Man I am sooooo happy this place exists for when I'm in the area. This was our first time here but everything was excellent!!! It's in a bit of a weird location but their setup inside the transport building is really nice and really clean with lots of seating. The worker was super friendly too. Everything we tried was delicious. The nachos were my favorite and despite not having fake meats like many places (with beyond/impossible or soy based or seitan type substitutes) the proteins that they offer were really tasty. I have visited this restaurant 2x in the last week...partially because we are on a No meat fast and the other part is I really like the items I have tried so far. I have ordered and absolutely loved the nachos. Once with chorizo (cauliflower) and the other nachos with Pollo (jackfruit). I will definitely order them again. My husband tried the Pollo Taco Trio and the Chorizo Enchiladas. Although he didn't love them, he didn't like them that much either. Lol He's pretty traditional as a meat and potatoes kinda guy. It came with a side of homemade tortilla chips which was 5/5! So fresh and was seasoned with some sort of spices. She also ordered the peach cobbler cinnamon roll which is made by an outside baker and brought in and OMG I never thought a vegan dessert could taste so good! 5/5 Overall this place is a hidden gem in the Desert and I hope it sticks around forever! A lot of spots skip the fundamentals, and I have to drown my taco in salsa and lime to get some flavor. Here I didn't need to do that. The Vegan Vato is a newly opened brick and mortal restaurant created by couple Damion and Amber Carlos after many years of providing vegan food at various farmer's markets. Prior to visiting the restaurant, I contacted them via Instagram regarding the use of nuts in their menu items. I appreciate that my message was responded to my message quickly with the answer that they use hemp and pumpkin seeds but are those are not currently available. I later learned that their chipotle sour cream contains cashews so beware of this topping if you have a nut allergy. Menu options are the Barrio Burrito, Taco Trio, Loco Nachos, Loaded Fries, Enchiladas and Taco Salad Bowl. Vegan "meat" options are pollo which is citrus flavored shredded jackfruit, carne asada which is traditional flavored hibiscus flowers roasted with mixed bell peppers, chorizo which is crispy potatoes and toasted cauliflower in an authentic sauce, Baja style fish which is crunchy seasoned battered portobello mushroom, and Burris which is tender hibiscus flowers with shaved portobello mushrooms in a flavorful spice blend consume. Sides include tacos, rice, black beans, fries, avocado and extra protein. The sauce lineup consists of salsa, nacho cheese sauce, chipotle sour cream and several topping ingredients. Drink choices are bottle water, sparkling water, or bottled juice. Upon arriving, we were warmly welcomed by one of the restaurant owners. After ordering from the menu, we enjoyed the colorful waiting area and took one of the free stickers promoting the new business. I ordered a taco salad topped with the Baja style fish along with a side of rice and hubby ordered the loaded fries with a combination of the pollo, carne asada, and chorizo meats. Fries were made fresh which was a plus. My taco bowl was delicious and perfectly cooked and the mushrooms were crispy, yet moist and very filling. The rice was fragrant and fluffy. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the tacos and especially liked the carne asada meat. The restaurant is already showing signs of popularity by selling out of three days worth of food within the first and second days of officially opening. Hopefully, they'll soon balance the amount of food available to meet the needs of the vegan and vegan curious customers and become a must visit restaurant in Victorville. read more

We tried their burrito bowl and enchiladas - hands down the BEST vegan Mexican food we've ever had! As frequent vegan diners, we've found many places fall short on seasoning and spice, but not here. Every ingredient was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and deeply flavorful. The Biscoff cheesecake was a revelation! So soft and smooth - it's seriously the best vegan cheesecake we've tried. They also offer an Oreo cheesecake (sadly sold out when we visited, but we'll be back!) We loved everything so much that we packed extra cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, and another bowl for our road trip. That's how good it is! Note to owners: Consider putting up a larger sign - more people need to discover your incredible vegan Mexican cuisine in the High Desert! The spicy green sauce on the side gave it that extra heat too. The fresh blend of flavors, spices paired with the beans and rice are culinary perfection in its own right. We also ordered the mango lemonade and Blood Orange Lemonade and each was perfectly sweet and refreshing and paired well with our plates. For dessert we had the Mint Oreo chocolate pudding and Black Forest cake were superb! So good I actually had to get a to-go Oreo pudding for my gf! Again, I was so impressed by the food I decided to order a Taco trio plate to-go. Just had to have my parents try it as well. I got the chicken, chorizo and asada. I'm not vegan. I'm not vegetarian, but I was a guest at a yoga event where these big pizza sized boxes of vegan tacos from The Vegan Vato were catered. First things first, they were BEAUTIFUL. Colorful, lovely and inviting to look at. Originally a little hesitant, one look and I WANTED to try these tacos. I was told they were hibiscus (chicken) and jackfruit (beef). They were room temperature, which originally I was not sure would be a good thing, but it was a GREAT thing. The flavors were absolutely incredible. How? I don't know what kinds of juju magic goes into these tacos, but my gawwd they were delicious. Not "these are pretty good tacos for being vegan", but rather, "Dayyyuuummm, these tacos are friggin delicious!!" Room temperature made them fabulous!! Who knew? From their Instagram page, every dish looks just that delicious and I'm eager to try! Meat or no meat, I'm now craving these tacos and can't wait to try other dishes on their menu. "Chicken" (jackfruit) enchiladas are very good. They come topped with a house sauce. You can also add an extra spicy sauce which adds a good kick. Only problem is that even though I asked for extra protein it still wasn't enough. FACT #1: I am not a vegan (nor have anything against vegans). FACT #2: I love food. Now that I have that out of the way, let's talk food, shall we? Vegan Vato is primarily the only strictly vegan eatery on this side of the high desert. I drove 20+ minutes out of my way to make sure that I had something to eat for dinner. I have been here before. I wanted to try out the different "proteins" that they had and when ordering, so I ordered Carne asada, chicken, and chorizo. Ask about what it REALLY is and you will be told hibiscus flowers, jackfruit, and potatoes and cauliflower. If you take the time to read the menu, the delicious details are within the item description. I highly recommend following this eatery on Instagram as you will find the secret menu. At the time of my most recent visit they had sandwiches on the secret menu. I didn't want bread, and I tried their tacos (which, by the way, the 3 Taco item is a GREAT way to try their "proteins" if you are curious, new to this place, or new to your vegan lifestyle), so I went with the recommendation of the Vegan Vato himself: "Well, if you're hungry, you can order the nachos, loco style." Nachos? Loco style? I was in. By the way, I thought he said "local" but he actual said "loco" (I'm getting old). Let me tell you, for about $13+ this dish was worth it! The suspicious people in the vehicle that parked next to me (and the area and parking is just a tad questionable, but I'm gangsta' so this didn't prevent me from going) even asked what I ordered. I told them they would get a packed nacho plate like [picture in my review]. I took my first bite at the parking lot exit and munched on it on my way home. Now, in my experience, nachos don't usually hold up on the drive home. The cheese turns into brick, the sour cream is runny, and the guacamole goes brown, but not here. You won't get ANY of that. The nacho chips were topped with all three proteins, and added rice and beans. The "cheese" was some other sauce that didn't turn into a brick or make my chips soggy. It was topped with onions, cabbage, bell pepper, and all sorts of yummy. It had flavor and that's what I am talking about for being a non-vegan: flavor. I appreciate Indian food, so the "cheese" was like a curry to me, but even if that is hard to imagine, the flavor is set. The hibiscus was a lil' tough on this day, but when I had it in a taco on my first visit, it was on point. The jackfruit "chicken" was awesome and you truly forget that it is not chicken. Lastly, the part of my nachos that was topped with cauliflower and potatoe chorizo is my favorite! Overall, I absolutely appreciated the nacho suggestion and enjoyed my meal.
