Been here a few times now because it's close to home and the boyfriend loves the clam chowder. Every time we go the service is above and beyond. Super friendly and attentive. The food is good, the ambiance of our table overlooking the Vallejo marina is good. But the staff! They are amazing and happy and in turn that made me happy. If you are looking for a fancy place this isn't for you. But if you are looking for laid back, grab a beer and a burger while on the actual water front...yea! I went there yesterday for lunch with a group. I had expected 8 or 9 people, but 15 showed up. The staff accommodated us - they moved tables around, created separate checks for the individuals in the group, took pictures of us, and got food out to all of us promptly. The food was very tasty. Ok we live for trying new places and this falls into that category. Drove from Pinole to try it out and came away somewhat mixed but def on the good side. Don't expect a linen napkin because this is comfy blue collar kinda place that serves great food at a good price. The crab salad/cocktail that I had was fresh and a fair quantity of crab over lettuce served with some spicy cocktail sauce, oh yah! lol. Along with their Paradise ice tea think Long Island but with pineapple instead of cola. Non drinkers beware because it'll getcha before you realize it! She ordered the wedge salad which was fresh and cold and topped with plenty of blue cheese dressing along with a generous amount of bacon bits. And we Did not need to ask for more dressing! Thats a win in my book. I ordered the Momo's Bolognese and it was stellar. Pappardelle pasta with a meaty, saucy, sorta spicy sauce which I loved and will return just for that. She was like meh. But it was all mine anyways so more for me lol. It also came with sliced toasted bread which I was able to soak the extra sauce into. Oh lordy! Was so disappointed in food quality. Most of us at table had crab louie. Big pile of crab...thought I was in heaven. Then started eating and noticed there was no flavor to the crab. None. Totally absent. Well I just assumed that was due to previously frozen crabs so continued eating. Half way through the meal my tongue started tingling. I have never had this happen before so I took a few more bits thinking it had nothing to do with the food. It continued with every bite. Was it the crab? Probably since that was what I was mostly eating. Could have been the salad stuff though as well. In any case I stopped eating halfway through the meal. Asked my partner to taste my crab. He did not have a reaction to it but said it tased worse than his crab which was also tasteless. So...it wasn't until I left and started reading that I realized that either I was having an allergic reaction to the crab OR there was an inordinate amount of bacteria in the food. Normally, the Sardine Can is a nice place, but I won't be back, for a while. They have outdoor seating, and they let me choose a nice spot. Fifteen minutes passed, and no one came to check on me. I wasn't in the mood, for any issues, so I just left and ate somewhere else. read more

The staff here are great. They have tables outside unfortunately overlooking the parking lot. The cocktails were excellent. The server also works the bar. At least on Saturday. My wife loved the side car. The fish and chips were perfectly cooked. The 4 pieces of cod (I think) were fresh and moist. A thin batter not over powering. We asked for crispy fries and they were among the top 5 fries I've had. I would go back just for them. I had the half sandwich and Bowl of clam chowder. The BLT was good. We were having a party of 55 people for our companies 20th anniversary. We were spending the day at Six Flags but we were looking for a place to have breakfast before heading to the park. I am so grateful that I found the Sardine Can. I worked with the owner, Mary, and we were able to rent out the entire restaurant on a Sunday morning from 8:00 to 10:30 am for a set price for 55 people. Sorry to any patrons who tried to come by to eat and the restaurant was closed. To make it easier we offered 4 plates that I had my employees pick out their choices a week prior to coming. When we arrived, Marna and Nadia were our servers. They took care of everything and were great to work with. The food was delicious and hot and the coffee was the best! And the order was wrong..then when we packed up our food to leave and eat at home my husband couldn't get out of his chair Because the diner behind him had his chair right up against his. The sardin is a cool spot. It's not great but its worth going for lunch. I had the avocado grill crab sandwich with real crab and imitation crab mix with a little bit of mayo because I don't like mayo but it was such a little bit it was nice to be with Swiss cheese and avocado and some fries which were delicious. My mother had their burger grilled char burger, their burgers is probably one of the best items they have on their menu it comes with a ton of fries it is really good really flavorful I don't eat meat my mom eats meat but years ago and I didn't eat meat I had one of their burgers and it was quite delicious. They had a good drink called the blue ocean which was really good I really enjoyed it we ate outside it's a very historical roots running a little it's been a long time so it's not really updated and furnishings but it's history is tied to Vallejo. I went to the Ssardine Can the other day. Was totally disappointed in the food. I do not know if they have a new owner, but it was not good. Love sitting out on the deck... Had the crab sandwich and it was horrible! Tiny smashed layer of crab kind of scorched...4 slices of avocado you could read through...Was so disappointed. My friend had Crab Louie...2 wedges of ice beg lettuce, some ugly crab sitting on top and other slices of tomato, cucumber, 2 halves of hard boiled egg and dressing on the side. Pitiful. I was looking forward to the Grilled Crab sandwich for the longest time after hearing about it from a friend, and it was really good, but I'm also NOT a big fan of imitation crab meat. They say in the menu that it's a combination of both real and imitation crab, but when I took a bite of the crab melt, I tasted mostly the imitation crab meat. I guess to make it affordable at $15, you wouldn't be able to do 100% real crab, but I was a little sad that it wasn't at least more real crab than the imitation crab meat. The taste of the imitation crab meat was so strong that it wasn't really quite to my liking. Clam chowder was also alright. We were able to eat here using their patio seating early in July. The clam chowder was excellent! So full of clams, potatoes, and buttery goodness! The grilled crab and avocado sandwich was very good. We also had the clam strips, which were delicious but not unlike those served at most places. The inside of the restaurant looked very cool. We could only see it from outside due to COVID regulations. If you want a view of something other than the parking lot, ask to sit out back. They are just a couple picnic tables, but you have a view of the harbor, bridge, and boats. Lastly, this place is hidden, tucked back at the end of a little road. Surprisingly my first time here only because I've lived literally three minutes away from it for the past 10 years. I took the boo here for her first time as well. It's located right off the boat docks next to the mare island lift bridge. It might be a little to find but once you turn in to harbor way, just keep driving to the very end of the road and you'll see it on your left. The inside is clean and we definitely got historical vibes from the decorations and set up from the restaurant. We ordered their fish &chips and a cup of clam chowder to share. The fish was fried perfectly and the batter had a light crisp to compliment the soft textured cod. The clam chowder was thiccc enough to dip crackers in and eat it that way. I personally liked their tartar sauce, it was a bit watery, but otherwise different from the usual. Service was oookay hence the three stars. We were greeted on time but once the food was dropped off, we weren't checked on once throughout our stay other than asking for the check. Prices for their items are average. We like to Come here for lunch. We never realized they served breakfast . So today 11/6/21 we went in. Everything sounded good . We had a hard time choosing. I had the eggs, sausage patties and home style potatoes. And substituted the toast for a Biscuit. Gravy was extra but well worth the taste , the amount and the price. My husband and I shared it.
