***UPDATE*** The Ahi salad is now my new favorite. The Ahi is fresh and the salad is colorful and so full of flavor - I really enjoy the added touch with the edamame and green onions. I came by last night to check it out and I ordered the Thai salad for dinner and the Cobb salad for lunch to have today. I enjoyed the Cobb salad so much that I had to come back again. The cobb salad had so much flavor in every bite and tasted so fresh still, the very next day that it is now my favorite. I ordered the " Santorini" salad aka Greek salad today since it is the most ordered. Customer service is great - everyone is so pleasant and they'll come by at times while you wait with some samples of the acai or smoothie. I really like this new healthy food establishment. Most of these kinds of healthy salad places only exist on the Westside. Very happy to experience good tasting, fresh, and BIG salads here in such a diverse area like Gardena. Prices are consistent with Westside salad bars but that's okay. Taste wise, everything was excellent. From the smoothie to the fresh brewed drinks, and obviously the salads. Ordered ahi tuna salad for lunch. Taste good. 5mins into my meal, the black plastic fork broke one of its tine at 2 different places. I was able to spit out one but could not find the smaller piece. I did not finish the bowl and went to the counter and ordered a chicken salad. I informed them of the broken fork. I hav to explain the problem 2x. They took my payment for the second order and informed me they will call owner and report the incident. They served my 2nd order and reimbursed me for the first only after they informed me clearly that they do not normally reimburse and that this was first time a customer reported a brittle plastic fork. I was surprised they accepted my payment for my second order. Sad thing is I do not need the reimbursement. I was waiting for an apology. The thought of ingesting an inorganic object is a very uncomfortable lingering thought. I was able to eat only a third of my 2nd bowl and left quietly. The manager on station did not even approach me to check whether I was okay or not. The chicken salad was not good. They forgot to add/mix the dressing. I decided not to complain and simply left. If this was the first time it happened, the restaurant designated head or mgr for the day should have acted decisively instead of informing the customer they have to inform the owner first. read more

I like The Toss Up and will continue to support this establishment. However, I do think the Caesar Salad is extremely lackluster. I ended up throwing most of it away. Other than that, the first salad I had (I don't recall which one) was pretty good! The staff is pretty friendly and the music selection and TVs make for a good vibe. Give this place a try. read more

I've had a salad her and the portion is shareable between two people. The ingredients are fresh and the dressings are made in-house. I've had the clam chowder. THE BEST!! I've had a fresh juice and it was so refreshing. It's a small business so I love supporting our local businesses. Had the privilege of having a meal here. Quite extensive menu all healthy choices. (took me over 30 mins to order - couldn't decide) Fresh high quality food reasonably priced. Large portions (I ate 3 times off my salad). Laid back atmosphere...very welcoming, comfortable and cool vibe. Clean and beautifully appointed. Outstanding customer service and staff. I recommend the Texas Smokehouse salad and green tea (no sugar) totally refreshing. Clam Chowder was quite good too. My new guilt free dessert is the Acai Bowl (couldn't stop eating it)  The icing on the cake was seeing a classmate I hadn't seen in close to 50 years.  My only regret is that I wish I would have found this place sooner. Who knew a salad could be so good. Stopped by on a whim while in Gardena and I'm so glad I did. The owner walked me through the menu on arrival and offered samples of a variety of delicious items. Pleasantly surprised to have stumbled upon this Black owned, healthy establishment. Service was friendly. Restaurant was clean. I loved the R&B playing over the speakers. The Cobb Salad was really good with the honey mustard dressing. You will have to wait a little bit for your salad so try to order ahead. They estimated 45 minutes for my online order, though it was done when I walked in to pickup in 30 minutes. I ordered a smoothie along with my salad. I likely won't be getting my smoothies from here, as it was more like a frozen icey type drink than a creamy smoothie. We need more establishments like these around so I will continue to try new salads and potatoes while I'm charging my car across the street. I hope they are around a long time! read more

This place is amazing. The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are generous.The staff is courteous and pretty well informed. The owner, Rick is there is there every day and he loves talking to guests about the menu until you are confident in what you want. The salads, wraps and smoothies are all 10 out of 10. This place was delicioso!!!! They have a big menu ranging from salsa, pasta, wraps and smoothies. I ordered the Baja salad and a banana smoothie which came out to about $20 bucks with tip. The salad was a good portion was full half way but was too good to save. They have cute little booths and even a tv showing sports. It wasn't very busy when I was there during the week around 2pm. The gentleman making my smoothie and salad was kind enough to bring the food to me which was nice. I can see it getting very busy!!!! They had many options for the salads ranging from vegan to a bbq style salad or you can even make your own salad, kinda like chipotle. They have huge parking but share it with other businesses. Great customer service, great food. On our first visit, I got the chicken pesto pasta and my brother got the dreamy vegan salad. The pesto was very flavorful and automatically landed in one of my favorite dishes. The dreamy vegan was on point. Felt so inviting when my brother and I first visited. My friend wanted something healthy for dinner and she said this restaurant was new and wanted to give it a try. I am not one that likes to try brand new restaurants but, the pictures made me want to give it at try. When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by everyone and the attendant at the front went down the entire menu when we arrived at the register. The owner came out from the back of the restaurant and provided more insight on the menu. He also gave us samples for their homemade juice and acai bowls. The acai and juice were amazing! We decided to order the Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap and the Texas Smokehouse Wrap. What I really enjoyed is that you can make any salad into a wrap. Onto the food, they packed the wrap!! My chicken Caesar Salad wrap was very filling and really good. It had flavor and they made sure to give you enough to fill you up or so you can have some for the next day. I tried my friends Texas Smokehouse Wrap and it was also very delicious. They make everything fresh so don't expect it to come out extremely quickly. But, I feel when things are rushed that means that it might not be good. As usual, I checked the bathrooms and they were clean and tidy. True hospitality! This evening I visited The Toss Up after Googling "Healthy Food Near Me" as I was in an unfamiliar area. I am so happy I did! Upon arrival, I was greeted by all the staff (whom all had smiles and felt genuine/not forced) in addition to the owner personally welcoming me. He was very kind and informative and reviewed the entire menu with me. I ordered two build your own salads, a strawberry banana smoothie (with almond milk) and a sparkling water. I shared with him that I too have been in hospitality management and we had a nice chat while my order was being prepared. He even offered a small sample of their tomato soup which was AMAZING. I am definitely ordering it during my next visit. The restaurant was clean, all the staff were so kind, and everything in the menu looked delicious. My food came out looking just like the salads on the menu online; bowls packed to the top and with fresh ingredients. The website does not work properly and won't accept orders. We tried to call in an order, and the phone rang continuously. So i gave up. Had to drive up and wait till everything was prepared. The second time we attempted to eat here, my husband tried the website, but it's still not fixed.He called and got thru, and they asked for credit card information and code on the card? No, thank you. That is a security issue. Please fix the website and make ordering easier. We were limited on time so we had to choose a different place to eat.
