I was in Albany for work and found this place 100% by accident. I love a good wine bar and up until now, I'm not sure this area had one. Cute, trendy, busy, fresh and new are how I would describe The Shaker and Vine. When we visited, they were open for only a few weeks and though they have a wonderfully large wine selection and nice tapas - they did have some growing pains that often accompany a new establishment. The seating - we sat inside and my friend struggled tremendously as the sun was streaming directly into her face. They need to install some blinds or tint the windows. She wasn't the only one - the folks on either side of us either had their sunglasses on or were using their hands or menus to shield their faces. It took kind of a long time to get our first drink. The food came out pretty fast but we were in a wine bar waiting for wine. Would I return, yes absolutely. Was everyone friendly? Yes without a doubt. They were very good, thumbs up. read more

Brand new venue on the Mohawk Harbor. One of a kind self serve wine bar featuring many different wines that change periodically. Beer offered by the bottle. Decided to go after being open for only three days. We went on a Tuesday arriving at 5:30 and opted to sit at the bar. There is an outside patio with tables and chairs and Umbrian big wicker couches. Sliding glass doors which separate the inside from the patio were open on this beautiful , Sunny evening. We ordered two speciality cocktails and did not disappoint. I had the bartenders choice in which the bartender will ask you a series of questions and create a cocktail for you. Kinda cool ! Next we ordered two sandwiches. Did not disappoint! My Panini was grilled to perfection and the Spicy Italian sandwich partner had was delicious and tasty. We were both definitely impressed with this place and will be back to try other menu items. No reservations are being taken at this time. The place fills up quickly even on a weeknight. Only downside I saw, was a single bathroom each for the ladies and gents. Could be a wait if overly crowded. There was a mix of late 30's to 50's crowd. This place will do well. You can park on the street in front or in a parking garage across the street. I am a Schenectady resident who is always excited to try every new venue and waited impatiently for Shaker and Vine to open. My first impression started when I walked in the door with my husband to go to the bar for drinks and was told they were at capacity and couldn't let anyone else in. Never have I walked into a bar and been told I couldn't go to the bar. In fairness, after a minute where the hostess talked to a waitress, she let us in and overall was very polite. The place was definitely very busy but not enough to turn people away. The place is beautiful, the location on the harbor is great and the outdoor area is really nice. I thought the bartenders were very good as well. The system that they have has its pros and cons. We sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine and a cocktail. In that case, the bartender makes the cocktail and you have to wait for the woman across the way at the wine station to bring over the wine. This meant that after waiting for them to make a craft cocktail, my husband still had to wait a few minutes for the glass of wine. As other people have mentioned, wine is self serve. Cool concept. You get a card, wines are along the wall, etc. Fun! However, a group came up to pay for their wine and order a cocktail. No can do. You must bring your card to the wine cashier and pay for cocktails at the bar. This is a pain when it's busy, not to mention not being able to get a glass poured quickly at the bar. The place is a good size, however, half or even more than half of the seating is outside. I see this as a potential problem in the winter, particularly because most of the seating inside is lounge: I.e. chairs and little coffee tables which don't accommodate a lot of people. And the bar? Very small. I mean small. It's not a place you can really go and plan to hang out by the bar. It is not designed for that. Also, I love a nicer venue that's a little upscale but I thought it was very expensive. The wine comes out in varying sizes and it's not easy to see the price. It adds up fast and I had friends that ended up with a very large bill after tasting various wines. We didn't eat though I've heard good things about the food. It's a beautiful place and great location but I think it needs some serious tweaking. The two part system of cocktails from a bartender and self serve wine makes things difficult. If they can straighten that out and maybe the pricing, it could be 5 stars. read more

We really loved the atmosphere, both inside and out. The drinks were good and the entrees were fair. Next time we will try small plates in hopes of better quality. Both food and drinks are pricy however it's a fair trade off for the ambience. read more

I've been here 4 times with different groups. I keep going back because I like the unique concept of the self serve wine but I will not be going again. The service had been really bad all 4 times. Gave them chances because the were new but it is no excuse any longer. They were out of the item I ordered on the menu so I ordered something different. The wrong food came. The servers aren't smart enough or scared to raise anything to managers attention. There are always new servers. Never see the same employees and the inexperience and turnover is going to kill that place. Management should take some training classes and bring the findings back to the team or this place will NOT make it. In desperate need of a big service upgrade. read more

Went for the first time with some friends. I got a Smokey Mellon drink which was delicious. And then switched to wine. I was not overly impressed with the choices too many fancy wines which for a sip over 3 dollars some cost I'd rather buy a bottle of my inexpensive reds from empire wine and have more than a sip. I did try 3 wines and they were a little flat on the palate. We ordered a charcuterie platter and the cheese and jams were delicious as were the breads but the meat had the sheen of a prepackaged meat which sometimes looks a little rainbow. No thank you!!!! also the chicken on the flatbread also had the appearance on pre cooked or packaged chicken strips. For the price I think the food was not worth it. I would go again for drinks however as the atmosphere is nice and the melon cocktails was very yummy read more

Packed on the last Saturday evening of summer. The venue is excellent. The view over the river is lovely and perfect for photos. Almost too cool for Schenectady NY. Having lived in Manhattan and DuPont Circle, I would have been happy with this spot in either of those cities, and am thrilled to have it in Schenectady. Wines reasonably priced. Fun to have option to try lots of sips for as low as $1.75. I cannot speak to the food. read more

The only downside was when I asked the staff member to recommend a dry white wine she was unsure and just showed me the most popular wines which were mostly rosé. We went on Thursday night for the first time. Great variety of wines, 50 to choose from! Self service pouring is awesome. We waited off to the side for a table. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason behind getting a table. We checked in with the host and she told us to jump on one that opened up! We waited about 25 minutes but it was well worth it! We had the cheese fondue which was big enough for both of us to simply has as a meal. I got a salad with smoked salmon and Kelly had one of their flatbreads. The manager followed up with us to check and see how our experience was and the service staff were great. Only reason for 4 stars was the lack of structure at the door. We will definitely go back when it's nicer out and enjoy their outdoor space! read more

Visited this place Sunday night for a friend's birthday and it's amazing. Let's start with its so cozy, comfortable and cute. Perfect for date nights and girls nights. The wine selections are amazing as well. I tried Vipra and was stuck on it all night. I didn't order a menu drink (self serve wine is too amazing in opinion) but we did order from the kitchen. The white veggie flatbread is amazing, I almost ordered a second flatbread but the kitchen closed. My friends and I call this place our happy place. I can't wait to return. read more

Good concept but bad service. Had to ask 3 different workers to wipe down a spot that we found outside. When my boyfriend and I first got there, we asked for a table for two, and the hostess looked confused. Didn't tell us it was self serve or you seat yourself. So we asked to be put on the waitlist, again she said we don't have a list or take reservations but did not let us know what the vibe was. Hostess just left us hanging for us to figure out. This place is phenomenal!!! The wine on draft is so unique, and the food is fantastic! There is both indoor and outdoor seating and it is such chill vibe. If you aren't a wine drinker the cocktails are out of this world, and they have a great beer selection! Another plus is that the wine on draft has different sizes to select, so if you want to try one you can get a sample size! The only downside is I wish it wasn't so far away from my house, but that might be better for my wallet and waistline read more

Really excited that this place exists. I have been 3 times now and have my 4th time planned. Even being so new, they are doing such a great job. Most of the servers seem to be newer to the serving game but give them a break if you go! It's low-key and relaxed, so to me it just feels like no one is in a rush and it's honestly refreshing in the food industry. I've tried flat breads, the meat and cheese board, and a panini. So far they have all been good - maybe would also love smaller plates to snack on at a lower price but I'm still pleased with it. What a cool place I love doing the whole wine experience. I was almost overwhelmed by how much wine they had to offer at first. I got to test my pallet with the plethora of wines to decide what I like. The wait staff were super friendly, and the food was delicious. Everything looked super delicious on the menu, I got the Blackberry, Bacon & Jalapeño panini it was perfect. I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes they offer. I can't forget about how amazing their bar was too. I ordered a Whiskey Smash and it was absolutely delicious. This is such a fun place! I love hanging out on the patio sipping one of their delicious frosés! At times service has been slow when seated outside and they get busy inside, but still a good experience overall. You can get waiter service for the wine or do self-serve with a card and help yourself to their wall of wines! I drove all the way to Schenectady from Delmar to go to this place with my family. I have a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old and the waitress asked us for their ID at the front door. The Entire restaurant is 21 and over. Families be warned to not come here with your children! I find it offensive that the entire restaurant is 21 and over. read more
