Wow, what an awful dining experience. I fully appreciate that many restaurants are under staffed and doing there best but the upper deck took it to a whole new level. After waiting 20+ minutes for a hostess to acknowledge the line of people waiting for lunch we were finally seated only to discover out waitress was incompetent and didn't know how to place an order. We watched as every other group seated near us (all of whom sat at the same time or later) received their food while we didn't even have water. 45 min later drinks finally arrived as others paid their bills and escaped. The food, which shockingly did show up, could best be described as mediocre at best and left us longing for a real lobster roll. 100% would never return. But on the bright side, the view was pretty nice. read more

After being seated we watched several servers walk by and not acknowledge us, we waited over 10 minutes before deciding to get up and leave. While sitting down at the table I noticed the box they keep the condiments in was extremely dirty, also there was a big bug on the window next to the table. We were staying in Bar Harbor and wanted to see some other areas and restaurants. It was a little foggy and drizzling but the marina views were still great and just what you picture for Maine. The only positive things about this place is the view, which you can barely see because of the handrails and the fence. First of all, I ordered wine and it was so low pour that it was almost a tasting size. Then, the garlic muscles, which tasted old and lacked salt or any good taste. Then, CALT, which supposed to be with BLT with crab instead of bacon. Again, tasteless crab meat and very wet that it almost blends with the bread. The fries that were served with the sandwich was good, I'll give it to them. And then the woman changes the lunch menus to dinner menus as we were eating. Anyway, avoid if you can. We went to the UD on a Tuesday around 6pm and it wasn't busy. We order appetizers and beverages only. We were prepared to spend more time at this place because of the great view of the harbor. Amy was our bartender and she was garbage, to us. She took care of the locals and totally neglected us. This place was not busy at all, there were times when she had to wait on only 3 people at the bar and we had empty drinks. She kept asking us if we were ready for the check, we never wanted to leave, but her attitude caused us to leave and leave a 5% tip. Food was decent, but we only had lobster bites and mozzarella sticks. It appears to me that this is the type of place that loves the locals and to hell with everybody else. read more

This is a great place if you want to be ignored. I would give it 0 stars if I could. A group of us entered the restaurant and waited to be seated for 10 minutes and not a single waiter acknowledged us. We finally decided to seat ourselves and tried to flag down a waiter to give us menus. It was clear that they didn't want to serve us and kept ignoring our signals. Finally when the waitress stopped by our table she told us that she wasn't sure we could be served and was snarky towards us having seated ourselves. At this point, we had decided to leave considering how bad the service was and we definitely don't recommend the place to anyone. read more

GREAT people and good food. Come here all the time for a local hang out. Owners and staff are very friendly. View is amazing. Lobster roll is good and lobster BLT is good too. Why one star? Because this place is the worst when it comes to service and quality of food during our visit in August of 2016.  For starters, there is no method to the madness when it comes to being seated. We were told that "you are next to be seated" and then watched as another pushy family was seated before us. (strike one)  We were eventually seated at a lovely outdoor table and waited and waited... and waited for the waitress to take our drink order and give us menus. This might have been understandable if the restaurant was crowded - it was at about 50 percent capacity.  After copious apologies from waitress for the delay she took our drink orders. Then the wait began again. Twenty minutes later (we timed it) half our drink orders showed up. We had to wait another 10 minutes for the rest of the drinks to be served. (strike two)  We ordered scallops, caesar salad, chicken alfredo and chicken parm. We ordered side salads as appetizers. Then we expected another huge wait. This time we only had to wait 25 minutes before food actually arrived.  Our salads showed up first and as we were taking our first bites of the salad our main courses showed up. "Sorry we didn't give you any time to eat your first course," we were told by the chef as he brought out the food and explained they were short staffed.  I'm tempted to give them a pass on the wait because of the "short staffed" comment, but I won't. Why? Because the food was horrendous.  The worst was the seafood - something a seafood restaurant needs to get right. Scallops tasted rubbery and the side of fries were cold, hard and stale. The chicken parm was un-edible and consisted of a DRY and gristly chicken breast (no breading) in a tiny bowl filled with tomato sauce and a bit of melted cheese on top. French fries on the side were the same - hard, cold and stale. (strike three - you are OUT!)  The chicken alfredo and caesar salad were ok at best. The pasta with the alfredo dish was way over cooked and mushy. Alfredo chicken was basically the same dry gristly chicken as the chicken parm, only drowning in a pretty good tasting sauce.  The entire meal was awful. But when we politely complained about the full plate of un-eaten scallops and fries we were simply told: "Sorry, maybe you should of ordered something else like the haddock which is fresh."  Considering the scallops were un-edible and were not eaten, we were hoping not to be charged or at least have two glasses of wine comped or maybe a free dessert? We received nothing other than the check for a $150.00 for the worst meal we have had in years.  Unless these guys go under new management STAY AWAY. Don't be fooled by nice views and what looks like a great casual place to dine. This place is to be avoided at all costs. read more

Lots of great seafood options, salads & sandwiches, burgers & flat bread pizza, spectacular view of the marina and harbor, indoor/outdoor bar, happy hour eand more! Our table had the haddock ruebene e, mussels, Cajun fish bites and lobster roll. Lobster roll was very generous, rueben topped with cole slaw was DElicious. Fun ry late spring evening on the deck--just before the skeeters descended! Have to down grade our review. Have opted to stay away because of bad service by mid summer and poor food. Spinach salad was bland, dry, tasteless. looking for seaside view, go around the corner to Dockside! Have consistently heard negative comments abt upper deck. Plus she will cut season short soon. My 1st time at the Upper Deck. We were limited on time & ordered the Spinach Salad w/ lobster, blueberry vinaigrette dressing. Loads of lobster & feta cheese were a great combo with this dressing. The salad was large. I wish I could remember which beer I had bc it was great. Local breweries in Maine are good, really good. Love that the owners, Debby & Danny are working along side their employees. We will return to The Upper Deck for more than just the peaceful view of Southwest Harbor! read more

This place... Fantastic food with fantastic views. We had the crab dip, lobster cocktail, lobster club, and house salad with lobster...then waddled our way back to the AirBnB after. The live music was perfect for the setting and really helped us relax and enjoy the beauty around us. Stopped in for an app and a few beers later in the week. Highly recommend! After having had lobsters and various seafood for a few days around Bar Harbor, my family decided it's time to satisfy a different part of our palate. Stopped at this restaurant as there are not too many options around the proximity of SouthWest Harbor. Fortunately the food exceeded expectation and then some. Drawn by the words 'grass fed beef' on the menu, we ordered El Diablo and Mexicali burgers, medium rare. In my experience, usually only elite level restaurants were able to cook burgers to order. My expectation was tempered given the modest price point, for a supposedly tourist location. Surprisingly, the burgers came out just right!! While these are not the best burgers I have ever had, I would not hesitate to say that the burgers are well worth the price charged. The beef tasted fresh and tender. The fixings fused with the beef to give distinct flavors. Even the fries are enjoyable as the cut is not too thick nor too thin and the batter is crisp and flavourful. The spicy chicken wings are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The bowls of Clam 'Chowdah' are decent. Not ladled with cream like typically found in so many places. There are plenty of clams to be found. The only shortcoming is a tad too salty. So the food we ordered get a solid four stars. What made this a five stars experience are: The waiter (Kattrick [sp?]) - Even though we only ordered water as drinks, he provided excellent service comparable to the level I experienced in four $$$$ restaurants The view - We sat on the deck overlooking the marina. It was a sunny day and it was simply beautiful. Entertainment - Toward the end of our meal, a lady came onto the deck and started singing. By the way, the steamed clams ordered by the table next to us look amazing. We were there on 9/27/18 (Thu). The waiter told us the restaurant will be closed for winter. All you can say is the view is nice. My soup was lukewarm. My fried fish Rubin sandwich took 35-45 minutes but was just a piece of fried fish in a hamburger bun, not grilled, no sauerkraut, no cheese and no tartare sauce. And the service very slow. Not a pleasant experience. read more

We went to Southwest Harbor from Buffalo NY and we love the town. We decided on trying Upper Deck for me to get a lobster roll, we have been to Maine on vacation many times and we are in love with it. NOT the case for this restaurant. My lobster roll was good but my husband wanted wings and they were out so he went with taco salad and it was a bunch of lettuce with unseasoned beef(like someone crumbled up an overdone burger and threw it on top. Service was non existant . I very rarely leave bad reviews only complimentary but with restaurants hurting since Covid you need to do everything to keep people coming back. read more

Terrible service We walked in and were finally told by the hostess we were at the wrong door to be seated. We sat at the table for 15 minutes and finally asked the hostess if someone would wait on us. 1 waiter walked by our table 8 times without asking once if we had been taken care of. Another waiter came by at the 20 minute mark and said I'll be right back and went to wait on another table sat after us. We asked the bar if we could order dinner there and the bartender gave us a dirty look and said I have to clean off the table. We left. Lousy customer service. read more

wow what an incredible little find with great views of the ship's in the harbor. The lovely owners who are a couple we're very accommodating when we came in with no reservation. There was a 30 minute wait so we drove down to the lighthouse to catch the sunset and drove back. Be sure to try the bloody marys & fresh halibut! Delicious. read more

One star is pushing it, but it's not because of the wait staff. They deserve a break and try very hard, they just need more help. The one star comes from the bland overpriced food (8 of us with all different meals to validate this), long wait for everything, and the horrible shape of the chairs, tables and dinnerware. Our table was VERY wobbly and noticed it was being held together with zip ties. Looking around it was the case for other tables. After asking for a different table we were told, "this is all we have" and "the tables have been on order, but haven't come in". Well that sounds like a load of crap being there were so many tables in the same shape. On top of that the pitcher that water was brought in was ceramic and pieces were missing in two places! What?!! Additionally, the area they had us stand to wait for our table was in the area they called, "the chair and stool graveyard"...that's right, don't sit on them unless you want to land on the ground. Save your time and money, this is a solid thumbs down. read more

Please try the shrimp scampi!! It may not be what you would expect but OMG it is tasty!! Also really good--fresh, gener portions--was the Cobb salad with lobster. So I stopped in for lunch and I was expecting big things and that's just what I got. This place was outstanding. We started off with some fried lobster bites and they were something that I've never had before but boy were they delicious. Then I moved onto the fish and chips which to be clear was one of the bigger portions I've gotten when ordering this meal. The fish was pretty solid maybe a little dry in some areas but it was cooked pretty well overall. The lobster roll was pretty solid as well, it was a little sweet but the lettuce and roll didn't take away from the lobster which is just how it should be. The waitress was very sweet but the service was shockingly slow - we waited for over an hour and a half to get a boiled lobster , tasteless coleslaw and a lousy linguini with clams. This is after waiting for at least a half an hour for a table. Couldn't see the clams, garlic or fresh parsley. Worst linguini and clams I have ever had. And such a simple dish to make. They said they were backed up in the kitchen and gave us free chips and lousy salsa while we waited. Beautiful view. Lovely host. Lousy French fries, too. Lobster was good. read more
