In one month we went there twice . I believe in second chance , but there won't be any more . First time it was just 2 people for dinner , food was good but service was terrible. Second time we went with friends from out of state and some from out of country. What a disappointment in customer service . Food was good again but our server was even worse then first time . It's like they don't care if we have drinks or water or if we need refill on beer or order more food or dessert. Is manager of this restaurant hires people who has no experience and never worked in restaurant business? I will never go back to this place and will not recommend this place to anyone. I have heard nice things about this restaurant so decided to go there last night with another couple. We skipped on appetizers and we went straight for the meal. I had the bang bang shrimp for my entree which was on the appetizer menu and was no disappointed, it was delicious, I'm still thinking about it. The couple had the lobster, Mac & Cheese grilled sandwich which came with fried sliced potatoes and a cup of tomato bisque. They both enjoyed it and it was presented on 1 plate, it was very nice! I was invited to have brunch with my family. This was my first visit (definitely not my last). Our server was Tamara and when you go ask for her table. She has a beautiful personality and she make sure you are taken care of. She was on it! She offered suggestions with it being our first visit and gave up tips. The manager Nadia was also great! She was highly involved with her customers and moving around on the floor. I have a special appreciation for that because it's rare. This type of amazing service goes a long way and sets the tone for the restaurant. Now the food! Yessss the food!! There was many different plates at my table and everyone raves about how good their food was. I personally had the lobster omelette and it was delicious! It was huge as well so you are truly getting your money worth out of it! The lobster was thickly packed in with a slight sweet taste. The other ingredients didn't over power the taste of the lobster. I was able to taste everything and enjoy it. Everything was super pleasant and nice! I highly recommend this restaurant! The ambiance and culture is very welcoming! I last went over a year ago and liked the pace of the service. Attentive but not intrusive. They had some interesting spins on traditional offerings as well as fresh, inspired dishes that made me step outside of my comfort zone, unlike other restaurants. The food was delicious then. UPDATE: I heard it is now much more casual, and, of course, the usual comfort food is now served, but I can get that elsewhere at a much cheaper price. It would make me sad to go there now. A year ago, the ambiance was what I came for! It was exceedingly elegant like the best steakhouses in Houston yet comfortable. It's a place you'll want to get classy for, which led to this complaint. Went out for lunch on my own and decided to try someplace new. I had heard good things about Urban Kitchen so when I noticed one was near my office, I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I noticed the ambience was a little nicer than I was expecting for my usual casual solo lunch but I was greeted promptly by a very friendly hostess who sat me at a table for two in a partially secluded corner so it was not quite so awkward as being the only lone diner at a 4-top in the middle of a room full of business lunch meetings. The atmosphere is quite nice. I would definitely bring business associates here for lunch or come for a nice date night. Within moments of being seated, my server was at my table to take my drink order and shortly afterwards, the manager came out to welcome me and introduce herself. I was very impressed with the service. The menu had a broad range of options, some quite familiar like pizzas and salads and some a little more adventurous. I opted for one of the more adventurous options off of the lunch menu, the Macadamia Crusted Chicken with Pineapple Salsa and a Banana Rum Cream sauce. It was really good. If you don't like the combination of sweet and savory for a main dish, it might not be your thing, but I do enjoy them and this one worked really well. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a nice crunchy outer layer of macadamia and very juicy and tender inside. It was served on a bed of jasmine rice and topped with diced pineapple and carrot and the banana rum cream sauce. The banana flavor was subtle and offset nicely by the pineapple. I will definitely come back here for dinner sometime because they appear to have a nice selection of wines as well. read more

We came here to try their restaurant week menu right after Harvey and it turns out they didn't extend their Restaurant week into the month of September like many other restaurants un Houston area did. I ended up just ordering a grilled chicken and avocado sandwich and my buddy chose the crab cakes as appetizer and macadamia crusted chicken. My sandwich, as recommended by the server, was pretty good, just priced a little higher than I usually pay. My buddy complained that his crab cakes were way too mushy, and his entree had a weird taste to it. Doubt we will ever be back since it's a little pricy and a little too fancy for a quick lunch, a litter too fancy. It's also a little too far from my work. read more

I had an extremely long layover at the Houston airport and Yelp led me here. I got the chilaquillas and bottomless mimosas. The mimosas really are bottomless (although I didn't see it advertised, it does exist). They are strong and plentiful. The chilaquillas were pretty good, but not phenomenal. I added salt and they were more my speed. What was phenomenal?? The service. All the staff were in it to win it. They engaged with me, made sure I was taken care of and didn't take that approach "it's not my job". There was a woman with short blonde hair cracking the whip and keeping everyone in line. I even mentioned to her that she was taking care of business. The cute, young blonde haired bartender was attentive and very service oriented. He did a great job. All and all a fantastic experience. I love union kitchen it's nice to dine with ambiance so close to home. It's far from fine dining but with excellent tentative service and good quality of the food they produce out the kitchen. I've been here several times it never fails me, every time comes out good. Some of my favorite dishes are the union meatloaf, Tyler chicken pasta, I've had my wedding dinner here with several family members in one of their private rooms and I was able to customize my menu for the evening, that was real cool. The only thing I don't like about the place is when they participate in the hrw the menu seems to be a bit cheesy and also the house bread and butter has changed twice since the place open and its just bland at the moment. This is by far one of the best experiences I have received from a restauran in Texas..My fiance had previously visited the restaurant solo and wanted to take me due to the great food and customer service he had received. We had went on Saturday and it was a lil busy so we decided to sit at the bar where we were immediately greeted and waited upon by Caleb. I had ordered I believe the Union special and he ordered the pancakes all of which were delicious and were brought in a timely manner. The staff made sure his coffee cup wasn't without to long and claudia even poured our mimosa when we had empty glasses. We came here for a group dinner. There were about 22-25 people and we had a private room. The Chicken Tortilla soup appetizer was Outstanding!! I would gladly order it again and could make a meal out just that if they came in a larger portion. Unfortunately I did not have the same success with my main course. I ordered the 12 oz New York Strip Medium Rare, and unfortunately it came back well done. Another person on my table of 8 had the same exact issue, while two others came out the way they ordered it. I know it's tougher with groups as they bring out food at the same time but still it wasn't the way I wanted and ordered. As a result my steak was a bit tough and not juicy, Also, the meal came out warm not hot. I found the food service on the slow side also (it took a long time for the main meal and desert to be served). Made a visit to this wonderful establishment for a date night, and glad we did. The food was amazing (scallops a lil over seasoned) the restaurant itself had an intimate setting. Raul was our waitress , big ups to him for being so attentive. I believe the restaurant manager came and checked on us giving us a warm feeling and small conversation. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the intital greeting, the host seemed like she was afraid of us. She didn't make eye contact my husband thanked her and she just turned her head. Very nice interior. Had brunch on Saturday and thought it was just OK, but really should have been better. Expected more given the price point. Pretty sure we were there post-rush and the service was slowwwwww. Brought out drinks first, with OJ that tasted like low grade grocery store product. Eventually (20-25 minutes?) some mini corn muffins were brought out. At about 45 minutes after ordering, our orders came out. Had a hangover-something burger that quite simply didn't match the description. Asked the waiter about it, he said it was right. 10 minutes later the manager (I think) brought by some onion rings and said it should have been served with those. Manager had helped serve and asked if we needed anything. Asked for ketchup and cholula. Never saw her or the server again- had to get up and ask the server. The only time service was prompt was when we got the bill and they picked up my credit card. Seriously. Sorry - but overall, meh. read more

I was sadly disappointed in this place. I've been to another Union Kitchen and was really excited for brunch here, but this place just wasn't as good in multiple aspects. First of all, the service wasn't that great. The hostess was too busy chatting up on of her friends to really notice me, which was quite unprofessional. Then, while the bartender was quite funny and really sweet, the food took forever to come out, so of course, when it comes it, it's cold! That's a really big turn off for me. I got the Tejas Benedict, which was a recommended brunch item, and the food was alright. The poached eggs were overcooked, and the cheese masa cake was severely underseasoned. The only thing I really enjoyed about the plate was the chipotle sauce (I don't know if it really warrants the name 'hollandaise' because it almost tasted like store bought dressing) and maybe the hash, if it was actually warm. The pricing was average for a place like this, but for how good the food is and the portion sizes, I think that it does become a bit over priced. I normally don't eat a lot of food anyways, but I could finish the whole plate, which rarely happens. The hash they plated was very sparse and not at all the amount served at other locations. Maybe my expectations were just too high. Overall, I think that Union Kitchen, the franchise, isn't bad, but I probably wouldn't come to the kingwood location again. The only reason I gave this place a 3 star, instead of something lower was because the bartender, Gary, was actually really nice and cordial, and quite possibly the only thing that saved this experience. read more

It was my sister's last night in Houston and I bought a groupon which made this dinner very reasonably priced. I loved my Louisiana redfish topped with shrimp and crab. It came with a heaping side of green beans and not only was it perfectly seasoned and cooked but it was a huge portion. I literally couldn't finish it all which was a shame as we were going on a road trip the next day so not feasible for lunch the next day. My sister had the rack of ribs and it's easily enough for 2 people...fortunately that was easier to wrap to go and keep in the car for a rib snack at the rest stop. Those truckers were definitely checkin' out the ribs at the rest stop the following day! The atmosphere here is great .... good for business or a romantic special occasion. If I lived here this would be my regular spot. Plus they pour a nice size glass wine at reasonable prices and have an extensive wine list. I do recommend possibly sharing an appetizer and one meal as all of our portions were pretty big! read more

My parents love coming in here when they visit, and my husband and I enjoy occasional dinners.
