I saw that there were a lot of bad reviews of the sawmill and I too had gone there for years. My husband & I went there all the time, sat at the bar, had drinks and the staff, service was amazing. We didn't eat there often but when we did, it wasn't bad. We always went to Marucca's which was right on the left side if your were walking in from the boardwalk. Marucca's was always an amazing place. Two brother's, twins owned two of them. Not sure if the original first one is still there. I haven't been there in three years. I will for sure be back to my home, West Caldwell, "Jersey" and my home away from home Seaside Heights boardwalk! read more

I used to come here has a kid with my family when we walked the boardwalk, and we raved about the pizza for years. Unfortunately, we visited today and the quality of the pizza was extremely disappointing, and the service was terrible. The pizza was clearly not fresh, just reheated, and the server seemed as if we were inconveniencing her. Not very attentive either. Sad to see this place decline. read more

Heartbroken. This has been an institution in my life in summers and winters for over 20 years. Today is the end of awesome. Ordered frozen drinks called pain in the ass at the same time as cheese balls and pizza. Cheese balks arrive, pizza arrive. I ask about our drinks. Pizza arrives.... No drinks yet, not even water. At this point now I have asked the busboy and hostess. The waitress comes over and Elaine they are called a pain in the ass for a reason...... They are a pain to make. This concoction is 2 premade frozen drinks poured into the same glass. Piña colada and rum runner. Skill level - kindergarten I ask if we should order something else and she's looking into it. She brought water and went to check again. Pizza was finished by the time we got them but she did take 1 drink off the bill. Was there on the night (April 26th) it caught fire. Smoked a lot and the fire alarms work very well. [Before the fire] Bartender Lauren is really personable and makes you feel right at home. The rest of the staff is good too, although the doormen are a little too aggressive. Sorry, but my 40+ self doesn't look remotely near 21 but was harassed anyway. I guess you cover yourselves, but there must be some common sense. Don't know if it will reopen, but if it doesn't I was there on it's last day and it will be missed. read more

Good food, HORRIBLE hostess...I legit LOVE Sawmill I've been coming here my whole life. The oysters are great, the pizza is incredible, drinks are delicious and i LOVE going and sitting outside in their patio area. We had family come from out of town and wanted to introduce them to Sawmill and experience the ambience of eating outside with the beach views. Lucky for us the sky cleared up and ended up being beautiful out. HOWEVER as soon as I walked up the hostess was SO rude/rolling her eyes/huffing and puffing like someone killed her cat. She told us right away she can't sit us outside because its going to storm (mind you people are eating outside and there were only a few clouds in the sky and blue skys in the distance). I said i just looked at the weather app and it actually is only getting nicer, we came here to sit outside we'll take our chances. She said no she is sitting us inside, brought us to an inside table that was infested with flys circling around us. I started getting SO frustrated and I said to her I do not want to sit inside its dark, dingy and hot in here, and she yelled OH REALLY BECAUSE I THINK ITS REALLY COOL, IM ACTUALLY COLD. Ok psycho, I asked to speak with a manager to see if THEY would sit us outside since Hitler denied us after a few times begging. As soon as I mentioned the word manager she yanked the menus from our hands and threw them on an outdoor table. We were in SUCH shock. Side note, our waitress was super nice though lol. 5 minutes later the skys opened up and were entirely blue (as I explained would happen thanks to weather.com) and she continued to seat people outside after us.. like what??! The absolute best pizza on the Jersey Shore.... And it's a big Jersey Shore! If you have never seen a Saw Mill pie, you will drop to the floor in awe! They are about forty inches wide. Uuummmm, yea that's pretty damn big! The people are awesome, the staff is always great (even though it changes ever summer... lol). The sawmill was good years ago. Went there for dinner with my family. Waited 20 minutes for a table when there was at least 12 empty tables. Then I was given a table that was empty the whole time. Ordered the fish and chips which was burnt and not much fish inside. Also ordered was a fish dish that was over cooked. Both were sent back. Not what it used to be. No manager came to the table. Made it bigger and can't keep up. No wonder it is empty at night. Learn how to treat customers and run a business. Won't be back. read more

I normally go to the sawmill a couple of times a year for the pizza and it is always good. just last Sunday i had a party and ordered 4 pies. plain, sausage & pepper, chicken parm, and pepperoni. It can get pretty loud inside, and the service can take a while during the summer, but it is well worth it! Price are steep but you get HUGE slices and hey it is the shore. read more

I've been to the Sawmill before and enjoyed my experience if only the bartender didn't act like I was the biggest burden in the world. And I went back this week in hopes for a nicer visit, only to have the same bartender with the same horrible attitude. My group of friends all are from work where we all serve and bartend so we completely understand the service industry, we weren't loud or rude. We were quiet respectable guests. Yet our drinks sat empty for 15 minutes without question or refill, and when it came to splitting the bill the bartender responded," you want me to split it with 6 cards or what?" Superlative afternoon hang. Cheap beer. Great selection and lots of specials. Excellent pizza ( get a group and order a whole pie for the real Sawmill pizza experience) Great no frills steamed lobster dinner as of last season but the price keeps inching up. May have finally broke 20 bucks- I am not sure. In general some good cheap grub here. During football season they do a complimentary half time buffet. Jukebox very mediocre for my taste but the 20 somethings and old sleazesiders seem to do fine with it. At night there are concerts upstairs and if not, there is a thumpety thump DJ and I avoid the place like the plague. Lots of steroids and fights and hair gel goin' on... and that's just the staff! And yeah, even though it's Seaside Park, to me it screams Seaside Heights circa 80 something. Stick to the downstairs before the late night clubbers infiltrate though, and this is a really fun place to drink and have a bite. Stay in the front to people watch by the boards...Head to the back bar if you want more elbow room, and the dining room if you're with a group that wants to eat. You would never think it bu this place is very family friendly and has a great menu and they have the largest pies on the planet! Was just down there and first time in all my life (56 years) went in for something to eat and everyone enjoyed all their different choices. The place was nice inside and bustling but there was always room and its very clean. Not the place it once was thats for sure. Absolutely watch the parking tickets- meter # 186 was ours and we got ripped big time for $45 and we KNOW we put in enough and went back with 40 minutes left and there was the big freakin ticket! This is a rigged for fast forward meter and take a before and after shot with your camera. We have complained and signed complaint for them to review. If you've been to the beach at Seaside, you've probably been in The Sawmill. In it's convenient location on the boardwalk, this restaurant/bar is a good place to grab some lunch while you take a break from swimming and tanning. It's got a beachy vibe, as it should, and has some good appetizers to snack on. Out of the handful of times I've been here, I've ordered the pizza, calamari, shrimp, etc. The food is tasty. It's nothing to boast about, but it really hits the spot when you forgot to pack your beach lunches. read more

While waiting to order a slice the woman in front of me who came off from a run took her sneakers off AND PLACED THEM ON THE COUNTER WHERE THEY PUT THE PIZZA. I actually have no words. From there I made sure our pizza wasn't going to touch the same spot where she left her sweaty shoes but it was WORSE OFF because they put our pizza onto a plate in a different area but due to slice size it hung off and was laying on a filthy cleaning towel. I asked for a new slice and the guy told me the towel is used on already clean counters so it's fine (mind you the towel had black all over it and was wet). I've never seen such lack in care in handling food EVER. I will never ever return and am on the verge of calling TomsRiver health because I've just never experienced something so careless - yes it's pizza but it should be at least up to standard sanitation code. read more

Have been going here as long as I can remember! Great food, great drinks and a really family-friendly restaurant. Never have to worry about going here with little ones and you can feed a whole family on their giant pizza! Last year they had a Pig Roast every Sunday during football season and included a Breakfast Buffet for just $5 per person...hope that's going to happen this year! Ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. I can't believe how bad it was. My sister had it when we were here last Wednesday. She said it was good. Not this time. The quality of pizza has definitely gone way down from years ago. I've purchased pizza here twice this summer and it has zero taste and when you try to fold it just breaks apart. The pizza is way to thin to hold it, impossible to get a good flop. Bring a fork and knife if you want to finish your slice. Vastly better options in the area for pizza. The place is loud, and I get that being on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights. It accommodates a lot of people which is a draw. But the food isn't great and the service is all about turning over tables and catering to crowds. Don't get the clam chowder (lots of bits of something), don't get the Caesar salad (drenched in dressing) and don't get the spicy shrimp ( too much oregano and not enough taste). Worth the walk to the end of the Boardwalk every time. Awesome pizza and decently priced drinks, especially if you sit at the bar area and get the $5 slice and beer. AAAHHHHHH.. the SAWMILL. Being a jersey girl all my life, from spending prom night in Seaside to taking my 2 daughters, in the winter, spring, summer, and fall. The Sawmill has always been the place to go. We bring our relatives from out of town, we meet friends, and still take our girls there, ages 24 and 27. My girls take their out of town friends there to show off, not only the boardwalk, and all the walks of life it contains, but to see the amazingly large pizza. Any newbie that we take is in awe of the size of the pizza and always comments, "how are we gonna eat all that?" The Sawmill is the Jersey shore. The prices are great, the pizza, wings, cheese steak,(Philly move over), is everything that you would expect from the boardwalk...GREAT. Also outside seating with pinic like tables. Have a beer with that huge pizza, a cocktail, it has 2 bars and also an upstairs bar. It is the best in the off season as most of the Jersey Shore is. This place is a must for any one from out of state, or is not lucky enough to live close enough to go all year round. read more
