A wonderful restaurant. Was here for a birthday. We shared the octopus and hamachi crudo; both were delicious. I had the steak; was done really well. Also loved the focaccia bread. Service was fantastic. Can't recommend him enough. And it's a nice quaint restaurant. Loved the lighting and the open kitchen. Need to come back to try the pizza. read more

Fine culinary lineage! What a gem in my work neighborhood. Stopped in for dinner last night, we sat at the beautiful bar and enjoyed the citrus salad, fritto Misto with shrimp and vegetables (light, not greasy) and the oxtail paparadelle. Wonderful dessert too- met one of the owners (with Chez Panisse roots, working with the best) and was told the chef is Perbacco alum. Will def be back, may be my regular spot after work. I used to love this place when it was Chow. And was so sad when it closed. But was happy to hear a new restaurant opened in its place! As an east coast Italian American transplant, I'm always on the hunt for good Italian food in SF. The Rustic completely remodeled the space to a welcoming but elegant restaurant. From the front you wouldn't guess that inside is expansive and nicely appointed including the hidden patio where I used to love to sit so much when it was Chow. The wine selection was very eclectic. I tried the Rose which was excellent. The complementary focaccia with oil was super tasty (though I tried to save my carbs for the mains). We split a Chicory salad that had delicious pears in it with a very light dressing. Then we split two pasta dishes. The orecchiette and the ravioli. The staff was super nice and did all the splits for us, including both pasta dishes! Everything was delicious. Great flavors and just the right portion size. The staff was friendly and attentive. The prices were reasonable. Overall, we had a lovely dinner and will definitely return again in the future! read more

Welcomed addition to the neighborhood! The vibe is super cute, modern, and fun. The service is very friendly and welcoming. The general manager Zoti is genuine, kind, and full of wine knowledge. Definitely check out the orange wines and the chilled reds if you want something out of the ordinary. The food is absolutely delicious. Do not miss the mortadella pizza or fig toast appetizers. I recently dined at The Rustic and had a wonderful experience. The ambiance is stunning, hip while still warm and romantic. Staff was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We started with the fried olives and Crudo, both delicious! The chicories and little gem salads are both tasty and a welcomed addition to the main course. The lamb shank was cooked to perfection as well as the fresh linguine and clams. Everything was plated beautifully with attention to detail and reasonably priced. so great to have a good new italian place in the neighborhood. I've been twice now since they opened. Both time service was friendly, food was delicious and wines were excellent. I loved the enthusiasm and obvious pride from the staff. I think this place could be a keeper! We've tried the oxtail pappardelle, the rigatoni bolognese, the sausage pizza and the mushroom pizza. I'll be honest - I had my doubts about this space, though that would be true for anything trying to replace Chow, but I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious (bruchetta with stracciatella, peaches & saba, addictive anchovy stuffed fried olives, pesto ravioli, and a hearty orecchiette with sausage) - all of it super tasty and satisfying. But the real highlight was our waiting Dario. He somehow managed to balance being attentive and professional with being super personable and hilarious. Oxtail ragu was mediocre at best. Just not very flavorful at all as I would expect. Kind of dry overall (and I'm referring to wetness not flavor but I guess dry could be used to describe the flavor too). No where near as good as the ragu at Delfina. Admittedly that dish is $4 more and you get a little less, but it's soooooo much better. Also the noodles were a tad too al dente. In general i got the feeling that there wasn't a chef making this...just a kitchen "cook". Maybe once upon a time when an actual chef designed the dish it was amazing....t it just seems like it's been dumbed down and no one that truly knows food is keeping tabs. Also....no bread or anything. I thought when I poked my head in a few days earlier and asked the hostess if bread came with any of the pastas she said yes. This restaurant was very....PINK. It reminded me of Barbie. Modern decor, and seemed to perhaps cater to a younger clientele. the decor seemed like a bit of a mismatch with the menu, which was mostly Italian. it was later on a weeknight so only a few other tables of people and more people sitting at the bar. This is important because it took a LONG time to get someone to our table. This was The same the entire night. We ordered some focaccia (complementary but you have to ask), pappardelle w/oxtail Ragu, Branzino with arugula/fennel, and a glass of chardonnay. Focaccia ok, pappardelle daughter said sauce was good but not as rich as she has had before, some of the pasta (not homemade) stuck together. Small branzino butterflied and deboned, excellently cooked, accompanying salad super salty. The fish was already salty, why over salt the salad? Anyway, the fish was good but I was starving afterwards.....and I'm a tiny person. If you order this, you may need an appetizer or pasta. So we ordered a gelato and a panna cotta w/ blueberry sauce. Both good. The bill came with some confusion that we had to work out, but it was all good in the end. We've been wanting to try "The Rustic" for a while now, and tonight was the night. We had a friend visiting from Spain so it was the perfect occasion. Unassuming underdog brunch choice! I've walked by this place countless times and the vibe it gave off was perhaps stuffy, but walking in the decor is gorgeous with a splash of playful and cute. They have a patio in the back (dogs allowed!) that is thoughtfully shielded from icy cold SF wind, but still brings in some outdoors in. It's rare to be able to dine outside in comfort in SF so this is a huge plus for me! But the food is the star! Had a brunch group so sampled a variety of things- Focaccia bread was just a smidge stale but still super yummy. Margarita pizza was delicious- such a perfect combo crunchy soft crust, the pizza itself was not soggy, and the portion size was pretty large! Delicious chili oil is available, but maybe start with a splash- it's pretty spicy! (To me, a spice wimp.) Shared it as an app between 3 people and that was almost enough for a whole meal for me.. Fried chicken sando - juicy delicious chicken, great breading. The side fries were also deliciously salty and perfectly crisp. Bolognese - SO good. We were drooling at pics of the flat papardelle noodle and instead were served a campanelle noodle, which is curly, and was probably a better choice to hold the sauce! Breakfast burrito - this was bursting with flavor. I'm not sure what they did to make the eggs taste so decadent but I loved it. I only wish I had asked for some salsa and hot sauce, not sure if that's available here usually. Overall a great brunch spot! It was empty when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, a spectacular change from the hour long waits at other brunch spots. If you are looking for a party brunch spot maybe not this place but if you want to have audible conversations with brunch mates over tasty food, this is a great choice. read more

Finally, a worthy successor to Chow's old space! The owner and waiters have a warm and well-deserved pride in their food and checked in on us in a very friendly manner. The pasta dishes were frankly some of the best casual pasta plates in the city (up there with Cotogna?) and quite reasonably priced, given that they're hand-made noodles and cooked with an inventive Californian flare on top of its very solid classic base. Ate there for Sunday Brunch with friends and had a wonderful time and meal. Service and cuisine were excellent. I had their avocado toast which was delish along with a fine Bloody Mary, 2 friends had their chicken sandwich which they thoroughly enjoyed and another had their octopus salad. Our meal was accompanied with deep fried olives (very good), and clams in broth and with fries.
