Dined in here on my recent day trip to sleaze side. The nacho appetizer was ok but could have used more chili in it. I had the buffalo chicken wrap. The chicken was good.... Nice and spicy..... But the wrap could have used more chicken and less lettuce and tomato. If I wanted a salad I would have ordered one. Compared to other places on the board, I'd give it 3 stars.... It was just ok. I've been hearing about this place forever. So when I finally visited Seaside, I decided to grab a slice. It was after Labor Day, so most of the shops and arcades and boardwalk activities were closed. But I was there for Sawmill and Kohr's and both were open - so it was all good. We opted for a table and each hit the bathroom while we waited to be served. And waited. On the drive down, we both talked about how hungry we were. Sitting and waiting to be served, we just got hungrier and hungrier. Finally I just asked my friend if he wanted to go to their takeout stand and eat the slice on the boardwalk. We would probably get helped quicker. He agreed. So we stood up and walked out. When we FINALLY got our pizza, it was okay. I was expecting really good pizza, but it's your standard Jersey slice. Which is leaps and bounds better than pizza anywhere else in the country, don't get me wrong - but for some reason, I was expecting magical pizza from them. I feel like the size is really all they're banking on. Too much flour on the crust. So yeah, just meh. I may never eat here again, but if someone wanted to go, I wouldn't say no. read more

The Sawmill is another venerable Jersey Shore institution. It's the first thing you see when you hit the beginning, or South end of the Seaside Boardwalk or the last place you see if you're heading home to the municipal parking lots. Practical Note: The parking meters ARE enforced year round. There's some fine print on the signs posted in the lots and on the street. I went here to watch a football game one wintry Sunday and got a nice big parking ticket when I came out after the game. The meters are enforced 24/7 from May through September, but then the small print indicates they are enforced from Thurs night through Mon. morning the rest of the year. I saw about 20 cars with tickets that time I got nailed. It is a great place to watch sports and for sure, the NFL, as they have the NFL Package and label each TV with the game that will be airing on that TV. This way if you get there early enough, you'll be guaranteed with being right in front of the right TV! I met Jimbo here yesterday and had a great Bacon Cheese Burger and Fries along with a few Lienenkugel Classic Ambers on tap. Nice! There were rumors that The Sawmill was closed but they proved to be false. It's a large , sometimes raucous place on many summer nights and that has led to a hard time from the local pols from time to time. To me it's no different in that regard, that is, a hot spot for potential trouble , than any other large shore bar. Mix large, often younger crowds, with the Jersey Shore vacationers and locals on hot summer nights and the occasional melee can ensue in any bar from Sea Bright to Point Pleasant to Seaside to LBI on down. This is as it always was. When I was 21 people called it Sleazeside and many still do, but I love the place! There are good bands here many nights during the Summer and on weekends during the Winter as well. The "Amish Outlaws" were the next band scheduled but I've never heard them. Another thing I love about The Sawmill is you didn't see any of those half wits from that MTV show Jersey Shore here. That's because The Sawmill, like several other clubs, didn't want those idiots here tarnishing their reputation, and so refused to sign the releases necessary to allow the show to be filmed there. Kudos to The Sawmill for that!!! The Pizza here is some of the best you'll find on this or any boardwalk, but a warning: the slices are really big so one may do when you normally would have two. An earlier review mentioned that the only way to eat this pizza is to fold it, and it should be noted that the correct term for this is the "Flatbush Fold", named after the Brooklyn neighborhood from which both this folding practice and yours truly originated. All in all, The Sawmill is a great place, especially in the summer when you can eat outside and when the windows facing the boardwalk are wide open. Walking by with an attractive woman can lead to comments from those windows but that's also the same anywhere. Yesterday's winter crowd was entirely different from the summer, as in the winter the locals emerge and return like migrating birds to their favorite traditional watering holes. read more

we've always liked this place... it's large, with many windows and has an airy feel to it. last time we went we enjoyed the $2 beer special at the start to our seaside boardwalk bar crawl. the pizza is pretty good too and they usually have some kind of special for a beer and pizza. whenever we hit up seaside we come here for a few drinks either to start or end our day. read more

1st very happy to see that a least a small town of Funtown remained after the fire. They did quite a job fixing the place back up and putting tables outside and even lined up a couple palm trees. Not quite sure what will happen come winter time. New bar areas and all modernized but it is still the loudest dam place you have ever been in. My God why is everyone screaming? Stopped by for lunch with a few family members and service was fast and efficient even had happy hour beer and wine specials. ... First off I remember the days yes the 70's when they had a slice and a beer or soda special. The Pizza is still gargantuan but at the same time it was completely flavorless. $25.00 for a plain 27 inch pizza but what difference does it make if it has no flavor. Ultra Disappointing. Cheese Steak $9.99 comes with Fries and Pickle. Fries were an absolute 10 some square cut fresh battered fries top shelf. Unfortunately the cheese steak failed. A soft bun not toasted as described while the peppers / onions were barely cooked. Slice of yellow American cheese on top not wiz and the standard chopped rib eye that was pretty tasteless as well. All and all FAIL. The Sausage sandwich was slightly better but again the almost raw peppers and onions killed it. Basket of cheese balls at $7.50 were ok... but in all fairness I don't like them anyway. All and all it's ok for a quick drink out on the ocean south end of boardwalk. I'd pass on the food for anything other than the Fries. Understand the seaside ordinance but the ability to have a drink outside would go a long way here. read more

A local favorite and of course slammed packed busy all summer. I prefer coming here in the off season when it's the locals. The place is huge. 2 bars and lots of tables. They now serve local micro beers which is great. The food is average but they are known for their pizza. The pizza is excellent and 3x the size of a slice anywhere else. There's also a good view of the beach and ocean. Worth the stop. read more

I was visiting with my sister, so we decided on going into this Restaurant on the Boardwalk of Seaside Heights. We placed orders for Appetizers only. Excellent Food-Clams with Garlic and Herbs, served with a garlic knot., yummy. Blackened Tuna Bites-I ordered them medium Rare, omg!! Excellent! Spicy Shrimp, very, very Tasty, with a nice mild spicy sauce. Everything was Excellent. I'll be back next year. read more

There's just something about Sawmill. Everyone you talk to who lives around here just says it feels like home. That's where Sawmill gets it right. You just feel at home and you always see a familiar face. The orange crush is in my top 5 favorite drinks ever. It's so simple, but so delicious. Fresh squeezed orange juice (key word: fresh), orange vodka, triple sec and sierra mist. Two of these to start the night off and you'll have a good night. The pizza although average, is huge. It's the perfect slice of pizza when you're half boozed up and looking for something greasy and delicious to eat. The best part is you only need one slice to fill you up. I love the Sawmill and I always will. Despite the average food, it's the atmosphere and home-y feel that will keep me coming back forever. read more

Went here today as we usually do a few times a year. We are locals and we usually stop by in the winter. Today we decided to come by for something to do. I am certainly glad we did. Pizza was great as always but the real star of the show today was the roasted clams. They were spectacular! They came with a garlic knot that was awesome so Of course we ordered more garlic knots so I could sop up the liquid from the clams. I highly recommend them. Also ordered the peel and eat shrimp which was also delicious. Shrimp were of great quality and size. They were good, cold and firm. We go to The Sawmill once a year following our beach day. We were very disappointed this year when our pizza came out. The pizza sauce was dry, the crust was very soggy, and there was barely any cheese on it. The pizza looked like it was made earlier and just barely reheated. I even question if it was completely cooked because the bottom of my slice looked a little doughy. I think we'll be trying a another pizza joint on the boardwalk now. read more

After a disappointing stop at Park Seafood, We came to The Sawmill. Wow it was packed. But we were seated right away. Our waitress was on point, drinks within minutes. Our appetizer arrived as i was finishing pouring our drinks (impressive). Our main course arrives as we finished our appetizer. The waitress continued to tend to us making sure we were alright. Had dinner here this evening with family. Slices of pizza were huge. One slice is equal to two so be careful ordering. Food was ok but there were a few problems. Ordered two appetizers but all the food was brought out at the same time. I kind of went off on the person who delivered the food but I later apologized because I was wrong for it wasn't his fault. Manager offered us a free round of drinks but was never offered them by the server. When the bill came our drinks were removed so our 2 draft beers and 4 soft drinks were free. We felt we should have been offered other drinks, not the ones we originally ordered. All in all, it was ok. Again, be weary of the huge slices of pizza or you'll have too much food. I came to sit at the bar and have a few drinks and dinner. It took 20 minutes before one of the 2 bartenders even acknowledged me. It was not super busy . They were not friendly at all. It seemed as if I was bothering them . I ordered drink and meal. My meal came very quickly . No one came over to ask how my drink or meal was. Halfway through my meal I had finished my drink and neither bartender Came over to ask if I wanted another drink which I did . I couldn't even get their attention. The only time I had a conversation with them is when one complained that the kitchen overcooked her tuna. They took my plate without even asking if I wanted anything else. It doesn't excuse hostesses being snippy, setting off all the pagers at once to try and get more of the waiting patrons into the sandbar to drink, or waitstaff slamming plate after plate into the bus tub while loudly complaining about their bad evening. Our server, Britany Cloke, charged us for our own bill as well as another tables bill. When we asked a manger to remove this extra charge, he told us it was removed from our card even though he was *lying* and didn't actually remove it. We now have to have our bank involved to remove this unauthorized charge. I cannot believe management at this place would blatantly LIE to their customers. The food was ok, but my waitress was very inattentive from the beginning. I paid using my debit card, and when she brought my receipt back I realized that she charged me $60 more than the bill.
