Came here for the memorial day weekend to grab some brunch. We put our name on the waiting list and check out the mall nearby until our table was ready, so that was convenient. The service was great overall, the waiters were very friendly! The food was delicious, I ordered catfish, mac & cheese, and candy yams! I should've ordered double yams, lol!! so good!! ~WARNING~ Do not eat here with your mom. Food tastes so good makes you wanna smack...Iykyk. All jokes aside this place was great! The people working there were very friendly and the food was amazing. The service was very fast. It only took us about 20-30 minutes to be seated and our food came out very quick after ordering. They had a lot of great choices on their menu. The place almost reminded me of a Waffle House but better. Not sure if they have Waffle House on the West coast. Their Friday special Shrimp and grits 10 out of 10, Salmon Croquettes 10 out of 10, corn bread "bomb", Mac and cheese "bomb", and let me tell you their collard greens were the best I've tasted in a long time. Came to The Serving Spoon after seeing it pop up on TikTok, and let me just say--it absolutely lived up to the hype. It's tucked away in a business strip mall, so it might not catch your eye at first glance, but don't let that fool you. I arrived right as they opened and was one of the first in, but within 20 minutes the place was already buzzing with people which says a lot. I went on a Sunday, so some folks were dressed in their Sundays Best. I ordered the Shrimp & Grits and wow... they were the bomb. Perfectly seasoned, creamy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they know what they're doing in the kitchen. Food came out fast, and the customer service was just as on point--friendly, attentive, and welcoming without being overbearing. Whether you're local or just passing through, this spot is a must-try. TikTok came through on this one! read more

We found the Serving spoon in Inglewood during a long weekend trip to the Los Angeles area. Southern breakfast style food is always something we like to find and this spot was a hit. The menu has all the regular items (eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc.) what it also brings is hearty southern forward options like grits, corn bread, collard greens & catfish! They are a family business and everyone here is kind and engaging with customers. It's easy to see this is a locals favorite as staff greet many by name as they arrive, people sitting outside waiting recognise friends and neighbors. It was busy on Veterans day, and service was stellar. Collard greens were cooked perfectly, pancakes were fluffy, we ordered an omelette well done and it was delicious and cooked as ordered and full of meat. A side of fried corn bread reminded me of my Grandmas cast iron skillet cornbread from Georgia! It's not overly sweet (like a lot of boxed cornbreads are) , they sliced it and fried each side... and it was great!!! While we didn't order it we saw Catfish coming out regularly and the French toast looked amazing too! We sat at the counter and watched the food being put up and prepped for delivery to the tables. I could not have asked for a better experience in the heart and soul of LA. Don't be afraid of this unassuming location, it's good food, good people, great community !! I'd ONLY ask that they stock the hoodie our waiter wore because I wanted to buy one so badly!! I'd happily wear that serving spoon hoodie and tell people about this place! read more

Zero complaints. Came here straight from the airport and OMG it hit the spot. We could smell the chicken from the parking lot. 5 stars for service alone, the hostess allowed us to place our suitcases in the back room which was nice so we didn't have to bring them to our table. Our server promptly helped us and all the food came out quick and piping hot! It's your typical breakfast brunch spot but over all very good things were clean and welcoming. read more

First time coming in my fiancé and I shared the oxtails with mashed potatoes and red beans and rice we both agreed it was the best meal we have had in a long time it filled our bellies and restored our soul. I recently spent a little over $60 for breakfast and unfortunately, I was really disappointed with the experience. For that price, you'd expect a complete meal, but I was surprised to find that basic utensils and condiments weren't included with the order. It's something I feel should be standard, regardless of how much food is purchased. I don't think customers should have to ask for the essentials every time, especially when paying a higher price. It left me feeling like the experience wasn't as thoughtful or customer-friendly as it could have been. I really hope they reconsider this policy going forward because small details like these make a big difference in customer satisfaction. Good for LA. If you have true southern roots "do not come." I order catfish, black-eyed peas, yams, pork chops, greens, red beans w/rice, Mac/cheese, and cornbread. Honesty the food was not terrible, but chile I wouldn't recommend this place or go back. Cornbread nasty. Greens!!! take that mess off the menu!!! I ain't never had anything so unflavored in my entire 37 years of living; and why was it cut like that... lord Jesus ain't got on that cross for y'all to be punishing us. Y'all must be out of grease because why my catfish tasted like it was fried with the pork chops. Mac/cheese is just a no. Any beans is just a no. My new favorite place for classic down home breakfast/brunch. I knew it was real love when I spotted the seasoned salt on the table. Service with all smiles. Seriously, the entire staff is nice. Even the security greets you with a smile. Food is consistent and appreciate the appropriate prices! They will make adjustments or customize your order so you are satisfied! And I have been 3/3 times so far. The ambiance is so cute, old school feel of the counter diner with booths. It is an older establishment but very clean place. Leave your bougie at home. No reservations, But you can join the Yelp waitlist. There is a free lot and plenty of free street parking. THE FOOD: Breakfast burro - hella big and filling. My niece only finished half. Fish and grits - first off, this is a southern thing so I was super excited to see it on the menu. And they did not disappoint. I do prefer the red snapper, but the catfish was not bad. Chicken and waffles - nothing out of the ordinary, if you're craving it you'll be satisfied but nothing to get excited about. But the warm syrup tho! My cousin and I went to the Serving Spoon on Saturday. There was a wait but we didn't mind. Once we were in, the staff was so accommodating and friendly! Once we were seated, I felt like we were about to eat at a relatives house. The pictures on the walls and the intimate space made the restaurant feel familial in a good way. Our servers were on top of everything and food came out fast and hot! Salmon croquettes were tasty. I also had greens, candied yams, and French toast with a mimosa. There's a reason why The Serving Spoon won a James Beard award. Get the fried shrimp and grits on a weekend if you can. I loved it. Incredible service from check-in to check-out. The waffle was flat and not hot. The cornbread was cold, wouldn't melt the butter. We asked for crispy bacon and it was dern near burnt. All of this before 9am and they opened at 8am. Sparks, a handsome young man from Hamilton, Ohio leaves the security of a foreman position at Fisher Body, a division of General Motors, and moves to Inglewood, CA to fulfill his dream of opening a soul food restaurant. What is there to say about The Rusty Pot Cafe? Actually, there is a lot to say and I am going to get into that right now. So strap on your safety belts because we're blasting off to good ol' Inglewood. Located in the heart of Downtown Inglewood, this place truly is a gem. I first came here back in 2018 when myself and a fellow activist known as the Angry Gay Pope came to Inglewood to do an infiltration of the Scientology Org located directly across the street. I could go on and on about that place. But this review isn't about Scientology. It's about The Rusty Pot Cafe. But before we could begin our work, we decided to go grab a bite to eat. This was how I first discovered The Rusty Pot Cafe. So fast forward to 2026, I found myself back in Los Angeles. I had traveled there with a friend of mine who had some legal matters to attend to at the LAX Courthouse. We won't get into that either. So instead of sitting around in court all morning, I decided to head on over to The Rusty Pot Cafe. I ended up walking all the way from the LAX Courthouse over to Downtown Inglewood. For those of you reading this who live in LA may be asking yourself, why didn't he just take the Metro? That's a good question. By the time I arrived at The Rusty Pot Cafe I had worked up quite an appetite. One of the first things I noticed upon arrival is that they still had the same style sign hanging over the entrance. It's like one of those banner type of signs with the businesses name and phone number on it. You know the kind you'd see hanging on the side of a flatbed truck during a parade. I love it. I like how they haven't changed the sign's style. To me a sign like this ads character to the place. Plus it brought back memories from my original visit here. Upon walking into The Rusty Pot Cafe I was immediately flooded with a boatload of memories. This place was exactly how I remembered it. White walls with black tables and pieces of art hanging on the walls. It's not over the type flashy. But not a Plain Jane kind of a place either. More of a humble kind of a feel. Just enough character to make you feel right at home. Or at least to me it did. Anyways, I walked over to one of the tall tables and sat down. It wasn't long before I was greeted by a friendly, and handsome, Latino waiter. He was friendly and had the smile of a Hollywood actor. But not a phony kind of way that you see at a lot of restaurants where the servers are constantly trying to upsell you. It was that of a waiter who really cares about the customers he is serving. He didn't hesitate to bring me some freshly brewed coffee. This really hit the spot as would the burger that would soon follow. Now I'm not going to be shy when I say that The Rusty Pot Cafe has the best burger in all of Los Angeles. I know that may seem like a bold statement. But it's true. I've eaten at a lot of burger joints in and around LA and I've stuffed some tasty burgers into my belly. But none of them have tasted near as good as The Rusty Pot Cafe's burger. It puts In-N-Out's burgers to shame. The angus beef is soooooooo delicious and they cook it just the way meat should be cooked for a burger. Not well done and not rare either. But just enough so that those wonderful flavors come out of the patty and into your mouth. My oh my did this hit the spot. So did the flavor able fries that were served with the burger. Seriously The Rusty Pot Cafe's house burger is AMAZING! I highly recommend it. This burger is better than sex. The service at The Rusty Cafe is also top notch. The waiters were very attentive and are always checking on the customers to see if any of us needed more coffee or water or another margarita. Hold it. They don't serve margaritas here. You got to go to Los Amigos for that. But I think you get the idea. I really dig this. One thing I hate is when you go somewhere to eat and the servers let your drink go empty. Then you got to flag someone down in order to get some more coffee or whatever you're drinking. That is such rubbish. But that is not a problem at The Rusty Pot Cafe. Their servers will make sure your cup gets refilled before it goes empty. These folks are right on top of it. So if you have gotten to this point, I am sure you will see that I really love The Rusty Pot Cafe. I live about 3 hours north of Los Angeles and I would make a trip down there just so I can go eat at The Rusty Pot Cafe. And that's real talk. So if you happen to be in the LA area and want to fill your belly with some delicious food, I highly recommend that you make the trek over to Downtown Inglewood and check out The Rusty Pot Cafe. I normally only drink coffee once a day, but I came here three times in one day, and every visit was amazing. Their Banana Matcha is hands down the best I've ever had, and the Espresso Tonic with real fruit purée is just as good. The croissant and bagel were both delicious and generously filled. The space is huge, with plenty of tables and couches, making it perfect for working or just relaxing. The staff is incredibly friendly, and they're open from 5:30 AM to 11 PM, which is almost unheard of for a coffee shop. Now whenever I'm in the area, I can't help but stop by. One of my favorite coffee shops in LA.

Now that I'm looking at the photo I took of the sandwich, there wasn't much cilantro on there at all. The pickled cabbage was at the very bottom buried in between all the bread.

I've been here about four times now for breakfast, lunch, pastries, drinks, and even to work remotely, and the food has been consistently fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The menu has a nice variety without feeling overwhelming. I had the chicken salad, and the chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The drinks are great, and the pastries are good too -- I'd personally love them just a little softer inside, but still enjoyable. The space has good energy, comfortable vibes, and gets a nice breakfast and lunch rush, which says a lot. Front of house could use a little more support during busier times, but overall, this is a Latino-owned local spot worth supporting. Pedro and the team are doing something special here. Good food, good vibes, and a place I'd definitely come back to.

The Serving Spoon has the best "soul food" in greater L.A. Soul food is supposed to be cheap and hearty - it's supposed to contain no-frills ingredients, cost less than $15 per entrée, be served in a divey restaurant in a not-so-nice neighbourhood and be cooked by an old lady that looks like Moms Mabley. The Serving Spoon delivers on all of those (although I didn't see the cooks so I couldn't determine if they were Mableyish enough). This place seems to be a pillar of the Inglewood/Ladera Heights/Crenshaw/Baldwin Hills black community. It's always packed, and on a Sunday you can expect to wait up to an hour. The last time I stopped in for lunch on a weekday I had the oxtails (served as a special every Wednesday). They were fall-off-the bone tender, not too fatty, and nicely seasoned. On previous visits I've had the fried catfish (delicious), fried chicken (a bit disappointing...not as good as Roscoe's or Johnnie's Pastrami) and chitlins (also delicious). I ordered the collard greens and red beans and rice as my 2 sides and they were well prepared, although I would have preferred if the collards were drained before serving to get rid of the bitter broth. On previous visits I've had their black-eyed peas (outstanding) and their yams (sickeningly sweet). The oxtails + 2 sides cost $14.95, which is a fair price. Other entrees typically cost between $8.95 and $15.95, which is reasonable considering the large portions and high quality. The staff are all super-friendly and treat you like a house guest, but when the place is especially busy they can get a bit frazzled and service can suffer. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant is OK, but I would like it to be a bit cleaner (i.e. no spilt food on the floor, counters and tabletops wiped better). The restaurant is located in a strip mall with a decent size parking lot, but since the joint is often so crowded the lot is usually full. May have been a little out of our minds to try score a seat at The Serving Spoon on Super Bowl weekend Saturday morning, days after Eater posts a feature article, noting it as one of the "must eats" when visiting LA. Expecting a decent wait, by the already building crowd, I put our name down for counter or table, whichever was available first, and after about 30 minutes or so, a couple of counter spots opened up. There was a great energy in the lot where locals and visitors waited, repping their respective jerseys, as well as inside the diner itself. Now the food - So many options and combinations, and peering at the dishes the other diners are enjoying, it's quite difficult to choose. I got the Jerry (3) pancakes w/chicken wing splits with eggs sunny side up. Super fluffy pancakes, plump flavorful (all about that skin) wings and the perfect runny on those eggs. Plentiful enough to take half home for a round 2. My friend got the chicken and waffles, which also looked delicious. Do you love comfort food? Do you love breakfast? Do you love delicious fried goodness?! This is the place for you. I got the yelp $10 for $20 deal and decided to finally use the deal yesterday! We ordered 1) the catfish (breakfast) + grits + eggs + cornbread (our choice) and 2) chicken & waffles. The catfish was fried DELICIOUSLY - perfect crispy batter on the outside with juicy and tender meat inside. It was my first time having grits so I have nothing to compare it to... but it was very smooth and buttery. I like that they add cinnamon to the chicken & waffles - yummm. My favorite thing about this spot is the service. Everyone was SO friendly and SO inviting. As we left, the owners (the older couple I think?) asked us how everything was and asked us what we ordered and hoped they would see us back again. Everybody was GENUINELY nice and gave you genuine smiles, it felt like everybody was happy to be there. And I love their cute little signs around the restaurant with happy and inspiring quotes. Such a great environment. Complimentary champagne sundays... is the icing on top of the cake! How awesome is that? I'll definitely be back to spoon some more :) Ps. Service and Chicken: 5/5. Food Options, Wait Time, and the Environment 4/5. We arrived about 10:30 a.m. for a Saturday brunch and had to wait an hour and five minutes to be seated. Many individuals here tend to stay at the tables long after they've finished their meal and paid, which has increased the wait time. Our server was extremely courteous and attentive. The menu is small and lacks a variety of selections. They are more simple and classic foods, such as pancakes and eggs. They have a parking space immediately in front, but it was full when we came, so we parked in the Baptist Church parking lot, which is permitted according to the signs. As previously stated, the Fried Chicken Breast was really wonderful. I seldom order chicken for breakfast, but after seeing so many positive reviews and so many other customers eating it, I decided to give it a try. The pancakes weren't my favorite; they tasted exactly like Denny's. Also, I wanted over-easy eggs, but they were incredibly runny, therefore I gave the kitchen a 4/5 for total experience. They also do not offer many alternatives on the menu that I typically order, so I had to deduct a point for all of those reasons. read more

From the moment we walked in, the warmth and hospitality at The Serving Spoon were undeniable. The waitlist kiosk made things smooth and convenient, and once seated, the service was outstanding. Josh, our server, welcomed us like family and made spot-on recommendations--I had the catfish, grits, cheesy eggs, and cornbread, and it honestly felt like I had stepped into my grandpa's kitchen. Everything was seasoned perfectly and served hot. My husband devoured his Everything Omelet with chili and potatoes--he loved every bite. One of the highlights of our visit was getting to talk with Justin, the owner, who shared the beautiful story behind this third-generation family business. His heart for the community and passion for preserving this legacy shines through every detail. You can feel the love and history in every plate. My friend and I were in the LAX Marriott for an occasion, and we were looking for a delicious breakfast. We were sold after seeing this establishment on Yelp and taking a quick Lyft from the hotel. The fact that we didn't have to park is a relief because, given how popular this location is and how many other businesses are nearby, parking can be a bit of a hassle. Speaking about popular, be prepared to wait at least an hour if you want to eat in. The ordering process was simple, and the wait wasn't too long. Everything was wrapped with care. We had a chance to look around the inside restaurant as we waited. I enjoy the nostalgic vibe of this local diner, which makes me feel like this is where I should be. I just need good food I don't need frills. I was rather pleased with my complete dinner, which included the hot link and grits, because I adore these kinds of waffles. Simple breakfast that was the ideal way to start the day. The cost was also fair. Would most certainly return! read more

I'm always skeptical when ordering grits at a restaurant. But baby, these grits were cooked to a smooth, creamy, buttery perfection. Definitely the star of the show! My omelet was also well-made, not over or undercooked, nicely seasoned, with fresh veggies. My friend ordered the fried chicken with waffles. The chicken breast was moist and had a nice crispy coating but could have used a little more flavor. The waffle was okay. I like mine a little crispier. These were a little softer, but the hint of cinnamon was great. The staff was friendly and enthusiastic, the restaurant was small with a nice down-home dining atmosphere! There was a bit of a wait for a Monday morning. We were seated in about 30 minutes. Overall, it was a good dining experience, and I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. read more

You just got served. And in a good way. By the Serving Spoon. Huge props to Trayvonne for the 411 about this restaurant. He's right. Yelp's right. In the words of my Aunt, "It ain't healthy and it don' matter." Cookies Combo with chicken wings and waffle is like fried crack with cinnamon crack. I was addicted from the first bite. He got a Sparks Combo with fried catfish and the same sweet waffle. I added a side of grits dripping butter more than Trayvonne sweats. For the price, it is hard to imagine any better comfort food. The negatives are the 20-minute wait and a tiny parking lot. Neither is enough to keep me away from coming to the Serving Spoon and getting "served" over and over again. read more
