Living right down the street we always frequent this restaurant for lunch or dinner, it's always been stealer, but TODAY I found my new most FAVORITE dish of all time!!!!! I ordered the tomato soup. I got a bowl , it was a small bowl at that. For $7 I would think it would be a rather big bowl. It did not come with the pine nuts and pesto that it described it would. The soup was tasty for sure, but a disappointment that it wasn't as described. I added it to some soup I had at home and heated it up. read more

I came here while visiting friends in Alpharetta and was a little disappointed. The service was OK, not very attentive, and not very experienced. The house wine is only $5 and I had the Chardonnay which was pretty good. I ordered the chicken gnocchi and it started out fine. Then I started to notice a few dark gray/purplish pieces of meat. It looked a bit like fish....some sort of mystery meat. I asked the server about it and he said it was probably just their dark chicken meat. That was not the best response and I could not eat anymore of the dish. Anyhow, the other dishes were ok. No one was blown away. Probably will not go back. read more

Came here on a Friday night at about 7:30pm. Nice casual atmosphere and a musician was just setting up. Patio looked nice but there were no seats so we sat inside. Service was good, food was very good too. Started with a bottle of Merlot ($25) and the Grilled Pimento Cheese Sandwiches w/ a side of hummus ($7)- very good. My entree was the special - seared grouper on top of a butternut squash/spinach risotto and arugala salad ($22) - VERY good. My friend had the shrimp and grits-unique flavor profile but good as well. Dessert was the Blueberry Crisp ($7) fresh out of the oven...delicious! I'm definitely coming back again if only to sit at the bar and listen to the the musician, who by the way was VERY good. If I had to have a negative I'd say the hostess stand was a bit too slow in servicing people as they came in and the owner/manager just stood in the kitchen looking oblivious to it. And with it being a small restaurant the musician was bit too loud and my friend and I struggled to hear each other. Overall though I liked it! read more

Three stars is about all I can give this place. We came here a year ago and had a much better experience then. The first thing out of the waiter's mouth was, "Oh, I guess I should tell you that we no longer allow customers to bring their own wine." Bad move. If you took reservations, I would have asked the question and not been bothered with having to show up with a bottle, thinking we could have great wine with dinner. I guess I'll order Riunite on ice, instead. Yeah; it's on the menu... Aside from my first impression being a poor one, the BBQ & Blues chips were very tasty...my favorite part of the meal, in fact. The wedge salad was just that, and edible. The gnocchi, however, was bland and a little dry. This dish begs for a garlicky alfredo sauce, or a tomato cream sauce...anything to spice it up a little. Her chicken parmesan was actually quite good. We took both of our remaining portions home. The outside table was lovely, due to the weather. I can't believe that we spent $91 + tip on dinner (including drinks) for two. Moscow Mules at $9/each kept my girlfriend happy, while I had to settle for the local Hop Dang Diggity IPA. I would much rather have sipped my lovely Spring Mountain Cabernet and given a 4-star review. Oh well; at least I know not to make the same mistake again. read more

Been going to this restaurant since I was a child. The portion size has always been the same, but now twice in a row I order food and it is tiny portions. The chicken was room temperature at best and was mostly breading. The chicken was also extremely dried out, worse than fast food. The fries were also not fresh. Still charging full price but giving portions too small to feed a 5 year old child. Extremely overpriced and not fresh. Very disappointed, will not be returning for a long time. Chicken parm is also way smaller than it used to be. Everybody is struggling during this covid situation, but skimping out on loyal customers is no way to handle the situation. Unbelievably slow and poor service. Our waiter ignored us, drinks were left empty without refills, I had to ask someone else to get the bill, and we had to fight off the flies to eat. Fried calamari is good with a lite batter. The fried chicken sandwich was a waste of money. The chicken was thin and overcooked served on an ordinary bun. The fries were cold, greasy, and undercooked. Chick-fil-a is much better and $6 cheaper. The shrimp and grits are actually ok but there is a lot going in that bowl. For my taste, it was a bit too oily with too many flavors and textures. read more

Great spot out in the country near Milton and Alpharetta. Quaint and comfortable with nice variety on the menu, and tasty food. From our home in Woodstock this is a short drive and well worth it. Good beer selection, good service too. read more

Tried it twice while visiting my parents- just very ordinary which was surprising after reading the reviews. When I eat out, I hope for something better than I can cook, but I wasn't impressed with either of my meals. It's pretty uninspired and not worth the price. Oh, my! My husband just brought home our takeout order from our favorite restaurant after eight weeks of closure due to Covid-19! The wonderful aroma brought memories of one of the things I've missed the most besides hugs - my favorite variety of meals from The Union Grill in Milton! We tried the tuna tartare, ravioli, chicken bowl, steak. The side of corn is a must. Everything was delicious, fresh... nice presentation. I'll take pics the next time. I went with the entire family without reservation and we were seated right away. This is one of my favorite local restaurants, it is near my neighborhood and never disappoints. I agree with other reviewer's, the service can be slow at times. We had the Curried chicken bowl and the Sambal chicken stir fry. They were both delicious, though I would rate the curry chicken higher. The vegetables in that dish were delicious. My 9-year old says: We love the Union! Because it has amazing food that is definitely worth the wait! Their pizza is great because it comes out hot and melts! And, their pepperoni is just the right amount of spicy! Their chicken tenders are also great because they have the right sauces (ketchup and honey mustard). And their french fries are amazing because they are salty unlike most restaurants and they taste good. I agree with him except I eat the adult food which is also tasty! The only downside is it gets really crowded and could do with an expansion of the dining area! read more

The food is good, and the service is friendly, but I'd struggle to consider it a top 20 restaurant in the Milton area. It is always busy, but the food is rather traditional and frankly, boring. Those dishes and sides where they take a risk, generally fall flat. The mac and cheese is rather good and the burgers are above average, but these aren't dishes that separate a restaurant, instead they are "me too" plates. Based on the food tastes, I think if they were $2-3 cheaper, we might go more often. I enjoy my meals when I eat there, and the people are very friendly, but I struggle to understand the popularity. I go there only once every 2-3 months, and our family goes out 1-3 times a week. read more

I have eaten here approximately 8 times in the past and always good..Tonight was a disaster.. They were overwhelmed and it was a loud mess. Apparently no one in charge of the front of the house. 12-15 staff running around trying to keep up. Food was 2/3 wrong and.staff would not stop to hear the problems. Under cooked meat and fish. Wow wow wow is all I have to say about this spot. We came here three times while in Georgia visiting family and each time the food was on point. I had the gnocchi and my husband had the chicken sandwich. The food was delicious and fresh. My gnocchi was pretty big so I couldn't finish it but hey no complains ;) my husband was raving about the chicken sandwich all day. I'm only giving Union 3 stars for this evening, our second time to eat at Union. First I fell walking into the restaurant on the uneven gravel parking lot. The wait was about an hour but in actuality we were seated in about 30 mins. After we were seated, ironically at the same table where we sat the first time at Union, we noticed how very loud the restaurant is, particularly when full. The noise level was almost unbearable, we could not hold conversation. The large party next to us was literally yelling to be heard. We will not attempt Union on the weekend again. Our food was delicious but the service was quite slow, our waitress was very sweet when we saw her. We passed on dessert and a second glass of wine to leave as soon as possible to get away from the noise. read more

Excellent service. Ask for Jarrel's table and you won't be disappointed. He is knowledgeable and very friendly. My choice for lunch was tomato bisque soup which was very tasty. Reminded me of the famous Marriott tomato bisque soup that is well known in their full service hotels. I also had their famous Sloppy Jo! It is sloppy, as I had to finish the sandwich with a fork and knife. It was very good and a different type of sloppy joe as it had melted cheese, green peppers and pickles in the mix. Different but tasty! Don't pass up the cheesy grits, if you have the room. Worth the trip to the country for this great little spot. The beauty of the area was very nice also. read more

This restaurant was an unresearched, last minute stop while we were staying in the Milton area. Two people in our party ordered chicken schnitzel, one person order the roast chicken dinner and I ordered the crab cake dinner ... all meals were outstanding. Beautiful presentation, complex flavors and textures. This is a definite must dying if you are in the area. The Good: really great friendly service. Nice relaxed atmosphere - perfect for a casual dinner. We finished with vanilla creme brûlée for the whole table- it's always good here. The Bad: Had the quinoa salad with salmon for the first time- it was so bland- all you can taste were the occasional fennel seeds- that's it. Adding salt and pepper did not do much. The crazy number of flies near our table. It was very distracting, not to mention gross. The okay: We also had fried calamari and steak frites. Nothing terrible but not memorable. read more

My wife and I dined alfresco on on the patio on beautiful sunny Sunday. This was our first time to The Union and hoped our experience would be better than at their sister restaurant 7 Acre Grill. Unfortunately the same staff and food issues that plague 7 Acre are also present here (could it be management or the owners fault? One might think so.) I called to see if we needed a reservation and to ensure they had gluten free options but no one answered the phone. A message stated they were open Sunday so we took the 30 minute drive. Strike one. We were greeted, if greeting a guest means mumbling with an expressionless face and throwing menus down on a table with dirty dishes topped with fresh linen wrapped utensils and walking away. When we requested to be seated outside our waitress simply said OK and did not bother to walk us out. RUDE! Strike two! Our replacement waitress Erin T was a ray of sunshine and is part of the reason we rated the experience three stars. My wife's burger was cooked properly to order and her fries were hand cut and crisp. My short ribs were tender and unctuous, although only two small ribs and a hugh pile of mashed tatters left me wanting for a third rib, specially at a $21 price point! No desert was offered or ordered. Strike three! Overall the food was appetizing and service by Erin T was pleasant and efficient. With so many other places competing for our dining dollars in the area, it might be a while before we make it back to The Union for our next meal. read more

We are thankful The Union is practically in our backyard. It's the closest restaurant to the house, so while convenience is a real draw, simple casual food and drink keep us coming back. Now for the small print. The Union is probably not the kind of place you'd drive way out of your way for. The food is only above average. The service is young and mostly attentive. The ambiance is country-hippie-industrial and clean. I'd bet you'd never regret coming to the Union for lunch or dinner, but you'll never say that your experience there was memorable either. Maybe I am being a little harsh for such a cute, out of the way place that does a decent job with food and service. And generally I am a supporter of the restaurant in an accepting, overlook-this-and-that kind of way. I've held off for quite a while in writing a review for The Union because I wanted to be fair, but an experience we had last night kinda summed up the decidedly average experience you will have at the place. Wednesday night. 8 PM. 3 diners at our table. The place is 80% full. Food is good. Service is typical, but I knocked over a nearly full glass of wine at the cramped table. Hey, it was a $15 glass of Krug. No big deal. The server comes over and offers some napkins and club soda for cleanup. Cool. We got this. She comes back after about 3 minutes, and I ask to get another glass of wine. (She hadn't offered immediately after the mishap.) She politely but directly says, "You know, we don't comp for spilled glasses of wine." Hmmm. I get it. My bad. I'll pay $30 for one glass of wine in exchange for my clumsy hands on your cramped table. It's just a little telling of the less than exceed-your-expectations kind of hospitality. I won't cry over it, and it's not going to break the bank. It was just the point of the matter and the bluntness of the server. So, keeping it real here folks, a disappointing 3 stars for The Union though I have really wanted to rate this nearby wanna-be much higher. read more

great hidden gem in Milton GA. We lived five minutes away from this place and went quite often. The shrimp grits and iced tea is a staple Now, my parents and I stop on the way when I go to school. Although, it does get quite noisy inside when busy, so ask to sit out on the patio. Service will be a bit slower but that seems to be because the servers have tables inside and out. Worth the bit of extra time though. Food is good and comes out fast. Would come more often if we lived closer read more

I really wanted The Union to be really good. I had met one of the folks who was working in the kitchen for the launch and he spoke with enthusiasm about how good the food was when they opened (2008?). OK fast forward to Feb 2011. We went over on a weekend afternoon. The place was not full so there was no pressure on the servers or the kitchen. The menu looked good and the servers were very attentive. We ordered: Salmon BLT Bob' Pittsburgh Pizza (a modified meat lovers) Kids Chicken Tenders Diet Cokes Lemonade This is probably a "me" kind of pet peeve but I don't care for it when they charge hotel vending machine prices for beverages, serve it in a can and there's no way to get a refill without buying it over and over again. But that's me. The Salmon BLT - It was cooked correctly. That was a plus, but it wasn't seasoned other than a pretty bland BBQ sauce. Rather than a crisp leaf or two of lettuce and a fresh slice of tomato, the sandwich has that shredded lettuce confetti that tastes like nothing, has no crunch and falls out of the sandwich, and the tomato slice had seen better days. The toast the sandwich was served on tough and spongy. I've had better at national chain restaurants. The Pizza - It looked OK when it came out but the texture and flavor was bewildering. I can't explain it other than to say it was "wet". Not saucy, not juicy, but wet. There was a wateriness (a word?) to the sauce and condensation under the crust on the pizza plate. Meh. The Chicken Tenders and Fries - The best thing we were served! Overall I think they need to pay better attention to the quality of their ingredients, preparation and the little details.
