Joined the Yelp waiting list. After a short wait we were offered the counter. We sat at the counter and watched the waitress whip by us for 16 minutes until she mentioned she would be with us shortly. We sat there for another 12 minutes and watched food sit on the counter for pickup, yet still not able to place an order. We arrived at 12:38pm and left without being able to order at 1:16pm. My polite expression of concern with the amount of time that we waited and time and gas we wasted to patronize this business fell on nonchalant and unbothered ears of the two staff members sitting at the front of the restaurant. We are headed to our 2:30pm appointment hungry and beyond disappointed. If we had known the wait was going to be that long we would have went elsewhere, knowing we had to be somewhere at a specific time. Great service, quick, attentive, and friendly. Went at opening time on a Sat, parking lot filled up fast and waiting line by the time we left. First off, the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly and, sincerely, was absolutely delicious. I had an omelet covered in chili and it was honestly divine. The chili was homemade. As was the grilled cornbread, which was buttery and delicious. The potatoes had a sort of tomato-ish taste to them, and were unique and perfect for breakfast. Perfectly crisped on the outside and not a hint of dryness in the inside. French toast was plentiful! Nothing fancy added but a better version of a diner option. The minus one star is because we were able to convince a friend to join us because of their salad option that's on the menu but upon arriving our waiter said they were out of salad AND honestly they never have it and should be off the menu. I'm a LA native and it's been a while since my last visit home. So one of the places on my list for this trip was The Serving Spoon. It may have been some 30+ years ago on one of my first visits, but I remember meeting the owner and how he was telling me that he wanted to keep the same business hours he worked before he retired from the automobile industry. Being here at The Serving Spoon reminded me of home, especially when the server warmly greeted me by saying, "Hello Family". Everything about my meal here felt like one of those Saturday mornings when my family comes around the kitchen table for some fluffy eggs, creamy grits and that spicy hotlinks sausage. I was acting as an LAX shuttle service the other day and I took advantage of being in the area by checking out The Serving Spoon in Inglewood. And yes, I was the only white/Asian there but everyone was super friendly so it wasn't uncomfortable at all! It was a random Tuesday, around 12 noon on a sunny So Cal day but the place was PACKED! And yes, the GRITS are as good as those in Texas! This was confirmed by the formerly Cali native but now living in Texas gentleman sitting next to me at the counter. Clarence, what a great conversation we had! There's a small parking lot or a sign that says you can park at the church next door (I am assuming that you can't do this on Sundays!) Onto the main attraction...the FOOD! I ordered the combo that comes with chicken drumettes, two eggs, grits and cornbread. The eggs arrived over easy as requested and those (five) chicken wings - called drumettes here - were very tasty with a slight crunch, light in color and lightly seasoned. Delish. The only sadness was over the cornbread. It was hard and crumbly - I hit it wrong with my fork and boom, it fell apart. All of the above, $12.80. Something has definitely changed. I was a regular here for years. I recently visited and the prices have significantly increased and the quality of food decreased (catfish, grits and biscuit). What's been a regular $25 breakfast was somehow almost $45. Service is still awesome, prices and quality not worth the increase. read more

As soon as I cut that crunchy red snapper with my fork and as soon as mixed it with my scrambled eggs with cheese for an amazing bite of all the flavors that made my meal make me feel like family. Let's start from the outside! There is parking maybe limited on the weekend. The food is amazing...well the fish and grits (my fav) the mimosas are strong and made to perfection. The grits not too runny not too stiff and The fish is served in a healthy portion, has a nice crust, and plenty of flavor. They also have hot sauce (Louisiana hot sauce ) . The restaurant is always clean and they provide a concha while you wait for your order to come, which is nice. Their dishes are reasonable in size, although some menu items I feel are overpriced. The food is really good ( well the items I have ordered have been good) I would recommend having more server ratio to the floor, I had to wait long for a refill on coffee and to pay when done and it looked to be only 2 servers to an almost hallway full restaurant. I had the cinnamon waffle, fried chicken wings, collard greens and mac & cheese. While my boyfriend's order consisted of French toast, eggs, fried chicken breast, and mac & cheese in addition to the "Sunset" drink. Next time we're in Cali we're definitely stopping by for brunch again. I don't know what happened - I went there today again for breakfast. On the menu, it states, " WINGS (5) $6.00. no problem, I love wings, so paying the x-tra $$ isn't a problem. Food arrives - only 3 wings and 3 drummets. Since when are drummets wings?? All the pieces were tasteless. No good flavor like before... the pork chop my sister had also not flavorful.... what happened? For what we paid I wasn't satisfied. Chicken needs to be SEASONED. The service, however, was good as the young man was very attentive. It was the food that wasn't good.. as much as I want to patronize my ppl- cant return w unflavored chicken. Plus- I was annoyed that an additional charge is 4% if you pay w card. I overheard another man ask the server about the 4% as well... We stopped here on our way to drop a friend off to the LAX airport. They have a great variety of dishes, it was hard deciding to choose only one. I ended up getting eggs with bacon and grits- first time trying grits. My goodness, it was delicious! The grits was soft and buttery I also believe it had a hint of cheese, the food was very different to what I'm used to but nonetheless it was amazingly delicious. The food portions are big, the coffee was outstanding and the bacon was really good. The cashier was nice, and very patient, incredible service, the people in general were very kind.
