What made the situation even more unprofessional was that she left the payment device at our table for Apple Pay and then actually left the restaurant. She was the only server we had seen around, so we were basically left sitting there with the payment device and no server. We eventually had to get up ourselves to find someone so we could ask for boxes and return their payment device. No one had even asked whether we needed boxes, wanted anything else, or were finished ordering. My boyfriend didn't even finish his beer because at that point the entire vibe had changed and we just wanted to leave. We had driven an hour specifically to try this restaurant and were genuinely excited about it, which made the experience even more disappointing. I completely understand if a server's shift is ending, but there is a professional way to handle that--especially when customers are still actively eating and one person at the table hasn't even ordered yet. Someone could have simply explained that her shift was ending and introduced whoever would be taking over our table. Instead, we were made to feel like we needed to pay and leave. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. We really wanted to like this place, but being treated this way after driving an hour to come here was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.

Eating at The Rustic made me miss Chow sooooo much. I know it's probably not fair to compare the two especially since The Rustic has only been open maybe about 6 months--but I was so sorely disappointed. I figured even if they didn't have it 100% together yet I could still get a feel for the place. And I so badly want a great restaurant in the neighborhood again! But alas -the service was so abrupt -almost to the point of rudeness. Specials were told to us as an afterthought --after we had already chosen our meals from the menu! Plates were delivered and plunked down with no comment. Plates cleared without asking if we were finished (we weren't). I ordered the Orecchiette Bolognese --because I'm always on the hunt for a great bolognese-- this one was so salty, none of the other flavors or richness of the dish could be tasted. My friend had the Ravioli with Pesto. She said it had good flavor but the pesto was over-blended & the ravioli was undercooked. Actually the best part about our meal was the focaccia. Based on how we felt about the meal, we passed on dessert. A lot can be forgiven in a restaurant when the service is stellar. And if they don't have stellar service, then the food has to be amazing. The Rustic has neither of these.. so far. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again after another six months. Hopefully I will be able to update this review then. read more

I am astounded this place hasn't blown up and been so busy you're unable to get a table yet. We had my mentors retirement dinner here - 5 of us, excellent service and such beautiful food. Everything was so perfect - it does get noisy sometimes but the food and wine is so good, damn. So thank you Rustic for the epic experience - I was the one paying tonight and I don't mind a bit! I enjoyed every morsel and appreciated your help serving my fave wine and some of your own. I'll be back soon! Also - I just always want to give a massive shoutout to the food we had. Fried chicken, oxtail yum, bolognase (?), bass fish branzino and porcini ravioli - every single one of us loved our meals. Got the burrata peach toast and salads for apps and desserts were all great.
