Sadly, this is the first poor dining experience my wife and I had in Alaska. I spent over $60 essentially for crudtacular food. I saw an elk burger on the menu, but as it is "out of season," I went with a standard burger. Besides being unseasoned, they got my burger order wrong. They fixed it, but that was the smallest 1/2 lb burger I ever had. My wife got a $33 ribeye. Too much fat, unseasoned, poor quality meat. For that price, it needs to be worth it. I remember back in the day this place was decent from what I can remember. I figured I hadn't been here in a long time so I figured why not. My girlfriend got the ribeye and I got the french dip. First of all, the place did not even look like a steakhouse. The atmosphere is horrible, felt like I was stuck in the 1980s. We sat down at the table and the chairs and table was so uneven we couldn't even put a drink on the table. Then there was only one person working and she was working the bar and waiting the tables. We started to order food and there was no food to order. They have no chicken, burgers, egg rolls and barely other foods to order. The only food that we could've ordered was the cheesesteak and that thing looked like someone threw up on it. Also, no flavor what's so ever and very very bland. I'm from the city and am admittedly cautious about eating at any "mom-and-pop" food establishment. This restaurant didn't meet my expectations, but was a good tummy filler. From the price of the food, you'd think you're getting a fancy dinner. It was my first meal in town and we were already seated and hungry, so gave it a shot. My husband and I ate our dinner in the dark, the waitress/hostess shut off all the lights as we were seated, no salad bar since it had all been emptied and closed down over an hour before their closing. All meat was cooked very well done despite asking for medium rare, probably in an effort to do closing stuff while it was cooking as everyone else in the front of the restaurant was doing the same thing. Paid $30 for a burger and pie to be delivered late and cold. It was pretty clear the order had been sitting a long time - there wasn't even ice in my drink by the time they brought it to me. It took AN HOUR AND 25 MINUTES. I live 11 minutes away. I was told that it could take between 20-45 minutes for the food to arrive and I was fine with that. I called after an hour. I ordered delivery tonight. I got a Roundup BLT added Swiss and avocado to it, curly fries and a 2 liter. They charged $4 for the two slices of avocado, altogether it was a $27 meal. The bottom slice of my bread was soggy, but other than that it was pretty good. It arrived quickly on a Friday night, the food was still hot, the delivery guy gave me an extra cheese sauce, and the person who took my order was nice and answered all of my questions. Food wise, this place is horrible. We were the only ones in the place one night and it took almost an hour to get our food and it was burnt and cold. The waitress seemed Russian and couldn't understand English too well, so that wasn't pleasurable. I hate when a waitress doesn't understand what I am asking or they cannot help, but I was very nice to her regardless of the language barrier. The other times I ordered items, was when I was upstairs doing karaoke and the appetizers again were a waste of money. Food-sucks, just being honest. Karaoke- my favorite place to go hang out on a weekend night to have a few drinks and sing a few song! The service was a little long because they got smacked with a big delivery of wings when we had arrived. But the waiter was courteous and checked in with us frequently and gave us updates on our meals. The mushroom burgers we had gotten were SO GOOD. So, I just stopped by Roundup Steakhouse and found the restaurant very pricey, for what you pay the food had no flavor. Me and my wife had the New York strip steak that was adequate except no flavor, just completely bland. My wife and I had the salad bar w/dinner and the blue cheese that tasted like mayonnaise. The fettuccine Alfredo resembled macaroni and cheese and had way more cheese than noodles to the point of congealing. Alfredo noodles should not have cheddar and white american in them. The service was ok, but nothing to brag about. I would rate 4 out of 10. Not the best and too pricey for what you get. $16 dollars for a massive mound of cheese and little noodles is way too much. I would reevaluate the standpoint on what they deem is flavorful, unless the cooks have no tastebuds. I have yet to find a good steakhouse in the Fairbanks area that rivals any in the lower 48 states. We miss Texas Roadhouse and Cheddars. I've read the reviews but still gave this place a shot. It was not at all a good dining experience. I got the ribeye which included a trip to the salad bar. The bar wasn't well maintained as several items looked it had been up there a while, de-coloration. I waited about 30 minutes for the food to come out, no biggie. However, when it did come my steak was less than a inch thick and had very little flavor. I go to steakhouses expecting that chargrilled steak, full of flavor. If I had to guess the seasoning this place used, I'd say salt and a little pepper. Also, a good portion of the steak was fat. Besides the poor customer service (understandable seeming that only one server was working the entire restaurant), if you're going to claim to be the best steakhouse in Fairbanks... learn how to cook and season a steak. This review is in no means to bring down this business. Fairbanks deserves and needs a good restaurant, especially for the inflated prices. Came here on a Saturday night on a double date and was really excited because I had heard good things about this place since it recently had been under new management and I hadn't eaten here in years. Saturday is also our 1 day of the week that we cheat on our diets so we were looking forward to a delicious meal. We arrived a little after the couple that we were meeting and they already had drinks and had ordered a plethora of appetizers: including hot wings, queso dip, onion blossom, and calamari. The waitress brought out the onion blossom and the hot wings and left table without asking us if we wanted drinks. (she was busy with a party of about 30 so this was understandable). After waiting about 12 minutes, I decided to go order my on drinks for me and my fiance from the bar. Just as the bartender was giving me my drinks, our waitress sprints over to the bar and apologizes and brings the drinks to our table from the bar. No big deal. Now the food: The chicken wings were ordered thinking that they would be like buffalo hot wings (which we asked the server before ordering) They came out without sauce and were overcooked under seasoned. We told the server and she was very apologetic and brought out some new wings fried and tossed with barbecue sauce. OK but still disappointing. The Onion Blossom and sauce was delicious as was the calamari. The queso dip however was very interesting. It reminded me of when I was a wee lad and I used to make cheese sandwiches by placing kraft american cheese singles between 2 pieces of white wonder bread and stick it in the microwave on high for a minute. This is exactly what the queso dip was, american cheese melted in a microwave, it turned to a complete solid state 3 minutes after it was put on our table. It wasn't even a little bit spicy. Very gross indeed. Now on to the entrees: my fiance ordered a prime rib medium rare. (keep in mind this is a "steak house". I ordered the 14" loaded roundup cheesesteak because item is apparently what this establishment is famous for. The prime rib was served and it was about a 1/2" slab of overcooked PAN Fried meat. It actually had sear marks from the frying pan on it and was cooked all the way through. This was sent back to the kitchen and no replacement was requested. Now the cheesesteak: I am not claiming to be any kind of a cheesesteak connoisseur or anything. I have never been to Philly and maybe that is not what they are going for as this restaurant, but I do know what beef stroganoff would taste if you stuffed it into a hoagie roll and this is it. It must be something in the "special sauce"? Maybe sour cream? Anyway, it is not a pleasant flavor and not what your expecting in a cheesesteak. This flavor overpowered the whole sandwich and I was unable to eat more than a few bites. I didn't mention to the server as I think maybe this was just the way the cheesesteaks are make her and maybe the regulars like them that way. Definitely not for me though. The beer battered fries were very tasty in contrast. Our server was very nice and the house ended up paying for 1 round of drinks and not charging for the prime rib or the chicken wings. The service overall was actually quite good. It was just the food that fell short. Feeling unsatisfied, we went across Cushman to Los Amigos and ordered a prime rib and some queso dip. Prime rib was thick, perfectly medium rare, perfectly seasoned, absolutely delicious, and the same price as The Roundup. The queso dip is also the best in town. In summary, I will not eat food here again. Especially on the 1 day that I get to cheat on my diet. In pictures I have seen the plate full of fries it comes with, this was not the case. The cheese steak had diced onions, steak (of course), what seemed like a gross amount of processed fake cheese. The BBQ sauce hardly added flavor to the sandwich. I was craving BBQ that's why I ordered this. The outside husk of the onion led to a few unpleasant bites from my sandwich. One bite, I looked at my wife she noticed something wrong with my face as She watched me pull out a onion husk. She couldn't help but say "Gross". Probably the best Steak and Cheese in Fairbanks. A belly buster sandwich with an enormous side of fries. Great flavor and filled from side to side with shaved, actual steak and slathered in cheese. The fries were piping hot too. We started with the onion rings which were awesome but we weren't crazy about the special sauce that came with them. Our waitress was great and kept us happy with refills of ranch dressing as a substitute. We were watching a football game on the big screen and decided to also get the Southwest Eggrolls which were awesome. Great service, great food in a not so great atmosphere.
