We hadn't been here in several years and stopped by for breakfast. The food was reminded me of how much aunt would cook in Mississippi. Where we sat, the music (in my opinion) was a little too loud to where you have to talk louder to hear each other. The service from the time we entered to the time we left was great. Great attention to customers, but not so much you couldn't enjoy your food (if you know why I mean). To see them actually cleaning the tables after a customer finish saying is on point. My fiancé and I were driving to Culver City and we were so happy we found this great spot while searching Yelp!Friendly service, we were welcomed upon entering. Relaxed vibes and great food. The pork chops were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside, seasoned to perfection no sauces needed. We attended the Hard Summer Festival this year and decided to stay the weekend. Finding places to eat was easy, but finding fresh non-chain restaurants is harder. After reading the reviews we knew we had to go. It was the best breakfast I have had in a long time. It reminded me of having my Mom's breakfast beforw going to church. Over easy eggs, bacon, and fluffy pancakes. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito, and it was huge. We sat at the counter, which was perfect since I love to people watch. You could tell everyone that worked there had been there a long time and we either family or close to being related. I took a order of catfish nuggets to go! Best decision I made all day. They were crispy, yet tender and moist inside, not dry and perfectly seasoned. If we did not live in Riverside, I have no doubt The Serving Soon would be our breakfast spot. read more

Wow! What a meal! The wait was 15-30 minutes on a Sunday morning and they have a Yelp waitlist that you can sign into. Parking is a little tough so would suggest street parking if you can find it. Food portions were massive. I didn't need to eat again until 7pm! I was FULL. Ordered the eggs, potatoes, and Ham (which was THIcK and crispy). Staff was great about my dairy allergy which I appreciated. The potatoes had some amazing flavoring and even came with toast to soak up all the delicious juices and yolk. I went with my little brother from the Big Brother Big Sister program and his breakfast burrito was massive. He is a pretty picky eater and really likes Chipotle. He devoured the burrito. Usually he is hungry and I have to order him something else or offer him whatever I can't eat from my plate. Not the case today! He was full and I believe it because that breakfast burrito looked like it was about to explode. The vibe was awesome with mimosas, smiles, and even some dancing. So this was a whole vibe coming here on Thursday of last week, 6/13! Just arrived in LA for the weekend and we came here to grab a bite. We sat outside since we were waitlisted...30-45 min wait. Have been here before and it was worth our wait. While sitting outside, there was a bee swarm, that flew above us and they bees were dropping pollen, all over....got on my clothes so we had to move. While sitting there, a gentleman went in to get his grandson...so he would be aware of the bee swarm. Not that he controlled any of it, but Justin came out to make sure we were ok. And also my friend was able to share with him her "bee info". So this activity was a lot and very different for our afternoon...but we were seated right after this. Definitely not your typical afternoon here... Food as always was on point, I ordered the fried catfish with greens and yams and it was amazing as always. Just the perfect amount of food and can I tell you I need that cornbread in my life always! I know that this will always be a stop for me when in town! This place is definitely a little hidden gem. We were staying in Inglewood for a couple nights so we were looking for some cool breakfast spots locally and came across The Serving Spoon. Upon arrival on a Saturday morning it was packed. There was a 50 minute wait, I wouldn't wait that long again unless I was forced too. The vibe inside was awesome though, everyone was smiling, laughing, talking, and enjoying some pretty amazing dishes. I just got the loaded breakfast burrito with ice water and it was a like $17 before tax. You can get a regular breakfast burrito with one protein for under $10! My buddy got the traditional breakfast French Toast, eggs, and bacon. It looked amazing and like a ton of food. He also ordered extra sausage on the side and all they brought him was two sausage patties, not links, and they were priced at $7.80... A whole breakfast burrito would have been only a $1.20 more.. but I digress. Would definitely eat here again if I was in the area, but not really worth seeking out if you are far away or if you have to Ride Share over to it like we did (since it adds to the cost of the meal). Service was hit and miss. Both ladies seemed annoyed when checking us. Our servers pretty much ignored us the whole time after dropping off the food. I recently went to the serving spoon for breakfast on Juneteenth. The food was delicious I had the cat fish with grits and scrambled eggs. My partner had the chicken and waffles. The fish was very fresh and had the perfect amount of crispness to it. The service was fantastic very fast and attentive to your needs. I enjoyed the food, ambiance and it wasn't too expensive. Decided to try this location due to the good reviews. The staff were welcoming and our server greeted us with a beautiful smile. My dining companion had the pancakes with chicken sausage and scrambled eggs which was delicious. I had the shrimp and grits dish. The fried shrimp was wonderfully flavored but the grits and sauce/ gravy were not as flavorful. The sauce seemed to take away from the overall taste of the dish. Overall, a great experience! Quality food and service. We just came back from our anniversary trip HUNGRY and fatigue. So I searched my places to go to on YELP and chose The Serving Spoon. Now parking was difficult to find and it was quite small. The wait time was approximately 30 minutes to get seated and then another 20 minutes for our great tasting food to be served minus the delay in receiving my cornbread 15 minutes and hubby's english muffins 20 minutes later after our meal. Even with that minor mishap, it was worth it. To have received so much kindness from the staff and the humor from the beverage server. Unfortunately I don't recall his name but I do want to acknowledge this young man. He had an awesome personality and literally made our morning with laughter! I got the hot link but it wasn't as spicy as I wanted. Thankfully they had hot sauce on the table too. Their coffee was tasty and I enjoyed a couple cups-worth. It's OK if you like nostalgia. Joshua was our server. He was friendly and pleasant. The bus boy seemed to like his job as well as the young man that checked us in. Had a brief conversation with the 13 year waitress who will be leaving soon. Enjoyed all the staff we encountered. We shared a Spooner Breakfast (waffle, potatoes, 2 eggs & bacon) as well as three waffles with fried chicken as an upgraded protein (2 drumettes & 3 flats). Everything was cooked well. We weren't disappointed at all, so happy they offered Turkey and chicken breakfast meat options for my little Muslim men. When I tell you everything I had was amazing and seasoned and the customer service was friendly and welcoming. I never seen hot fresh food come out so fast! I had the chicken wings and waffles (keep in mind there is an up charge to get the wings) two eggs and some great Mac n cheese! Usually the sides at restaurants like this don't meet the caliber of the rest of the food but this Mac n cheese wasn't the case it was so good with thick cheese! The restaurant itself is a vibe music bumping small intimate spot with great music selections! Please keep in mind this place is small! The waitlist is definitely waitlisting we tried going before the church crowd and still waited an hour before being seated. If you are visiting like I was and want to visit The Dunes apartments (show insecure) they are right around the corner so helped us kill some time. I will definitely be back here ask everything was delicious! This wasn't my first time in LA and I had been skeptical after my first few times as I didn't have the best food experience but this place definitely changed my perception of the LA food scene.
