I had a $5k sump pump system put in 4 years ago. (ION)...I do see now under "JACK" they have switched their recommendation and that is NOT the one they now recommend. Since then, both pumps have needed to be replaced (one under warranty and one not). the inverter that cost $1900 for a new one has also gone bad...so they say. Here is how the latest story goes... My system started beeping, I called Scottish plumber. They said they would have KEITH out to take a look. KEITH came out, said I'm not sure but your battery backup may be bad. I am going to take it and have it tested (in Romeoville). KEITH said I plugged your system in, but you will not have a battery backup, this was understood. Over 2 weeks go by, and I haven't heard a word from them. I called Scottish plumber and they said KEITH is not in because it was Saturday. I got a call back from one of the girls in the office telling me that KEITH's truck had broken down and has been in the shop. (see other reviews, they use that excuse a lot). I am still very confused why my EQUIPMENT that was taken to be tested was left in the "broken down truck" at the shop and if KEITH slept outside the shop because apparently, he had no other means of transportation and didn't work for those 2+ weeks. I asked for JACK to call me back but apparently this situation was not going to make JACK any money, so he wasn't interested in calling me back. I have now requested 3 times for a call back and nothing! Beware, he will only call you back if you are purchasing something from him. So...the only way I was able to get my battery backup back from KEITH and the Scottish Plumber company was to advise them that they have 48 hours to return my equipment or I will be filing a police report for theft (I have KEITH on camera leaving my house with the equipment in hand). KEITH stated (and the girl in the office) that I was sent an email about the cost of new equipment but conveniently never received it. These people are out to scam you. Also, in 2024 when I had the 1st pump replaced under warranty, KEITH had tried to scam me and tell me that I needed to pay a fee as they (scottish plumber) doesn't pay him to take it to be tested. I have used The Scottish Plumber many times to help clear an ongoing root issue in our main drain. Each time they have been fantastic. From scheduling to availability to price, they have been the best service we have used in our close to 15 years dealing with this issue. Unfortunately the permanent fix involves either tearing out a large section of our driveway to address old clay pipes that have separated or relining the main. Each of the technicians we have worked with have laid out each of the options including relative cost and the best option for us is a regular cadence or rodding out the roots annually. Their service is so reasonable that this will be our path for the next several years while we save for the relining. Our most recent service was a bit of an emergency due to life knocking us off our regular schedule of late summer/ early fall maintenance. The technician Chris was able to come out and handle the issue promptly and offered suggestions on future service to improve the drain performance long term. I've used the Scottish Plumber for 13 years, first for my condo association then for the two-flat I currently own. But I recently had such a bad experience that I will never use them again. I had a leaking tub faucet. It's a simple DIY repair to replace the cartridge but I'm busy and would prefer to pay an expert to do the work so I can spend what little free time I have with my family. I was shocked to get a quote for $800 for the repair. The guy claimed it would require shutting off water to the whole building, multiple trips to the specialty store to find the right part, which he said was old and no longer manufactured. None of this was true. I don't know if the guy was trying to take advantage of me, he was incompetent or too high to do his job (he reeked of weed). I declined the repair, went to Home Depot and bought the part for $22. It took me 20 minutes to install. read more

Our main drain was clogged and while unclogging it they broke a part of the rod off in the drain. They opened up various parts in the ceiling in the basement looking for the broken off piece assuring us they would have someone close the ceiling when done, but they never found it. They got permission to open up only one section of the ceiling but took the liberty to tear out 4 or 5 sections without our approval. At the end of the job, they refused to fix the ceiling leaving us with the expense of having someone else do it and the broken piece still stuck in our drain. This was brought to the manager Todd's attention and he refused to do anything to make repairs saying our pipes were at fault. Will NEVER call this company again! This is a tough review because of the business model. My expereince was a little absurd and dragged on for about a week so I will stick to the main points I have to make. The consultation was free which was nice because many companies charge to just come and listen to your problem. The quote was on the high side of all other quotes (for everything) but we went with them because they had expereince with lining pipe (a positive for us since our house is on a slab - we wanted options). There was a project manager that did the quote and coordinated the work which was both needed given how they contract work out and part of the problem from my perspective. The business seems to contract plumbers from differnt places to come and do differnt aspects of the work so (1) it is dragged out and (2) none of them really know what is going on - they are just there for one part of the job. This structure for simple residential plumbing issues seems to be overkill and is likely why their prices are so much higher. This also lead to massive confusion when it came to communication. The office never really knew who was doing what and when so they didn't notifiy us when plumbers would be showing up. The scheduling was random and we were just expected to be able to be home to let them in whenever. Fortunately, I was working remotely, but I ended up having to leave two meetings and completly reshedule an afternoon during the week that the work was taking place as a result of the disorganization. The randomness of the plumbers selected makes it difficult to give a fair review of the business because they seem like local plumbers that get contratced out for the projects, again, not really knowing what is going on. Some of them did a great job and were professional, and a some of them showed up smelling of alcohol. When I let the project manager know-which I really didn't want to do but I was paying a lot for this work and decided it was warranted- I was assured he would speak with them. They showed up a few days later, still day drunk and assigned to work. Reaching out again at that point seemed futile. We essentailly had a $4000 project turn into ~$25,000 project - that was reduced to a $2000 project specifically because we took a proactive role to ask questions and get an assesment from multiple aspects and people as the sections of the projects progressed. Without a few of the local plumbers who were really helpful we would have ended up needelssly tearing into all of the concrete in our garage to solve a problem that did not exist. Essentially, my best piece of advice from this expereince is to make sure you get multiple quotes - especially if a project turns into something different - and ask questions - or get someone who knows what to ask to support you. The doomsday scenario that was presented to us was not accurate and I do not believe the project manager had any intention of trying to figure out if the massive amount of work was actually needed in the long run. At the end of the day we are happy that we did not have to spend the obnoxious amount of money we were quoted, the work that was needed did get done, and we are grateful that we were proactive and had some plumbers that were ethical and honest. Overall though, I would recommend getting additional quotes from other plumbers and reading reviews. read more

They prey on people who don't have any knowledge on simple plumbing techniques. They charged hundreds of dollars to an ex-homeowner who didnt have the time or patience to teach themselves how to fix a sump pump. We called the Scottish plumber out to check our sewer lines because we had a dip/hole in our yard close to where the plat of survey said the sewer line was. They said there was a crack in the sewer line and the quote to do the work was $9,000. We asked another plumber to give us a quote for the same work and he gave us a quote for half the price. That plumber went to pull permits and came out today to scope our sewer line and verify the crack we told him we had and said there was no crack and our sewer line was in perfect condition!!! He showed my husband on the camera that the line was perfectly intact. I'm disgusted that the Scottish plumber lied to us and was willing to rip us off to that extent. Always get multiple quotes and don't trust some of these big companies!!!! read more

Greg/Grigor was fantastic. It was easy for me to schedule an appointment on the phone, and they didn't charge extra just to come out and provide a quote. I needed a plumber to fix my hot/cold water line to the toilet (they were swapped) as well as install a new toilet. Price quote was reasonable and cheaper than another company's quote (for toilet installation, at least). Greg was very helpful and receptive to my questions. He also informed me that he could smell gas in the lobby and that I should get it checked out, which led me to uncover a small gas leak in our complex that had been going on for at least a couple years! Used these guys a few times for my business. Last May they reset two toilets for me. They had to come back the next day because one of the toilets wasn't secure. Flash forward to last week. Same toilet came loose and you could smell sewer gas. They wanted to be paid to basically fix their shoddy work. Called the office. Overpriced service and no transparency. We had their plumber check on a leakage of kitchen sink. While it was a simple issue where the pipe just needed to be tightened, the plumber determined the perfectly working faucet was 'non-serviceable'. Being a homeowner away from the property, we really didn't want to make the trip so we ordered a new faucet and had him come back. During the installation, he broke the drawer underneath (which is not the end of the world, it happens). However, instead of taking the responsibility, he said the drawer was already falling apart and blamed the tenants. The drawer was working fine. He left with a broken drawer that cannot close. We had to make the trip to the property and order new parts. All in all, using their service cost us $1k (labor plus parts that they broke) and time to travel to the property twice. I tried to communicate with them but no response. They were all nice when scheduling the appointments but vanish when there's an issue. Would not recommend especially to homeowners not residing at the property. read more

Needed a water heater I bought at Home Depot installed. Called The Scottish Plumber and they sent Jared out. He seemed knowledgeable and said we would need some pipes,valves,and elbows replaced to install the heater. He then went out to his truck for a while and returned with an estimate of $1,600. It was twice as high as two other estimates I got, I decided not to hire him. Then he leaves and sits in his truck for a while. After about 10-15 minutes he gets out of his truck -goes to the back-and pours some liquid into a container and throws it on my lawn! Just because I'm a senior citizen (and a Veteran) with gray hair doesn't mean you should jack up your price and disrespect me and my property! I called Brian & Sons out of Montgomery IL. They came out and Paul the plumber (30 years experience) looked at everything and suggested the same replacement parts for the heater install. I hired him. He started work immediately and in less than 3 hours he installed the heater, pipes and valves, cleaned up and took the old water heater with him. Total cost $700.00. He did an Excellent job! In the future if I need repairs I will call Brain & Sons. Reading other reviews on Yelp it looks to me like this company needs a lot of retraining or New Management. read more

Called them to rod my parents drain line to the sewer. They got there on time and took care of it fast and easy. More importantly though, they could have easily up charged us or made us get the more expensive service. Instead he talked to my elderly parents, explained the issue and told them he'll go with a cheaper option first becsuse he doesn't want to get them to pay for extra time unnecessarily. No other plumbers were available before the 4th of July so I would've spent whatever to get the drain cleared. Their honestly is what REALLY stuck with me. I would give them negative stars if possible. I hired them to unclog some an old pipe which required some digging outside. This all resulted in flooding that I allege was their fault. Of course they denied it and went after full payment for a job they did not complete. Three months later i had to have another plumber redo the entire work. Let me be clear in saying that the repair done was very well overall however I felt deceived by the end of everything. Firstly I had an appointment set for Monday from 2 to 4. I was then told Monday they werent coming due to a truck issue and that they would come Tuesday at 8. When they didn't arrive I was told they would be there from 2 to 4 on Tuesday. Once they arrived the plumber informed me that my repair was very difficult, water was most likely going to have to be shut off, pipes potentially cut out of my way, shower fittings removed and corrected so he could reach the area and potentially a full rework of the water diverter control. The plumber even referenced that he made commission per job and that he had time to stay late that day to complete the work if needed. He quoted me 890 for the work. I looked online saw many plumbers at the high end charge roughly 235 an hour and figured the price was fair considering the amount of work and time it seemed to require. What wasn't made clear is that scottish plumber has a "flat rate" for anything 5 feet in length or less. Now mind you I placed images of the parts used so for supplies it was well under 20 dollars and the plumber completed the work in less than an hour. I have photos of when the plumber enters and leaves with his tools as proof. Overall I basically paid 870 an hour for the plumber to replace a threaded straight and two 90 degree fittings. Even if you want to pull off another hundred for travel, heck even another 200 for travel then I still paid at best 670 an hour for the job. I explained to the manager that when quoted and told a project is going to be difficult and then it is completed quickly and much more easily than explained it comes off very deceptive, additionally the only thing the did for the multiple reschedule, one of which I wasn't even informed of was just told, were sorry we will work on it. The scheduling should have been a warning for me. Additionally the manager informed me that his prices were competitive to all other plumbers in the area and that everyone charges flat rates, I had called around yesterday however and found this information to be incorrect. Many other plumbers in the area charge an hourly rate. Take your business elsewhere if your looking for a correct honest value for the job. read more

Called The Scottish Plumber for a quote to replace an overhead water line in the basement. The man who came out was here looking at the pipe for maybe all of 5 minutes. He tried to upcharge me for all sorts of additional and unrelated expensive work and add on things which I never asked for nor needed. The Scottish Plumber quote was more than DOUBLE the 3 other quotes that I had received. Other quotes ranged from $1900 to $2200 but the Scottish Plumber quoted $4500 for identical service that was quoted by others. Seriously?????????? That obviously won us over! Recently we needed a shower repair. So to start off, it's took them about 5 separate visits to fix what was wrong (a broken pipe) and we were told when they came out they would bring a camera out to snake the pipe and find out what was wrong. They didn't. So next visit they did. Then marked where. Then it took 3 more times for them to fix it. They dug the first time and "couldn't find the pipe" so had to send the camera guy back out. Ok whatever so it FINALLY gets fixed, and all the workers were all really nice, however, now time to deal with the billing dept.... They did only charge us for the 2 visits it should've taken, however, I got really sick and ended up needing surgery which obviously ate into our bank account. I called them about 2 weeks after surgery asking if there was any kind of payment plan we could be put on and explained the situation. The lady in the billing department was so annoyed that I was asking. She said it should've been paid the day of service. And I said ok well no one asked for payment sooooo idk what you want me to do. She finally agreed to let us pay it over 3 months, but literally HOUNDED us for 3 months. If it was the first of the month and the check wasn't in her hand she was calling my husband multiple times a day. So needless to say, we will never be calling them again. read more

I received nothing of value for the loan and now I'm being hounded by the debt collector. I called Scottish several time and received multiple empty promises that they would refund the loan. Now I'm still being hounded for the money and they are screening my calls. One of their managers, Chuck, even told me over the phone, "We don't want to screw you. We will refund the money." We had Scottish Plumber out to clear a clogged kitchen sink in our condominum that has been backed up every six months or so due to convergence of building pipes behind our unit. Not only were they 1/3 the price of all of the other services we'd tried, but their serviceman (Phil) was extremely polite, effective, and worked his tail off for over an hour to clear the clog (48 feet of rodding required). He heard my wife mention we had issues with our bathroom sink, offered 50% off to address it on the spot and then did a second one free of charge. When it was discovered that an unnamed big box store had sold me a product that was missing quite a few required pieces to install the thing, they went and handled it for us, came back swiftly, and installed the thing. They left great instructions on maintenance and care. I also had them look at our shower drain and our dishwasher. They gave us great, affordable recommendations for fixes to start with considering some of the solves were quite potentially extensive. Ultimately, the work was done well, on time, and affordably. The camera was not working on that day, however. Instead of calling me to reschedule, I had to call them three times to remind them to come out with the camera. Two weeks later they finally returned with the camera. They promised to give me an estimate for future work. I never got the estimate. On top of it all, the work they did did nothing to solve the problem with the sewage line. My advice: Call another company! read more

The Scottish Plumbers Tech Francisco arrived with an "Old School" Power Rodder that had a 1" coil . He removed more Tree roots out of my Sewer Line than any of the other Plumbing Companies I have used over the years. He used a 5" and then a 6" cutter in my sewer line. Every year around this time of the year I have to have the Tree Roots removed. I have used other Plumbing/sewer cleaning companies and they all charged me more $$$ if I wanted them to use the bigger cutter in my sewer, NOT THE SCOTTISH PLUMBER !!!
