Brunch on a grey and drizzly Sunday. The Templeton had room at the bar and I hadn't been in years. The man-friend had always wanted to try it, so in we went. I went for a caesar and some mac and cheese. The caesar was tasty, but the chunks of seasoning salt they put in the glass were too large and salty, and I kept crunching down on them while having my drink. I would have preferred a ground seasoning. Mac and cheese was okay. Not the best ever, but it was good. Nice flavour, though could have been creamier throughout. The salad that came with was actually pretty nice. Service was rather indifferent. Fairly pleasant, but not very attentive. My man-friend's coke wasn't even filled to the top of the glass, and since it was fountain soda, you think they could have topped it up. He was done the glass in about 3 sips, since the rest was all ice. Re-fills are extra, but thankfully they only cost 50 cents. The atmosphere is fun, and the cartoons on the projector screen during brunch takes one back to childhood, eating in front of the tv... if i'd been allowed to do that. The milkshakes look kick ass, and I would have had one if I knew my stomach could have handled it. I avoided the bathroom simply because I despise walking through kitchens to go take a leak. Came here on a Friday night and it was jamming. It's got a 50s diner feel but the food is very hippie dippie. My ladyfriend ordered a dish she thought was gluten-free when in fact it wasn't. When the waitress mentioned this she was kind enough to get her something else. I got a veggie burger with a seriously delicious chocolate milkshake. This is a tiny diner with a lot of heart. I came here on New Years day and there wasn't a lot open in the area so the line was pretty long. Still, the staff was fast and handled the pressure like a pro. I went in with a craving for greasy comfort food and that's exactly what I got. Its eclectic, grungy vibe, reminded me of Seattle and made me feel right at home. A bottomless cup of strong coffee and a plateful of the "Trucker's Breakfast" gave me the strength for a day out in the city. Another case of rating inflation. The food is okay, though not exceptional. The location is in a seedy area, next to a XXX adult novelties shop--a bit awkward deflecting my 3 year-old daughter's questions on what those things are in the window. The service was slow (one woman in the kitchen doing all the cooking) but the waitress very friendly and pleasant. This place seems to be the beneficiary of the outrageous wait and lines at the Twisted Fork on weekends, and a complete lack of places to eat in this section of the city. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on Saturday while visiting Vancouver, we were told that there was going to be about an hour wait so we walked around and got some coffee and then came back and it was still about 30 minutes to wait. We came here because yelpers had reviewed it as a decent vegetarian/Vegan option I ordered the tofu scramble and my boyfriend ordered the portobello mushroom burger they were both incredibly underwhelming my scramble tasted more like a bland curry, and the burger was the best part but definitely not worth 30 minute wait to be seated and a 30 minute wait for the food we were so disappointed although I could tell the staff was doing the best they could to keep the food rolling out. I just wish the food tasted better and the wait wasn't as long. read more

Even though the waiting can be scary because this diner is very small, it's totally worth it -- this is the best diner in Vancouver. I'm a big fan of breakfast food and I've been to a lot of diners here, but none of them compare to Templeton. The menu is reasonably priced, the portions are huge and the food is delicious. Everything you expect from a comfort food breakfast is here, from the root beer float to the eggs to the blueberry pancakes, the sausage, the bacon, and even the burgers if you're in the mood for lunch. Highly recommended! To avoid lines, arrive right when it opens (9 AM) or around 2 PM. I believe they serve brunch every day until 3 PM. read more

We ordered the New Denver Omelette and Big Ass Breakfast. Both plates were really good except that the pancakes that came with the Big Ass Breakfast was burned I think. The toast that came with the breakfast was really good. My boyfriend and I kept wondering why it was so good if it was just bread with butter. The coffee was not as good as expected. The Templeton is a Granville Street gem. This is a straight-up diner, serving comfort food favourites and everything that you would expect at a classic American diner. All-day breakfast (asides from Bennies which end at 3pm), burgers, BLT's, and pie à la mode. Serving refills of Oso Negro coffee. Comfy booths, friendly service, and loads of character. What a cute little old school diner. I was soo bummed that they don't serve breakfast all day, but that said it forced me to try their dinner options which were delicious. I'm not a vegan but I tried their vegan poutine and it was so-so. Too salty for my taste. The vegan lentil loaf though was awesome! You get a side salad too which is a nice portion. Their soups of the day were a curried coconut soup and a black bean. Both were amazing. Probably the best part of the meal. And the prices are super affordable. Love this spot! Super funky retro decor definitely 'makes' this old school diner! I was particularly impressed with the staff that were working when we were in at high noon NYE. One server/bartender and a busser whisked efficiently at break neck speeds around this little spot doing absolutely everything: pouring pitchers, buttering toast, refilling ketchup, placing orders, all whilst managing to maintain some level of rapport with groups at the 8 or so booths along with those sitting at the counter. Impressive! I recommend the 777 organic beef burger with fries! Mark had the free range chicken, grilled on focaccia with a side chili which also came highly recommended! Since we were in on a Thursday generously sized pitchers were also on for $10! Loved the turquoise paint and funky touches all over: numerous jukeboxes, cutlery shaped drawer handles, milkshake machine... Overall, great food in an amazing retro environment! Very impressed with the staff performance in an unexpected rush. Not sure if the 'greasy spoon' impression is intentional or if 'The Templeton' is in need of a good scrub. Either way... i'll be back! Very cozy 50s-style diner with awesome decor that makes you want to pop a quarter in the (fake) jukebox at your table. "Snappy" is definitely the word to describe the service - our server asked us all the necessary questions so fast we barely had time to think before answering! She also kept our water and coffee constantly topped up. The servers overall are mega multi-taskers and seem like they're doing five things at once but somehow remaining on top of things. As for the food, think big portions and very tasty. I had the Denver omelette which was huge, and delicious, and the rosemary potatoes that came with it. Not the best potatoes I've ever tasted, but very good. My friend and were also curious and so split a half a grapefruit baked with brown sugar and walnuts - very tasty, although now that I've satisfied my curiosity I think I'm just as happy with a plain old regular grapefruit. Overall I'm definitely coming back for the food, the atmosphere and the service, as well as the fact that the prices are slightly less expensive than other brunch places downtown. read more

Adorable little diner, an oasis on Granville. Came here for breakfast by myself because I desperately needed food and coffee. Sat at the bar. I had the farmer's breakfast, with rosemary potatoes and veggies, eggs any way, salsa and sour cream. Good, although perhaps not the best value. The rest of the menu looked delish. For aesthetics alone I should give the good old Temp 5 stars. I appreciate their menu and its fun, often veggie friendly updated versions of diner classics, but all too often I have been turned off by their lazy "good enough" style cooking. The mac and cheese is oily and bland, the poutine covered in shredded cheddar (are cheese curds THAT hard to get in Vancouver?) and their veggie sandwich boring as hell. That said, for brunch the Templeton often delivers -even though the hashbrowns are always a bit undercooked, the egg options are yummy. However, for the oft-long wait I would rather spend a few extra bones and head a block away to Twisted Fork. The Templeton is a visual gem, a great conversation starter and IDEAL for a drink or two before a night out. Amazing lunch-time spot. Managed to get a booth with some co-workers just before the lunch rush. The server was casual and chatty, giving this spot that amazing classic diner feel. I especially loved the 25cent jukebox selections available at the table! I had the portobello mushroom burger with extra cheese. It was simply divine. The cheese melted off the amazingly marinated mushroom patty during cooking and had crisped up. The crunch when biting in to the burger was to DIE for. The bun and toppings were fresh and delicious as well. The whole thing was just amazing. I picked the house salad as my side and was pleasantly surprised when I discovered it was dressed with some sort of a light/fresh berry vinaigrette. MMMMM! I washed the whole thing down with a cherry coke. This place truly is as good as it gets, I can't wait to go back and try another burger. read more

In a word: yum! The service at The Templeton is reliably light-hearted and attentive. Their blueberry-banana pancakes are always steaming hot and flavourful. The Templeton serves up a deliciously mean eggs Benny but their claim-to-fame has to be the coffee. It's tasty and perfectly brewed, served in jumbo mugs big enough to wrap your hands around. We have been looking for this place for a while and when we finally found it, we knew why this place was such a hit. The place is set up like a traditional diner and we sat at the bar, which meant that we didn't have to wait as long. The service was awesome and they were nice and friendly. We had a sample of stuff since my wife and I were going on a food crawl that day. I had two fried eggs and toast and she had the yogurt and putien. The staff always look frazzled and that doesn't exactly bode well for the organization behind the scenes. The food is good but nothing spectacular -- I mean, it's a diner, so it's tough to go wrong. The space is pretty cramped, so you can expect to wait for a seat during peak hours. The prices are pretty reasonable, though. I had heard about the Templeton for a long time before actually going there, and it did not disappoint. The place was run pretty much single-handedly by our server, who defty moved customers from waiting at the counter to sitting at the tables as they came available, all the while making friendly conversation and running the food. My mac and cheese was fantastic. We shared a deep-fried Mars Bar for dessert, which was crunchy outside but soft and hot and oozy inside. It was delicious, if a bit hard to cut with our forks. The Templeton is one of the first true diners that I've been to that makes a concentrated effort to serve more than a few vegetarian options, choice is key! Along with breakfasts of unique omelette's, raisin french toast, granola and bagels all made with organic, fresh ingredients and served with your choice of toasts and Bacon's (as well as veggie bacon...sacreligious as it may seem, some prefer it), diners can also enjoy a plethora of lunch and dinner options, ranging from gourmet burgers to soups, salads, poutine, fish and chips and strip loin. Enjoy your meal with some oldies tunes from the main jukebox or the small ones at each table. The Templeton has been around since 1934 with various reincarnations since that time. I may be back to check out burgers and the likes but not for brekkie. It was very busy and I heard staff b1tching about a customer who called enquiring how busy they were and was there many people in the line up when they were run off their feet trying to seat everyone. YES that is irritating but don't do it in front of the customers. B1tch about it in the back where you can't be heard. Staff were not rude. Just not very Canadian. I love this place. It's my favourite place to take friends, if they're looking for something interesting and cheap. I love how from the outside, you'd almost be scared to go in, but once you're inside, nothing is more welcoming than the little personal juke boxes (they work!) and the fun, vintage artwork planted inside each table. It's a very quiet, comfortable atmosphere. They regularly have movies nights, so the tiny place gets transformed into a sort of "drive-in" movie theater. Very cute. We watched "Logan's Run" last time we were there. The food isn't greasy diner food either. It definitely has your staple burgers and fries, but they're of a great quality and huge portions. They also have the addition of some very good organic/vegan/vegetarian choices. I'm not a vegetarian myself, but the Vegan chili and the lentil loaf are delish. Also. really yummy Mac & Cheese. AWESOMENESS. I had a huge headache and I went to Leon's with my bf to get a camera and then I decided we should eat because my head was killing me. I went yesterday at 2:00 pm and there was no line up. The menu is full of vegeterian choices, all the eggs are free range and most of the beef is organic. I think you are getting apretty good deal considering the quality of the produce. I had the trucker breakfast and I thought it was delish. The potatoes are seasoned with rosemary and the toast was full of grains mmmm. The turkey sausage was a bit dry, but seriously, it is pretty hard to cook turkey. Its the kind of meat that dries up really fast. My boyfirend had the poutine ( which is made with a mushroom gravy) and he loved it, which was suprising because his standard is high considering he comes from Quebec. After driving down from Whistler to Vancouver for a two-day stay, this was the first decent place that showed up near our hotel on a Yelp search. The place was full enough on a Tuesday night to leave my party of a 3 with a 5 minute wait. No big deal. The menu has a nice variety and even includes some vegan options. I ordered the Tiki burger: "organic free-range chicken, aged white cheddar, pineapple salsa on focaccia". I liked this chicken burger. My friend ordered some chocolate ice cream, but was dissuded form this when the waitress informed him their chocolate ice cream that particular night wasn't so great. This review is seriously way over due. I was in Vancouver a year and half ago for my birthday. It was my first time there and was super excited to try and see new things. Our hotel had free wifi, so one morning I pulled up my Yelp App on my phone and searched for breakfast joints near the Downtown area. There were a couple different options, but the Templeton's rave reviews and photos caught my eye. The place isn't that far of walking distance from our hotel, The Four Seasons. I guess it was still pretty early in the morning because there was only one other table there when we were seated. The first thing that catches your eye is the interior. Bright orange walls accented by old school comic book strips and photos. The one's I could make out the most were the Wonder Woman comics though. Then once you soak all that in you'll notice they have a bar. Yes a bar, and a full service one at that too. From what I could make out it looks like Jim, Jack, Johnny, and several other liquors graced their collection. Now that you've kinda taken in everything and finally get to the menu, you'll notice it's pretty simple. You got your breads and pancakes, scrambles, and platters. Pretty basic for any diner I'd say. I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast and my friend ordered the Big Ass Breakfast (he can eat). My order was super delicious. It's kinda like a scramble. The potatoes were cooked nicely and meshed well with the veg, cheese, and salsa (I'm not a fan of sour cream so I asked them to leave it out). It was filling but not that heavy "OMG I'm about to explode" feeling. Just enough food to get me through the rest of the morning. I didn't even get to try any of my friend's, but from the way he cleaned off his plate I'd assume it was also pretty good. If you guys are in the area I'd definitely recommend the Templteon. I think the waitress thought she needed to warn me, but when I said to bring it on they SO brought it. Mangled eggs is like my new favorite thing ever, and one I sadly am having trouble recreating at home. Fakon that doesn't taste like butt is amazing, and it was even more amazing with the eggs. You know, the eggs that had garlic IN them. This was possibly the most delicious breakfast I've ever eaten. Delicious breakfast!! The TURKEY (heaven) breakfast sausage are amazing. So grateful for that! A way much healthier and tastier than the regular breakfast pork sausages. Very common in a successful restaurant in this area: Line-up.Always. But you will be happy, not sorry!! So I recommend for breakfast especially during the week-end to get there around 8h30am. I know, I know it's early on Sunday morning (as they open at 9am)... But this way you can you should be able to be seat kinda of quick. A friend took me here, and I was a bit skeptical at first -- it has the look of a 50s diner right down to the grungy "is this food going to destroy my arteries?" thing. On the upside, it's definitely just a look. The service is great, the food is fantastic (major comfort food aspect here), and I really enjoy going there alone, sitting at the counter and having a nice meal (try the fish & chips!) while reading a book. There are a ton of vege options and even vegan, but for those meat eaters their 777 burger is awesome! I recommend the vegan lentil loaf, with mushroom gravy and fries. Absolutely and positively 5 stars for this place! Between the upbeat positive attitude of everyone there and the food... It was amazing! Between the 4 of us we had the croissant filled with Brie and eggs, and the truckers breakfast. Both were amazing! The only thing I would suggest (but it didn't effect us) is that the booths can only hold 4 people... So if you come with a larger party then just know that you may have to sit separately... Overall, fabulous. Will be back! read more
