We love this place! We only visit Seattle a 2-3 times a yr but we ALWAYS make a trip in to Urban Bakery! The prices are great! We can't believe how much food you get for the price. The Urban Bakery isn't exactly an artisanal bakery, but their pastries, croissants, and breads are baked on premise. The croissants are a little too buttery for my tastes, but when they are still warm from the oven, they are good. The breakfast sandwich may seem expensive at $6, but it is easily 2 servings. Nice convenient location near Green Lake for coffee and a snack before, during, or after a stroll around the lake. I love Cafe D'Arte coffee, and their chai was also really good. My kids loved the cookies, especially the large sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles. Their pastry/breakfast selection seemed limited though, after 10 AM on a Sunday morning. I've only hit up The Urban Bakery for breakfast and espresso products. The croissants are delicious, breakfast sandwiches are large, and the coffee is pretty good, too. For those that complain about the prices; listen, that's what it takes to sustain a small business. Also, this location is seriously prime real estate in the up and coming Greenlake hood, so leasing this spot probably takes up a large portion of their budget. I'm okay with spending an extra dollar or two to help the business out to be quite honest. Staff are always pretty friendly, items are prepared quickly and there is always a table open even on weekends. Decor is drab and not very welcoming but that is the last thing I care about when I just need some breakfast, yo. Or a hangover cure, whatever. read more

The location is wonderful, directly across the street from the lake. The food is delicious. Cookies, magic bars, and scones will satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooths. Dill almond chicken is my personal favorite sandwich, while you can't go wrong with any of the other options. Beef barley and lentil ham are hearty soups. When we were pregnant with our daughter a little over two years ago, we were new to the Greenlake area and were looking for a cafe that wasn't one of the bigwigs (aka Starbucks). We came here and have literally been coming at least weekly since! Our daughter, now 2, will ask to walk to "her bakery" every Saturday morning like clockwork. The staff is attentive, kind, and friendly! The food is amazing and so are the coffees. Everytime my daughter walks in, they call her by name and they even come by and tell her fun stories or just give her a high five! They even got a hug, which is a huge deal from an active 2 year old. We couldn't be more lucky to have made such a connection like we have there - OH and during meltdowns they just smile and laugh, which isn't something you see often in restaurants/coffee shops! I have many fond memories of this place. We used to all meet here before the Mountaineer Saturday walk around Greenlake. 15-40 people came through in a few minutes and then many had lunch afterwards. My girlfriend and I had been for a walk at Green Lake with her little Pomeranian dog. We stopped here for a cup of coffee. No sooner had we sat down that the waitress very rudely complained about the dog which was outside barking occasionally at passerbys (Pomeranians don't have loud barks) and asked us to stay outside with the dog. We moved but that wasn't good enough. She apparently didn't want any dogs anywhere near the place and asked us to just leave. I've never seen anyone (my friend and her dog) treated so rudely in my life. And, our coffees were both too strong and very bitter! I would never go here again. Note here that at least one out of every three people are at Green Lake walking their dogs. All the other restaurants understand that if they don't respect that people have their dogs, they won't stay open for long. The owner needs to do something about this waitress or he (she) will be closing due to lack of customers. read more

I love their soup (especially the beef barley) and sandwiches and although I have not tried their salads my sister loves them! Everything tastes so fresh which is quite refreshing. We have had this place as our standard breakfast place each time we walk around Green lake in the early mornings (7-8Am). It is convenient, and the cafe have some easy hot sandwiches they make and some oatmeal-cookies etc. Coffe and food is ok. I like the quiet local neighborhood atmosphere and the efficient staff. I was introduced to this unassuming little place about 2 years ago by a friend who's been coming weekly for many years, and appreciates their ability to accommodate her gluten free bread needs. GLUTEN FREE bread is available and you can even get Avacado toast! Several breakfast sandwich offerings too, even smoothies. Take out is in all compostable containers. This unassuming little bakery has the best croissants in Seattle. Seriously, the croissants are light, fluffy and flaky, not the hard rocks that most bakery's sell around here. I waddled in to the Urban Bakery when I was pregnant and basically became addicted to the Nutella croissants! The quiches are delicious as are the breakfast sandwiches, which are made to order. We've made this place our go to morning bakery and our kiddo is always excited to come here because she loves the owners! The owners are the sweetest people, and so kind, they also staff the place with very good employees. There are always water bowls ready for the dogs of greenlake outside too. This is definitely the place to stop and get your coffee before walking the lake or after running it. read more

Hit up this joint for the first time ever today. I had the spinach feta quiche, and a cuppa ginger peach black tea. The spinach feta quiche was good - but just good. Reheated in the microwave (not my favorite method... makes the crust squishy...). The ginger peach tea was quite tasty--pretty standard. Service was a-ok, too. The guy at the counter was fun to talk to. He had a great sense of humor. Overall, I wasn't hugely impressed--but it was good. This will be my go-to place when Bauhaus is too loud/crazy. We have been to Urban bakery twice now and enjoyed it each time. Most recently we got an Americano, Java Chip blended drink and a Magic bar. The coffees were well made and great tasting and the bar was absolutely amazing. If you're in the Greenlake area and haven't had a quick stop in for a snack you're missing out! They have a large variety of sandwich options, quiche, tons of coffee choices, juices/gatorades and all kinds of baked treats. Add me to the chorus of voices praising Urban Bakery for freshness, friendliness, generous portions of yummy fare at very reasonable prices, in a gorgeous location with a corner patio overlooking Greenlake. Scrumptious sustenance in a casual patio atmosphere, ideal for a good refueling session after a visit to the lake, and if you're around that play area on the Northern end of Greenlake, Urban Bakery is right there, right across the street. Consistently ultra-fresh salads, generous deli sandwiches on good bread with fresh ingredients (I'm hooked on the tuna but that's just me), and there's this amazing sweet I'd never had before called Toscani that frankly blows my mind. I have also gobbled down numerous portions of their quiche with great satisfaction (on separate occasions, of course). All of the staff are friendly and likable, to the point that I can't help but feel happy to see them upon entering. It makes me doubly glad they're running the spot in that area that is most likely to get my business, especially after having experienced the farcically overpriced microportions in the "atmosphere" that is Bluwater right next door lol. I so wish Urban Bakery stayed open later, at least in the Summer months; I'm always bummed when my visit to Greenlake ends up being after their closing time, but I guess they get a pretty early start. I wish I lived in the Greenlake area just so I could go here all the time. It's super casual and laid back but the food is incredible, from the fresh baked baked goods to the homemade soups (just like mama used to make). They have a variety of fresh scones in different melt in your mouth buttery flavors, as well as a variety of other delectable sweets. The coffee is good (with free refills if I recall correctly). There's wifi and outdoor seating for pretty days. And it is the only place I would ever pay for an egg sandwich because they are as good than the ones I make at home. Plus, it's right on the lake. Looking for refuge after it got suddenly VERY chilly around Greenlake, I walked into the Urban Bakery today and, boy, am I ever glad I did. I opted for them over Chocolati because, frankly, I think Chocolati is way overpriced and I don't like my hot chocolate being the consistency of sludge (others do; I don't). The no-frills, back to basics Urban Bakery is right up my alley, though. They have free wi-fi, giant cookies, friendly service and, best of all, ridiculously low prices (especially for the neighborhood they're in). I don't know how they stay in business with what they charge. To wit, I got a giant cookie, a large hot chocolate, and a nice bowl of hot soup with side of soft, yummy bread for $7 and some change. Damn, I felt like a winner. The other commenters are right about the atmosphere being super casual. Urban Bakery is decorated with as much care as you'd find in a small-town diner . .as in clean and pretty utilitarian and no frills. You won't find overwrought wall decor here or pretentious music in the air; hipsters may be unhappy about this but, on the bright side, this keeps the hipsters away from the Urban Bakery which means a "Yay!" reaction in me. It is a small, locally owned and friendly business with home-baked goods, great prices and free wi-fi. The Urban Bakery will definitely be seeing more of me. read more

I got the bread pudding for $3.50 on a hot summer day. They need air conditioning during the summer b/c boy was it hot and stuffy in there! The person who helped me at the counter was really nice and sweet. I like it when they don't get annoyed by my many questions about the food they're selling. The bread pudding was pretty good, but not great. But the reason why it was pretty good made me not want to eat there again. It's because they use tons of butter/oil. I could tell when I ate it. And when I took it home and microwaved the leftovers, it was oozing and dripping with melted butter. I think for my artery's sake, I shouldn't eat there anymore. read more
