I love everything about this place!!!! 1) The mission is such a happy, generous, and perfectly humanitarian one: pay what you can and/or pay it forward! The staff are volunteers and any "tips" are used to pay for someone else who cannot afford to pay. There is no judgement, just joy here! 2) It is absolutely lovely inside! Comfortable, clean, classy, and the "vibe" is extremely happy. 3) The best for last, I suppose......THE FOOD!!!! The food is locally grown/produced and the recipes are delicious! I've not had food this amazing in a very long while. I had the chicken sandwich with bacon jam and a small portion of the peach salsa salad. My tummy has never been happier!!! Listening to the other patrons, it seemed that they, too, shared my opinion! I suppose the only "negative" (if there was one) would be that it is a lunch place.......only open M-F, 11:00-3:00. I was really bumped to see this place fall short. An up and coming area, super friendly people and wonderful reviews set it up for a great lunch. My lunch took 35 minutes to come out. The explanation I was given was that a large party put their order in right before me. Normally I would understand this but the rest of the space wasn't all that busy. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Parmesan fries and a side of ranch. Ranch dressing was fabulous with the fries. Pulled pork was lacking and completely dried out. To top it off they don't accept Amex- not a huge deal but i come to LouIsville for work and just makes a bit of extra work on my end. Humphh. What a pleasant experience. Fresh food done right served by volunteers that act like professionals. My husband and I shared the strawberry and asparagus salad with manchego cheese and country ham. It was delicious and fresh. I had the smoked chicken sandwich with bacon jam. It was smokey bacony deliciousness. My husband had the smoked pork sandwich with house chips. It was porky goodness. We also shared the fresh cut Parmesan fries. They were crispy and cheesy. It was my husbands birthday so we indulged in a piece of the orange creme cake. I heard about The Table from a friend that has volunteered there several times. I visited with a couple friends. The service was excellent and very friendly. I had the meatloaf sandwich and pinto beans. The sandwich was great and the beans were loaded with ham. I should have got some beans to go. I ordered (online) the highly touted smoked chicken sandwich, and paired it with the Herbed white bean & veggie soup. The sandwich's saving grace is its famous bacon jam which is generously spread on the top bun, but still the sandwich is dry. It's advertised as being dressed with ranch, red onion, and kale. Definitely got the kale and a sliver of red onion, but no ranch was evident. Had all of the additions been adequately present, the sandwich could have been outstanding. The soup was very good. Pick-up service was flawless, basically waiting at the door for my arrival. I would return to try some other menu items that look very tempting (meatloaf sandwich, French onion grilled cheese). read more

The Table is one of my favorite places to go to for lunch during the week. I read all about it because I love non profits and the reviews were fantastic. The location is alittle out of the ordinary and you would probably pass it right by if you didn't know it was there but its a neat little spot with great decor. They have a very small menu but its farm to table and you can taste the freshness in every bite. I get their smoked chicken sandwich which has a big burst of flavor and has all of the right ingredients that marry beautifully, including yummy bacon jam. The service is always astounding and they are very welcoming. Its also affordable for the quality of food you getting. If you ever get the chance to try this little gem out, please do! I visited The Table today with a group of 3 total. They only had a two top open when they got there, but they were able to downsize another table to get us served more quickly. The staff was very friendly and made sure we found a spot to eat at! We waited around 10 minutes for a table. We ordered immediately at it was around another 10 minutes before our food came out. I had a smoked chicken sandwich and it was seriously delicious. I also got the Parmesan fries and salted caramel cake. Great food, great service, great mission! I had the veggie "cheesesteak" with a side of sweet potato fries. The sandwich was just the right size and not overloaded with cheese or sauce, and the sweet potato fries were incredible. It wasn't pre-packaged frozen fries that were dropped in a fryer--it was an actual sweet potato cut up and seasoned. So good. Plus, I love how they are situated in the Portland neighborhood, a place in desperate need of better food options. In an attempt to be healthier, I ordered one of each of their salads, very inexpensive at $5 each. First was the Spring Root Veggie Salad, which was my least favorite. The beets and root veggies had a nice taste but I wasn't a fan of the vinaigrette. Next was the Warm Acorn Squash salad. My first time eating Acorn Squash, and it was very tasty. The dressing on the salad was nice as well. Too bad they don't have this salad on the menu currently (05/30/2016) but may be added again seasonally. The last salad was the House salad which was very straight forward as house salads come. This place is definitely a must try for anytime you're in downtown Louisville, as it is a short drive. I can't wait to try it again as the menu has new offerings based on seasonal options. read more

The sliders were terrific and the chili had a great flavor. The only thing I didn't care for was the amount of beans in the chili--too heavy on the beans for my preference, but tasty nonetheless. Don't miss the sweet potato fries! These are not your typical restaurant variety, open-the-bag-and-dump-them-in-the-fryer sweet potato fries. These babies were hand-cut, homemade fries that you will not regret ordering. And the sauce that comes with them is oh so yummy--some kind of mustard, bbq concoction that is perfection! My only disappointment is this place isn't closer to home. You better believe the next time I'm in the Louisville area I'll be back for more. We drove into Louisville to visit family and decided to try The Table based upon the Yelp reviews. Waze got us there because we would never have found it on our own. Wonderful place and really great food! I had a small salad w/roasted root veggies and a cup of black bean pulled pork chili. The salad had interesting fresh lettuces (not just iceberg & romaine) and the roasted veggies added a little pop to it. The soup was thick and a nice level of spicy heat. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and the parmesan fries, and he was pleased with both. The staff are all volunteers and really much better than those at other restaurants. Loooooooved the Table ! I kept hearing so many great things about this new restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the most friendly greater she was so excited to see us which made us feel so welcome. We went at lunchtime and the wait was about 15 minutes. The servers are all volunteers but super knowledgeable. I honestly could not tell they were not employees. I love the cozy feel of the restaurant. The decor was simple and classy. I ordered the most amazing grilled cheese sandwich that had since Apple slices inside of it all I can say is delicious. Because the prices were so affordable I had to sample a few more things. So I ordered the side potato fries that were amazing especially with the dipping sauce. I also ordered the potato soup it was good however it did lack some flavor and needed salt. The service was efficient and quick especially for lunchtime hour even with a 15 minute wait. I truly love the concept of paying it forward and for those who cannot afford to pay they can still eat.
