Due to the COVID they only were offering the outside seating and they didn't have enough heating lamps for all the tables. Absolutely horrible food. I ordered polenta with portobello mushroom. The mushroom was burnt. The polenta was a square dry brick. The sauce tasted like jar marinara. I tried my husbands and it wasn't much better. Drinks were good and view was beautiful. Worst food I've had in years though. Loved getting no-contact to-go dinner from them during the shelter-in-place ordinance. Super yummy food for adults and kids. Ate my meal before had a chance to take a photo. Great atmosphere and service. Located in a gated community. Upscale casual dining. Plenty of seating options surrounded by fire places and lots of TVs at the bar. Gourmet to casual food and interesting variety cocktails. Delicious bacon brussel sprouts and short ribs. The pork tenderloin was cut into little medallions and slightly overcooked making it dry, but nevertheless overall tasty. Probably would be better as a pork chop on the bone. Pizzas good sized and cooked to perfection. Cookie skillet was warm and gooey; made for a great ending to the meal. Waitress very attentive and friendly. We came for dinner on a Sunday The setting and the view is very nice. Now for the food. We had a wedge salad, and it was very good, but you can hardly mess up a wedge salad. We had an appetizer of brussels sprouts, and they were cold so we sent them back. We had the stirfry with steak, and it was fair at best. Overall......fair food, I wouldn't come back for it. What really cracked us both was the fact that when they brought the bill, there was an 18% gratuity charge automatically added to our bill. I like to be given the freedom to choose when I tip for good service.Please be aware you'll be hit with when you come to this restaurant. The servers were very nice, but that's not the point. And, there's a reason our brussels sprouts were served cold. I suggest have a glass of wine and enjoy the view. read more

Called at 1230 pm and left a voicemail requesting a 5 PM reservation for 7 people. At four PM I called again due to a lack of callback from the Sawyer. Open table indicated they were in fact open this evening. My family drove to the restaurant only to find out they were closed due to a special event. Hard to understand why they did not change their voicemail advising people of the closure on this date. Even harder to understand why someone at the restaurant would not take a few seconds to call me back and let me know the circumstances. Will be interesting to see if such rude and unprofessional people make it in the competitive restaurant business! read more

We sat outside for dinner. It was a beautiful evening and brought our jackets, so it was a no brainer. They had a fire going outside, but we really didn't need it. The wine selection was very nice. The service was very friendly and helpful when it came time to place our order. Our server was polite and gave us our space which was so appreciated because this was an anniversary vacation. The food was really tasty and we will go there again next time we are in Truckee, which hopefully will be before next summer. read more

The Sawyer opened just about a year ago. They have done an incredible job with this beautiful mountain view restaurant. We love the staff who are friendly and engaging. The cocktails are handcrafted and the wine list has a great selection of premium wines. The menu gives you hearty favorites with a blend of unique recipes. Had dinner with a big group. We tried a LOT on the menu. Great food! The burger is killer. The pasta was amazing and the salads were fresh and tasty. Maybe the best reason to try the Sawyer is because it's just beautiful! Cozy booths. Big stone fireplace. Great bar. The outside patio has fire pits and spectacular views of Northstar and the golf course. The waitstaff was enthusiastic and so friendly. I'll definitely be back! Five stars! we stopped at this place after seeing the good reviews. not knowing that it's a membership restaurant also. but they do welcome none member and that we have to wait for table of 6 and a child for 30 minutes. since we already drove all the way to this place and figure we have to wait the same time for another places, we decided to wait. when the receptionist sat us down, she serve us warm water, still has bubbles from filling it up from the faucet. she didn't give us ice and told us our server will be helping us soon. immediately I said to myself "wow !! I've eaten in so many fancy restaurants and some average and never was served warm water like that! I look around the restaurant and every other table has iced water. so when our server came immediately we asked for iced water and started our order. then we had to wait for an hour for our food!!! terrible service ever!!! I will never go back, I'd rather spend my money on a restate any that value its customer. what a terrible experience!!! read more

The outdoor setting of the Sawyer is one of the big pluses. It is beautiful with tables comfortably placed on the patio. The food overall is excellent. Having eaten there twice in the last week, we found each dish to be wonderful. In particular, the short rib plate is great, and the vegetarian pasta dish is remarkably flavorful. It doesn't need any protein added to it for a great experience. Service on the other hand could use some attention. On our first visit our server (Joey) was friendly and terrific. She knew the menu well and helped guided us well with suggestions. On our second visit, the server was far less experienced, which I understand can be a challenge with staffing these days. And while it may seem like a small complaint, we were still eating our main course when the server asked if we wanted dessert. It was too early to tell, so we politely declined. Within two minutes the bill was delivered to the table with the main courses still on the table. The high quality food deserves some better training so the overall experience can be better. It was not enough to discourage us from going back since the rest of the experience is so great. read more

Came for dinner to celebrate our two year anniversary. We had a wonderful experience. The staff is super friendly. The location is beautiful and love their outdoor sitting. Our server Carina was amazing, super nice and attentive. Layne, another server, was very helpful and suggested other places to visit while our stay. Went there for an engagement dinner. We got there around 5:15. Ordered our food 5:45.. 7 comes around my party was split into two tables has a whole table move bc we couldn't be there past 7. We were hangry for not receiving our food . The manger Danielle was VERY RUDE. We went to talk to her but she said oh well wasn't her fault. Our waiter Nathaniel was very nice. I cancelled my order. Fried brussel sprouts were great, fried chicken breast was moist and delicious, gravy tasty, vegetables cooked perfectly, but the mashed potato was only half mashed. Dined here last night with family and if it weren't for the food which was actually quite good, I would have given this a one star review. We had an 8 pm reservation and were seated promptly at a booth and a nice busser brought water and said a server would be with us shortly. 20 minutes later, no server. Several servers passed by our table, none made eye contact and ignored our attempts to get their attention. We finally got up and asked the hostess if she could send our server over so they could open the wine we brought and get some appetizers going. We could see the hostess go to the manger and lots of discussion appeared to take place as to who would handle our table. Finally a woman came over and made a remark that she didn't know we were her table. She opened our wine and without asking us if we wanted to order starters walked away, even as we were still talking to her to try and order food. She then proceeded to walk around and away from our table, chatting with her other tables, getting them their checks, clearing plates, more chatting - without coming back to us. At this point we'd been seated for almost an hour without ordering any food. We finally had to flag her down again to place both the starter and entree orders together. About 20 minutes after ordering we could see our appetizers sitting in the window, our waitress appeared to be reviewing her checks and counting her tips. Finally she brought the appetizers over and thankfully they were good - Brussels sprouts, meatballs and what was supposed to be homemade potato chip 'nachos' but came out with tortilla chips which was odd and the waitress didn't say they had to make a substitution. Almost all of the entrees finally came out and were delivered by food runners, not our waitress. Those were all extremely good and nice and warm. I had ordered a pizza which was not delivered at the same time as the others, and again we could see it sitting in the window but no one even looked at it, just buzzed past it. Finally our waitress came to check how the entrees were tasting, well the others were all good but I hadn't even gotten mine! She went back and got the pizza we had seen in the window for at least 10 minutes. The pizza was good, but cold by the time I got it. All in all, we really were hoping to have a nice family dinner, but instead were left scratching our heads by the absolute lack of service and hospitality. It's a beautiful setting and the food is quite good and reasonably priced, but so disappointed by the less then stellar service. read more

I got the Truckee pot roast and it was perfectly hit and warm to eat while it started to lightly snow. It was like a wonderland.
