The terrace is a great place to have brunch. Just don't allow April to help you with reservations. I had two events there in the last month. A bday party and a bridal shower in their private room. The birthday party was amazing . Staff were super helpful . We brought balloons , a cake and everything was great. Since we had such a good time and experience for the birthday party. I decided to host a bridal shower there as well. I requested the private room which had been offered to me for the first event . I made a reservation with the host who was super friendly and very helpful. Everything was set. 13 guests, private room, bring a cake , small flowers for the table. Everything was going great while I was communicating with the hosts who helped me with the previous bday reservation. Then after having my reservation on the books for over 2 weeks . I received a phone call from April , someone new , apparently she works for special events. I had never spoken to her in the past and she basically told me that . I had to pay extra for the private room, pay extra to bring and cut a cake , and that most likely I would not have the private room for my reservation. I explained to her it was my second event at the restaurant and I wasn't sure why she was calling me. Since I only had 13 guests coming. I wasn't having an event where a room needs to be rented. She finally told me that if no one else called to reserve the private room then I could have it but I had to wait and see . She ended up waiving the charge to cut the cake. She wanted to charge $5.50 per person to cut the cake. I was shocked since I had such a good experience with the hosts on my prior visit. Constance , is the hosts that helped me and made sure everything went well during my event. She was great! Basically - April had terrible customer service skills , calling me last minute and adding all these fees for big private events. I had 13 people. One table only. Constance the host and Mo , our server were great and they helped my event be pretty smooth. Great hotel , nice restaurant, just don't allow April to get involved. There are lots of other private rooms that yes, additional fees should be charged and April can be involved in those reservations But not for the terrace. read more

The view of the pool and the garden was just beautiful, we had some drinks and some burgers, everything was really good. I'm a pasadena resident and have always wanted to visit the langham, its nestled in this inconspicuous small street that screams old money. So as the Mrs and I were deciding where we should have dinner on date night, the idea came to mind to check out the langham. Reservations were easy to get as it was quiet on a Monday night. Valet parking 10 bucks with validation. Restaurant is on the right and down the stairs. We were seated outside by the pool, the building, landscaping and beauty of the architecture was very impressive. Did I mention this place screams old money? The menu isn't crazy. You get a selection of 2 soups, about 8 starters to pick and about 8 entrees. My girlfriend went with the short ribs. She enjoyed it. We shared a crab cake. It was tasty. And I ordered a burger which came with fries and finished the evening off with the creame brule which came highly recommended. The reviews are pretty accurate. The foods alright... Crab cake could've been better if they had a zesty dipping sauce. I thought the short ribs needed a bit more seasoning. A little sweetness to balance the savory. The burger bun was thick. I ended up just eating it with the bottom bun. The burger was a little plain and didn't have any kind of special sauce to make it unique. But that's just my opinion, I'm assuming they cater more to an older crowd with different set of taste buds. Overall, staff were very friendly. While we have had very satisfying experiences at The Terrace before, the Xmas Eve prix fixe dinner experience was somewhat troubling. The food was quite good, except my wife felt her dessert was too sweet. But the service, while friendly and welcoming, fell short of attention to basic details: I had to ask for new knife and fork when my entree arrived, waited a while and the server brought us each steak knives for our filet mignons (which should have been provided in the first place) but he forgot my request for a fork, had to flag him down to get one; server did not ask if we wanted tea or coffee when our desserts arrived, I had to ask and waited a while for it to arrive (it came after already finishing my dessert) and they didn't even bring out cream and sugar, I had to drink it black (didn't want another long wait). Pricing was not as advertised on Open Table. Restaurant website directs you to Open Table for the current menu. On Open Table the pricing was $150/person with 20% "gratuity" added. Fine. But when the bill came there was a 20% "service charge" added plus the calculations for gratuity. I had to google "service charge vs tip" and the overwhelming consensus was that the tip (goes direct to server) is separate from a service charge (goes direct to ownership), thus I felt compelled to add a tip and not raise an issue, being Christmas Eve and all. As a person who grew up in Pasadena, I must say that this place holds some special memories, like my high school prom many years ago. Although time has passed, the historic Langham Huntington is still a stunning property. Tucked inside the property is The Terrace Restaurant. The Terrace is wonderful for casual dining. Nothing beats sitting outside on a beautiful day enjoying great conversation. Our server was very friendly and attentive. For ambiance and service, hands down this is 5 stars. The food was good, but maybe a bit underwhelming so I would give it 3 stars. Parking is super easy. It's valet only, and part of the cost is discounted if you get your ticket validated by the restaurant. Lastly, do yourself a favor and explore the grounds before or after your meal. We went to the Terrace to have breakfast. The hot chocolate didn't taste good at all, so I told the waiter, who actually told me that if I didn't like it then don't drink it. That was such rude service in such a high-end hotel. Why I need to got such rude service when I went to have breakfast on my birthday day? Really disappointing. I hope the attitude of the waiter will change. We waited for more than 30 minutes for our breakfast. During this time, we asked why it took so long, and the waiter said it needed a time. If there is no enthusiasm for service, better not do this job. We are paying to have a peaceful breakfast. She ruined my day. I hope the hotel will improve its service. The avocado toast required more salt than my arm could afford to pour, and the banana bread reminded me of the ones they serve on planes. I'm sad to give this restaurant 3 stars but in my opinion the price just doesn't match the quality. It's outrageously expensive and the service is wonderful but the food is just fine. In my opinion you'd be better off going somewhere else cheaper in Pasadena than eating at the hotel. Went to a family dinner here on a Thursday night as my parents were guests, wasn't a problem getting the reservation for 6, got seated right away outside. It was slightly chilly, but they have heaters (like everywhere in CA) so we didn't get cold. We ordered appetizers and everyone except 1 person in the party got the scallops. I would say the risotto was good and the scallops were alright. The sauce they were served in was basically a sweet and sour sauce. Didn't seem to go with the creamy risotto which kind of threw the whole dish off for me. The appetizers we got were truffle fries, the burrata salad and Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were the best thing of the night actually, really light and crispy. And for dessert someone got a creme brûlée, which was good. Parking is non-existent near the hotel, you have to valet. It's $20 for the day, or $10 if you get validation from the restaurant. Even though on the open table website it specifically states it's $8 with validation, but I was told that the prices changed. They should really reflect that on their reservation sites, it already sucks to pay so much for parking, but to pay more than expected is even worse. Overall, I just don't think the food was good enough to come back to try for dinner again, especially at the price point. So my parents are visiting town and I took them to the Langham brunch for a good time. When I stood up my mom noticed my pants got some stains as showed in the pic, and we noticed there's multiple stains everywhere on the couch. There's stain on my moms side too and her black dress got colored too. We told the waitress and she called the manager JEAN INZUNZA, after I stated what happened to the manger, she kept saying she doesn't know how the stain got on there, she said maybe there was kids earlier, she told us the best she can do is for us to leave the clothes here(I'm wearing the pants?) and they can wash them or we can go find a dry clean and come back with the receipt. First of all, I don't live around and probably won't have the time to come back just to get the laundry reimbursement. Second of all, being more than doing, a genuine gesture of apologies will be much more appreciated than asking us come back with the receipt. This is not about right or wrong here and I'm not making you wrong or being personal. As a manager, keep saying you don't know what happened sounded like you are defending and don't want to take any responsibility. Good service is about making sure costumers are happy instead of busy defending yourself. You caused us trouble and now you expect us to go take care of it ourselves and you will cover the expense. So our time and energy is not valuable? Are we working for the hotel? What kind of service is that? On top of it the food was really basic and limited. Things like smoked salmon before is gone, now the only thing they provided was omelet. On the webpage and through the phone they told me it's $40 per person but they charged us $45 per person, and plus tax it was $200 for three of us. Rolls were warm and brought tableside with molded butter orbs waiting in a ramekin. Coffee was poured for me and engaging talk of the 2019 Rose Parade Marshall Chaka Khan, Cal-Tech, Niels Bohr and application of physics to the natural world was "stuff of intrigue." Let's end this week with a good one... I returned back to The Langham but chose The Terrace over Tap Room and this time, I really enjoyed my visit! From the lobby, it felt as though it was a longer trek since it was the opposite direction to get to from the Tap Room, but I also say this since I was in heels so in theory, it may not have been. Hostess greeted me right away, asking if I wanted inside or out and I once again opted for out. She sat me at a prime table which overlooked the pool area. Coming here around 1:30p was ideal, as it wasn't as crowded as it probably was earlier. Server came out within a couple of minutes and I made this easy since I already knew what I had wanted. A new menu debuted on the 18th of March, and quite a few things stood out. Today I went with the Cacio e Pepe (their version was with spaghetti, black pepper, Pecorino Romano cheese and a grilled baguette). Bread service was offered and another server came by with a selection of three choices, I opted for the olive which was odd since I'm not crazy about olives but this was pretty good. Food arrives and I will say compared to what the menu says, the pasta was not spaghetti, nor was the bread a baguette (see photo attached), but regardless, this WORKED on every level. In the past, I've had this dish and it was rather overwhelming for me, but here, it was done perfectly. Just the right amount of pepper, and I was able to savor every bite. Basil was also incorporated, and this added more flavor to an already well-done plate. The only off moment was when the server was MIA for a while after I had my food taken away, waiting for the check. I'm not sure if he thought I was a guest there, but it took a little bit of time, but not as long as it did when I was at the Tap Room. I knew they closed down at 2p and by now it was almost 2:30p, but I guess if guests were already present, they weren't rushing to kick anyone out. Some people had pretty pink lunchbox style boxes but I was only given a brown regular box. Perhaps it was due to the type of food I had, but these other boxes were really cute (already thinking of how to obtain one on my next trip). Overall, my experience this time around went really well, and I'm looking forward to returning to try their version of the Waldorf, in addition to enjoying that pasta dish again. As long as they stay away from bucatini or garganelli as the pasta (don't ask, I'm weird), I'll be enjoying this again! If you valet, they do validate so it comes to $6, so make sure you present your ticket to them with your check. Most of the time, they are good at asking anyway. I'm glad the Terrace brought me back to The Langham for a pleasant afternoon. I'm late writing my review because I thought I had already done it. Oopsy! February 8, 2020: In celebration of my sister-friend's (SF) divorce, I wanted to treat her to a beautiful brunch. Service: The hostess was busy when we arrived so it took her a few minutes before she finally addressed us and then seated us. Because of the empty dining room (most were seated outside), we were able to choose our seats. YAY! Our server, I forgot his name again, was a great one. He was attentive, funny, and informative. As we left, the valet people were kind as well. Food: Well, I'm picky and will definitely return for the exact same thing I had on this day! OH GOODNESS! The table bread and butter were soft enough and tasty. We started with a salad they call "Avocado" and Crispy Brussel Sprouts. No way was this salad worth $16.00 as tasty as it was. I hate Brussel Sprouts yet my SF and I loved this version of them. The Brussel Sprouts came with pomegranate, herb goat cheese, pistachios, and bacon. It was SO GOOD and I venture to say worth the $16.00. My SF had the Lobster Bisque and she was beyond pleased. I never tasted it but she talked about it for two days. That's saying a lot since she's a trained and educated chef. I ordered the grilled cheese which came with tomato soup and fries. The tomato soup was DELISH! The fries were pretty good. The grilled cheese was the BEST I have had in a long time! Odds & Ends: Paid valet parking is your ONLY choice which sucks but whatever. The valet attendants are dressed in 50s attire and are simply adorable and polite. It's very easy to get lost since there are few signs showing how to get to The Terrace from the valet. We got lost twice but enjoyed walking off some of our meals. I will never stay at this hotel on purpose but I will definitely return to The Terrace time and time again. read more

I was contemplating whether to selfishly give a decoy rating of 5 stars so people come here (instead of actually good restaurants), but I'd rather be honest. Our filet mignon and sides were honestly NO BETTER than a steak you can get at Chillis, Applebees, or BJs, but at 4-5x the price. I know, because I used to visit Chillis once a week for their 2-for $20 deal 10 years ago when I was serving coffee at Starbucks. If you're looking for an upscale dinner, I would recommend going somewhere where they *specialize* in food, instead of also providing hospitality. Good options are: -Flemings in Pasadena -Fogo De Chao in Pasadena or Downtown LA -Ruth Chris in Pasadena -Houston's in Pasadena Pro tip: If you're looking to get similar quality food, I would recommend visiting Applebees and telling the hostess you're willing to drop 40% tip so they'll assign you a waiter who can *pretend* this is a fancy restaurant by describing the food and/or folding your towels. It'll feel just like Terrace at Langham, and you'll save money! Clean bathrooms, though. And great landscape paintings all over the Langham, if you're into that sort of thing. read more

In short, was like dining at a bad culinary school restaurant. Service and food was inconsistent, with Langham's reputation and pricing was expecting better, so entire experience was a big let down. Details: Valentine Pre-fixed dinner with my wife and adult daughter. Champagne and bread starter was nice. Service at this point was already lacking. 30 minutes in before someone took our order. We all had lobster bisque to start. We didn't ' get spoons (had to ask) and was later told they ran out of soup spoons so they gave us dessert spoons instead. 2nd course: Hamachi crisp was good. Especially the citrus sudashi. Mushroom risotto, was salty and super rich. We could only finish a few bites. Main course: islandic cod was perfect, but the oxtail that it came with was so salty it was inedible. Five spice short rib and polenta were edible, but nothing memorable. Dessert was good. Red velvet chocolate cake and chocolate strawberry mousse. Kudos to the pastry chef. Unfortunately, our server was not good. We were able to compare another server to the table next to us and he was more attentive in just refilling our water than our server was for the whole night. Two different patrons left the table next to us before we were done. This was a hit and miss in execution from top to bottom. Unfortunately The Langham charged top dollar for the meal and service (20% tip up charge), but did not deliver. Oh, insult to injury...they ran out of complimentary roses by the end of our dinner. We arrived at around 7am and the restaurant was nearly empty. I requested a window seat as they were all available upon arrival. Right after we got seated they seated another party right outside our window despite having the entire patio to choose from. Why would you seat two parties right next to each other in an empty restaurant?? I felt uncomfortable looking out the window to enjoy the view as the other party was sitting RIGHT THERE. The food was overall ok- the French toast and smoked salmon had nice portions and a nice flavor balance. The avocado toast was very disappointing. They should call it egg toast as it had two eggs with a THIN THIN layer of avocado spread that you couldn't even taste. I was apprehensive because of the negative yelp reviews but I needed a quiet place for a business lunch. In that regard , the terrace was the ideal spot: nice view on the pool, white napkins , no music and excellent service. The food was more a 3.5 stars:I had the couscous salad with salmon and the fish was perfectly cooked. What this dish lacked was the style: there was a mountain of greens , the couscous hidden under and the salmon just put on top: no effort in the presentation , no "love" in the flavors! This is more a 3.5 star review for the food , 4 for the venue and 5 for the service. I read in other reviews that there were going to completely review their menu and food and I urge them to do it because this hotel is wonderful and deserves better. While staying at the Langham Huntington, I had breakfast one morning at The Terrace. I ordered the vegan garden pancakes, which were quite delicious. The texture inside was so creamy I briefly considered whether there was cheese inside. It was served with a coconut-beet puree that was truly amazing. It had a distinct coconut edge to it that provided a little sweetness to the otherwise savory meal, and I thought that was the perfect touch. The pancakes came with a side salad that was flavorful, but somehow it showed up at the end of the meal, so I didn't eat too much of it. (I didn't even know it came with a salad, it was a surprise.) I went into expecting higher prices, but I was pleasantly surprised with the portions. The service was as to be expected in a high end place such as this. It was formal, polite, and prompt. It was very simple to bill it to my room. I probably wouldn't make a point to eat at The Terrace if I wasn't a hotel guest, but if I return to the Langham Huntington, I would surely try it again, especially the Brussels sprouts I noticed on the menu. read more

I would say avoid this place for dinner based on our experience. The food was good, the staff was nice but getting sick and having the rest of our weekend plans derailed was not worth it. We did let the front desk know and nothing was done. At this point we just wanted to get out of the hotel and be sick in our own bed. I have been here many times! Terrace is a great restaurant for nice occasions: birthdays, Mothers Day, Chinese New Year, etc. They have a variety of foods from American to Chinese, especially for Sunday brunch. You dont need to stay at the hotel to eat at the Terrace. I look forward to spending many more occasions here!! read more

Truly the worst Christmas Eve dinner I've had at a restaurant. Don't accept so many reservations for a holiday night if you're not equipped to handle it. When we arrived, we waited nearly 10 minutes for the hostess to even come to the front. No one was even there. It wasn't until another person from a different party went to the kitchen to get someone's attention. The waiters working the tables all ignored the crowd that was gathering by the entrance. Rightfully so, since there should've been a host at the front in the first place. During our wait, we saw that there weren't any tables open at all, which was surprising considering we and the parties behind us all had reservations. The hostess offered to split our group up (which made no sense) but ultimately set up a new table in the walkway where no table should've been in. But we decided to si anyways because we didn't want to be split up and we were getting pretty upset about how the evening began. Our server came and brought us waters, but then disappeared. Some 15 minutes later, we finally were able to flag down another server to take our order because our original server disappeared on us. None of the staff even noticed us because of where they set up the table. From the start of our reservation time and the time waiting to be seated to when we actually got the appetizers, it took a full hour. Ridiculous. Luckily, we had bread to keep us company while we waited. The Christmas Eve dinner had a set menu. Appetizers for the table were: CHILLED CITRUS POACHED SHRIMP, WINTER WEDGE, PEAR AND BRIE IN PHYLLO, and WINTER PUMPKIN SOUP. The poached shrimp were just regular chilled shrimp with a lemon wedge and cocktail sauce; very basic and nothing special. The winter wedge was a small lettuce head sliced in half topped with bacon jam, blue cheese, almonds, fried sweet potatoes, and "house made dressing" that tasted like Thousand Island dressing. This was probably the best appetizer of the four items. The pear and brie looked like a fried eggroll topped with cranberry sauce and frisée lettuce. It was cold and the phyllo pastry was soggy. The pumpkin soup could've been decent if it wasn't awfully cold. The creme frachie had actually hardened because of how cold the soup was. It looked like it was sitting on the counter for an hour. There were also toasted pepitas in the soup. For the entree, they had four options to choose from: GRILLED MOYER FARM FILET MIGNON, MAPLE GLAZED PORK CHOP, PAN-ROASTED SCALLOPS, and ROASTED PUMPKIN RAVIOLI. We only got the filet mignon and pork chop. The filet mignon was cooked fine to mediums and medium rare but it had a mushy texture. Pork chop portion was larger than expected which was nice but the meat was rather pink and slightly under seasoned. There were also sides for the table to share: HERB BUTTER MASHED POTATOES, ROASTED CARROTS, and SAUTÉED BRUSSELS SPROUTS. These three side dishes were actually the best things we had all night. The dinner wrapped up with BÜCHE DE NOEL that tasted and felt like it was in the fridge for a week. The dinner was $135/person plus a 20% service charge on the bill. I couldn't even reduce the tip for the poor service even if I wanted to. While we were eating, we kept seeing crowds of people being ignored by the entrance because the hostess was nowhere to be seen, just like we experienced earlier in the evening. Everyone had a sour look when they were finally led to their table 10-15 mins later. Long waits really shouldn't be happening if you have a reservation system. Langham had parking for $20, but restaurant validation made it $10. Their credit card system was down so they only took cash, zelle, or venmo. This was my first time at The Langham even though I've lived nearby for years. While the hotel is nice and the decorations were lovely, this restaurant was awful. I might give try the other restaurants in the hotel, but chances of coming back to The Terrace is unlikely. I would recommend other restaurants elsewhere for better food, service, and experience: Fogo de Chao, Gaucho Grill, Ruth's, Fleming's, The Derby are all better options than here. read more

My parents were staying at the Langham for Mother's Day weekend and had made a reservation for their Mother's Day brunch. My sister and I were visiting from Las Vegas so we all wanted to eat somewhere special. We checked in for our reservation a little before 2pm and were greeted by the hostess Isabel. She was so kind and wonderful in accommodating us on the terrace. She even came back to give us an extra rose for my sister who is a mom to be! The different courses they had made for the menu were tasty and exquisite. Loved the ambiance outside. Our server Benson was very nice and attentive. The entire experience was overall great. So lovely being able to have a nice meal celebration at a restaurant because we haven't been able to do something like this together as a family since before the pandemic!
