Savvy G.

This place is a must try!! I have been 3 times is the past week, and I enjoyed it every time. My family ordered different salads which were all enjoyable! We had "The Buff N Cluck", "Santorini", "Chicken Caesar Salad", and the "Beef Stro" salads. The baked potato is amazing! I got the chili cheese baked potato with added bacon and steak and omg it was great and so full of flavor. I got the piña colada smoothie and it was so delicious, as are the other ones I've tried in the past. I was able to sample the soups and the chili and all of them are delicious. My favorite might be either the broccoli & cheddar or the chicken tortilla. I sampled the juices as well and they all taste fresh and delicious. They're all organic! My new favorite is the mandarin. I tried their açaí and it is also really good! I'll definitely be back to get an actual açaí bowl soon. This place is always clean, including the bathroom. Great customer service as always, and nice to dine in. Thank you! 10/10 I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

I can't believe I've missed out frequenting this spot. Fresh, tasty and so many choices. A perfect salad, soup and baked potato restaurant. I got the chicken Waldorf salad which needed a little more dressing but it was good. The clam chowder was delicious. We were given samples of other soups and all were very delicious. I believe they make everything in house.

Food is always fresh. Healthy ingredients that make you feel good. Customer service is always wonderful. The staff always greets you and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. The restaurant is clean, bright and comfortable.

Green Smoothie & Pina colada/strawberry smoothie

For a $10 smoothie (LG) $7 (reg) with limited smoothie options I was expecting something super yummy. My group and I were in the area and saw smoothies advertised outside, we swung by and thought our drinks were a little too sweet and not as fresh/tropical as we expected (I know, it's more of a food spot nor a tropical food spot) but a girl can dream! My friends green drink was okay, she got the regular size and ended up throwing away the last of it. lots of seating and no wait. Great customer service from the gentleman in the front & menu options! I'd come back to try the food options but skip the smoothie.

Rick, the owner and all of his employees , were incredibly kind and welcoming! He offered me free soup samples, which was really thoughtful, and he made the whole experience feel very welcoming and friendly. His customer service was amazing, and you can genuinely tell that he cares about his customers and the experience they have. I really appreciated his kindness and generosity. Thank you to the employees aswell :) Definitely a great owner and someone who makes you want to come back! Highly recommend Toss Up!

Walking into The Toss Up for the first time to a warm greeting by owner Rick and teamsters. Food and drinks are amazing. Lots of flavor in this healthy comfort food. Now one of my go-to spots when I return home to visit.

Maya D.

Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in explaining the menu since it was our first time. I love the idea of a fast casual eatery that has healthy options. And I don't think I've seen another place in the area that has big baked potatoes on their menu! The food was tasty, the space was clean and I loved that they were playing 90s/2000s R&B videos on the screen. No issue parking in the adjacent lot when we arrived, but I could see it getting a bit busy during lunch times with other restaurants in the same plaza. Looking forward to coming back!

When you're in the mood for something healthy yet tasty, The Toss Up has been my go-to for salads! They have a good variety of set options or you can build your own. My favorite is their Baja Salad. It comes with romaine, mixed greens, corn, black beans, red onion, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, cheddar cheese, tortilla strips, and grilled chicken. I appreciate the variety of fresh ingredients in this salad! It usually comes with a spicy jalapeno dressing, but I prefer their BBQ Ranch. "The Toss Up" Cobb is pretty good as well. This one has romaine, cherry tomatoes, avocado, hard boiled egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, roast turkey, bacon, and red onions. All of their salads come with a piece of flat bread. too. Their pre-set salads are definitely a better deal than if you try to select each ingredient when you build your own bowl. Another thing I like about The Toss Up is they have other pasta, baked potato, and soup options in case you feel like you need something extra on top of a salad. We tried their Loaded Baked Potato Bowl and their Cheddar Broccoli Baked Potato Bowl, and they were HUGE! Definitely good for sharing. We usually order online ahead of time, and the estimated wait time always seems oddly long, but sometimes when we get to the restaurant, there aren't too many people there. Not sure if the estimated pick up time system needs to be calibrated?

Dalia J.

My Mistake! You ever go to a restaurant and they do things sooo good/right you realize you judged them against previous *meh* experiences? Well, that's what I realized today. I stopped in to pick up lunch for myself and my family. I ordered two shrimp alfredos and two cesar salads. I always get my salads with the dressing mixed in. I'm used to places having watery dressing with barely any flavor so I just assumed The Toss Up would kinda be the same, especially because this is a cesar dressing (and yes, I've been here before to dine in and got the dressing mixed in then too, to the Thai salad). By the time I got home (after making a stop), my salad had wilted a bit and my croutons were not as chrunchy. I'm not mad about it because THE FLAVOR!!!!! OMG!!! this cesar dressing is amazing! Creamy, sumptuous, heavy in the best way possible. Every bite of lettuce, parmesan cheese, chicken, and crouton had dressing on it. And I even ordered an extra dressing! As always, service was great. Such friendly, chatty, kind folks work here. Expect to be greeted when you walk in and get a friendly "bye, see you later" when you leave. BTW, my family loved their food, "delicious" is what they said :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This might be a Yelp thing or a me thing but the review above erased my previous review. I was in to The Toss Up on Friday, June 13 and had a great experience. The Thai salad was so flavorful and full of everything fresh and crunchy--veggies and peanuts. We were greeted warmly by the owner who explained the menu to us in detail. My friend and I split the spaghetti and meatballs and I can't recall the last time I had pasta this good. This first experience was just soooo positive it's why I came back. I wanted another delicious meal and wanted my family to know what I've been raving about.

Up close and personal ‍ Thick, rich, and loaded with flavor. Every spoonful hitting, no shortcuts

I finally had time to sit down and do this review I've ordered from them a couple of times after my daughters told me about the place - and let me tell you... The Toss Up! They always Boss Up! Let's start with the packaging - because presentation begins before the first bite. It's like trying to get into Fort Knox You literally have to cut your way in, and I LOVE that. It guarantees your food is sealed, fresh, and not tampered with. Now let's talk about the food... whew! Whether it's their fresh, delicious salads or these humongous, fully loaded potatoes, the quality is always on point. Everything is flavorful, well-seasoned, and made with care. And that chili?! I don't know if it's homemade, but it definitely tastes like it. And if it's not - keep doctoring it up, because it is DELICIOUS! Rich, hearty, and full of flavor. Thank you, The Toss Up! Because like JJ would say... well, if you know, you know; DY-NO-MITE!

On this grey So Cal day I was feeling too lazy to make my own salad. I was hungry, my bestie had time to spare so we headed to The Toss Up for a soup and salad lunch. I love when I'm greeted upon entering a restaurant, it's an acknowledgement that creates a positive experience right from the start. We approached the counter and placed our orders. Simple, straight forward and despite a tiny error that was easily fixed, the process was painless. Our salads, soups and beverages arrived and we dug in. My Baja salad was super yummy - the creamy jalapeño dressing was so good - it has a kick and I loved it. Her Santorini salad was equally yummy and both of us agreed we'd order them again. The broccoli cheddar soups were hot and tasty and we loved that the cheddar tasted authentic - not one of those afterthought soups thrown on a menu to check a box. The chunks of broccoli were perfect in size and the only thing I would have liked to have was a sprinkling of pepper. The service was superb. Friendly and personable which makes the experience even better. These days I don't mind paying more for food if the service is top notch. Would have liked the soda to be accessible for refills. You're given a plastic lid to cover your bowl for leftovers - we didn't have anything to take home, so the lids went unused and became waste. Overall, the menu is loaded with options and coupled with the service, I would visit again. Oh! Almost forgot to mention the R&B music playing in the background! That made the visit memorable. Keep on, keeping on The Toss Up!

Here is the description of the Dreamy Vegan Salad

Evan W.

Incredible!!! My friend and I came here for a healthier option after a day at the theme parks, and this did not disappointed! We were greeted with incredible customer service, and were showered with samples. I ultimately had the Dreamy Vegan, and he built his own salad, but wow!! The size of our salads, and the protein, as well as the dressings, absolutely delicious. I also got to try the broccoli cheddar and tomato soup, and both were bursting with the most delicious flavors! The restaurant was clean, and such a fun atmosphere to spend some time hanging out after a great day! DO NOT SKIP THIS WONDERFUL PLACE!

Southwest Beef Southwest Beef and Bean Bowl with hardly any meat and super mushy rice. Flavor was not good.

Ernie G.

I've been here a few times. I like to support smaller businesses anytime I can, however, I think today might be my last time coming here. My wife ordered the Southwest Beef Bowl. The first issue was the how small the portion was for the bowl and also the amount of meat that was in it. It literally had maybe about 8-10 small cubes of beef and the rest being rice, which also was very mushy and not pleasant to eat. Secondly, the seasoning on their items lack quite a bit, especially the meatballs in their spaghetti. They are just so bland and the meat also has a very odd texture to it. Not exactly sure what they do to it, but it's not good. And this was the second time I've ordered that meal. The salads are pretty decent to good. I've had their Baja Salad and the Texas Smokehouse and they came out pretty good and also a good portion. I tried their "wraps" but really they are just burrito salads with them using a flour tortilla vs a real pita wrap. Not the end of the world, but using flour tortillas makes the wraps taste different and have more tendency of breaking apart easier when eating. I think from now on, I'll just go to Simply Salad down the street as their food is always good and portions are consistent.

Fresh food with a touch of comfort like mom's kitchen. Everything is good but I especially love the loaded baked potato bowl and the spaghetti and meatballs--better than most Italian restaurants! Their marinara sauce is flavorful, not sour like some places. Salads are fresh with good dressing. Staff is always nice and friendly, they always give kids rice crispy treats. Came in late on a Monday night after seeing this place named one of the best restaurants in Gardena by a realtor on Tik Tok. My friend and I were happy to see it was black-owned. Beautiful interior design and even more beautiful black faces as soon as we hit the door! The owner and his staff were really nice and welcoming. He gave us a full run-down of the menu and even gave us samples of their juices. We ordered a BYOS (Build your own salad), Chicken Ceasar Wrap and Berry Patch drink. It was a little pricey but expected with inflation. My salad was DELICIOUS! The chicken was seasoned and moist which can make or break your salad. My friend enjoyed his wrap as well. 10/10 - would recommend! read more

Amazing customer service!!! Hands down would highly recommend if you want to sample before you buy. Family owned, homey, yet sophisticated dining. Great spot for lunch if you need to utilize your laptop while eating. Great staff, fresh and organic. They have their signature house salads/wraps and then there is all the possibilities of make your own salad. Homemade daily fresh juices (bomb). I tried two while I was there ... yummy. They have açaí bowls, smoothies and more... I'm definitely going back to try everything else. I got the chicken Cesar salad and it was really good and just enough chicken and the lettuce was chopped to perfection without the "middle" pieces... I APPRECIATE THAT!! Please support this business, we need more businesses like this. Thank you Toss up for making me feel at home when I walked through your doors! read more

The Cesar salad lettuce was very crunchy just how I love it and the cheese is my favorite. It was only $11 which I feel like is fair for the portion. I visited the Grand Opening at the beginning of October, and was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the vast selection on the menu. I was happy to see that it is not another typical sandwich or fried chicken establishment, but more on the health conscience side. Not only did I enjoy my selection, I also enjoyed the ambiance. I was welcomed and given a run down of the menu, I even got a taste of some of their aguas frescas. It definitely made me want to come back and give them a try when I'm not working! :) read more

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience warrants one:…read more Of all the Beach Bowls locations I've visited, this has consistently been the slowest and most disappointing when it comes to both order preparation and customer service. I've been here three times, and each visit has fallen well short of the experience provided by other nearby locations. The staff often seemed disengaged and gave off the impression that they wanted us to hurry up and order. Most recently, I ordered a simple mini Pitaya bowl and a smoothie. After waiting more than 15 minutes and watching several customers who ordered after us receive their food first, I had to ask about the status of my order. We discover our order was just sitting there on a side table. No one had announced our order whatsoever. What made the delay even more frustrating was that we had frozen groceries in the car that needed to be taken home. Despite living less than half a mile away, we'll gladly make the longer drive to another Beach Bowls location in the future for better service and a more enjoyable experience.

No more cherry acai for me. I did have granola so that was not what caused the problem I experienced before. I can confidently keep ordering my bowls here now. I'm really glad I don't need to switch shops because the location is convenient and I liked everything about my previous orders except those irritating bits of miniature concrete I kept chewing on when I ordered the bowls with cherry. If you enjoy keeping your teeth whole, you might also want to bypass that particular flavor.

But honestly, that's part of the charm. It's like Gardena's version of a speakeasy... except instead of cocktails, you're sneaking in for a fat Italian sandwich. Let me tell you, my Pop's Italian sandwich came out looking like it was sexy and ready to be destroyed. All grown. Mature. Responsible. If you're looking for a spot that's casual, clean, and gives you that sports‑bar‑but-make-it-chill vibe, The Toss Up in Gardena is exactly that. TVs on, energy relaxed, and the kind of place where you can walk in looking like you just survived a weekend of bad decisions. It's got that friendly neighborhood sports‑bar feel, bright, tidy, and comfortable without trying too hard. You can actually hear yourself think, which is great because I needed a quiet moment to reflect on all the carbs I inhaled over the weekend. The Toss Up feels like a reset button disguised as a restaurant. Service is quick, welcoming, and on point. They greet you like they already know you're here to make better choices today. No judgment, just vibes and efficiency. Now let's talk about my chicken salad, aka my attempt at redemption. Fresh greens, juicy chicken, and enough flavor to make me forget I wasn't eating fries. It's satisfying without being heavy, the kind of salad that makes you feel like you're doing something responsible for your body, even if your body is still processing Saturday night. I took one bite and thought, "Wow... maybe I can turn my life around." Second bite: "Okay, maybe not today, but this salad is a good start." Listen, after eating like a raccoon in a trash can all weekend, this chicken salad felt like a spiritual cleanse. I swear my stomach whispered, "Thank you, bro." If salads had Yelp accounts, this one would leave me a five‑star review for finally behaving. Miguel read more

Title: A Gem in LA - Toss-Up! Review: A visit to Toss-Up was a delightful experience from start to finish! The Thai tuna bowl, with a shrimp substitution, was a flavor explosion, and the berry juice drink hit the spot - fresh, not overly sweet, just perfect! The environment is spotlessly clean, sleek, cute, and modern, creating a wonderful atmosphere for a meal. I absolutely recommend experiencing the wonders of this fantastic restaurant. Needless to say, I'll be coming back for more. One standout feature is their diverse menu options that cater to all diets. It's evident that Toss-Up considers every guest's preferences, ensuring a satisfying dining experience for everyone. In addition to the great food and welcoming atmosphere, the exceptional service and hospitality elevate the overall experience. Portion sizes are generous, guaranteeing you won't leave hungry. The food at this restaurant is not only healthy, but also delicious. The customer service is exceptional, thanks to the owner Rick who is always welcoming and full of positive energy. The menu offers a variety of options including salads, soups, and wraps, and I highly recommend trying the build-your-own salad with fresh greens, cilantro, peppers, and sauteed mushrooms with salmon. The portion of salmon was generous and the flavor was amazing. There are also a variety of tasty dressings to choose from. But the best part was when Rick let my friend and I taste his chili, tortilla, and clam chowder soups, which were all unique and delicious in their own way. The tortilla soup had just the right amount of spice and all the soups had a rich and flavorful taste. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant with friends and family, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a healthy and enjoyable dining experience. Thank you, Rick, for your friendly staff and amazing energy that make this place a must-visit! read more

I had an incredible experience at TossUp, and I just have to share how amazing the customer service is! The next day, I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, who was equally kind. He even let me sample the dressings to find my favorite and offered a taste of the soup, which was a nice touch. What I love about TossUp is that they offer more than just salads--they have delicious potatoes, pasta, and smoothies as well. The food itself was fantastic! As you can see from the picture, everything is beautifully prepared, with fresh ingredients chopped perfectly for easy eating. It's not a fast food restaurant so they do make the food to order, which is great. The owners Joseph and Young are such sweet human beings. The restaurant is their next endeavor in life and they've made the most of it. You can't help but wish them a lot of luck and hope their restaurant succeeds. Their hours of operation is very limited because they use the down time to prepare for the following week. They have low overhead, which means they are able to offer their meals at an affordable price and the quantity is bigger than most. We came here on the one Saturday they are open per month and there were lots of regulars here already. We wait a little while and got to know the owners a little more. We will be coming back to support this mom and pop.

I was just telling my husband how the quality of food at fast food and chain restaurants has drastically declined. Coming here was a taste of fresh air. The cali burrito, house made chips and smash burger were all fantastic, flavorful, not overly salty and fresh tasting. All their foods, sauces and dressings are made in house. Even their cookies and drip coffee are delicious and made in house. So glad we have found a new lunch spot. They apparently also have taco tuesdays and pizza thursdays, so we'll gladly be coming back.

I can confidently say i have tried nearly everything in the menu except for the tuna melt. I love that they upgrade their menu every few months because it never gets boring. The staff has always been extremely friendly since day 1. My favorite item on the menu would have to be the breakfast tacos. The food is always loaded never skimpy which is a plus. Definitely always try to recommend to everyone :)

I can't speak to the tacos sold at a place that does drinks as I haven't tried them, but I can say the following: Ambiance (3/5): Small but cute, they don't skimp on AC even as it's a sunny little shop. Great for studying if you're able to nab a seat; they have three tables that seat 4 (maybe 5 if you bunch up on the bench). The natural lighting makes it pretty nice to so some work in there. They have an extension cord with multiple outlets tucked in the corner under the corner table. Service (4/5): Server was friendly and quick. I'm glad he asked if regular milk was okay because it reminded me that it's not for my husband. It's a small thing but it's appreciated! I also loved the little surprise of getting some extra smoothie in a small cup, perfect for my daughter. Why can't other shops be like this? Appreciate it! Drink (4/5): The strawberry banana smoothies tasted fresh. Real fruit bits and not overly sweet or artificial tasting. My husband and I both noted that it had great flavor. My only gripe was that it was still a bit icy; it was hard at times sucking the smoothie out of the boba straw we used. If it were blended fully and smoothly, I would say it would be near perfect. Would we come back? Based on this experience, if we need a quick stop for a drink before the freeway, this makes for a good stop. I wouldn't mind trying out one of their match drinks next time (those look pretty good)!
