I haven't gone back but someone from the staff responded to my recent review and said that the customer they catered too was someone who kept them in business during the lockdown of 2020....so look I get it. This business has every God given American right to serve who they want to serve in the order that they want to serve it. My last review which wasn't that bad (THEIR SERVER WAS THE ONE WHO SAID THE GUY WAS A DIVA AND SHE DIDN'T DIDN'T KNOW HOW HE WOULD REACT...) I still planned on going back to this place again in the future; its cute and the food is good! I just wanted others to know what the current climate was like and that's MY RIGHT. However, whoever answered the review felt how they felt and unfortunately now I have to say goodbye to their apple butter. I will never go here again, solely based on the customer service. Clam chowder, crab sandwich and bacon cheddar burger are what we come back to order when we do come here because it's very tasty. When I order clam chowder I have a bite of clam in every bite! Can't say that for most places. Burger is delish and the bacon to go on top is huge! You can sit outside in the front area where is nice an shaded or inside where it has a marine feel to it and cute views of the waterfront boats. Sunday they have live jazz in the evening! I've seen and heard many reviews from my friends in Vallejo about the Sardine Can. I cannot believe I haven't stop by here before. We had just came from visiting the famous Mare Island Naval Shipyard. My husband was stationed here before the closure of the base. I'm glad we're able to still enjoy the scenery. The food was very good. Specially there crab sandwich. By the lord, what a delight this sandwich was! The staff was also friendly. A couple of wonderful teenagers were assisting us while we dined here. My only issue was the bathroom. Seems like it was neglected but overall I love this location and shall return! This is a hard review for me to write because there were some things I loved and some things I hated. Loved: - The atmosphere. Very aesthetic, loved that it was on the water, loved that it has kept a lot of the "older vibe" to it. -The fish part of my boyfriend's order of fish and chips. Super crisp and fresh and delicious. Could eat that for days. Hated: -The fries were cold. Almost seemed like reheated. -My shrimp sandwich I ordered was supposed to come with some mayo and Dijon mustard on it, but it was quite literally drowning in the mixture. Wet. Sloppy. Kind of an odd dish. If they lightened up on the sauce mixture and let the shrimp shine a little more, I think it would be bomb. This place is an old time favorite of my boyfriends family and I've only been once, so I hope this was just an off day for them. This small restaurant in Vallejo "The Sardine Can" has really good sandwiches! Once entering I immediately got seated. And once I ordered my food (which only took 5-10 minutes to come out). I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Which had juicy and tender meat, crunchy bread, and savory bacon with every bite. And I have to mention the amazing view you get as your eating. People in my party ordered: crab sandwich, fish and chips, oysters, linguine and clams, cheesecake and red velvet cake. The oysters smelled horrible to quite of few people at our table but the person who ordered them ate them any way. It took them one hour to make linguine and clams served up with a side of burned toast. Service was polite. Our drinks were refilled. I could take it or leave it it wasn't quite garlicky enough for me. Hubby had the fish and chips $15 and it was delicious! They have the batter for the fish perfected!! With the name and location we tried the calamari and the New Orleans style gumbo. The calamari was mushy and not good. Didn't eat it. The gumbo had a good flavor but while eating it there was something in it I couldn't identify. We decided to try out the desserts. They appear to be the kind you buy in bulk. We had chocolate cake and Italian cream. They used the spray cam whipped cream. Either it hadn't been stored right or they didn't shake it as it was melted. The bathroom was clean. Service was fine. Came here for one thing, the clam chowder. We had, the day before, picked up the most amazing bread with garlicky artichokes asked into it! You'll find that review in a place in Pescadero. So loved the customer service. Ordered clam chowder. Came in styrofoam cups with lids and lotsa packaged saltines. The clams in the clam chowder were surprisingly good, tender, not overly chewy, and didn't get any sand in any of them. There's breadcrumbs in the soup that made the bottom of the bowl starchy. At first, the spoonful that had lots of breadcrumbs was yummy and richer than the spoonfuls without many, or any crumbs. The subsequent spoonfuls with the crumbs got to be a bit much. Not terrible. The seasoning was so heavy and profuse it overpowered the taste of any clams that were in the soup. Not terrible but not what I want in a clam chowder. The crab, avocado, cheese sandwich was delicious. The grilled bread was buttery, crispy and light. The avocado complimented the crab and there was the right amount of melted cheese. My server, Courtney, was pleasant and perfectly attentive. Not too little or so much as to be intrusive. Thank you Courtney for a relaxing early dinner!
