We dined here because we stayed at the restaurant. The restaurant looks clean. Service is a little slow. Everything is expensive. We opted for the $30 breakfast buffet. It was the best option since it came with OJ and tea/ coffee. If you pay for that alone it would cost $6-$8. Buffet did not offer a big selection. If they just took the time and investment to make it look like not so much another hotel room, it would be a great place. This restaurant is located inside the Langham hotel. The whole hotel has that old beauty to it. Since it was a nice night, we sat outside and it was a nice view of the pool. My group of friends went there specifically for the Pasadena dinner week menu. I ordered shrimp cocktail, white sea bass, and chocolate banana napoleon. The food was delicious and came with a generous portion. The horseradish sauce for the shrimp cocktail was amazing, I don't think I had anything like that before. The sea bass came with a corn bread type of side, which was delicious. The waiter was very tentative. He had perfect timing. He had a sixth sense about knowing when we needed something. Overall, it was wonderful. On Saturdays they have a prime rib dinner for $35. From this experience, I will definitely be trying that out. read more

Very few variety for buffet brunch; overpriced and overrated.

Went here today. Celebrated Chinese New Year with the wife and decidedly Chinese mother, here at an American Brunch Buffet... It does beat fighting the crowds at dim sum! For $30 the ayce breakfast/brunch buffet was good. There is something left to say for the variety of the food, but quality was good for food that has to sit in a warmer for close to an hour. The entire buffet was the following: 1. Fruit table - 5 stars. Consisted of very sweet pineapple, blue berries, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, and raspberries. 2. Bagels with homemade lox and cream cheese - 4 stars. The lox on their own were a little on the salty side, but having them homemade with larger slices made up for the heavy handed sodium, and also eating the lox with the provided cucumber slices and cream cheese made it quite nice. 3. Pastries (scones, croissants, danishes, muffins, etc) - 2 stars. If it were not for the chocolate chip scones, I would have given these baked goods 1 star... the croissants were not buttery at all. The inside was dry and rather plain. The scones were good, but not great. 4. Hot breakfast staples (scrambled eggs, blintzes, bacon and two types of sausages (patty form and link form) - 3 stars. These foods are rather difficult to mess up, the thing going against it is the fact that the food often sits in its own grease and/or liquid as it waits to be scooped up by a hungry patron. The sausages looked and tasted homemade, so those were probably my favorite part of that section. 5. The savior of this buffet: The omelet bar. This was the best part of the spread. I guess you can't go wrong with freshly made food. The options are: ham, bacon, onions, bell peppers, mini portabella mushrooms, and spinach. The cheese options: mozz, cheddar and PARMESAN! I've never had parmesan in my omelets, but it was good, it gave it a salty kick often missed in bites that lacked bacon. You can also get an egg white version. I decided to try both, and they did not disappoint. The walk afterwards around the Langham grounds was nice, the fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee included in the meal was very nice, and the complimentary valet (with validation from the restaurant) was a nice end, since no validation meant forking over $12 plus tip... I had the breakfast sandwich, mimosas and my friend had the eggs Benedict. First of, this restaurant is located inside a beautiful hotel (Langham Hotel). The restaurant is directly in front of the their pool. We selected to sit outside for breakfast, which was nice but did get a little hot. The service was great and the food was delicious. For desert we ordered the cheesecake that took forever to come out but it was worth the wait. Actually, the ice cream which comes with the cheesecake was even better. The eggs Benedict come with little crab cakes so stir clear if seafood is not ur thing. I liked this place overall, it is a nice to go w friends for brunch and drink Mimosa. I've stayed in the hotel also and it is the best accommodations lately (I hope an upcoming trip to SD will change that). There is also a lounge on the grounds that have live music on Friday. I don't remember how much the bill for Breakfast was, but it may be a little pricey. One tip - save ur receipt so that the parking/valet fee is waive. Also, walk the grounds when done, they are beautiful! I love the history and pieces of art hanging around. read more

I had my baby shower in the private room, and it turned out fabulous. The food was good, the place was very cozy and pretty, and the service was excellent. I was impressed by the friendly staff who made everything very comfortable and smooth sailing for my party. I would definitely recommend this place for any small events. read more

We went for dinner and sat outside, which was very pretty. Comfy wood furniture overlooking the pool. We skipped wine because it was $15-20 per glass. Ugh. We started with some delicious spicy pumpkin and butternut squash soup. Things went down from there. I ordered the recommended chicken. The sauce was awful. It really tasted like a frozen dinner. The chipotle mashed potatoes were piped out of pastry bag and COLD in the middle (not just luke warm). The "avocado and tomato salad" was chopped romaine with some avocado and diced tomatoes with little (no?) salad dressing. For $28, I felt totally ripped off. I would have been disappointed paying $10 for the meal. The caesar with salmon was without much flavor besides the cheese in the dressing. $19. The coffee was $6 for espresso, and $10 for a mediocre dessert selection. Too expensive! read more

We had dinner last night (3/24/10) @ The Terrace for my husband's birthday (I made reservations thru opentable.com and noted that it was his birthday in the comments). We were promptly seated and the maitre d' acknowledged my husband's birthday. We were not immediately or even quickly greeted by our waiter and as the minutes ticked by and others were being attended to and we hadn't so much as been given water, I grew more annoyed (I frequented The Terrace when the hotel was owned by the RItz Carlton and never had this lack of service). After 15 mins, I finally got up and approached the only waiter I saw, whose greeting was less than friendly. He proceeded to inform me that our waitress was on break (as if I cared or needed to know). He was only marginally apologetic, asked what we needed (instead of noting that we hadn't been served water or had our drink orders taken) and we got our drink orders in. He took no time to explain the seafood buffet, where the stations were or what they contained so I had to ask. We placed our food orders. My husband ordered the NY Strip Steak and I the seafood buffet. The buffet was fine, but not high quality, and his steak was overcooked (not medium as he ordered it) and tough (and he had me try it to be sure). For $175 (with two cocktails and no dessert but including tip), this level of service is unacceptable by a hotel billing itself as 5 star. We were there at the beginning of dinner service and at the time there were only two other tables seated. How our waitress was on break was beyond me and if she was why were we seated in her station? I've lived my entire life in Pasadena and was so disappointed that we chose this locale for my husband's birthday. He didn't even want dessert and no one offered one for his birthday even though the maitre d' knew it was his birthday but clearly didn't point that out to anyone. I planned to have my upcoming birthday brunch at the same restaurant (again having loved it when the restaurant was owned by the Ritz) but now will not. Our experience (and we are not picky or elitist foodies) was such a disappointment that my husband suggested we go to Bob's Big Boy for a birthday chocolate shake! read more

This Review is for Sunday Brunch. We went here on Sunday with my boyfriend and his parents for his mother's birthday (a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion). We sat in the patio and the scenery was beautiful and tranquil on hot sunny SoCal day. The food is good, but don't think you're going to go eat $75pp worth of food, you're paying for the experience and the location as well. The buffet had raw oysters and crab/shrimp, crepe/desert station, carving station, dim sum and traditional items etc ... go for a few hours, enjoy the day and the people you're with, eat courses and drink lots of champagne :) read more

The Langham Huntington Hotel is nothing short of exceptional. They have never failed me. I came here last Sunday with my girlfriends, a group of 5. We made reservations for Sunday brunch and we were seated right away. I ordered the Chicken with Waffles and it was super yummy. It came with a cute little bottle of maple syrup and sweet potato fries. We brought our own cupcakes from Wonderland bakery in Pasadena and sure enough, they gave us plates for our cupcakes. Wow! They were so nice about us bringing in outside food. Great experience. Highly recommend. read more

Came for a bridal party luncheon. The property itself is very beautiful and the restaurant lovely. All the staff members from valet ,servers and management were super friendly. A few of the girls ordered from the regular menu and two of us ordered from the dineLA 2 course prix fixe lunch menu. I had ordered from the dineLA menu and ordered the turkey wrap and sweet potato creme brulee both of which were absolutely delicious! Unfortunately one of the other girls that ordered from the prix fixe menu was not satisfied with her kale and quinoa salad but the manager quickly offered to give her another entrée and she was able to take that home. Everybody else was very happy with their dishes and the servers took quite good care of us the whole time we were there. Will definitely be back to have lunch and to try their dinner menu!! read more

I met my friend up here that I haven't seen in forever and we ended up double dating so I got to meet her new beau. Irrelevant possibly, but I'm setting up the mood. It was the perfect place to do exactly that on this Dine LA week. Rainy outside so we got to sit right next to the brunch foods which was super tempting. I'm glad we went when this place was participating in Dine LA, otherwise we wouldn't have come here. Fortunately, we only had to pay 20 for an entree and dessert or app (didn't include the valet price). Although the serving sizes seem large, i saw the reg menu was pretty pricey. The mood was casual with kids and bday parties, but I still felt fancy being there! Service was alright, the waiter looked pained when we asked for the special dine LA menu though, but he was overall a delightful man who joked about random things. He even offered to bring me new soup bc I hadn't touched it since I was waiting for me friends' food to come (why I was waiting? I don't know). While the Langham is a gorgeous building, with beautiful grounds, the Terrace was a disappointment. The acoustics are really terrible -- I had difficulty hearing my luncheon guests across the table and I found the noise level to be too distracting for a business lunch. In addition, the service was slow, and the endive salad I ordered, while quite good in taste, was absurdly small. I left lunch and promptly got a sandwich elsewhere. I might be back, but I'd never arrange another business lunch there. read more

Pros - good quality food, reasonably priced, prix fixe choices, wonderful pumpkin bisque and delicious sherbet trio w/ berries for dessert; bloody mary was very yummy, coffee was good, too. I wasn't loving the marinated steak salad but it was pretty good. The dessert was amazing somehow. I'm not a sherbet lover but this dessert has converted me when someone knows how to make it right, which they did. Cons - they hurried the delivery of the prix fixe lunch, bringing soup with entree, er. Rush to eat while it's hot!; many bowls and plates. Explanation was that during the week diners are in a hurry. Mistake. It was Saturday anyway. Thoughtful valets valet parking was complimentary, excluding tip, if dining. Busy and well organized beautiful setting. The Langham is a special place since my wife and I were married here (when it was the Ritz). The Terrace is a great place for a relaxing quiet lunch or dinner (on the outside patio by the pool is the best spot). The food is what you would expect for a high-end hotel - solid, but pricey. My one gripe is the children's food options - the pizza they served our daugher must have come right out of the microwave - ugh! Lunch is generally better than dinner (dinner can get very expensive quickly). The one saving grace for dinner is the souffle - really great and always consistent. read more

This is an out of the way place that you can explore. It is located in an old hotel that has seen more glorious days. It used to be the Ritz Carlton. In summer they have music on weekends by the pool. The Terrace restaurant has excellent service and excellent food. The price is truly reasonable too. Came for brunch on a Sunday. The burger and fries were some of the best I've ever had! Service was really slow, though. After we were seated, no one came to greet us or ask for our drinks for at least 15 minutes. Our check was also not given or picked up for the same amount of time. My husband took me to The Terrace for Valentine's Day dinner and the service, food, atmosphere and everything else was great. The Terrace is located in the Langham hotel so naturally the service was outstanding, from the valet to the front receptionist to the waiting service, all were great. The decor is classic, not the most modern but I didn't mind it. The food was great, everything we tasted was great. We started with bread and a roasted pepper sauce, even if you don't like bread, the roasted pepper sauce was a must to try! We ordered the artichoke for our appetizer, then I had the pot roast and my husband had the snapper, both delicious. We shared the souffle (takes 20 minutes), but worth it! read more

OMG, the worst brunch I ever had, we had the 30 bucks all you can eat buffet option, nothing special about the food, selection was limited, they had some not so homemade pastries, which pastries they ordered from outside bakery, I know cause I work for another hotel, cut fruit in bowls, and omlet station which was nothing special, the breakfast mealtstation was ok, but the potatoes has no taste, the only think I like was the smoked salmon with bagels which I can make it at home in 2 minutes, that was all the selections at the brunch, where are the seafood and desserts?? the place was beautiful but the food didn't make out to it, this place is more like ladies at lunch, it was way overpriced for the kind of food offerd and I don't think will go back again. read more

Understated, calming, delicious. My very favorite restaurant in all of L.A., the friendliest wait staff ever and yes, while the shrimp cocktail seems steep, the taste of those giant prawns is unsurpassed. Would order that again in a heartbeat! Love the presentation of desserts, love sitting outside by the pool in the evening for a special occasion, and the long walk around the stunning property makes the evening romance complete after dinner. Growing up in the area, this hotel was always a family favorite. It wasn't until recently that we rediscovered The Terrace. We gave the place another shot because we didn't like the food when the hotel used to be Ritz-Carlton. The entrées are now much more solid and quality. There is creativity and uniqueness in their offerings, but most of the entrées are not so noteworthy that the craving would stay with you for weeks. The atmosphere is the main reason why I go there, especially for a reasonably-priced food items. I would suggest a revamping of the menu and maybe adding new or special items. Also, beverages like tea are overpriced when it's simply a teabag. The servers are friendly and helpful. I'm never disappointed when I go to The Terrace. It's reliable but I think with some further changes, the restaurant would be more memorable. read more

Came for day off to enjoy the beach and have some brunch. I would say this is not the restaurant at all for that location, its a junk food place, food is terrible, I was with my two kids and I ordered baby back ribs it took them almost forever and when they brought the meal it was cold, meat was terrible cooked we could not eat, my kids still stayed hungry so I have to order some french fries only and it took 30 minutes to bring I tired of waiting and when I was tried to cancel they throw the plate in front of us, I asked to bring the bill again 30 minute wait period than I left the the cash on table and was about to leave, next thing the owner of the restaurant came in and was upset that I did not wait for waitress and asked for extra tip, I gave him a hundred dollars bill and told him get as much as you want I have to take my kids another place to fit, they told me they do not have change for hundred, then I gave them my credit card and I was charged extra. Do not use this place if you want to enjoy the beach. read more

This place never lets me down!! 3rd year in a row coming in. This time was our 2 year wedding anniversary. Stephanie the morning hostess was great and a pleasure to speak with. She took down my request and also had my flowers and gift bag placed in the office until my arrival later that evening. Our servers Rigo(?) and Sabrina were both great and they also surprised us with chocolate covered strawberries!! The PM hostess Bonnie was sweet, she delivered my wife's gift and flowers and they were all so pleasant!! Looking forward to our next visit. Just hope we don't have to wait another year again! My fiance and I visited this restaurant for brunch. The atmosphere is beautiful. Staff was excellent and helpful I just thought that the brunch selection was not as extravagant as the price. When I called to make the reservation for a special birthday lunch, I got a recording apologizing that no-one was there to take reservations. It was an important day for someone to answer, because they were testing the hotel alarm system ad nauseum, and a forewarning would have been in order. The message said they would call back. That was over twelve hours ago. When I made a reservation online, I mentioned it was for a birthday. No birthday dessert or mention of it came. I think all the staff and guests were shell shocked from the alarms. They were going off long before we got there, and I heard them as we drove away. I did call again before leaving home, but got the same apology that the particular woman who takes all dining reservations was unavailable. Happy Birthday, Sweetie. So glad we could have alarms screeching through all of it. We had a Christmas dinner at another of the hotel's restaurants about 12 years ago and felt ignored. We only went again because we were given a gift certificate, which we didn't use up. I wonder if the Langham would simply buy out our balance? It is a beautiful place, but service is not their forte. read more

Wow, what happened to this venue? The hotel that was once the Huntington and then the Ritz-Carlton became The Langham; it has the glorious building, grounds, and furnishings, but no sense of excellence when it comes to the restaurants. A grand hotel's main everyday restaurant should have very good food (every Ritz and Four Seasons has such a place) but on the day we were there The Terrace served up bread that was more than a day old, "braised pork belly" that was dry and tasteless (restaurant fads are dangerous, and "pork belly" has hit its peak when the kitchen does not get that pork belly is supposed to be gelatinous with lovely fat and reduced stock) and a chicken wrap with dry tasteless chicken and a very stale tortilla. The cold corn soup was OK, but honestly, the fast food at Starbucks is way superior. The ambiance is good (it's a fine old building) but even that was spoiled by pool laundry staff trudging huge very noisy carts the entire length of the pool--four of them, one every 10 minutes to break up our conversation (there's no other path from the laundry to the pool's towel room?) read more

So disappointed with our annual Christmas dinner at the terrace this year! We have had wonderful meals there in the past and were excited to continue the tradition. Service was beyond slow and quite erratic. We brought our own wine and couldn't even get glasses for over ten minutes. There were multiple hosts and hostesses running around but few servers and bussers. The food was fine (the soup amazing) but our dirty dishes weren't cleared until we asked after a really long wait. We had to track down bill and even had to take it up to the hostess stand to pay because no one came for it. I guess at some restaurants none of this would have been that strange, but at a high end hotel with a pricey fixed price meal it was surprising. Needless to say, Christmas dinner next year will be had elsewhere. read more

Came here with my wife Friday night and it was pretty much empty so I'm not sure why we needed reservations. The hotel was having a few parties so getting into the valet took longer then usual, and the restaurant itself was in the far back right down some stairs. We sat outside next to the pool area, ambiance was nice, and there is inside seating too; there were a few families so don't be surprised seeing and hearing kids. Alcohol comes from the main bar upstairs, and they've got a good variety. Food was OK to good with a great flank steak in sweet mushroom sauce to a mediocre wine braised beef rib which was a bit too salty and stringy. Server, Rafael, was excellent, and brought us a cake and candle for our anniversary. If you only want a meal, there are much better places in Pasadena. If you want a nice and quiet place to relax with your loved one(s), it's a good choice. read more

Original Review (7/19/2016): We stopped by the Terrace for lunch today (7/19/2016) for the DineLA special (check #3230). The service was awful, which was very disappointing. The Langham is such a nice and high-end hotel. Unfortunately the service at the Terrace did not match that image. First, it was hard to find our server. Not once did our server stopped by our table to ask "Is everything ok" nor "Do you need more water?". We had to flag down another server to get more water. Our server only came over for order, drop off food, and the bill. When I say "drop" off food, I am not kidding. He wasn't gentle. My wife selected the cake option for the set menu, which had a crunchy triangular decorative piece leaning on the cake. It topped over when our server rushed and "dropped" off the plate onto the table. Secondly, someone deceived us, which is the worst part. The cake that my wife ordered had a small fly stuck to the side of the frosting. It's fine, things happen, and that's not the server's fault. So we asked for a replacement piece. Before I made the request, I made two small unique marks on the opposite corner of the cake (from where the fly was) when our server wasn't around. The server said he will ask for a new piece of cake for us. So we waited and our server bought the cake back without the small fly. However, when I check the opposite corner, I found my two small unique marks. Never would I thought that I would be lied to at a high end hotel restaurant. It's unacceptable. The fly is not a big deal, but being deceived is. It's a shame. We live nearby and this is such a beautiful hotel to stop by for meals. read more
