This place is very cute, which was a really nice surprise given the name and exterior. The vibe here is a charming, rustic, and comfy. The hostess and our server were both very friendly and attentive. I really liked the place and service but found the food very underwhelming. I had read a few reviews that raved about the lobster roll and brussels sprouts and bacon salad which is what we ordered. Before our food arrived, we were served warm bread rolls that came in a paper bag with some really delicious butter. I was expecting the actual food to be as amazing as the bread and sadly the food fell flat. The lobster roll looked delicious but was basically tasteless, the fries were limp and soggy. My friend's bacon and brussels sprouts salad hardly had any bacon and the brussel sprouts were dehydrated yet mushy. Maybe the cook had an off day. Overall, the service was great but the food was disappointing. read more

We need a sixth star on Yelp to describe how amazing this restaurant is. Five stars don't do it justice! My girlfriend and I were visiting some friends in Warwick who took us to The Shanty last Saturday morning for brunch and I must say that this is quite possibly the best restaurant in all of Rhode Island, maybe even the Northeast as a whole. Only time will tell. My only complaint is Yelp's lack of star options for this review. read more

My sister and I saw were visiting east coast schools and saw that they had crab benedicts so we knew right away we wanted to come here. We came on Friday and found out they only serve those on Saturday and Sundays, so we came back the next day during their brunch hours. It was sooo worth it. My sister got the lobster benedict while I got the crab benedict and we split so that we could each have 1 of each. My favorite was the crab and hers was the lobster. We are no longer in town but we definitely still dream about them! read more

Hungry after a long day of travel, we made a beeline to The Shanty for a late brunch. While the exterior is pretty nondescript, the interior is surprisingly trendy, yet cozy. I opted for the bacon and Brussels salad, which was delicious. More often than not, you order a salad that ends up being 90% lettuce with 10% of the good stuff plopped on top. This salad was huge and chock full of rendered little nuggets of pork belly, feta, crispy Brussels sprouts, grape tomatoes, and cucumber. So satisfying. My husband's fish and chips were well-prepared, but definitely needed a boost from the artichoke tartar sauce and a fresh squeeze of lemon. Glad to have The Shanty as a great option when in search of fresh, quality eats in Rhode Island. read more

I love The Shanty for a date night. Our servers name was Aly and she was very attentive; she answered any of our questions in such a friendly, informative manner. We started with the chicken mole tacos. The flavor was outstanding. I just wish they came with some type of creamy fresh saucy side. Just felt like it was missing a condiment. A bit dry. I got the scallops which were a 10/10. Absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. My boyfriend got the steak with what ended up being fried celery root. Ehhhh not fantastic. Cool different flavor but they were far too greasy. He ended up ordering a side of veggies instead. Steak was A+ though. All of the food is fresh. Last time we went I remember it being the same way. The drinks are fantastic too. I have to give an extra shoutout to our server Aly. She apologized for the app coming out late. We didn't notice because we were enjoying each other's conversation. The app was comped. We were pleasantly surprised. Not only that but she gave us the green beans for no charge. We were expecting to pay seeing as we ordered them and it wasn't a mistake from the kitchen. But she said that she wanted us to thoroughly enjoy our meal so she didn't see it necessary to charge for the green beans. We loved our experience here! My husband and I came in around 9pm with our 14 month old (he likes to party) and the host and waitress catered to us and our little one very well. We ordered shrimp lettuce wraps, bacon & Brussels salad, soup of the day- potato & dill, and fish & chips. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. The shrimp wraps were tangy and spicy- a little messy but finger-licking good. The pork belly in the salad was crisp yet buttery and the roasted Brussel sprouts, goat cheese, and pickled onions paired so well together. Potato dill soup with very creamy. The fried cod fish had a nice thin crisp breading and the fish was moist and flaky without being too fishy. The fries were sturdy(?) as in they didn't get soggy when we added malt vinegar to them. For drink I ordered was their Rosey cocktail which was both refreshing and boozy with the cucumber infused vodka. My husband ordered Liquid Hugs IPA and Another One IPA, which were both great New England-style IPAs. We also liked that their beer selections were mostly cleverly named local beers. This was our first time adventuring in Rhode Island and this dining experience is definitely one would we like to repeat in the future. read more

This place is amazing, the people who work here are angels and the food is amazing. The food comes out fast and fresh, even the bread they serve before your meal is awesome! We got curry chips from the bar menu, bahmi tacos, fish and chips, and a lobster roll. I have to say that my favorite thing were the tacos, they were crispy and soft at the same time and the filling was so flavorful. The ambiance is nice and it doesn't get too loud. The inside has beautiful wooden beams on the ceiling and lots of seating. It's definitely worth the trip. read more

Don't let me the last know come to mind when I think about The Shanty! I remember hearing about this new place in RI that was serving "gourmet TV dinners" I even remember seeing pictures and seeing it featured on The Phantom Gourmet but still I never went, it's wasn't until it's hard to believe but this place has been open 3 years that I finally got a chance to get the infamous TV Dinner! Never had something looked as close to what you seen in pictures as this. I hadn't had Cornish hen so was a little unsure, tasted like chicken but a tad dry, the star of this plate to me was the macaroni and cheese which was perfect, also came with a few other little sides which are swapped out pending the season and no TV dinner is complete without a little dessert! Beautiful rustic interior and the place was busy for a Thursday, Love they took reservation and the server was so attentive and friendly. Will be back as the menu is ever changing and hope to upgrade it to 5 stars! read more

The shanty is absolutely divine! My fiancé and I have been here twice now, and each time was better than the last. We came once for dinner and once for brunch. The first time we came here my fiancé got the TV dinner and I got the lobster roll. He loved everything in his dinner but said the cole slaw was a bit off. I had the lobster roll and was taken aback by the lettuce in the roll. I've only ever had lobster with a bun. Otherwise, the fries were crisp and the food was delicious. Brunch was Great! I got the Jonah Crab Benedict and it was honestly the best Benedict I've ever had. The potatoes that came with them were hard, and under seasoned. My fiancé got the red flannel hash and said it was yummy. The servers here are so polite and attentive! read more

Came here for brunch this morning. I really enjoyed my lobster Caesar salad. My friend had the lobster eggs Benedict and loved it. My gf had the lobster roll and was not that impressed but did love her fries. The place was clean, with a great atmosphere, and our server instantly won us over saying she was living the life. The Shanty is a must visit when you're in Warwick. My husband and I have been here twice. The first time was for an anniversary dinner, and we lucked out trying a new place with good reviews. I've been looking for an excuse to come back (our occasional Duluth trip) and we finally made it back today. It was every bit as good the second time around! I had the blackened salmon and my husband had the boulenaise, both delicious. The boulenaise is rich and flavorful, and came with polenta that was light as air. I had a Cherry Sour...wow! The traditional eggs Benedict ($18) at least came with 2, so a somewhat more normal-sized entree, although still small compared to most breakfast places. The waiter was very nice and the food was tasty; but so under-sized and over-priced I cannot leave more than 2 stars. We will not be back.

I must admit utter excitement when walking through the door of the Shanty especially not knowing what to expect after the renovations from the original restaurant. I was extremely impressed with not just the décor but the service, food, and beverages! My friend and I walked in to immediately be greeted by the owner herself, Kara. She had a great disposition and asked if we would prefer a bar seat or table, which of course we chose the bar (you will see pictures posted of how gorgeous it is!). Upon sitting down, the bartender quickly came over and gave us all the menus for wine, beer, liquor drinks (the infuse their own liquors by the way), and for dinner. I chose the gringo which was a new twist on a delicious margarita with a bit of a kick while my friend opted for a draft beer which are mostly local. After sitting and enjoying for a moment, the bartender came back over to make sure the drinks were to our liking and then we ordered dinner. I had the clams appetizer which were the absolute perfect size. You could taste the freshness and a bit of spice with little pieces of Portuguese sausage sautéed in with the white wine, butter, and fresh herbs. My friend had the tuna tartar nachos and seemed very happy since the plate was wiped clean. I did get to try one of the chips before he devoured them and they were fantastic, I think made in house? For dinner I had the "TV dinner". I found the name hilarious but quickly learned the chefs do not joke with their food! It was almost like a gourmet KFC hen, fresh macaroni and cheese, a little dessert, and some type of sautéed greens - all did not last long. The other meal was the crab wedge, so yummy! I loved the dressing and it was a great size that I was actually able to try a bit of each ingredient before it was gone. The crab was the perfect amount of flavor and the lettuce super crispy. Now, I probably shouldn't of ordered dessert by this point but after seeing a "peanut butter and jelly" bread pudding I couldn't resist. It was the perfect warm temperature with the fluffernutter gelato just scooped on top. I let it sit for a minute so it could melt a little and then dove in. OH MY GOSH! It was so good I probably could have had two. Overall, I must say this meal was absolutely to die for. Kara the owner and all of her bartenders were so nice and helpful. I know I must of been a bit annoying because I asked a thousand questions from the beer to the Narragansett coasters but the smiles didn't falter and I had a great time. Just got home from lunch at The Shanty, and I absolutely loved it. The wait staff is laid back, but completely professional and prompt - you feel like you're talking to an old friend who has a passion for food. I had the special sandwich of the day, which was perfectly cooked shaved rib eye sandwich(I like medium/rare, and I'm a snoot when it comes to steak, because i love it so), along with the yam fries and the tuna tartar. I usually try to save at least half the sandwich so I can have something to eat later at home, but it was so good I just couldn't. And lets talk a moment about the cilantro aioli dip that comes with the yam fries. To die for. It took all my might to not lick the container it came in like an animal it was that good. They have to bottle that stuff, it's quality, and much lighter than many aioli's I've had from restaurants that tout their refined taste. The menu is digestible - small but with a very good range of food. I definitely want to bring my sister here, but she's a vegetarian, so I guess my ONLY qualm would be to add just a few more vegetarian dishes on the menu, and it would be just perfect. They also have a unique and well balanced drink menu. I live so close to this place it will be hard to not go back at least once a week. read more

Disappointed by the Shanty's Priorities The Shanty has a charming look from the outside, and we were hopeful walking in. Unfortunately, the experience quickly soured. We were greeted by a host with a casual "yo, follow me," which felt unprofessional and set the wrong tone. Once seated, we looked over the menu and were surprised to find no option to customize an omelette or even order scrambled eggs. The only choice was the "omelette of the day," which happened to be filled with ingredients I dislike. I politely asked if I could order a plain omelette instead, and the waitress simply said no. At that point, we decided to leave. As we walked out, the hostess didn't even offer a "have a nice day" or any acknowledgment. It felt cold and dismissive. It's baffling that a breakfast spot would put more emphasis on alcoholic drinks than on basic breakfast staples. What kind of breakfast place doesn't let you make your own eggs? read more

We went to The Shanty on Sunday, their first day open! We had the yam fries with this addicting sauce. Then moved on to the burgers our server informed us that the burger was inspired by the "In and Out Burger." I have never had a better burger. For day one I was overly impressed by the staff. If I hadn't known I would have thought they had been at it for years. I did notice other reviews about charging for popcorn, I thought the same but after trying the popcorn and the server explaining that they used organic popcorn, Maine sea salt and Rhode Island butter and tasting.....I would pay $4 again and again for it!! I really love the Shanty. I first went a few years ago on Halloween and had a delicious "TV dinner." We didn't return until a month later, and the bartender remembered both of our names. You can't beat the atmosphere, the friendly bartenders and servers, and the changing seasonal menu that is a step up - - more like five steps - - from traditional pub food. You have to go early though because there's always a wait after 6 PM on almost any night we've been. It's that good! read more

Tried The Shanty for the first time tonight. We had the best waitres....Isabel! Can't say enough about her bubbly personality, even after she had been up since 5 that morning w/her 2 year old. I wish more wait people would have her personality. She makes you want to go back just to have her wait on you. She gives you a great dinning experience. The food was good as well. I can't believe this place used to be Wards! The renovations are amazing and the food is the best I've had out in a very long time. They were light, refreshing, and perfect for a warm evening. I ordered their take on a Hugo Spritz and really enjoyed it. My boyfriend chose the Limoncello Spritz. It wasn't quite my style, but it was still well made and delicious. For dinner, we both ordered the steak tips with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak tips were cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes were incredibly flavorful, and everything on the plate was delicious. It was one of those meals where you're tempted to lick the plate clean. Between the friendly service, gluten-free accommodations, and excellent food, this was an easy five-star experience. I had the avocado shakshuka, my husband had the lox omelet (see the photo). Despite the large menu of fancy coffee options, we each had a basic iced. It was served in a glass, which was a nice touch. Self serve milk was at a station in the dining room area. Coffee was good, cold but I would have traded some coffee for a bit more ice to stay that way as I drank it slowly. Both of us were surprised when our meals were delivered: the plates were beaut! In particular his omelet was absolutely gorgeous! Now for the flavors: the omelet had a generous helping of perfect cooked eggs (not sitting in a pile of grease, as restaurant omelets frequently are). It was so fluffy that we both thought "that's way more than the advertised 3 eggs," and the lox was thickly layered whole slices nestled inside the fold. Most places chop the lox like vegetables, add it to the eggs, & make it like a veggie omelet - meh. This iteration was perfect; the lox tasted like smoked salty fish, losing none of that flavor to the omelet itself. The potatoes? Fabulous! Great spice mix, cooked until they were crispy. That was a tasty bit of marble rye toast too. My shakshuka was very good, but a bit less successful. The elements were all excellent; the avocado was actually guacamole since it was mashed & there were tomatoes and spices in the dish. The combination worked, except for the bread element.
