Went to The Union for lunch today. Delicious food and attentive service. I had the burger, which came with crispy fries. My lunch mate had a salad. Staff took all the precautions... gloves, face masks. It was a gorgeous day, so we sat outside at tables that were spaced at the appropriate distance. This place is amazing in every way. There is a good amount of outdoor seating with the tables very well social distanced. The restaurant also said they are willing to move tables from indoors to outside to accommodate more people. The menu isn't huge which is a great thing because it means every dish is a speciality and there is still something for everyone. The prices are very fair and the happy hour menu is a bargain! The service was great from the start and the chef/owner came out to talk to us personally about our experience which was a 10/10. The food was incredible, came out quickly, and was served hot. We had Thai coconut soup, union burger, shrimp po'boy and creme brûlée. Their food is bit pricey but it's definitely worth it! Everything tasted SO GOOD! The restaurant and the outside seating was nice and clean and the parking was easy. Also the owner and all of the employees were very kind and friendly. So happy to have found this restaurant to add to our Covid takeout rotation...and looking forward to when we can go and sit down to dine in person! Because of the reviews, 3 of the 4 of us chose the Union Burger, and we were very happy with our choice! Perfectly cooked, delicious bun, and even the condiments were stacked perfectly so that the burger wasn't a mangled mess for the last bite. That's an accomplishment in itself! I came here with my boyfriend on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Plenty of outdoor seatings. I really enjoyed the food and service here. The burger was one of the best burgers I've ever had. The beef patty was super juicy and flavorful, the bacon was thick and crispy. Definitely way better than shake shack!!! My boyfriend ordered the shrimp poboy and he liked it too. But we all agree that the union burger is the best we've ever had. The salad was really good too. We love the portions of the food here, the burger was huge, the fries were of large portions as well. Went to The Union because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. The lady taking our order was rude. We asked two very simple questions about the menu and she acted like we were annoying her. She was rude when we received our meal too. My burger was supposed to be well done and the other persons medium. Both came out medium. And there was no flavor to the burger at all. The bun and fries were decent...that's the only positive I can give this place. Update: I appreciate the response from the owner. However, the evening we came in it was not busy. We were the only people at the counter. She may have had a bad day before that, but as a first experience she treated us poorly. She was annoyed with questions we had about the menu & acted like we should have known everything about the restaurant. And when our burgers came out she said mine didn't look well done but my friends did so to just switch them ourselves. Turned out they both were medium. But, if she thought they weren't right why not double-check or switch them before bringing the food to the table? read more

We had dinner outside tonight! They have space heaters. The food was delicious - I had the Pibil Chicken sandwich, a friend had the burger and another friend had the shrimp Po'boy. I read a few reviews about this new restaurant and decided to try it out. I called to see if reservations were recommended and if it was kid friendly. Reservations were not needed they said and yes, they are kid friendly. So off we went on a Saturday night. In case you're a local, this restaurant is located in a building that previously housed an Indian food restaurant ...near the Greek Taverna and across from a frame shop. Ample parking in the underground garage. Here's what's going to happen. When word circulates that the food here is tip top including especially the burgers, it will likely start becoming crowded. For now, no one seems to know about it so shouldn't be too crowded. My wife had the ancient grain bowl with shrimp. She said it was fantastic--basically that she knew someone knew what they were doing. My son had Salmon and he said it was very good. My other son and I had cheeseburgers and they were perfect. Not ok. Not good. Not great. Perfect. First, the bacon on top was crisp and delicious. The burger is made from a blend that tells you this chef is not cutting corners but going for flavor. If I had to guess maybe some chuck, brisket and short ribs. It was cooked perfectly. The bun was light and toasted. The fries were fantastic. Basically, it appears we now have a place in Mclean to get a good burger. I would put it on part or maybe slightly better than burgers at Coastal Flats. It's hard to say because they are somewhat different. Coastal flats relies on soy sauce, butter, onion and garlic to create their flame grilled crust which is of course delicious. But this burger at The Union is of a better blend meat IMO. Better starting point--less playing around with seasonings. Both burgers are really good but I think The Union has the edge. It will be interesting to see if over time, people agree with me on this. So, yeah, I'm guessing we have a month or two before this place is packed to the gills. I would also guess as word gets out, the pace of food delivery may suffer because it looks like they still need to staff up. They might need to invest in some better processes around bussing tables--which were being cleared sort of one or two plates at a time instead of loading a container and knocking it out in one go. You kinda get the impression the new staff is kind of slowly getting the hang of things. Man, I miss McKeevers but The Union's burgers are 10X better. :-) I see that there is a lentil soup on the menu here. I'm going to try it for lunch. Something tells me this will likely turn out well. read more

Have been coming to The Union since they opened and have always enjoyed the service and food. Today (new years eve) we came in for lunch with three families and a bunch young kids. I came here with my family because it was one of the only places open when we were in town and were NOT disappointed! We had the burger, southwest salad and the chicken sandwich and WOW they were unbelievable. We finished off our meal with the banana creme brûlée, which I highly recommended. The owner came out and greeted us was extremely cordial and appreciative we came to his restaurant.
