My daughter and I were looking forward to eating here but the "angry with life" waitress ruined it. Tiny waiting area. No room to wait. Have to continually shuffle for customers exiting and leaving. Waited for 5 minutes, then politely asked waitress if my name could be put on list. She was very annoyed that I even asked and told me "I'm busy, in a bit," then she abruptly walked away. The place is tiny and I'd have to move continually for customers exiting and entering. Waited another 5 minutes then she gruffly asked me the number of my party. I said 2 and she turned and walked away. No estimates- nothing. Wanted to wait outside (was tired of shuffling around) so just wanted to know how long it might be. I waited another 5 minutes and then politely, kindly asked her an estimate so I could wait outside, which only helps the restaurant and it's patrons. She very angrily said "I don't know and could you stop bothering me?!?!" Other customers waiting were shocked, as was I. We promptly left. This place has so much potential. Sadly, the interior of the restaurant has been neglected and desperately needs a paint job. Could be a magical eating experience there- but it's so run down. And sadly, at 10 am in the morning, this waitress was also very run down and hating her job/life. read more

Just had breakfast here for the second time and probably the last.. Ordered eggs beni $14 comes with nothing, side of potatoes $6.50. Beni was tasteless, soggy muffin, ham was boiled, no flavor on the hollandaise. Potatoes again no flavor, server never even asked how every was. My fiancé and I were staying in the area and asked the hotel staff about a good breakfast place and this place was suggested. The seating for this place is quiet small on the inside, but there is plenty of seating outside on the deck for those interested. My fiancé and I both ordered an eggs Benedict which was absolutely delicious! It was made excellently and the sauce on top was great. I also ordered a fruit salad to go along with my meal. For drinks my fiancé ordered a Bloody Mary extra spicy and I a breakfast margarita lol. Let me tell you, both were extremely strong so be careful lol! An adorable spot with sweet outdoor seating. It's one of the fairy tale cottages in town! The staff was talking loudly about not getting vaccinated, so I was only comfortable sitting outside. Try the homemade preserves and marmalades. Definitely the berry margarita! Service is slow, even with a less than 50% capacity. Observed the servers on their phones and chatting and having coffee. My guest and I had to get up twice to find them. Once to order food for a guest that joined me later on, and once to get the check. A very cute quaint little place. We came around 11 on Tuesday and got right in. The waitress was very sweet, and filled the Hubbys water several times. Not a normal scone more like a toast cornbread texture but sweet, and not corn bread. They brought out homemade marmalade and whip cream. I loved the berry one and my hubby loved the orange one, so it worked out perfect. Waiting to be seated is part of eating out. However standing there for considerable time and not being acknowledged is difficult because I know I'm about to pay a premium for breakfast. After sitting down we were left with just menus and no offer of coffee which.. should be an obvious thing to ask. After waiting again for 10 minutes and no acknowledgment or offers for a beverage while we wait... we left. I came back 6 months later and... had the same experience. I was just about to leave again and the server came up just in time. I ordered. Food was good. Breakfast is hard to screw up, some places manage to do so, this place did not. So the food was well prepared and fast. It only takes a split second to say 'we'll be right with you'. It buys considerable time when seating a customer and saying 'can we get you started with some coffee'. It is important to check back at least once after bringing out the food. These are just basic skills this staff have not displayed 2 times in a row. I'm giving this place 2 stars and will come back in another 3 months to see if they have upped their service to match today's 'let's eat out' prices. Stay tuned... read more

Stayed in town the past weekend. We always wanted to try this quaint place but you know how it goes.... I always revisit the same places. This time we went to Tuck Box. Its a very cute place, nice ambiance which is very important to the dining experience. We were seated pretty fast, as they were very busy and had people dining outside as well. I ordered all sides - eggs, scone, fresh fruit and coffee. I usually or a dish, but just wanted to mix it up this morning. Our meal came out pretty fast considering they were busy and it was prime time 11am. I wish I took pictures but didn't think about it till later. The test for me is medium eggs and these were cooked perfectly, and garnished with a orange slice twist. The fruit dish was all fresh sliced fruit in bite size pieces. The scone was delicious - yet different from your average scone. Everything was great, except the coffee was very weak. My husband ordered the waffle with a side of bacon. The waffle was fresh and soft and delivered still warm. The bacon was perfectly cooked and my husband enjoyed his meal. We loved our experience and can't wait to go back. read more

I have never been so disgusted in my life. The first thing I noticed was the "cash only" sign. I assumed the credit card machine was down and walked the three blocks to the ATM. After I was seated with my family I noticed the server wearing a "recall Newsom" pin. A few moments later I noticed a flyer posted in the window. The flyer listed reasons to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom. The reasons we a bunch of racist misinformation about immigrants, hatred for California taxes, and the COVID19 pandemic (which the flyer called the Chinese Coronavirus). When my bill arrived it was inflated. Which is to be expected considering the cost of overhead in the area. The part that surprised me that there was no credit card machine. As a restaurant owner I can confidently say that the only reason for a cash only cafe is to avoid paying taxes. Additionally, if the owner is so against immigrants it seems odd that they would employ one. I guess it's ok if they provide you cheap labor but they aren't entitled to any quality of life. I was just trying to have breakfast. I would have appreciated not being served with a side of hateful, ignorant, garbage. read more

We've walked & driven by this little cafe for years but just recently stopped in for a breakfast. It was mid morning & the crowd had started to dwindle. We had a short wait before we were seated at a cozy table for two inside the charming cottage styled interior of this cafe. We ordered coffee & tea as we looked over the menu. My wife was thrilled that they serve loose leaf breakfast tea in a teapot at table side. We ordered the ham & cheese omelette with house made scones. Although not the scones we were familiar with in the UK, these scones were very nice especially when served with clotted cream & fresh jam. Came by for a late lunch on Saturday (~1pm) and there were still a few patrons. We needed an outside table since we had a dog and thankfully they had one open for the five of us. There wasn't much shade so it quite hot in the sun. They saw we had a beach umbrella and said we could use it if we wanted to but it was too hard to balance. I ordered the plain omelette (glad they still offer their omelettes on the lunch menu). It came with four pieces of their homemade scones (or you can get toast or English muffin). The scones had a corn bread like texture and you could put olloliberry jam or marmalade or cream on them. The plain omelette was very fluffy and a good amount. For 9.95, it was a pretty good meal. How is this place even in business still?! They show complete disregard for county regulations. Really disorganized place. Server rudely cut me off in the middle of my sentence. She was also wearing her mask incorrectly, with her nose fully exposed. I didn't notice until we will fully settled down in our seats with our young child who was hungry, otherwise we would have left. I heard the server boasting loudly to other patrons that another patron was bothered by the server wearing her mask incorrectly and she indignantly told the patron they could leave. When we were done with our meal, I asked for the server for our check and saw her walk off and immediately continue gossiping with other patrons (loudly). She didn't go grab our check. We eventually had to flag down the busser. I would never return to this place. Can you imagine what other rules they are breaking? I would have written a note to the owner, but after reading recent reviews it uncovered the bottom line for the management/owner. Food was fine, nothing special......like any other omlete.... Pretty good. Had a few variations of eggs Benedict here. Very tasty. English muffins they used didn't seem to be sourdough - which might be a plus or a minus depending on whether you like sourdough. Coffee was very good. Didn't have waffles but they looked good visually from other patrons. Service was pretty good - but not outstanding. Overall this is about a 3.5 star place in my opinion. This is a small four table outdoor dining restaurant with descent options and great service. It's across the street from the famous La Bicicleta. My family and I came here for brunch on a weekday morning. The prices are on par with Carmel restaurants. The beer selection is good. My wife had the eggs benedict which were outstanding. I'm a little upset seeing all these negative reviews. On our last day in Carmel we decide to have breakfast here after passing by and seeing this nice little cafe. Kristy who was our waitress was a very sweet lady, she seated us very quickly and took our orders right away. I got the California Benedict and waffles, it was absolutely amazing. I usually don't eat breakfast ever, but since I was on vacation I did and oh my this place has the most delicious breakfast. Service was on point, thank you again. This place is a rip off. It is cash only, and they also tack on a 20% tip to boot. We paid $106 for 4 eggs benedicts, 3 tiny cups of coffee, and an orange juice. The waitress was standoffish. I am so sad that I did not read all the reviews before - take heed if you value your hard earned money - they are just trying to see how far of a sucker they can take people for. Tips should be optional and if you are going to charge that much then you should be accepting credit cards. Greedy people - trying to make all their money by just doing breakfast and lunch. I so regret going to this place - makes me sick to know I wasted my hard earned money in this way - next time I will read the reviews before. I usually only write good reviews but now I will pay more attention to the bad ones myself since now that I read them they reflect our experience too. First time visit, New Year Day for breakfast. Was able to be seated quickly and had a friendly waitress. Ordered a 2 egg ham omelet with wheat toast and a side order of potatoes. Wife ordered scrambled eggs with a home made scone. Our orders arrived fairly quickly. Disappointed with the extremely small amount of sliced ham pieces put inside the folded omelet probably the equivalent of 1 slice ham. The small side order of potatoes were tasty but exorbitantly priced at $7. The scone was tasty but more like a cornbread texture. We got 2 small dishes of orange marmalade and blackberry jam for the scone and toast. They do give you a whole pot of tea but they need to put more loose tea in there otherwise it's way to weak. Overall was just ok, probably helped by us being hungry, but a little pricey. Note that this place only takes cash. And always remember when you are hungry everything tastes wonderful. :) read more
