We had been hearing good things about the food at this place, and particularly their Taco Tuesday specials. Unfortunately, we may never know if the food here is any good or not. They have a "Please Seat Yourself" sign, so we picked out a table and waited for someone to come by and offer us waters and menus. We sat there for 15 minutes and none of the staff so much as acknowledged that we existed. I understand that places get busy and that a lot of restaurants are understaffed these days. But in the space of 15 minutes, someone could have at least stopped by and said, "Sorry, we're really busy and we'll be with you in a minute." No one even made eye contact with us. We got tired of waiting, so we picked up and went somewhere else. Maybe the sign should have said, "Please Serve Yourself." read more

Having moved to Erie at the end of 2022, we've eaten here a handful of times. Overall this place is geared first and foremost as a bar, you seat yourself and most of the effort by the staff is focused on that part of the business. Overall the food each time has been satisfactory from a taste perspective and their prices are fair. I'd say their best offerings are their burgers. The areas I feel they are lack each time we've been to the establishment are the speed and delivery of the food. I'd say each visit it has taken them at least 40 mins after we had our orders taken to get our actual food. We aren't talking like it is big orders usually it's me, my wife, and toddler son. This last visit which will probably be our last , my in-laws were in town along with my sister in law. We came here to eat after attending the community fair on Briggs this year. We came and sat ourselves to the room on the left of the entrance, no one was in there but us, my father in law went and let one of the bar tenders know. Shortly after one of the bar tenders came over and took our drink orders. Roughly roughly 10 mins later another group came in and sat in a booth, at that time our server came back and delivered our drinks along with took our orders. In the mean time a second servers came over to the other party and took their drink orders and food orders. About 20 mins later the other group got their food meanwhile we are sitting still waiting with no server response, 20 more minutes go by and they finished their meal, still no food for us. 10 mins later the other group leaves the restaurant and our server comes by and says the food will be out shortly? Another 10 mins go by and finally the food comes out. My wings were cold (probably from sitting out), my sister in-laws Brussels sprouts app she declined because they they brought it with another tray of food sitting on top of it which made her question the cleanliness and sanitariness so she didn't want to eat it. The server seemed offended that she rejected it. Meanwhile no one said anything about 60 minute wait and serving other tables before us. The establishment did refund the meal we refused to eat but overall the service, lack of communication, delay, and non-prioritization ruined everyone's meal and spirits. I want to like this place because I love burgers and wings but literally every time we've eaten here it's been a frustrating event. Even ordering online has been a nightmare with missing food because the Ruben sandwich at one point didn't show on their receipts in the bar even you you paid for it online. To showing up to get your food after being notified of a time to get it only to sit there another 30 mins waiting because they didn't make it even yet. Wish I had a better review for them but having 5 experiences eating here and 4 were all bad I can't go higher than a 2. read more

I went in there to pick up a to-go order. Every customer in there (not one wearing a mask, and it was pretty crowded) looked at me like I was the dumb one for wearing a mask. I was so uncomfortable. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Not going back because I value, you know, living. Oh, and by the by, the food was very good. The staff was wearing masks, and were very nice. Pleasantly surprised by this place! I was hesitant and I usually prefer a "nicer" atmosphere rather than a "bar" type. However I went here with 2 kids and 3 adults and had a good time. Our server was attentive and kind, open seating- was busy but no wait, and they have a modern jukebox where you can pay a few bucks and play some music. Other than the pictures shown we ordered the fried mushrooms and the M90 shrimp which I thought were both better than our entrees. We were pleasantly surprised by this gem of a bar in Erie. I ordered the burger, which was massive, inexpensive, and delicious. They take the extra time to toast the buns on the griddle, which results in a crisp and yummy texture. They smoke their wings, and I will get those next time--they look amazing. My wife and our kids enjoyed their food too. A nice perk of this bar is they provide free popcorn and have a couple arcade games--which kept the girls fed and entertained while waiting for food. read more

I stopped in to play some free poker (Wednesdays) and grab a bite before playing. Amber was working the bar and serving the poker players in the side room. She did a good job getting me my food and drinks. I ordered the chicken fingers and fries. The fries were an average sized portion and tasted great! The chicken fingers are the standard ones found in many restaurants across the metro area.They are over breaded lack any real flavor. They are suitable for the kids menu but I will be skipping them in the future. I ordered them with a BBQ sauce and that was pretty good. A guy next to me had a burger and it looked tasty. I've had decent experiences here in the past, but tonight was a pretty poor experience that has me rethinking coming back here. I ordered food and a beer online for pickup at a scheduled time. I got there at the scheduled time to find my good ready and on a table - perfect. Then I realized I needed to go to the bar for my beer. There were 2 people waiting I'm front of me and I stood there for 15 minutes while my food got cold and the people in front of me weren't even acknowledged - all while someone behind the bar had their mask down the whole time. I finally realized it would be a long time before I got my beer so I left without it. I got home to find chicken strips with barely any sauce on them and they tasted AWFUL. Food is way better than we expected. The people who work at the Rusty Melon are warm and friendly and efficient. Place can be busy and our orders still are fast! We all the bartenders. They serve the "Impossible Burger". I was a little hesitant about ordering this burger. That said it was the best veggie burger I've had in my life! They cooked it perfectly, toasted the delicious bun and added lovely cut lettuce, tomatoes, onions. I opted to skip fries and had salad! WOW! You could tell they take their time and don't just throw veggies on a plate. It was a beautiful and delicious salad (they added croutons but I removed them to cut calories). As long time Erie residents we wanted to give this place a try after hearing some great reviews about their burgers. And we felt strongly we should help support a local business for our first dinner out since March. From the moment we walked in we felt unwelcome. Glares from the people behind the bar and literally no staff whatsoever was wearing a mask. We are in the middle of a global pandemic and we were really disappointed to see this establishment not taking things seriously. We all felt extremely uncomfortable during our entire meal. The lack of concern for guidelines set forth by our state was concerning. We just really expected better. The food was okay. I found it difficult to enjoy my burger due to my wondering if proper cleaning protocols were being followed. We left wondering if we should self quarantine for 2 weeks as a precaution Later after chatting with a friend she mentioned this place had recently been "called out" on the local Facebook page for our exact concerns. I don't follow that page much so I was unaware. Had I known in advance of the lack of masks/gloves/hand sanitizer we would have avoided all together. Been here a few times over the years and seems like the quality in general has been on a steady decline. The last time I was there, it appeared that they were in the process of a much needed remodel, so I was surprised to return 8 months later and the drywall repair and paint samples were still left unfinished and the atmosphere clouded in filth. As for service, it's never been much to brag about, but it went from about a 10 minute wait to get noticed to having to go to the bar and inquire about service and there was not one familiar face from my previous visits. Now the food.... Burgers used to be decent, but my last one was like a hockey puck, charred and dry with black bits of greasy debris from the grill melted in with the cheese. When I unwrapped my silverware, there were chunks of dry food visible as if nobody looked before they folded it or just didn't care... Draft beer was warm, and the overall experience disappointing... We came in on Saturday with our two boys 9 & 12. Food and service are great! The atmosphere needs a overhaul for sure. More dive bar atmosphere verse fun bar/restaurant. If they redo the interior I'd for sure be inclined to go more. It feels like that type of place you just want to hang without kids at a neighborhood dive bar. So I think it's has some identity issue. But that being said food was great, but not the place I'd come again with kids. We had the burger, chicken fettuccine (my son loved) club and fried mushrooms.
