    Unseasoned
    Dan W.

Sadly, this is the first poor dining experience my wife and I had in Alaska. I spent over $60 essentially for crudtacular food. I saw an elk burger on the menu, but as it is "out of season," I went with a standard burger. Besides being unseasoned, they got my burger order wrong. They fixed it, but that was the smallest 1/2 lb burger I ever had. My wife got a $33 ribeye. Too much fat, unseasoned, poor quality meat. For that price, it needs to be worth it. We are experiencing Fred Meyer for the first time, where after spending $60, I am buying a frozen dinner for our hotel. Definitely not recommend

Closing time is 10. Walked in at 8:45 to most of the lights off, the rest were turned off while we were waiting for our food.

Food here is decent. Consider that they'll close before their advertised hours when choosing if you should go. My husband and I ate our dinner in the dark, the waitress/hostess shut off all the lights as we were seated, no salad bar since it had all been emptied and closed down over an hour before their closing. All meat was cooked very well done despite asking for medium rare, probably in an effort to do closing stuff while it was cooking as everyone else in the front of the restaurant was doing the same thing. We probably should've left when we saw the staff was trying to leave as early as possible but since we had enjoyed food there before we had hoped for the same quality of food and service but left pretty disappointed after an awkward, rushed and dark dining experience.

The Roundup BLT with Swiss and avacado added, curly fries, and cheese sauce.

I ordered delivery tonight. I got a Roundup BLT added Swiss and avocado to it, curly fries and a 2 liter. They charged $4 for the two slices of avocado, altogether it was a $27 meal. The bottom slice of my bread was soggy, but other than that it was pretty good. It arrived quickly on a Friday night, the food was still hot, the delivery guy gave me an extra cheese sauce, and the person who took my order was nice and answered all of my questions. It's just a little over priced in my opinion. I'll probably just go to the restaurant next time rather than getting delivery.

8" Loaded Roundup Cheesesteak with fries. So flavorful, but I think I ate two days worth of calories even though I ate half.

When we arrived, we found out that you'd need a reservation to dine in the main dining hall, so we ended up going to the Saloon side where we had to find our own seats. We sat near the pool table, and the chairs were super unstable. The staff were fine but clearly seemed busy and understaffed. It took a long time for them to bring us water and take our order. I tried flagging the waitress 2-3 times when she was passing by and felt very ignored especially as I've made eye contact with her a few times. We ended up ordering the fried seafood combo and the seafood chowder, and it ended up taking at least 20min to come out (even the soup). The dishes were all very salty and definitely needed a lot of water to go with the food. Overall, definitely not a place to go before a flight since you might not be able to get in and out very quickly, and the food was really just alright for the price. Perhaps the main dining room experience would be better but I still wouldn't recommend it given the food quality and service.

We've been in a hotel for a few weeks and tried the 'normal' local restaurants but we were saving this one and a few others. Took a chance to show up with no reservation, but they were gracious and easily found a table to sit us in 1 minute flat. LOVED the GENEROUS bucket of REAL butter packets. My husband and I have a joke about the crime of a nice restaurant serving fake oil based butter. Not here. Good sign #1. Waitress arrived and nice, we got glasses of wine (extensive menu) and I ordered my Escargot right away. No question I was shocked to think I would find my European delicacy here! Yup! Arrived quite quickly with the wine, some nice slices of the Ciabatta bread they also brought for the table. YUMM-O. Just like I remember from Germany. Mains: Lobster (MP) for me and the Foxy cut of the Prime Rib for hubby. Baked Potato and the Cheesy potatoes. All was delicious! And the HUGE salad bar was lovely and included. Now, we opted on dessert to go. Crème Brûlée and Key Lime Cheesecake. Current note, Brûlée tasteless but Key Lime delightful. End. Our bill was $240. My 16-20 oz. Australian Lobster Tail cost $135. Yup, MP [smh]. Sad part, I got two apparently to make the ounces, and it was meaty, but pretty dry and not much flavor, not sweet. However, I do not recall ever having Australian lobster....so buyer beware all around on that one. BUT, we had a lovely night and look forward to trying other items, and that salad bar alone!!! Check this establishment out if you haven't already!!! P.S. Can't believe we forgot to take pics. Sorry.

Fries here are great too! Staff here are great! Since we came here near closing time, they actually offered us some of their leftover soup since it would have been tossed out. This may be why our service was impacted. Our bartender, while super friendly and trying to do his best, was overwhelmed and had just started. Lots to learn. The dishes were all really well presented - that takes skill, in and of itself. While these weren't dishes I would come back for, it was a nice, quiet dinner to end a full day. And, don't overlook location - this is in Alaska, so you will pay more. That aside, nothing was spectacular but nothing was terrible enough to leave on the table as well. More on point seasoning would have breathed life into my jambalaya. My dinner mates had similar comments about the chicken pasta and taquitos. The French Dip went over well with my dad. What would I change to up the service and experience? Direct guests to the main dining room if service cannot be duplicated in the larger bar area. Maybe add another bartender to help out in the evenings, when it tended to be busier. Offer a limited drink menu and nothing more. This might increase the speed and also play to the strengths of the staff. For us, it took a long while to get our total drink order and mine never came, so I ended up ordering a local cider. Bring a chilled glass with the cider, friend. Our check took a while as well. The food came timely. So, again, the patterns looked to be with the staff manning the bar area. We had the churrasco steak and the halibut Cuban style. The steak sauce has a kick, while the halibut sauce was slightly creamy but also refreshing - olive and lime perhaps? I thought the halibut was overcooked at first but the bottom half was perfectly cooked, so it seem like just the seasoned top was cooked more so. They both came from vegetables and yellow rice that soaked up the sauces well. We also got the flan which is house-made. So good, even better than the entrees. It tasted so 'fresh', don't know how else to describe it. They also had the cheesecake that night and I wonder if that's housemade as well. We made a reservation for a larger group, yet the table wasn't ready when we arrived, and we ended up waiting much longer than expected. For a place that requires reservations, this was frustrating right from the start. The food was just okay--not terrible, but definitely not worth the price. Given our background and familiarity with Latin cuisine, we expected much more in terms of flavor and authenticity, especially considering the high cost of the dishes. The live music, which we were looking forward to, started about 30 minutes late. To make matters worse, when one of the band members didn't show up, the owner asked a member of our family--who happens to be a musician--to step in and play. Not only did this put us in an awkward position, but there was no acknowledgment or discount offered for his time, even though we had other plans to get to. Parking is also inconvenient, with only street parking or paid lot options available. The restaurant itself is very small, which does create a somewhat intimate atmosphere, but it also feels cramped for larger groups. While the owner comes across as friendly, it also felt like there was a strong focus on maximizing profit. There are multiple additional fees listed in very small print at the bottom of the menu--something that should be much more transparent or reconsidered altogether. Service overall was slow, and again, the pricing does not match the quality or experience provided. At this point, I wouldn't personally recommend this place unless there are significant improvements--better service, more consistent food quality, fairer pricing, clearer fee transparency, and better management of their live music arrangements.
