Get the chicken Alfredo. It may be the best chicken Alfredo I've ever had. The portion was humongous and there was so much delicious chicken added! Tried this place for lunch on a cruisetour day in Fairbanks. 15 minute walk from the visitor center across the river - good for able-bodied but not for others. Based on a full house at noon, this is a favorite with locals and the military. It empties out quickly after the lunch rush so plan eating at 12:45 or later for immediate seating to avoid a 5-10 minute wait. "Build your own sandwich" options are many and soups/chowders are excellent. Service is prompt and pleasant. We had turkey and fresh chicken salad sandwiches and clam chowder. Big sandwiches with very fresh ingredients. Prices are extremely reasonable- about half that of the popular spots more in downtown locations. Worth the extra walk. read more

Food was so good we ate here twice! Day 1 - Swiss Mushroom Steak Sandwich and New England Chowder. Both were excellent, but the Swiss Mushroom sandwich is what made want to go back for another meal the next day! Day 2 - I decided to try the Philly Cheesesteak and my wife had the Crab Roll. The Cheesesteak was also very good, but I think I'd pick the Swiss Mushroom over it (if I had to pick... but it was close). The rolls used for these sandwiches are excellent. Came here two years ago so it's time to update my review. Like last time, I had a nice meal but it lacked the "wow" factor. Last time I got the crab roll and this time I got the butter garlic shrimp. 12 jumbo prawns came in a bowl filled with garlic butter. Three slices of toasted French bread went with it. Last time I got the clam chowder and found it bland with few claims. Today I gave the smoked salmon chowder a try. I liked the salmon chowder much better but it still lacked flavor. Could have had a stronger smoked salmon flavor. Got the same berry dessert as last time and liked it both times. Service isn't great. Was seated and ordered taken but not much follow up. Let me just say this is the best crab I think i've ever tried in my life. I've eaten a lot of crab but this one was sooooo fresh and soft it was perfect ! The service was great too really friendly. The place was small but not like unreasonably small. Just normal eatery you know. It honestly took a while to get and the price was about $100 a lb market price but wow i'm so so happy I didn't get impatient(it's not even their fault i was jet lagged). I got the halibut corn chowder and there was nothing too special about it. I wish there was bigger chunks of halibut in there and I added salt and pepper which brought it to life a little bit. The crab roll was pretty good. It came with butter and ranch, I tried both, butter was my favorite. For 36$ I'll pass on this one next time though. This is a nice and well loved local establishment with excellent food! We weren't too hungry and were leaving the next day so decided to go small and order more if need be. We both enjoyed cups of two of their three chowders. I had the smoked salmon chowder and my wife ordered the New England clam chowder. Both were delicious and hearty! We then split a large order of 12 potstickers which filled us up! I really wanted to try their Philly Cheesesteak, but they don't offer them until 4pm...! Sad face. Oh well. Next time. While I hate to have to leave a bad review on such good food, the service we got was terrible. The waitress we had (dyed hair and piercings) clearly had an attitude problem with one of our guests because I guess she didn't like being corrected that we were a group of 4 adults 2 children and basically tried to sit us in the tiny table in the corner even though the dining room was pretty much empty and my friend tried to explain that to her. Kept rolling her eyes at us and other customer, She spent more time chatting with her boyfriend at the counter than doing her job. So much so that the other lady behind the counter stepped in to do her job for her (kudos to her) because that same waitress apparently "forgot" to put in my friend's order so we waited another 45 mins. She lost out on a very good tip. All because she was mad that we made a minor correction. My advice, if you hate your job, then quit. read more

Chowder house has amazing food and service. All the food we got was delicious. We especially loved the crab rolls (disclosure: we are from the dessert). It was the freshest and juiciest crab I've ever had. The server did warn us it's been a bad season for crab fishing so the price is $$$$, but it was worth it since it came with two. Decided to stop in on a rainy day because a bowl of clam chowder sounded good. Looks like a new place. The staff greeted me and the server explained how the ordering works. They give you a sheet of paper with the menu and you check off what you want the it give it to the server. Seems like an extra step but ok. I went with the bowl of Clam Chowder and Garlic Shrimp. The Clam Chowder was decent though could have been a little hotter temperature wise. I got a quite a few clams and the chowder was good overall. The Garlic Shrimp was in a bowl and basically peel and eat served with 3 pieces of toast. Sorry forgot to snap a picture. It was good as well. They had some desserts that I didn't try. The service was quick and friendly. The place was clean and well maintained again it looked new though. It was fine, not horrible and pretty basic meal. The chowders were decent. I had the salmon chowder and my fiance had a different one. Both were pretty good which is why I gave it 3 stars because the sandwich was not great. My main issue is that the menu reads "crab salad" and this is absolutely not crab it is KRAB or "Imitation crab" and FDA requires businesses to use those words as to not be misleading. I think it's also just poor form to say "crab salad" and not explain that it is fake crab when it's at a place that sells tons of other genuine seafood dishes this was a little out of left field and I was pretty surprised at the corner being cut without any description on the menu.
