The Strawberry Shack had so many good treats to choose from that it was hard to decide which one to try. The employee greeted us as we entered, and he was very friendly and welcoming. We did get to chitchatting and he did tell us that his store was haunted as weird things would happen. The open sign would switch over to closed on its own and he would hear strange noises in the back when he was at the register and counter. After trying their other location, I knew I had to give this one a shot too -- and it definitely didn't disappoint! I went with the strawberry soft serve, and it was absolutely amazing -- creamy, refreshing, and packed with flavor. I also noticed this location has a bigger menu, offering chocolate-covered cherries, pretzels, shakes, and more, which makes it even harder to choose just one thing. Inside, the shop is filled with cute strawberry-themed trinkets that keep the vibe fun and on theme. Came across the Strawberry Shack's second location just as they were opening for their second day of business! The owner was so friendly and welcoming we stepped right in. They offer a variety of strawberry desserts and a few non-strawberry options as well. We tried the strawberry and chocolate custard swirl, strawberry dole whip and pineapple dole whip, as well as dark chocolate covered orange peel, and chocolate covered strawberries. All were yummy! My daughter's favorite was the dole whip and mine was the big Belgian chocolate covered strawberry. They also have brownies with homemade strawberry buttercream frosting, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry key lime pie, strawberry tiramisu, and more. Walking in this was the cutest little place! I originally went thinking I'd find something to refreshing to drink- I did not. What I did find was a ton of wonderful sounding treats. After a few minutes I decided on the strawberry rock candy and strawberry cheesecake. This cheesecake was amazing! Not too heavy, just perfect. First & foremost: Happy the owner (Russ) has chosen O'side to open his second location, but this time with indoor seating. Now my husband and children have been to his Carlsbad location, but I had never tried anything from the strawberry shack up until our anniversary, which happens to fall on Valentines. As a low-key person who doesn't need all the frills, all I wanted to do was to try the strawberry shack but without our littles. I'd like to say we arrived at a perfect hour as we places our order, got the tour of all the decor, and a good sit-down conversation with Russ to include how his business came to be. Soo yummy, like the best shake, custard, and sundaes. But sadly the service at this location is meh. Just one guy there and apparently they don't open until 2pm, ugh. He told us through the screen door. In a hurry but since close to the time we decided to wait outside a few more minutes. Like after 2:05 we were asking through screen if open and he mumbled something like "cleaning" then hurried out to the back room. We got ghosted! This was my first time visiting the strawberry shack. I have been wanting to try it since it was in Carlsbad and now that they have an Oceanside location I couldn't resist. I ended up getting the strawberry cheesecake, the worker added strawberries and whipped cream to the top. It was very rich and cream, I loved it. I went one a Saturday evening. There wasn't a line but there were people filling all of the indoor seating. It felt crowded to me and I took mine to go as there wasn't really anywhere for me to eat it in the shop. The menu was a bit confusing. I think the menu words needed to be slightly larger and not with a distracting background. I was a little confused about what was available. I stuck to what was in the cases as that was what I could see. I was browsing and the worker kept trying to sell me on the cannoli. He told me about is a few times and then brought it out of the case to show me. I'm not a fan of cannolis but maybe they are good here. This is a crowded area of town but there is street parking and a small parking lot across the street and next to the building. (I'm not sure if they are business specific so check the signs) I was able to get. Spot right out front as someone was leaving. read more

All of the items seem like they are purchased pre-made from someplace else, and then heaped with a pile of limp, sad looking strawberries that are anything but fresh. Its not an artisan confectioner, so much as it is an "assembled here" street fair booth quality vendor, that happens to be near prime coastal real estate. Even the chocolate covered strawberries seemed to be identical to the mass produced versions found at your local Albertson's or Vons grocery store. This makes the upscale prices totally outrageous. I've been to the original location many times and absolutely love it there, however, I don't know how I feel about this one. Not sure if it was just an off day or it was the person manning it, but it just wasn't great. I ordered the strawberry shortcake and it was drenched in the syrup from the strawberries. The cake was pretty much swimming in it and it was mushy and sickeningly sweet. The "fresh made" whipped cream came from a can. I couldn't finish it and I usually devour their strawberry shortcakes. I just ate the strawberries so it wouldn't feel like a complete waste. My husband ordered a strawberry shake and, I kid you not, the worker pulled out an old used blender from the fridge that still had left over shake from a previous order and proceeded to add ingredients and blend his shake. Who knows how long that's been there? That's pretty disgusting as those should be cleaned after each use and use a clean blender for every order. I gave 2 stars since my kids at least enjoyed the chocolate covered strawberries. I think next time I'll just go to the original location. read more
