Tried this new establishment for the first time yesterday. Had heard good things so was excited and I'm thrilled to say was not disappointed. The staff could not have been more lovely and gracious. Not being formal members my friend and I were not sure if we'd have be treated as such, not so at ALL. The only difference for nonmembers was we were asked to make a reservation, easy as could be. The food was great my friend and I were there for lunch, appetizer was fried sprouts which may have been cut into perhaps smaller pieces but served with an absolutely delicious dipping sauce. We opted to split watermelon salad and blt&a sandwich with house made chips and the staff split out plates without even being asked to! Now I can tell you folks that doesn't happen around here, at least without receiving either an eye roll or having extra plates just being left on the table. The ambiance is beautiful sweeping views, intimate yet open feel, just plain great experience! Can't wait to go back. Also the food was wonderful, salad was light and refreshing and sandwich with chips were just delicious, only regret was we didn't have room to try the key lime desert. Next time ! read more

We had a reservation for indoor dining tonight and were told when we checked in (on time) that they were at 25% capacity so they couldn't accommodate our reservation. WTF? Not going back again ever. Their loss we are wine snobs and big tippers. read more

We ate dinner here, and loved our meal. My husband started with French Onion Soup which was delicious! We split the pot roast. It was very tender, and definitely elevated from your Grandma's pot roast. The prices are very reasonable as well for the quality of the food and the area. Bonus...they offer complimentary s'mores outside by their fire pit! read more

Our first ski trip in 2 years since the pandemic and my husband found this place. We decided to eat indoors at this place because of the reviews. It was totally worth it. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. The tables indoors were well spaced and when we made the reservation, the host seated us at a corner booth per our request. Both my teen boys had the steak and filet. They loved the garlic mash potatoes and street fries. The meat was excellent and cooked perfectly. I had the butcher block stroganoff. The beef was fall apart tender. The pasta and sauce was rich in flavor and comforting. Hubby had the linguini with plenty of seafood. As good as all the entrees were, our desserts were spectacular. We ordered the butter cake and apple cobbler. The cobbler was delicious but the butter cake with the berry compote was on another level. I was full from dinner but I couldn't stop eating that butter cake! Believe me, save room for that butter cake! By the way, the prices were very reasonable. Get the cookie skillet!!!! And the house chips appetizer. But seriously, the cookie, wow. Except for the brown butter pancetta (quite flavorless and soupy which was strange for a pasta), all the food was on point (we tried the pot roast, burger, short rib tacos, pizza, vodka companelle). I just returned from having lunch at The Sawyer. The setting was lovely and the food was delicious. There were three of us and each was happy with his dish. I had a Caesar salad with a piece of salmon on top. The salmon was grilled to perfection and the Caesar dressed perfectly. My husband ordered the meatballs. He declared them "delicious!" My son ordered the ahi poke and liked his as well. This restaurant has had some ups and downs as it struggled to gain its footing but today and the last three times I have dined here it has been superb. I recommend it unequivocally! My only annoyance was the meat bees that kept hovering over my salmon. Hornet traps would be helpful since we are all dining outside. read more

This place not only took me 1 hour and 30 minutes to get my food, but they got my order wrong 3 times. I do not recommend going there.

I have to admit the food and atmosphere here are top notch if it wasn't for the service. I've been here a few times now and every time I leave wishing that I liked the place more. There is a ton to like about this place but every time I am overwhelmed with unwelcomeness and bad service. One time we sent back a dish and the manager took 30% off because we took 3 bites of it. Another time when we came and one of our orders never arrived, We waited and waited and it until we had to tell the waiter that we ordered something that never came, he apologized and did nothing extra for our troubles. Today when we arrived we were scolded for being late to our reservation. Denise Sullivan told us we were 30 minutes late. I was offended and surprised and told her it was only 20 minutes after our reservation after looking at the time and we had already been waiting there for 5-10 minutes already waiting for the hostess to get off of the phone and seat us. Her attitude was uncalled for and extremely rude. She literally came up to us and clapped her hands and asked "can I help you" her tone was clearly understood and it made us extremely uncomfortable for the rest of our dinner. I do want to say Eva was an amazing waitress and almost was able to take the bad taste that Denise left In our mouth. They set up cafeteria like seating in the extra space to accommodate for the holidays. It felt awkward making reservations to a nice restaurant to get sat at foldable chairs and tables. If at any time any person came up to us and explained in a reasonable way that they were busy and backed up for the holidays we would have been way more understanding. The service was cold, unwelcoming and I honestly NEVER WANT TO COME BACK TO THIS PLACE! read more

Went to Sawyer last week. We were excited to try this restaurant. My husband ordered a Chopin Martini up. They charged $12. They also added $3 for Up and another $3 for Martini. Ridiculous! They also added 18% gratuity automatically for 2 people! Watch your bill!!!! read more

Wow...our first and last time at the Sawyer. We were greeted by a rude hostess with a nose ring and black tube socks who told us they were clearing our table. When we asked if we could have the booth we were told that they were for members only If they wanted them, and the gentlemen behind us were members. I preface this story by saying the TWO booths behind us remained empty the entire time we were there which was two hours. When we were seated we were told they had no specials because they were out. We ordered Brussels spouts. They were out, crab dip, out, two ribeyes...out, ridiculous. "Members" who were seated WAY after us...were served before us. We have a home in Truckee...and are too "Members" and have never been treated exceptionally better than the other guests in our club. Food was just very ok...and our food service comparatively to the "members" a joke. Wow. The meal was truly amazing, the service was friendly and personable and the ambiance was inspired. The restaurant is modern, bright and clean with a very open layout. If you are not a Schaffer's Mill resident then you must have a reservation. The booking process was easy though as you The Sawyer offers for you to use OpenTable. When you arrive you must go through a gate and then drive though the community for a moment before arriving at this beautiful location. We were immediately seated and given a moment before ordering drinks. We started off with the House-Made Garlic Knots which was enough for five people. Our server in no way rushed us to order and was friendly and knowledgeable about The Sawer. Members of my party order the Sweet Chili Glazed Salmon, Truckee Pot Roast, Chicken Fried Chicken and Stir Fry. There was also a small child in our party (age 5) and there was no kids menu however, the restaurant was very accommodating and made him something he loved! (A pizza or pasta I believe). We also went for dessert Two couples shared a cookie/cake style dessert well I enjoyed the delicious Cast Iron Chocolate Chip Cookie. The tab with a large tip came out to around $240.00. Overall I will say I don't think anything could have been better about our experience and I will certainly be returning. read more
