The mission of the restaurant states, "Classic American food with unique California flavors in the heart of historic Jamestown." We're talking about The Smoke Cafe, a classic, "old school" diner located in the Mother Lode town of Jamestown, CA. Do you like the color "green?" The walls and partitions of the entire restaurant are painted green, with white trim, which, in my opinion, makes for an attractive decor. The dining room is interesting as it's actually two levels, with the second level being about three steps higher than the lower level. The lower level furniture is all booths, while the upper level features a combination of booths and tables. The walls are decorated with framed photos, taken by local photographers, and each photo is for sale. The kitchen is located at the extreme rear of the restaurant. Besides for-sale photographs, there is a television monitor, tuned to country music videos. I found the song, "It's Five O'clock Somewhere" to be quite appropriate on this early Tuesday morning. The breakfast menu at The Smoke Cafe features all of your breakfast "comfort food" and everything a breakfast lover could desire. The Smoke Cafe is serious about breakfast, and breakfast - or lunch - is offered any time the restaurant is open. You can order from the breakfast or lunch menu, as anything listed on the menu is available anytime the restaurant is open. Of course I was tempted to order a cheeseburger, but I went with breakfast... From the "Breakfast - Served All Day" section of the menu, I went for, "Hand-breaded country fried steak with country gravy and eggs." My side of choice was in-house-made beans, my eggs fried over easy, and sourdough toast. The side choice is vast, as hash browns, home fries, biscuit, pancake fresh fruit or beans can be ordered... how could I ever resist in-house-made refried beans as my side of choice? The "star" of this "old school" breakfast was the hand-breaded country fried steak, which was, indeed... seasoned, hand-breaded and pounded tender, into shape. Naturally it was deep fried to a darker, crispy brown, and covered with LOTS of thick, delicious country gravy. I'd like to add the gravy was thick, rich, flavorful and had LARGE chunks of sausage... the chunks of sausage actually stuck out of the gravy! Folks, that's "chunky" gravy, certainly! The two eggs were perfectly fried, over easy, as I ordered, which shows the chef has talent, as it isn't easy to deliver a perfectly fried egg, over easy. Cassidy pointed out to me the refried beans are made in-house daily, and one taste of the delicious beans made a believer out of me, as cans simply don't happen at The Smoke Cafe. The beans were rich, creamy, smooth and seasoned, with just a hint of... dare I say? ... lard? Or was I simply imagining? The beans were simply delicious, and as much as I adore hash browns, good, in-house-made refried beans are always a welcome diversion from hash browns. The beans were simply delicious, and reminded me of refried beans that I've enjoyed during the many trips I've taken to Baja California, Mexico. The chef at The Smoke Cafe must have paid a visit to Magna's, as their refried beans taste deliciously similar. The sourdough toast was perfectly toasted, buttered with real butter, and was simply delicious. I used a piece to mop up every bit of gravy from my plate, which must have made the staff happy, as my plate was "finger-lickin' clean." The Smoke Cafe's combination of an amazing country fried steak, topped with chunky sausage gravy, refried beans and perfectly fried eggs makes for a breakfast that would bring a smile to a Tuolumne County "foodie," or anybody who loves a diner-style breakfast that tastes like mom's home cookin'. In a single word... DELICIOUS! When you dine at The Smoke Cafe, you'll enjoy delicious, classic, "Americana" diner cuisine, served by friendly staff, in the heart of historic Jamestown. We were passing through and needed some sandwiches for our lunch on the lake today...first off...their bathroom was clean! We ordered the BLT, blackened chicken and tuna melt! Cute diner in quiet Jamestown! On July 4th weekend it was one of two options for breakfast/brunch and they handled the crowds well! I stopped in with a friend on our way home from Sonora and we both left satisfied. The food and coffee are a step above cliche diner expectations but nothing too fancy or overpriced. I had the cinnamon apple French toast combo (French toast with eggs and bacon) and my friend enjoyed the eggplant sandwich. What a great find for breakfast in Jamestown! Hubby had the amazing Huevos Divorciados (Divorced Eggs). They were so flavorful he didn't even need extra hot sauce. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and gravy. The biscuits were SO soft and fluffy and wonderful with the gravy. We also shared a special of Tutti-Fruitii Crepes with vanilla custard, mango, kiwi, and strawberries . The staff was very nice too. read more

Came here because it's the only place (that I read online) that was dog friendly in Jamestown. My bf really enjoyed his cheeseburger. The hashbrowns were my favorite thing that I ate unfortunately. I didn't care for the red or green sauce that they use for the divorced eggs and my tortilla at the bottom seemed stale (they should have just fried it and made a tostada instead). As for the special pancakes, I loved that the peaches were fresh and not canned! The pancakes themselves were basic but I still ate them as the cream cheese filling made it better tasting. Let me tell you, this is hands down my favorite breakfast spot ever! Ill update my review the more i go in but the food is to die for. Theres a lovley variety of choices and the menu is served all day so nothing is stopping me from having a burger for breakfast! My fiances go-to is the french toast while mine is the wild west omlet, hardly ever do we both take home left overs. My favorite server would be Darrio, he is a sweet man and made our morning better with his kind and fast service. It feels like home walking in there, its warm, smells good and there is always soft music in the background. I look forward to walking into this cafe again and will always do my best to bring people in with me. read more

Well balanced, with fresh lettuce, onion, tomato slices, just enough sauce, chicken breast not too thick or over breaded, all between soft brioche buns. And a side salad that was as fresh as they come. Turns out, they're famous for this sandwich, according to our kind server. I'm eager to try their burgers, Chilaquiles, in fact, their whole menu! Next time I'm just going to ask the server what else is famous. I'm not a Jamestown local, just passing through on my way to/from Twain Harte. Come here for a great breakfast! Everything is made fresh. I had the country fried steak and it was excellent. The breaded exterior was crispy but not greasy. The meat was tender and almost melted in my mouth. We also got an order of pancakes, which was not doughy or heavy. I'm a connoisseur of pancakes and these were really delicious. Me and my partner were from out of town and came here on a whim and are so glad we did. I got the brunch burger and was shocked by how high of the quality of the beef tasted.
