    Modified overhead system
    Anthony C.

Jack, Chino, and the crew did a great job with installing a modified overhead system after the recent storms in Chicago. Communication was great, and the work was good and timely as well. I found them to be more personable and fair with their pricing in comparison to other plumbing companies.

Example text of The Scottish Plumber cancelling my urgent commercial service request 30 minutes before the agreed arrival date.

Very disappointing! In town for a commercial project & we discovered a clogged rooftop drain. The "Scottish Plumber" told me they would be there the next day. However, 30 minutes before our scheduled appointment they called & said their truck broke & would be available another 2 days from now. My fault, I guess. I chose them partially because of their Google reviews.

    1. First, check their grade on the Better Business Bureau. It is an "F". 2. Scottish Plumber missed a large crack in my sewer pipes during my home purchase inspection. I learned of the crack a few months after I purchased my home and confirmed that a crack of that size was present at the time of the inspection. When you hire a plumber to scope a sewer, you expect that a large crack will be found. 3. Scottish Plumber quoted me $6,900 to repair the sewer. $6,900 that I should not have had to pay if they had found the crack during the inspection. 4. I asked the Scottish Plumber for any recourse. They did not offer anything but a small discount on a huge quote. I've learned that their quotes are often double or triple other licensed plumbers. Therefore, this discount has no value for me. They were not even willing to reimburse me the cost of the original sewer inspection. 5. My conversations with the plumbers and administrators have been extremely frustrating and unprofessional. The Scottish Plumbers have no problem arguing with their customers when it's the Scottish plumbers that are in the wrong.

My fixed sprinkler. Thank you Colin from The Scottish Plummer.

We had several issues with our plumbing. Colin from The Scottish Plumber came out and fixed our issue and gave us quotes for the other issues. He used his expertise to solved our issue with our sprinkler outside for a great price. I definitely recommend this plumber. I've used them for years and Colin reinforced my decision to keep using them.

NEVER SKIP THE SEWER INSPECTION WHEN BUYING A NEW HOME! I called The Fair Plumber and they sent out Manny first. He was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout this ordeal. He found the first section of collapsed pipe quickly, and I was quoted a fair price. As they started to repair, they discovered much more of the pipe was cracked, and there were sinkholes everywhere. The owner, Ron, came over to inspect it himself. We were already stretched thin financially, but Ron worked with us and gave us a great price for the entire job. The rest of the crew came out and within two days, over 100' of pipe was installed and reburied. Our thanks to Ron, John, Manny, Rob, Tyler, Rolando, and Johnny. Honestly, they were all great. These guys know their sh*t and how to lay pipe. I will recommend the Fair Plumber to all my family and friends.

I hired this company in January because of its strong online reviews and reputation in the…read morecommunity. Unfortunately, my experience ended up costing me thousands of dollars and months of frustration. After a sewer backup, they determined that a section of my sewer line needed to be excavated and replaced. I was home alone with my young kids and was told that it would cost almost $10,000 to do the work, but that the owner sometimes discounts if people pay cash, which seemed strange to me. Approximately 6-10 feet of pipe was removed, but the backup issue was never resolved, and they told me it would cost them several thousand dollars more for them to continue to look for the problem. The employees were extremely unprofessional, and were swearing constantly to me when they were explaining my sewer situation, which I have on video. Their model seems to be fear based selling, and they capitalize on people in their moments of desperation. They left exposed sewer pipe open in my basement, and no working plumbing for several days. At this point, I hired a second plumbing company for second opinion. They used the proper cleanout, found the actual blockage near the sidewalk, and cleared it by rodding, without removing the section of pipe that had been excavated. They also had to repair and reconnect the work that had already been performed. This was all done within a few hours, and never needing to excavate any sewer pipe. Between the original invoice and the corrective work , this mistake became extremely expensive. As I looked into what had happened, I confirmed with our Village that no permit had been issued for the excavation work performed at my home, despite our contract with the company saying they would submit these. I also learned that the company's village plumbing license had expired at the time the work was completed. That was alarming to discover after the fact. I made every effort to resolve this directly with the owner, Ron, before considering legal action. Instead, he told me to talk to his insurance carrier, who ultimately denied his claim. I was left paying for work that should never have been necessary and repeatedly dismissed by this company throughout the process, and they seem to show no remorse for the damage they caused our home and family. I've since spoken with other homeowners in the area who shared similar experiences regarding The fair plumber recommending sewer excavation. While I can't speak to the details of their situations, it reinforced my decision to share my own experience, so no one else is taken advantage of or treated this unfairly. If you're facing a sewer issue, or any plumbing issue, I highly recommend getting a second opinion before authorizing excavation or sewer line replacement.

He looked at the leak and went to Association office of my condo building to request a water shut off to change a cartridge. He was told the shut off would have to be scheduled. He came back to remove cover to see if I had a shut off by the cartridge. I did not. Even though I did not have a shut off he decided to remove the cartridge anyway, but was unable to turn it. Then he said if he was able to remove the cartridge everything would get quite wet because the water wasn't able to be shut off. Then he said he didn't want to get wet and would not try to remove the cartridge. He told me that he would have to return in 3-5 days when the water shut off to my tier could be scheduled. Since he could not remove the cartridge he decided that it was on too tight. He told me I would have to soak rags in vinegar and wrap them around the cartridge and keep rags wet until he returned. He told me if I didn't do this that he might have to go into the wall in the hallway to get to the cartridge. I told them that he would have to get permission from the Association to do something so drastic. The Association told him no. Then before he left he told me to keep the bathroom door closed and leave the ceiling fan on until he returned in 3-5 days. He closed the door. I told him that I had the fan on but wasn't sure it was even working. He did not check the fan and closed the door. When he left, he left muddy boot prints from my bathroom all the way to my front door. When I responded to the ad on Yelp the price to come out was quoted as $69.99 to come out. When he replied to my email he changed the price and said it would be $39.99, but before he left he changed the price again to $69.99. I am a disabled senior citizen dealing with a stranger in my unit and was afraid to question him. I notified his company about the mess he made and they said they had no one to clean it up except him. I told them I did not want him coming back at all because I didn't trust him. I also talked to Association office and we decided he was not competent and that he should not return. I hired a different plumber to come and look at the faucet. They came and found the bathroom door closed and asked me why it was closed. I told them that Preferred Plumbing closed the door. When the door was opened my entire bathroom was dripping water - from the ceiling, down the walls, dripping from the light fixtures and my medicine cabinet. All of the knobs on both my medicine cabinet and my vanity were corroded from the dripping water. The paint was pealing off some of the walls and bubbling up on others. The stain on my medicine cabinet was also peeling off. The floor was so wet I had to put towels down so this plumber could have access to the leaky faucet. Even though I had told Grant that I didn't believe the fan was working, he never checked it before he closed the door. The light fixture was blinking off and on. The new plumber told me that the water probably got into the walls and may have shorted out the wires. Even the floor tiles were coming up. The bathroom door was so distorted from the excessive water it had absorbed it had to be forced to open it all the way. I have been back and forth with Preferred Plumbing explaining the discrepancy in the pricing and the amount of damages Grant caused by closing the door, but they decided that Grant was not at fault. They also refused to adjust the pricing even though I sent them a copy of the email that Grant sent to me quoting the price as $39.99. When the new plumber came he had no problems removing the cartridge even though I had been unable to apply the vinegar soaked rags that Grant insisted were necessary. I would not recomend Grant or Preferred Plumbing to anyone. They changed the pricing and caused a lot of damage to my bathroom. They accepted no responsibility for the price changes Grant made and refused to take responsibility for any of the damages that Grant caused by closing the bathroom door without checking to see if the fan was working even though I told Grant that I did not believe it was working.
