So I had driven by here and saw them on news and we decided to try them. Now it was a little too pricey for my liking but it's good barbecue. We spent almost $80 and we shared. I prefer terry blacks for the price. But it's a nice clean place to go to. The beans were good. I don't like that we didn't get any bread w our brisket but not that too bad they did give us complimentary corn bread I think they do to every one. I felt safe all the police were setting there w me enjoying their barbecue too.

This is was my 3rd visit to Slow Bone. I was really impressed by their fried chicken sandwich. Perfectly fried on the perfect bun w the perfect sauces and fixins = will order again. Next time I'm gonna try another sandwich because this and the Texas Nail were incredible. Also recommend the Fluffer Nutter Banana Pudding dessert. Nom Nom Nom!

On the way back home from a brief 24 hours in Dallas, I decided to make a pit stop just south of Downtown Dallas to get stamp 25 on my Texas Monthly list by going to The Slow Bone. I walked in around 12:30 pm to no line and no wait, but a full menu. I had been pretty well fed over the past 24 hours by stopping at another barbecue joint the day prior and also having a 7.5 mile run planned for the evening, so I took it pretty easy. There are tons of options you would expect at most barbecue joints, plus fried chicken and a plethora of hot and cold sides. I opted for one of their biggest claims to fame with the Texas Nail sandwich and a side of their Sweet Potato Praline just to balance the two options. The tray was served down the line, and they told me they would bring my sandwich because it is more of a process than slicing brisket. I like chopped brisket on a sandwich, but sometimes places serve pre chopped brisket which is never as good as brisket chopped on the spot. I was glad to see Slow Bone do the latter. The sandwich gobsmacked me with flavor. Obviously the brisket is the star of the show, but the supporting cast really makes it special. The cheddar cheese is infused with Revolver Blood & Honey and it is topped with smoked mushrooms, caramelized onions, roasted green chiles, and a lime crema. It is served with a jalapeño barbecue sauce, but I put in so much work on the sandwich that I kind of forgot about the sauce. I said earlier that I was trying to be light knowing I had over 10k to run, but I ate that sucker with a fork because that's how huge it was. I think sweet potato sides are always a must try, and these were excellent as well. I liked the smooth sweetness balanced by the crunch of the nuts. I would definitely come back just to get the Texas Nail again because days later I still remember how the cheese and brisket hit my tongue. It really hit the nail on the head for Texas barbecue. I did not know how to end this review and this is the best I could come up with. I'm sorry. RIYL: A good barbecue sandwich

Slow bone, take it easy. Slow bone, take it easy. What a way to spend a rainy afternoon in Dallas, Texas then taking a slow ride to slow bone bbq. This review is solely based on the Texas Nail. This is the kind of nail they built America on. The kind of nails that laid the foundation of every railroad taking us to new places. The kind of nail you don't mind getting in your tires. Saying this was one of the best bbq sandwiches I've ever had wouldn't be doing it justice, it's just a great a sandwich period. Brisket, mushroom duxelle, green chilies, beer cheese, if your mouth isn't watering yet, you're probably very dehydrated and should see a doctor. I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

I was told slow bone is an institution and it certainly lives up to its status based on my experience. I came here for a UYE and got too much food as usual with these things. It's hard to not want to try as much as you can, especially when it's your first time at a place. Normally at a BBQ place, I'd do brisket and sides. Here they have some obscenely decadent sammys on the board and the texas nails was just calling out to me. "Faz!" it whispered like an echo ringing through a foggy ravine in the middle of a moonlit night. Or, if you're more into nerdy stuff like me, think that elven lady that kept calling out to Froodo in LoTR. (OK I lost some of my nerd cred because I don't remember What'sHerName's name, but you know her. Anyway, like a sailor enchanted by the siren's song I followed and I partook in the pleasures that lead to my ultimate doom. That was one hell of a food coma, let me tell you. The drive back to Frisco was tough but oh so worth it. The other stuff I ate/brought home was good but really that Texas Nails sandwich, it...hit the spot. See I didn't say nails it! ;)

Fatty brisket, beef rib. Mac, pea salad, Brussels gratin. All great!

I've been wanting to go to this place for years and finally made the trip. There was no line at noon on a Saturday. Walked straight to the cutter and placed our order. Opted for the beef rib which is only sold Saturday I believe. Fatty brisket was next plus some sides of macaroni and cheese, pea salad, and Brussels gratin. Everything was great. The meats were well rendered and seasoned perfectly. The sides were prepared nicely and didn't seem like after thoughts like at most bbq joints. I guess that's why they are a top 50. Also, the fried chicken was fresh and juicy. Really good! We will be back. It's rare to find a top 50 with no line.

This is a great experience. Not all five stars are created equal but I couldn't be difficult with the Slow Bone. My youngest son and I arrived around 2:00 on a Saturday. There was no line and we were able to order. We ordered 3/4 pound of brisket, 1/4 pound of sausage, a pork rib, side of tots (not pictured), side of Mac and cheese, and corn bread included. Food was excellent, everyone was really friendly. I had better BBQ in Dallas but not enough to ding them a star. If you are anywhere on the fringe of downtown Dallas, you are going to want to stop. Excellent quality and service. This is a quaint venue that you are going to want to visit.

The Slow Bone is a long-standing BBQ joint in Dallas that just recently made Texas Monthly's Top 50 BBQ joints in Texas. IMO - they didn't make the list for the barbecue; they made the list because of the amazing sides and other dishes like Fried Chicken and Frito Pie. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The Slow Bone can be found in Dallas on the edge of the Design District. A bold mural featuring a black bat against an orange background will lead you to the entrance. Inside it everything you would expect from a great BBQ joint: plenty of seating with a mixture of booths and tables, and an intoxicating aroma of smoke that will get your appetite ready for a great meal. On my Saturday visit at 11:30 AM, my group formed a short line. 1 Star. Service - The line moves quickly with a staff member ready to cut your meat (by the pound), someone to collect the amazing sides (details below), and then a staff member will check you out. Drinks are self-serve, and the staff will wander the dining area collecting plates, adding a personal touch. 1 Star. Food - If you want details on the brisket, you'll need to read another review (trust me it's great). But at The Slow Bone, it's Thanksgiving. Every. Day. Every visit of mine begins with Sweet Potato Praline. It's rich and buttery with a creamy texture that then gets a caramelized crunch from the pralines. If I didn't know any better, I would think this is a dessert. No, that would be the Cornbread pudding. The moist, buttery corn bread is topped with a crème brule like top. It's rich and indulgent, and the perfect ending after my Frito Pie. Remember ordering this at the high school football game on Fridays? Well The Slow Bones layers chili made from smoked brisket and covers it with queso and shredded cheese over a base of salty, crunchy Fritos. This is southern comfort food at its finest and will take you back in time. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's been too long in between my visits to The Slow Bone. Texas Monthly reminded me why I fell in love with this place. Now, I can't wait to return. 1 Star.

Great alternative to Terry Blacks. It's not as crowded and has just as good bbq. The brisket was so tender and they gave hush puppies on the side - bonus! The staff was friendly and they had tons of condiments to pick from. Check it out!!

Texas Nail, Fried chicken (thigh), greens and Horseradish Cream Potato Salad

Came here expecting the BBQ to be the highlight, but it was the fried chicken that stole the show. I was told that it chicken was an award winning one. Perfectly crispy, juicy, and seasoned just right. The sides were also spot on, each one flavorful and comforting in its own way. my favorite was the Creamy Wasabi Potato Salad. My main order was their special sandwich name Texas Nail It consisted of Goodstock Prime Brisket, smoked mushroom duxelle, caramelized onions, roasted green chiles, Revolver Blood & Honey melty cheddar, lime creama, & jalapeño bbq sauce on a toasted challah bun. It was savory and pretty heavy on the flavor. That melts cheddar was really really a little overpowering in my opinion. I originally came for the BBQ, but I'll be coming back for that fried chicken and the sides that round out the meal.

Recognized for top 50 BBQ restaurants in Texas, the Slow Bone lives up to this honor. It's great! And, unlike most BBQ places, they are as dedicated to making their sides and breads as delicious as their meats. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're stepping into a 1980s Austin BBQ place, and they brought me back to a great time. I used to love Austin's BBQ restaurants, and now I have Slow Bone. Decorated with great vintage items, and plenty of awards for their great BBQ. The service was outstanding! Everyone was attentive as I walked through the line ordering my food. And they were so patient as I asked questions about the sides. What a great experience.

Came here to pick up a quick meal to take to the airport and it was pretty good. They have a quick pick-up window and they close early so be sure to come before 3! The kitchen was open and clean! The inside looked like you order and they place the food on your tray before paying. Lots of things to look at too! I only ate the queso and shells and tomato cucumber salad. They were both very good. I preferred the salad though. My partner enjoyed his chopped brisket Sammy. He said, the brisket had a good blend of tenderness and a nice crust of smoky flavor. This place is vegetarian friendly and it seems like they have a vegetarian special coming on Wednesdays so keep an eye out. Not pet-friendly.

Finally made it after years of intending to. I met my grandson here who's on a work site nearby. We both love BBQ and this was a great place to try. Unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. I have mixed feelings on spending too much time on this review. My instincts tell me most people who love Q will think Slow Bone is average. That's what we walked away feeling, Meh. Over a decade ago they opened with much fanfare and eventually earned a spot on the Texas Monthly Top 50 in 2021. They've fallen a long way from there. You can tell a lot about a place from using your senses when you walk in the door. After struggling with the small parking area,I entered the front door, glanced up at the offerings, glanced around and thought,ok. Looks average Stepping up to place my order of the $22 chopped brisket sandwich, the meat cutter pulled a piece of brisket out of the warmers beside him . First bad sign. It's busy lunch time with a crowd and you aren't cutting meat off a fresh brisket on the board? At that point I knew what my experience was gonna be but, kept an open mind. The next stop along the cafeteria style line was the sides. I'm just gonna say it,they looked unappetizing so I passed. I ordered fries instead. My grandson opted for the Pit sandwich. At $13 it was basically a pile of trimming from all the meats they serve including brisket, sausage etc. He said it tasted funny. His side of mac-n-cheese at $5.50 was a little watery and average. Overall,I can't recommend Slow Bone. The owner appears to be worn out and unable to maintain quality at today's price points. He is definitely not competitive and at $22 for a sandwich it's a no go. To add insult to injury, while the cutter measured the weight( (1/2 lb) of my sandwich on the scale in front of me,he reached over and pinched a smidge off the pile. Really? That made a difference in your profit on a $22 sandwich. In closing, sometimes you can save an average BBQ meal with good sauce. Not here. Sauce was...I'm not sure how to describe it. No thanks

Ask the Community - The Slow Bone

Is it true they don't offer the 1/2/3meat combo plate and it's all ala carte?

Sooooo true, unfortunately. I believe that it is a little more expensive now. If there food wasn't so good, I'd stop going.

Has anyone taken the fried chicken to-go? I am curious if it will still taste as good as people say if I take it home with me to eat

Yeap, still crispy and tasty after re-heating.

Only thing I would say is the buns could be higher quality, they didn't match the level of the meat. Corn was great. Sides were great. Sauces were great. Service was very quick. Texas barbecue is so dear to my heart I'm feeling an extensive review coming on. Let me finish this paragraph by mentioning a significant historical fact regarding bbq just a few blocks from here. " The" king of Dallas barbeque started not far from here. In 1935 Red Bryan started a BBQ business and became a legend. Passing the torch to his son Sonny Bryan who solidified the elevated smoking of brisket in Dallas. That era has passed and now.... We have a new movement. With the price of beef, personnel retention, operating expenses,it's gotta be one of the hardest operations in food service. But,Red,Sonny and others did it and the bar is raised for anyone else who expects you to patronize their establishment and pay today's prices. I was very disappointed in the brisket here. I should have taken it back but, wasn't in the mood. While the owners may be connected to Lockhart Texas BBQ royalty, you can't rest on your laurels. Let's give them some time to tweek the operation before we try again. At this time it's a no go.

Following the recommendations of many Yelpers, we also ordered two of the brisket tostadas and two of the birria tacos. When we received our plate of meat, I was a bit surprised at how little of each meat there was on the plate, but in hindsight, this ended up being the perfect amount of food, where everyone was able to get a sample of everything. Of the items we ordered, my favorite was definitely the burnt ends. These were melt in your mouth tender, and was insanely rich and decadent. Each of the three pieces in our order had a beautiful bark on the outside that resulted in a satisfying crunch with every bite. The casing to the sausage was snappy and the sausage itself was very juicy. The brisket was fall apart tender. The brisket was a bit light on seasoning, so I ended up using the Aztec Gold BBQ sauce they had sitting at the table with it. The sides that we chose were both delicious. The pasta in the mac n cheese was cooked perfectly and the noodles was generously sauced. The elote was sweet and smokey, and the Cotija cheese added creaminess to the side. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Hurtado Barbecue and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit if you're in Texas and are looking for great tasting BBQ.

Even though the playground is usually his favorite spot, he didn't hesitate & insisted we go to Kafi for the brisket. That pretty much sums up how my family feels about this place. We've tried plenty of BBQ spots around Texas, but Kafi keeps bringing us back. The brisket is consistently excellent, and you can tell they use the highest-quality ingredients because the flavor really speaks for itself. Everything on the menu is done well, from the Wagyu and sausage to the burnt ends. It's become one of those rare places that the whole family gets excited about, and that's not something I can say about many restaurants

I follow the chef/owner on Instagram (@kafibbq), and the amount of effort and detail he puts into his craft has resulted in multiple return visits for me. This review is for my latest visit. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Kafi BBQ can be found in a shopping strip in Irving-Valley Ranch. Only opened Friday - Sunday, on my most recent Sunday visit around dinner time, Kafi was packed. The patrons were a great mix of families, BBQ lovers, and those looking for high quality Halal meats. Smoke was in the air. 1 Star. Service - The staff is super friendly and nice. Pro Tip - Go for lunch or before 6 before items are sold out. A few items were sold out on my most recent visit (my fault I arrived at 6:45) and the staff weren't aware of what was available, leading to some confusion, but they were so nice it didn't impact my meal. 1 Star. Food - By now, you've probably read or heard about Kafi's Wagyu Brisket. For me, I love following @kafibbq on Instagram so I can see what Salahodeen is cooking up. On this visit, it was the Brisket Sandwich. First off, the house baked bread roll is soft, but firm enough to hold Kafi's famous brisket on a pile of home made cole slaw and pickles. The result was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've eaten. The bite was soft, smokey, crunchy, and tart (from the pickles). It was a special, and I'm not sure if Kafi will keep this on the menu, but I hope they do. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's pricey, but it's worth it. While the brisket is great, I suggest you follow them on Instagram to see what's cooking and plan your visit around the specialty items. 1 Star.

Its rare to find a bbq joint that has delicious sides AND delish meats. Yummmmmm When you order sliced brisket they ask if you want moist (with fat) or lean. The poblano sausage (beef) is so good. Try their HG brisket quesadillas!!!! Brisket heavy and excellent for the price. I love all their sides. My fave is the bacon ranch potato salad. Their mac n cheese is really good but not my go to. Their corn mixed with the mac n cheese or potato salad is yummers too Listen, just do yourself a favor and "treat yo self" to Hurtado's. Dont walk, RUN out the door to get there

Staff was very friendly and helpful with ordering. The spectacular: Service, cleanliness of the restaurant, staff floating to check on you, prices were on par with other places. The brisket was definitely the star of the show for me. The good: The turkey was very tasty and juicy. I could have used more smoke flavoring but that is just a preference and not a knock on it. My girl loved it. The queso was really good as well. The ok: Mac and cheese was kind of just there. Didn't love but didn't hate it either. The miss: Was not offered bread, onions, pickles or jalapeños. Had to ask for all three and then only received two pieces of bread and a tiny helping of pickles and onions but zero jalapeños. The chicken was very sticky with the sauce used and the inside looked red and almost raw. We didn't finish it. I'd go back, but would be very focused on the brisket and maybe the puerco and/or sausage. Gives me a future Rudy's vibe but that's not hating on it at all. Just a chain that will be consistent.
