was floating around in my face. It was so distracting and honesty really weird. Overall, this restaurant is amazing and homey. If you want a quiet place for a romantic dinner this is not the place. It's a loud (I'm pretty sure Italian)place that place that plays Frank Sinatra music. I was a bit unsure how my experience would be considering I saw the amount of 1 star and 5 stars leading me to taking the 50/50 chance on this place. Now I can say that this place really is great and I'm glad I chose to go here. If you want to pick a steakhouse whether it's in NJ or NYC I still would consider Gallagher's the best. To celebrate our anniversary with my fiancé...we decided to go to River Palm Terrace in Edgewater. I read some great reviews on Yelp and made a reservation online. Making a reservation was pretty easy and had made it a week in advance and there were still plenty of open time slots. We had arrived a little before my allotted reservation time and drove up to the complimentary valet parking. We walked in and spoke to the hostess. There was quite a crowd waiting in the lobby area waiting to be seated. Thankfully we had a reservation and were seated in a nice booth in the main dining room. We were provided their menu as well as a menu with their specials for the day. We had started with an appetizer of the colossal shrimp cocktail. We decided to share an entree of the tomahawk for two and 2 sides of the thin shaved fried onions and mashed potatoes. We had placed our drink order and was given bread and butter to start. The bread was warm and freshly baked. I had ordered the white sangria--super refreshing. The shrimp cocktail came after and it was 4 large pieces of shrimp served with a tangy cocktail sauce topped with horseradish. It was delicious--I loved the cocktail sauce--it had the perfect amount of tangy and spicy. We were then served a salad with a vinaigrette dressing and with a bowl of crumbled bleu cheese. Our entree was brought to our table a little bit after and it was the largest tomahawk that we have seen. It came on a sizzling plate. Our waitress had come to our table and served us a few pieces of meat. Our sides came out as well. The thinly shaved fried onion were piled high and crispy and the mashed potatoes were super smooth and delicious. The steak was cooked medium exactly how we had ordered and was tender and juicy. The fried onions were my favorite and just accompanied the steak so well. We had finished our meal and yes there was no steak leftover. Dessert sounded appetizing but I we were just soo full! Overall we had a wonderful experience first time experience at River Palm Terrace. All the staff were so helpful and friendly during our entire time there. The food is definitely worth the visit!! Been coming here for the last several years for Christmas Eve dinner with my family, and for any other landmark occasion. The service, the food quality and total ambiance were unrivaled. I use the term WERE. This past Mother's Day Eve, I had made reservations for an early evening dinner. From the moment we walked in, not a familiar face to be seen. (Red flag #1) We were then seated next to a group occupying two tables. Throughout their stay, they were loud, dropping "F-bombs" and vaping at the table. No member of the staff intervened. (Red flag #2) Our less than enthusiastic waiter greeted us with "I don't know why anyone would eat here." (Red flag #3) We both ordered items off the special menu that we had ordered before. My wife ordered the South African Lobster Tail, and a petite filet medium. What arrived looked like a frozen mess that was not from South Africa and an undercooked piece of meat. The highlight of the entire experience was the mashed potatoes! I've heard it had recently changed hands, but not only did they drop the ball, they kicked it literally into the sewer. It's heartbreaking that such an iconic establishment has fallen so far and can be easily outdone by McDonalds. Definitely on our. "No Fly List" from here on out. Tragic. read more

Extremely horrible customer service . We had 7:00 reservations and showed up at least 5 minutes early and had to wait almost an hour to be seated . I understand over booking for people who do not show , but why punish people who actually honor their reservation . We were a couple and every time we asked when we can be seated we were given the stock answers " you are getting the next table " we are getting you table ready " , etc. . Meanwhile three other twosomes that walked in after us were seated after hugging and glad handing the Maitre D . We would have left if not for it was a celebration dinner and we had spent a decent amount of money for our Uber. When we were finally seated there was no apology for the wait , no offer of a free drink for the inconvenience, just here's your table . And now we are seated next to a table full of ladies who were exchanging gifts and squealing quite loudly which was annoying all the tables in the area . When other diners including us expressed to them that we were trying to enjoy our dinners they were rude to everyone . Since all of us were inconvenienced you think that someone from management would at least ask them to quiet down to a low roar but of course nothing . We came for dinner. We had the fried calamari and raw oysters and clams for appetizer. Had the Duckhorn red and strawberry daiquiri to accompany our meal. We had the porterhouse for two and the calf liver. We had the key lime pie and the sundae with the kitchen sink(probably not the real name but, it was a sinkful) for dessert. Everything was great! Love the atmosphere. It was lively but, not obnoxiously loud like some places. You could still have a civil conversation while having dinner. We were sat at a booth with leather seats. It had the old steakhouse vibe. The bar was hopping. Our waiter was very attentive. When the chef brought out the porterhouse, it was still alive when he cut into the meat. He immediately took the meat back to the kitchen to cook it a little more so it was what we ordered. At the same time, he did not embarrass the chef. I like that. I think this is hands down one of the best restaurants in Northern NJ. The food is always consistently really good, I enjoy the ambiance, servers are hospitable, all around professional, and knowledgeable about the menu and they have a solid cocktail/wine menu. The River Palm is one of those restaurants that has a million items on the menu and they're actually all excellent. That's rare. Their specials menu is about a page long, and includes many staples, as well as a few seasonal items. I have never been dissatisfied by anything I have ever ordered here. Furthermore, I have recommended this restaurant to friends and family, and they all came back with raving reviews. I must warn you, it's almost ALWAYS packed. Whether you go in the middle of the day or at night, it's never dead in here. It's definitely a locals spot, and you can tell people have been religiously going here for years. Moving on, I'm often weary about a steakhouse offering sushi options, but the sushi chef is fantastic. I always order at least one roll here. I don't eat steak, but my brother always raves about the meat here. Other favorites of mine include the lobster dumplings, the king crab (if they have it), the scallops, oysters Rockefeller. Their fish/crustaceans always tastes fresh too (I should know, I sell fish for a living). Another thing I thoroughly enjoy about this restaurant is that you never leave hungry. They offer a table salad to everyone with blue cheese and a nice vinaigrette dressing before the main entrees, and it's delicious. Portions are also very reasonable. Not Cheesecake Factory size, but a very solid portion. I highly recommended the Edgewater location over the Fairlawn location. You almost feel like you're in a Robert De Nero 'mobster' movie from the 1960s (I feel like I'm in Chicago in the midst of the mafia era). There's signed pictures of celebrities all over the walls, dark walls, dim lighting, no outside lighting allowed, and waiters that have worked there for 30+ years. It's a real local joint! read more

This place is my go to for quintessential steakhouse steaks. Came here last night for my brother In laws birthday and it didn't disappoint and honestly has never disappointed for me. Carlos our server was as gracious and courteous as could be. The steaks were cooked to perfection (porterhouse for two and a 24 oz ribeye). For sides we had the potatoes hash (one of my favorites) creamed spinach and frizzled onions. We did also have two of the sushi rolls, which again I can't reiterate how fresh and tasty these were as is all the food we had. My family has been coming to RPT for years now, and it has always been consistently amazing. Every item on the menu, from the drinks, to the sushi, to the house salad, to the steaks, to the desserts is always phenomal. I went here for my birthday dinner last night, and as always, the service was terrific and the food was even better. I had the O'Toro Sushi and the Coconut Shrimp as appetizers, and both were great. The O'Toro is not cheap, but it was worth every dollar for the fresh taste (probably the best I've had outside of Japan). And as always, I ordered the dry-aged ribeye which continues to be one of the best steaks I've had anywhere. For dessert, I had the key lime pie, which was great as well. And throughout, our server was extremely courteous, made sure to let us take our time, and made this dinner a terrific experience. This was my first time trying The River Palm and it's safe to say I won't be coming back. The atmosphere was giving old money steakhouse which can either be charming or stale and this was definitely on the stuffy side. Drinks were super strong and rather tasty. I had the Maple Bacon Bourbon Manhattan. As a starter I orders the Sizzling Nueske Thick Cut Bacon which was very tender and cooked well and came with a nice barbecue sauce. A house salad came with my boyfriend's meal which was another highlight. The dressing was light and the blue cheese really pulled all the flavors together. However after that things went downhill. I ordered the 10 oz Shell Steak cooked medium rare that came with potatoes and a vegetable. I was so disappointed when the potatoes were a tiny amount of small cubes breakfast potatoes, the steak was cooked well but incredibly bland, and the broccoli tasted slightly burnt. The bill was over $200 and I've eaten at Michelin restaurants and paid less for the same amount of food. The River Palm is extremely overpriced for mediocre quality. read more

We loved our dinner!! Dined here for a birthday and it did not disappoint. We started with the tomato, mozzarella salad. Nothing special. And we had the filet mignon tips with spicy peppers. The filet mignon was perfect! This could've been a meal even. The peppers I would later regret eating. I didn't think they were too spicy but they were also a bit tangy/sour and wound up giving me really bad acid reflux (sorry if that's TMI!). For our main course we shared the porterhouse for two. We started to serve ourselves but then our waitress quickly came over and served us. The staff was definitely attentive throughout our meal. I'm not a big meat eater but it was delicious!!! We got garlic mashed potatoes and broccolini as our sides. They have several different ways to get the mashed potatoes. Next time I want the lobster mashed potatoes. My only regret is wearing a bodycon dress as opposed to the baby doll dress I originally intended. The food, service and experience exceeded all of my picky - eater expectations. My date made reservations for my birthday and we were immediately seated. Our host, Chris, was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. We had the King Crab roll and crab cakes to start. The roll was extremely fresh and light. The crab cakes were deliciously seasoned and cooked to perfection. My date ordered lamb with a sweet potato for his entree, while I ordered the 10oz lobster tail. Both of the entrees came with a wonderfully fresh house salad. I have to admit, I have experienced fine dining all over the world but I completely threw etiquette out of the window. I ordered the key lime pie while my date requested the blueberry cake gelato for dessert to go. I must say, I've been on the hunt for a key lime pie similar to one I had in 1996 in PR. I think I found it.... Furthermore, I've been eating this man's gelato and I don't even like blueberries! Our experience was so good we ordered take out a week later. For starters reservations are highly recommend, especially for dinner time, and deliveries usually take less than an hour. They also have complimentary valet parking which is highly convenient. I have ate quite a few different items off the menu, when it comes to this place I usually like the try something different every time. Recently I realized I never ordered the sushi from here because I did not know what I was going to expect but I decided to give it a go. Turns out it was outstanding and prob one of the best I have had in a long time. Other items such as the French Onion, Lamb, Country Chicken, Chilled Lobster with Salad have all as well been good as well. Personally I think the real winner for this place is their dessert- a pecan pie with Graham cracker ice cream! My mouth waters each and every time I think of it. Booked the reservation two weeks in advance because I'm never able to get a spot on the weekend. This is around my 30th time dining here and I can say it's one of my top 5 favorite restaurants. Although the staff is not super friendly most of the time, the food is still amazing. We came here this past Friday for a birthday dinner; we were a group of 7. When we first got there they seated us in a tight round table where we couldn't even move our chair in and out without hitting the table next to us. They saw us struggling and kindly moved us to an upstairs table so there was more room to move. We started off with some drinks; espresso martini (10/10), dirty martini with the best blue cheese olives, strawberry margaritas and a pitcher of cranberry sangria. For apps we got the slab of bacon and zucchini blossoms. The bacon is delicious especially with the dipping sauce it comes with. I could have done without the zucchini blossoms; they were alright, nothing special. For our mains we shared everything; Porterhouse, T-Bone Steak, French Fries, Creamed Spinach, Love Boat (big sushi boat), Englewood Cliffs Roll, Hoboken Roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna. We got the steaks cooked medium, the Porterhouse was a bit tough but the T-Bone was great, soft and cooked perfectly. They used to always give free salad with blue cheese but now it's a $5 salad charge for every plate. We've also had the Rib-Eye here before and that is also my fav. Now, as far as sushi goes it is AMAZING. The giant sushi boat is my favorite. They have rolls, sashimi, sushi, kani salad, and more on it. The Closter Roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna are also two great ones. The sushi chef, Andy always come to say hello whenever we order sushi, very sweet. We were all very full but had to get dessert. They have the best crème brulee, we got 3 of them. We also tried the 10 Chocolate cake, which was very good as well but the crème brulee was still the crowd favorite. Our server, I believe her name was Ansley, was very sweet, brought out everything we asked for just like we asked, with no rush to get us up. We will all definitely be back again!! read more

Making and modifying a reservation over the phone was a smooth experience. The ladies at the front desk, the bartenders and our waiter were all very nice. I wish I could say the same about the valet personnel. From the moment I arrived to the time I had to interact with them to leave it was Extremely uncomfortable. They spoke to me in a rude and cold manner...I just could not shake that experience. They need to either be properly trained or there needs to be an overhaul of that group. There was Not One friendly valet personnel. On the other hand the food was pretty good. The Tomato bisque soup was amazing! The French onion was was meh...I've had better buuut it was still good. I had the bronzini with broccoli in garlic and oil and it was pretty good. I felt the sauce that came with the fish was way too much of a liquid (kind of like throwing water on the fish) as opposed to a creamy and flavorful sauce. The spinach and garlic crusted steak very good. Lastly the sidecar drinks and lemon sorbet dessert were made to perfection. I honestly would come here again if it were not for that valet experience. I haven't been in a few years, but I went back a couple days ago. Everything was just how I remembered it. Killer bread, refreshing reliable starting salad. We got the bronzini, blackened salmon, chicken parm, hash browns, broccoli rabe, and a couple desserts. The whole bronzini was cooked perfectly with the most delicious garlic lemon sauce. The blackened salmon was also delightful if you prefer. The hash browns are unmatched. Truly addicting. The garlicky broccoli rabe balanced the meal. The desserts were sweet and decadent but probably the weakest point of the meal. They were almost too much. Although dessert is always necessary, the entrees and sides are what I really come for at the River Palm. On Sunday 1/17 I was celebrating a special occasion with my wife so we decided to go to this place. When I walked in I asked the hostess if I needed reservation to come or if they were taking walk ins. She immediately without hesitate told me "sorry just with reservation ". I waited couple of minutes so I asked her again if there was any chance she could accommodate us and she again gave me a negative answer, luckily David the manager was listening and he asked me for how many so I told him just two, his answer was "give me 5 mins I see what I can do" he checked the reservation app and very kindly he was able to seat us by the bar. Two thumbs up for David who knows what customer service really is (the hostess needs to be more assertive and accommodating). Steve the bartender was amazing, touching table all the time, following on us constantly. Outstanding bartender/server. The staff was extremely friendly, we had the chance to interact with Edmundo and with Juan who were very engaging and professional. There was a lady by the bar who I never got her name and she was also taking care of us even though we were not her table. Also the sushi chef stepped out of the kitchen to interact with customers and check on tables, a very nice gesture of him.
