Had the $1 taco and a burger suggested by one of the employees sadly I can't recall the name of the burger since I am Writing this review several weeks later due to me barely having a free minute now. The tacos were better than expected and compared to quality Mexican tacos made of beef. The curly fries here are rich in flavor and the bar had a sports game on which didn't matter to me but some people would see this as a positive thing if they are a sports fan looking for restaurant with sports and a bar. This place is so good I am excited to write a review. First of all the service is excellent and personable. The waitress and lead waitress were beyond friendly. I ordered the Frankenstein Burger, which was huge. Along with it came FRESH CUT FRIES!!!!! That is what a place like this should always do, but too often don't. All the food was timely and excellent. I sat next to my nemesis, an Iced Tea dispenser. Yuck. I ordered hot tea and a cup of ice, which they obliged. After talking with the waitress she said they brew their own tea too. Well, that is what I wanted, so my refills came from that. I understand that that tea thing is for sweet tea, but they were sold by their soda distributor something that helps the soda guy but hurts the restaurant. Great place with a great atmosphere. This sports bar was pretty packed the whole time we were there. They have a pretty large menu for food and a lot of margarita flavors. I had their signature drink which was pretty good! I had a burger and my husband had the French dip. The burger had a nice flavor and the fries were crispy. My husband said the roast beef in his sandwich was alright but it was similar to just lunch meat. All in all the food was about average, it tasted fine but wasn't really anything outstanding. We stopped here on our way to Leadville and agree with most other reviewers that this place is Great. We got in just in the nick of time as the crowds showed up and the line started. Being a taco nut, we ordered two of their fried tacos as a starter; I then ordered four more for dinner. They were as close to home cooked tacos as I have ever had. Very few Mexican restaurants have decent tacos. The boss had the chili size and while different than most, she thought it was excellent. The service was superior and the staff among the best we have ever had in any restaurant. No chatting in the corner or on the cell. The owner was also cooking according to our waitress. I don't leave reviews often, but this place takes the cake! My buddy and I were backpacking the Sangre de Cristo mountains and were looking for a hot meal on a Wednesday. We were not disappointed. As soon as you sit down, ask for a plate of their fried tacos to get you started. My boy and I split a plate of 8 cause this was our first hot meal in almost a week. A plate of four will do fine for your average pair of diners. It's a simple little soft shell taco with your basic iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes and seasoned ground beef, a dollar a pop, makes sense. Hold the phone, they melt the cheese onto the tortilla, getting the stray shreds of cheese good and crispy. The result, soft shell tacos that hold the form of a hard shell taco with some bonus crisped cheese. While you are enjoying these miraculous morsels and enjoying a beer, marvel at their selection of burgers, sandwiches, and Mexican food. My favorite was the Mizer. Be warned: anything with their pickled chili's is gonna make your nose run, so ask for extra napkins. All in all, it has a greasy spoon diner ambiance with an eclectic menu array, and a bit of a sports bar effort. The food is incredible and the service is personable and real, not a bunch of fake smiles. 10/10 will go out of my way to visit again. read more

This place is definitely the place where people choose to go out to eat at. Lots of reservations on the weekend so be careful if you're a walk-in. We waited about 30 minutes on a Friday night and were seated at the counter. I love that you can watch them cook because they do so much with the space they have. Wow! Oh Wow! This place has it all: great food, great atmosphere & great service! We were seated immediately, even though the place was packed. Our waitress was prompt even though she was working multiple tables. The restaurant was clean, the cook crew seemed efficient (you can watch from your seat) and when the food arrived it was wonderfully presented and delicious. Walked in out of the rain after our drive from Aspen. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess who seated us immediately. We didn't have reservations either. We asked to be moved to a more well lit table and they didn't blink an eye and accommodated the request. Good start! Our server was efficient and friendly and most helpful regarding the menu since is it HUGE! The menu choices ran the gamut from 40 choices of burgers to another 20-30 Mexican plates to appetizers, etc. etc. etc. it would take many years to have every item on this menu. I ordered the Sandy Special - 3 tacos and cheese fries. My wife ordered the Adam's State Special - 2 tacos, green chile stew and a tortilla. The tacos were good solid home cooked fare. The kind mom made. I'm sure I'm going to have to work these off on the bike, but it was worth it. Plainly, just good food. Thanks Yelpers for giving us a heads up on this place. It's located along a side street, with little signage, kind of just stuck in a storefront. Do NOT let that fool you. Burgers, Burgers, Burgers galore. Beef? You bet, hand-pattied in house, too! Bison? Uh huh. Salmon Patty? Yep. Chicken? Fish? Veggie? Check!! But. Any old roadside burger will do on a road trip, right? Well, Sir, these ain't your everyday roadside burger. They come in various sizes, (we tried two) with bun options (Plain, soft, Old-School White for my itty bitty sized burger, Pretzel Bun for his Behemoth.) and oh yeah, good sides. Tater tots. Soooo good! This place was such a find and is so cheap! We were glad we happened upon it while driving through. We didn't order any drinks, but the Coke did come in a glass bottle! We ordered the Ultimate Cheesy Burger (I think it was called), and that was delicious and absolutely worth five stars. Their curly fries and regular fries, also five stars. The service was good and friendly, and although we didn't get to try their desserts, they also looked incredible. The only thing bringing this down is that my burger, the Sticky Burger, was a bit dry - I think it was the peanut butter and the patty, and it could have used a bit of sauce (or more) to balance it out. Otherwise, the options were many, the place is nicer than it looks from the outside, and the food is great. I'd definitely return. read more

We called on a Friday afternoon at 3:30 and made reservations for 19:30. We were told there was a large party so even with reservations there might be a slight wait. With our evening meal secured we went to the Sand Dunes National Park and meandered around to include picking up souvenirs. We made it to the restaurant at 19:00, 30 minutes prior to reservations and were seated immediately. I found one of my favorite beers on tap (1554) and ordered appropriately. Too late we saw a beer sampler on the front of the menu, but splurged anyway. Three of the four tasted watered down but again I like darker beers so no fault. We also ordered the guacamole and chips and soon found the dip was rather bland. The chips needed more salt and were a little stale. As a party of five, we found a variety of burgers I would term gourmet. So many different choices and we each had different tastes. Prices were decent and more than enough of a serving size. My burger "Charlie's" was prepared medium and tasted great. As busy and loud as the establishment was, the service was excellent. Yes, we would go again. read more

The Rubi Slipper is a must stop in Alamosa. The menu is huge and creative and really divided into two cuisines. The New Mexican dishes are the best in town - not as heavy as many of the other restaurants but flavorful. My favorites were the Tacos with Calibacitas (squash) and the Calibacita Enchiladas which contained meat and vegetables and were covered with green chile. There is also a list of ~50 different burgers and a veggie patty can be substituted for any. My kids loved the Bernie Mac, a burger topped with fried Mac n Cheese. There is a ton of bar food - bacon wrapped jalapeños and other delicacies. There are a ton of cake and and cheese cakes for desert. The fried ice cream was the only disappointment. Coated with oats, it wasn't crispy on the outside. The ambiance is casual and friendly. The restaurant is fairly small and there may be a wait - 10 - 20 minutes, but totally worth it. The restaurant takes reservations for dinner which can contribute to the wait issue. While we ate the reserved tables sat empty. read more
