I love a good steak restaurant and I really wanted to like The Steakhouse but my experience wasn't the best . We came around 8ish with reservations with the hubby and my two cousins. There was bread and butter offered and was ok, bread could have had a bit more flavor but the butter helped. I ordered a Cabernet Sav and it was a really good glass of wine. For my entree I ordered the New York strip ( with bearnaise sauce), mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon since they didn't have rib eye available which was my first choice. I ordered it medium well but it was prepared medium rare and it was really red which I just can't eat. The staff was accommodating in replacing it with a steak prepped medium well, but I was so hungry by this point. They only offered a salad lol( which I didn't take but probably should have thinking back now). When my steak was brought back it was made the way I wanted and it was delicious. Overall the experience was just ok, but the food tasted great. However , I don't think I'll be back since it is such a pricey restaurant. read more

The reservation I made 2 weeks in advance was abruptly cancelled by the restaurant without explanation. When I called to inquire why the reservation had be cancelled, the person answering the phone hung up. I called back only to have the call go to voicemail. Oh my gosh!!! What happened! This restaurant was recommended by friends. Our prime rib was literally served raw. (And we ordered medium rare). The potato was like warm at best and had the texture of a day old baked potato. The service was extremely slow. Took over an hour for our meal to arrive. We never saw our waiter again. We were presented with our $120 bill. Seriously! A prime rib and a baked potato. Very disappointed in our first dinner here. The manager offered several excuses for the poor meal and service. Our family made a reservation two months in advance for a 90th birthday party, but arrived to find the room had been given away -- no notice, just a "management decision." We were moved upstairs to a dull banquet room, which was hard to access for our elderly guests. The food came out lukewarm and at different times. Our server did her best, but was clearly unsupported. When we called the manager later, he first denied the reservation, then blamed "untrained staff." Server brought us our first drink, took our order and disappeared after that. Later on random servers came out to our table. Finally our food came after waiting, my Aged Ribeye tasted burnt, my wife's prime rib had no flavor. I definitely don't recommend this place. The bar and table service was good. The host was terrible we asked for a booth she said booths were for parts of four. All booths were empty when we were sat. Sorry, but the omelet could have been better, and the hash browns were the worst ever (had to use a knife, but even then, I lost the fight). The toast was very nice though (hard to mess up toast). They need to check on the cook. My friends fought with the air conditioner in their room all night, which left them with little sleep for their drive back to L.A. This venerable restaurant is elegant and excellent! Our group ordered the Prime Rib dinner, which was huge portions. The Short Rib was also greatly appreciated by one. My sister and I ordered the filet mignon, medium, they were completely raw, not even rare, just not cooked, no offer to refire, no comp, just 50 dollar inedible food. My aunt ordered the scallops, we could smell them before they were set on the table, again inedible. The next morning we went back for breakfast, surely they can't mess up eggs. Worst two meals I've ever had in the 40 years of coming to Paso Robles. We stayed at the Paso Robles Inn and ate at this steakhouse. It was freezing and we were told we had to be seated outside despite empty tables inside. We had to ask five times to turn on a heater. They never bought us bread and butter. The ribeye steak was 50% fat and was equivalent to what I would expect from Sizzler. Overall, don't come here if you are expecting quality food. For our last day in the area, my coworker and I wanted to get food from a nice steakhouse. After perusing the available options, I settled on this place. But, I must say, settling doesn't apply for The Steakhouse. Sure, there were other places that had slightly higher ratings but also higher prices. I wanted a good steakhouse meal without breaking the bank. The place was not busy for a Thursday night. We were quickly greeted by the hostess and got a nice booth. Because of COVID protocols, we were told to scan the QR code to get the menu. Water and bread were provided to us in quick order and after perusing the menu, we were ready to order. I ordered a half order of the Brussels sprouts (it was awesome that we could order a half order because it was a large portion still) and the 16 ounce prime rib, medium rare, with a side of asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. You get 2 sides with the steak entrees. My coworker ordered the mushroom Wellington cups and a 14 ounce ribeye. The Brussels sprouts, definitely to die for. Most places include bacon in the preparation where it would be the star. Here, nothing like that. The Brussels sprouts is the star along with the sauce. Perfect preparation. The mushroom Wellington cups were good. An order has 2 of the cups on the plate. My coworker's ribeye was cooked to perfection as he ordered it. He said that it was tasty and had no complaints. My prime rib was perfect. Cooked to the right temperature, nice crust around the outside, and it was complemented with a serving of au just and creamy horseradish. The horseradish was definitely something else. All-in-all, my prime rib was a taste explosion! I would definitely come back here if my travels brings me back down to the area. If I had any complaint, it would be that the dining room was a bit dimly lit, but, if that's the only complaint from me, and the food was yummy. Who cares about the lighting, right? read more

We were visiting Paso Robles a couple of weeks ago and chose The Steakhouse as one of our dinner spots. Nice place, good service, but the woefully undercooked a fish, didn't do much better with my steak, and were pretty off with my wife's burger, also. The fish went back to the kitchen and my wife and I just ate our meals as served because we were starving. When the fish came back out, the waitress assured my BIL that the chef had 'temped' it that time - meaning he stuck a thermometer in it. So why didn't they just do that with both orders to serve them correctly in the first place? Lazy or stupid.... They definitely weren't going for - do it right the first time and offer a pleasant experience. read more

We had such a great experience here. We were sat at a table by the fireplace, which made it such a cute date night. My husband ordered the Filet Mignon with Chimichurri sauce and I got the Filet Oscar with Bearnaise sauce. Had a bottle of the Steakhouse Cab which went perfectly with our dinners. Yes, The Steakhouse lives up to its name... barely. When I visit a restaurant called "The Steakhouse," I would expect an elegant experience with fine food and wine, and a high level of service. What we found was more akin to a dressed-up Black Angus. The atmosphere was alright - a bit dated for a wine country dining experience. A large fireplace dominates one end of the spacious dining room. We were seated along the side of the dining room, near the front windows. The majority of the dining room is well-lit, but the lightning where we sat was virtually non-existent (I think they were going for intimate, and missed the mark low). The hostess who seated us had to bring us a battery-powered table lamp for us to be able to read our menu, which died within five minutes. The food was passable, and the staffed seemed rushed and overworked. It seemed to take longer than I would have expected to be greeted by our server after we were seated, and again, she seemed a bit frantic. To start, we ordered the crab cakes, which arrived burnt, to the point that our server offered, without us having to ask, to take them off our bill. For our mains, my wife ordered a filet, and I had the prime rib. Her filet was cooked well, but I asked for a medium rare and I received rare. I don't mind a rarer steak, so I didn't make a fuss, but I expect to be served what I asked for. I could sense the effort was there. The staff, the ambiance, the food... they're trying to live up to the restaurant's name. We had a group of 6 so they charged an automatic 20% gratuity, which I normally would pay anyway and the service was okay, but it's worth noting. We ordered the halibut, it was overcooked/ dry and the side with it were not a good compliment. Another person ordered the lasagna; it was not good either, overcooked and hard to cut into bites. The coconut shrimp was served with a hot & spicy dipping sauce to die for. Our main course was a variety of fish & chips, steak & fries, wedged steak salad, and chicken sandwich & fries. What's worse than waiting fifteen minutes for someone to take your check and run your credit card? A lousy end to a mediocre meal. (And I believe I'm being nice by saying it was mediocre.) In a premature post script, I'll say my fork was sticky and I waited long enough for it to have it replaced that I was eating asparagus with my fingers. Calamari that I have to believe arrives at the restaurant frozen, already breaded, and in a plastic bag. Steak that -- while cooked fine -- was just so so. An odd smokey taste, and not super high quality. (And sauces -- ugh -- that were not adding anything, not that sauces are my thing for a filet.) I come to paso a lot. The food in this town is ridiculously good. Perhaps if this was in some sleepy New Mexico town with a population of 5000, I would have a bit more grace to offer. But.... This is paso. We have gone so the Steakhouse and enjoyed the food many times in the last five years but WOW to what we experienced last week. These rolls came out and tasted like two day old rolls, we almost complained. (We are definitely not ones to complain) As an appetizer, we usually have the Brussels sprouts but thought we would try Artichoke Spinach dip with chips. Did they use a fresh artichoke? No way. It had some awful aftertaste and the chips were day old oil tasting. (No exageration) the dip had no taste at all, in hindsight site might be a blessing. So we thought let's order the coconut shrimp since the rest of the appetizers were a bust, they came out on a small bread plate, oily and tasted like coconut oil not shrimp at all. Don had ribs and it was ok but greasy. I had a side bowl of crab for $10 and it tasted like it was dumped out of water slightly heated up. Tasteless. Not plated just sent out in a small bowl. I give this meal a one because the waiter was nice. I should have taken pictures but we were so disappointed to the tune of $100. (We only drank one coffee and lemon water. Go figure! I read more

Had a great anniversary dinner at The Steakhouse. Not sure why the reviews were so low, but I am giving the restaurant five stars. It met all expectations and checked every box for us. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Our server Alize was pleasant, shared stories, and her experience working at the restaurant. We started off our dinner with a loaf of warm French bread and butter (super yum). I ordered the grilled salmon with risotto and was really filling. The hubby ordered rotisserie chicken and garlic mashed potatoes and enjoyed his dish as well. My husband and I both ordered prime rib. It was tough, lacked flavor, and lukewarm. My husband's baked potato was also lukewarm and undercooked. The brussels sprouts for appetizer were delicious. A number of entrées on the menu were not available. Once we had our food, our waitress never once came back to check on us nor did she bother to refill our water. It was very obvious that my prime rib was hardly touched, so it's surprising that nobody checked in with us. Finally, the manager came by and asked about my dinner, and we told him that the meat was tough, had little flavor, and arrived lukewarm. He apologized and said he would make things right. The result was that we were not charged for my meal, which we appreciated. I really wanted to like my dinner here because I like the Paso Robles Inn. We have had good meals there before, but I doubt we will return. read more

Because I loved the menu they had before. And I was sad that I could not order the steakhouse menu from downstairs that I used to be able to order before. As a single person, I prefer to eat my meal from the bar, rather than from the restaurant. Plus, I just love watching Nate work. He is so personable and nice. I understand that you have changes coming. But I hope you will ask the locals what we want instead. Change is good. Redirected our plans here as Hemingway's was closed, and boy do we regret it. Had a 7PM reservation and arrived about 15 min early, to which the hostess advised they were running behind but would get us to our table at our reservation...didn't bother checking us in. 45 minutes later after I checked back and they seemed to forget we were sitting on the lobby still directly across from them. On to the meal, a nice enough man working there advised he was giving us a round on the house for the wait, which seemed nice. We ordered our meal, I got the ribeye medium rare, with no sauce on it. Food arrived about half an hour later (we'd been forgotten again) and was awful. Steak was over cooked and bland, apparently they cover up their poor quality of meat with sauce to provide flavor. End of the day, don't bother eating here. Food is pricy and bland, service is terrible, and they don't seem to care enough to fix any of that. read more
