Very enjoyable meal with nice ambience, all tables filled up soon after we arrived so glad we were at the bar with a bit more space.

We had a 7 PM dinner reservation and arrived at 6:55. The hostess said our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar. It took 10 minutes for a bartender to acknowledge our presence and take our order. Twenty minutes passed... the hostess didn't make an effort to update us despite walking by a few times. Finally, a member of our party went to her and checked in. She said the people at the table we were supposed to be seated at had been there for three hours, she was going to get her manager involved, and "we'll send you a bunch of free stuff" when we finally sat down. At 7:35, we were finally seated. The hostess came back and plunked down a plate of something without even explaining what it was. We checked our menus -- they were corn fritters that had pancetta in them. A member of our party was vegetarian. That was the first and last of the "bunch of free stuff," which we didn't care much about, but why promise that to a customer and then be both unceremonious and miserly about it? It took another ten minutes for a server to come by for our drink order. Can't really blame this person. They were confused by the sight of food on our table and thought we had already been taken care of. Two of us ordered burgers -- one medium and the other medium rare. They came out medium and medium well. The manager was very kind about offering to take the incorrect one back to the kitchen but at that point, we'd spent so much time waiting around, we weren't about to wait any longer to eat. The food was all very good, as were the drinks. (In case you're wondering, they didn't take anything off the bill to make up for the wait. We got some free fritters that not everyone in our group could even eat, and that was it.) Long and short of this experience: if you look at the descriptions of the service here ("gracious" and "welcoming"), we found it to be none of those things. Maybe the lingering customers really threw them off their game. But things like that happen at restaurants all the time. How the staff recovers can make all the difference in the world. Since the Tilted Row is off the beaten path for us, we really don't see any reason to return. There aren't that many restaurants in Bolton Hill, so for the neighborhood's sake, we wish this place the best and hope other customers don't have to experience the confused, inefficient, and inelegant service that we did. read more

Our son lives in the neighborhood and we were looking for a place to have dinner and found Tilted Row to be very inviting and promising. Well, beyond the decor and great service, this is absolutely first class, with innovative dishes and flavors. We tried the Scotch Egg (if you love those, this one takes the prize, and I was in Edinburgh recently in an restaurant specializing in Scoth Egg and still maintains this one takes the prize), the Moorish eggplant (refreshing, flavorful) and the focaccia (the real stuff, but covered in amazing herbs and less dough-y than most - so amazing). We followed up with the salmon (again, amazing crust of herbs), the ratatouille (the same one as in the movie I guess, delicious and vegetarian), and the Mac and cheese (decadently great). We did not leave room for the amazing desserts but will be back, as well as we will look out for the other sister restaurant from the same owner. read more

Very rarely do I visit Bolton Hill but this business drew my attention as I was looking for a brunch spot in nearby Hampden. It has a nice presentation very bright with lots of windows and options to sit at a table, at the bar or at the kitchen bar where you can view the preparation. At the time that we visited they were in the process of changing from their fall/winter cocktails to their spring selection so a lot of them were not available which I assume was due to the fresh nectar and blends that they use but don't know exactly why. The cocktail I had was good and so was the bloody mary my wife had. Service was attentive but a bit slow given the fact that the place was pretty empty since people are not going out. Both of us had the short rib hash which had a beautiful presentation. The flavor was quite enjoyable and the portion was just right. People next to us were having the steak and eggs and the chicken and waffles which also looked very good. Prices are slightly high especially on the drinks. A concern would be parking as most of the area offers street parking so on a busy weekend night that may be a challenge. read more

New Restaurants or places that are getting their feet wet underneath them should not participate in Restaurant week, absolutely not. I dropped in thinking their regular menu was going to be offered in addition to the RW menu, that is not the case so that was a bummer, decided to stay. Service was God awful slow from taking in orders, to the food that came out everything moved slow like molasses. I ordered the grits and meatballs to start, probably a meatball was split in 4 different parts very small, the grits were ok. Ordered the steak medium, came out more on the medium rare side, just ate it didnt want to be bothered to send it back since it took a while to come out. Mashed potatoes were nothing special, the chimchurri was more like a pesto type sauce. I make better, including the steak. You know the whole approach to the RW menu is unimaginative when they have strawberries as a dessert lol, i went with the chocolate cake which probably came from a store. All three courses took a long time to come out, carrying on with the theme, the check took a while. So to circle back therein lies my reason as to why. Also the restaurant was noisy, my goodness if noise level is going to be an issue. Nice restaurant, slow service, food was average, it did come out hot tho. Went to this place for brunch and the food was absolutely spectacular. Everything on the table was incredible. The cinnamon roll was the best I've ever had - warm, fresh, perfect amount of glaze. The fries were crispy but still thick and came with harissa sauce and (my favorite) truffle butter. The french toast came as these shareable cubes, topped with a mouth-watering caramel sauce and whipped cream. My friends had the eggs dish, which they loved, especially the bacon and biscuit. I tried their grits too and they were so good. This is comfort food at its best! Service was attentive and excellent. They offered us many seating options (even up by the open kitchen, where you can watch the action). When you can tell the bev director what you're in the mood for, not a drink but a literal mood and she puts it in front of you in liquid form? That's a place you spend the night for. This place is a warm embrace from a friend. Every plate that was put in front of us was made with heart and executed on a level far beyond a "great neighborhood spot". The best of both worlds. Every thing was delicious and the service was very prompt. The bread of my burgur was crisp, light and buttery and the caremelized onions were perfect. Thick, juicy patty was not over cooked. Wanted to try a new restaurant for restaurant week this year and very glad that we chose tilted row. I started with a cocktail, lavender lemonade, definitely on the sweet side but I enjoyed it. The floral taste comes through but well balanced, does not taste like soap lol. Boyfriend had whiskey flight which he was not super impressed with, very sharp and burning, none were smooth like he wanted. Moving on to appetizers, I had the Filli sampler and he had lobster corn bisque. We also added the focaccia bread which was well seasoned and so soft inside, worked really well with the refreshing corn bisque. For main entrees we had steak and whole branzino. The steak was perfectly medium rare, and the herb sauce was awesome. The brazino was crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside, very delicious. Although with the plump meat it could use a tad bit more seasoning perhaps. For dessert I was pleasantly surprised that they also had breadpudding as an option, not previously on the restaurant week menu. The texture was perfect and not overly sweet which I enjoyed. The staff here are extremely friendly, from our waitress to the chefs to the manager of operations Sam. We sat at the chef's table (bar seating) and loved watching the chefs prepare our food and interacting with them. Our waitress brought us some complimentary mussels to start and it was extremely tasty. We ordered crab deviled eggs, which were pretty good (lacking that "wow" factor), and also the zucchini fritters (amazing!) to start. Also ordered the Tilted Burger, which my girlfriend ranked in her top three all-time burgers, and a side of truffled mash (delicious!). Our waitress also brought out some complimentary chocolates in celebration of our anniversary. Ended the night with some great conversation with the manager Sam. Overall, this restaurant is amazing. The space is modern, chic and trendy. I can see ourselves as regulars and bringing our out-of-town friends/family here. Definitely considering this spot for future birthday celebrations. Tried this place for the first time last night. Great experience. Staff was awesome. Host who greeted and sat us was very nice and helpful. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. I presume the gentlemen who delivered our food was either the owner or manager. Seemed like he was on top of his stuff. Cocktails were unique and tasted great. Food was delicious. We ordered the Caesar salad (my favorite/homemade dressing) and Mac and cheese to start. Then I ordered fried chicken ,which batter was a little overcooked but still juicy on the inside. My girlfriend ordered the Aubergine which she loved. Plenty for leftovers. Also treat yourself to a side of biscuits. One of the best I've ever had. After a terrific first visit, I'm hopeful that this new kid on the block will become a Bolton Hill favorite! My first impression when walking in was that the restaurant does an excellent job of honoring the personality of it's neighborhood. Tall ceilings, an industrial yet farm-to-table vibe with brown aprons all around, and open kitchen create a modern but approachable atmosphere--think hipster in the most welcoming of ways. The front of house and servers were friendly and attentive from the start. Our drinks were a bit slow to come out at the start, but understandable from a spot that seems to just now be getting into a rhythm following its opening. Everything we ordered hit the spot! I was curious to see how the biscuits would pair with the pimento cheese, and was pleasantly surprised with how well the flaky, buttery delights blended with the red pepper pimento to create a delicious bite. The vegetable medley was a flavorful, satisfying main. The moghrabieh was well-cooked, and the baharat seasoning stole the show with its overall complexity that built with each bite. The tilted burger, with its accompanying duck fat fries and harissa ketchup got top marks from the meat eater at the table as well. Looking forward to trying more of the menu next time! read more

Came here for a relaxing brunch on a Saturday morning around 11am-ish. Overall, just a wonderful neighborhood spot that I plan to keep coming back to! Beautiful interior and friendly staff. Location/Parking: Located in the Bolton Hill neighborhood, which is residential and calm - gorgeous autumn trees everywhere. Plenty of free street parking nearby. Food/Drink/Vegetarian options: I was really impressed with their menu. Starting with the drinks - the drink menu is delivered in sleek leather-bound booklet with pen drawings of different whiskey bottles. They have cocktails, mock-tails, and an extensive selection of whiskey and bourbon. It was early, so we went with the Row-Mosa, which featured elderflower liqueur and pink grapefruit. It was the perfect not-too-sweet brunch drink! The brunch menu includes the 'Snacks' and 'Small plates' portions of their dinner menu. I had a hard time deciding between the Olive Tapenade and the Moorish Eggplant but went with the tapenade - it was fabulous! The chimmichurri drizzle was incredibly flavorful and the goat cheese was not overbearing. For our main course, my fiancé ordered the Tilted Burger, which he really enjoyed. The duck fat fries were served with a curry-smokey ketchup which he didn't like but the fries themselves were good. I ordered the French Toast which was so decadent. I love that it's served as individual square pieces instead of large slabs of bread. The whipped cream was also amazing. It's definitely on the sweet side so I would recommend sharing it. They had enough vegetarian options on the menu, including a vegetarian omelette, parfait, and the Row Breakfast, which could easily be made vegetarian. Service: Friendly staff, good service! We had the Hangar steak w/ truffle mashed potatoes and jalapeño chimichurri and the Crab cakes with succotash - both were delicious and the sides were not neglected! We sampled the beers but heard the cocktails were out of this world. Received some nice complimentary sides and dessert for the opening. This place has everything it takes to be a fantastic restaurant. Gorgeous branding and interior design, attentive service, a great menu -- even an extensive selection of whiskey. I wanted to give the Tilted Row a glowing review for all these reasons, as well as the fact that it's a neighborhood spot. Unfortunately, during the two visits my wife and I have made we have both found the food to be consistently under seasoned/salted and bland. The food comes out looking beautiful but ends up tasting remarkably flavorless. It feels like a missed opportunity since everything else is in place for this restaurant to be excellent. In addition, the price is just too expensive for the lapse in quality to be excusable. The Tilted Row is still a relatively new restaurant and I think they have great potential. I hope they continue to make improvements, but I think my wife and I will be staying away for the time being. read more

Returned to the Tilted Row after a few months and had fantastic meal last night! Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen which really added to the experience. Highly recommend the shrimp crostini (appetizer) - that sauce!! Also watched lots of grilled octopus going out to tables which looked delicious. The attention to detail of every dish was impressive. I found this restaurant listed under, The 10 Best Restaurants in Baltimore. I beg to differ. Upon arrival we were seated and our waited promptly took our drink orders. We ordered starters and bread. The Pork Belly was cold and had to be sent back. We ordered two orders of biscuits and the waiter only bought one. Of course we made him aware and he corrected the issue quickly. After placing our orders for the main course. The waiter bought out Steak for my husband, Shrimp and Grits for my friend and two Cod fish dishes. I ordered the Cod but my brother had ordered Salmon. The waiter quickly took it back and shortly after the Salmon was bought out. You could clearly see the sear was rather dark but not burnt so my brother started his Salmon and after a couple of bites he noticed the Salmon wasn't cooked completely. He notified the waitress and she apologized but now my brother was being questioned as to whether or not he understood that the Salmon was cooked medium rare. We advised them that he didn't order his Salmon that way and never have we been to restaurant that sold medium rare Salmon. My brother ordered the Steak to replace the Salmon and the waitress bought it out to ask if he understood that the Steak would have some pinkness. Once again the issue was explained, to yet the third waiter. Whom immediately defended the fact that she was just told what to ask and to make sure the Steak was fine per the Chef. I waited for my brother to test the Steak and then ordered coffee. Our original waiter stayed in hiding so after about 10 minutes I asked the waitress about the coffee and she replied, the water needs to get hot. Then she goes in the back and comes out with the coffee. I add sugar to my cup and pour the luke warm coffee into the cup. Now the coffee was sent back. Our original waiter bought out hot coffee and we asked for our bill. The manager never came to the table nor did we ask for the manager. Because I'm sure the manager was well aware of the issues. We paid our $220 bill and added an 18% tip. The Tilted Row is beautiful, classy establishment with some staffing issues they need to handle and the limited menu leaves allot to be desired. I'm positive I won't be giving them a second chance to disappoint. A definite NO for us.​ read more
