I dig big actions. Big energy. Big everything in life. Dark and sultry despite the lack of big energy from the vibe.

Birthdays are wonderful, especially the one I just or perhaps am still celebrating. Came here to discover a new spot before the rest of the celebration continued. I suggest reservations since it's popular being so central to Ball Arena (Tate McRae concert that night), ball games and just typical downtown events and busyness. Parking is street but we snagged a spot close by. While we read it is a great date spot, I disagree for first dates. Quite loud, not an intimate setting and would make for awkwardness. The place is nicely decorated with purple lit wine racks and green velvet benches. But it's lacking a certain sexy vibe to showcase the creativity of the chef and excellent staff. Thoughtful in having a birthday note at our table to greet us, staff is quick and friendly always ready to make sure your needs are attended to immediately. Reanna was sweet, attentive and knowledgeable. Her suggestions were on point since it suited our taste style. Cocktails are wonderful with the Death by Daiquiri being a favorite. It's light and refreshing contrasted against its sister the Jungle Bird, a warmer sexy cocktail. The wine selection is a great variety to choose from and couldn't resist the French rose and Spanish cava. One of the most gluten free option menus for downtown and a welcome surprise. We decided against the shareable entrees but highly suggest the rack of lamb. That looks so scrumptious. We opted for several plates to share like the salmon crudo. Ooeemmggee what a creative and yummy dish. It was a gorgeous presentation. The cold blueberry granita looked like caviar but marrying it with the creme fraiche and jalapeño was perfection. Light refreshing and incredibly chef genius. The meatballs, gluten free surprisingly, was great with the sourdough focaccia. The marrow butter is THE most mouth watering oozy goodness you could devour. Personally I am a big fan of birthday candles and birthday sparkles on my birthday dessert. But sadly my ube brulee came out naked with only pistachio crumbs to meet me. It's such a unique taste and quite rich without being overfilling. The pistachios add that extra for the dish. Overall I think you should stop in and have the items and graze a bit. I think when you love yourself a little extra, it's about to get magical. Thank you for spending the evening feeding me Velvet Cellar.

We decided to try this spot for our anniversary. We had a great table and the server made sure to make our anniversary special. We had several plates and they were all winners except for the "deconstructed gumbo." When we ordered it the server made sure to warn us that it was deconstructed and not typical gumbo. We're always up for an adventure, but as South Louisianians this dish just... wasn't anything like gumbo. Why would you even do this to such a dish? If you want gumbo on your menu... have it be gumbo. We'll definitely be back, just not for the gumbo.

Been walking past this place for two years and finally made it in last night. It far exceeded expectations. I loved the classy vibe and the professional service. You're likely in a Boujee mood if you walking into VC and the menus deliver. The cocktail list is deep and everything we ordered was a hit. Tip toe through the tulips was our #1 pick. The steak and truffle mash were fantastic. Well cooked and packed with flavor. Reasonable for a 10 oz flank ($40 including the chimmichurri). Certainly adding this to the pool of date night spots when the mood calls.

The velvet cellar was delicious. The burrata was great and the bread toasted well. The star of the show was the lamb by far. Honestly some of the best lamb we have ever had. If you have had lamb before and liked it, make sure to try lamb here. The service was good and the waitress was attentive.

The experience at Velvet Cellar was out of this world!! A big thanks to the friendly and attentive staff who patiently guided us through the menu and answered all our questions. The quality of both the food and drinks exceeded our expectations; the cocktails were flavorful, and the generous portions left us with plenty of leftovers. The meatball appetizer was a standout, surprisingly delicious and possibly the highlight of the meal. Overall I'm definitely look ling forward to returning to explore more of the menu.

I recently went to The Velvet Cellar for a company get together and it was overall a great experience. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable, and her and other servers came by regularly to check on us. From getting drink orders, to folding napkins and grabbing dirty plates when people were up mingling or going to the restroom, the staff were very attentive. Appetizers for the table were green chili arancini and bruschetta, I enjoyed them and would definitely order the arancini again. I ordered the caesar salad- anchovy was very overpowering in it, and it was the item I disliked the most of everything else I ate. Chicken Marsala was absolutely phenomenal, and I'd order it again in a heartbeat if I went back. Also tried the brussels & bacon (not pictured) which were pretty good. Our server told us the dessert options were sorbet, cheesecake, or crème brûlée- so I sent it on the later option. When it came to the table I was surprised to see that it was not traditional- in fact it was with ube! It was so delicious. The cheesecake was also a banger of a dessert. I also got the cocktail "Whiskey Whisper" and throughly enjoyed it so much I got it twice. It had Four Roses whiskey, luxardo amaretto, dom benedictine, luxardo cherries and vanilla. The biggest con of the night was their choice to have the heat cranked up in there and everyone at our table was sweating, some even had to keep taking breaks outside where it felt much better. It wasn't that cold outside either so I'm not sure why they had the heat on full blast like that, but it did kinda kill the vibes some. Hopefully they fix that issue for others who'd like to dine in there. All in all a good experience and I'd go back to The Velvet Cellar to try some other food and drinks.

The food and the service were amazing! We were well taken care of and they accommodated my dietary restrictions so well! (I'm gluten free). The meatballs were fantastic but I think my favorite part of the night was the drink I got "Golden Flame". Best cocktail ever! The vibes in the restaurant were amazing too. Such a great place for date night.

Very cute bar and restaurant. Everything is clean and neatly organized. Bartender Mario crafted some delicious drinks. The happy hour prices are terrific for such a classy establishment.

Came here early on a Friday night with a few girlfriends. We made a reservation online and had high expectations from the postings we saw about it. Did not disappoint! This is a location where you can go to meet up with coworkers or a fun beginning to a night out. Business casual or casual cute is the vibe. It does get a little loud with the open style but not too loud to the point you can't hear your table. Only strange thing was walking to the restroom. We started off with a few drinks, they came out rather quickly, but the highlight of the night was the food. Starting with the lobster creste di gallo, my friend said it was one of the best she has had amazing flavor. The Risotto and Scotch Olives were also devoured. The funniest past was my meal, The Crispy Lions main. I thought it was fish until the Owner/Manager Chris came by and told me it was actually a mushroom. By that point I have finished it all and raved about the taste not being too fishy. Well in fact it wasn't a fish at all, but I loved it. Great experience, and I look forward to coming back! Overall 4.5/5 stars.

Love this place. I always get the chicken marsala (to die for!) and my boyfriend always gets the salmon. They have incredible cocktails, appetizers and desserts! We initially came here for his work holiday party, and come back all the time. Really kind staff and not a far walk from Union Station.

Excellent experience at Velvet Cellar for a Saturday brunch celebrating Mother's Day! Love that they seat large parties ~ it was easy to get a reservation for 12 people, which is how we found Velvet Cellar via OpenTable! The breakfast sandwich was really good, potatoes cooked to the perfect crisp, good deal on the mimosa flight -- 1 bottle, 4 glasses & a variety of juices! Our server was super nice & so was the owner! Everything about the experience was stellar. I'd recommend coming here & trying them out! Definitely on my list to come back & try out the dinner menu.

Came in again tonight for dinner, drinks and dessert! It does not disappoint. So many wonderful options for food, wine, and drinks. The ambiance is comfortable, low key, not fussy. It's just GOOD. Queen of Hearts cocktail to start. It was incredibly light and refreshing for a cocktail. The souvenir of TVC queen of hearts playing card is a nice touch! Enjoyed the Korean lollipops for an appetizer again. That sauce and slaw served with the drums just blows my mind. You must try them! For my entrée tonight I tried the Shrimp & Grits. I was between the Lobster Creste di Gallo and the Shrimp & Grits, but I had to judge for myself the flavor packed into this dish so many have raved about. Boy did they not lead me astray! And anyone that knows anything about good grits done well knows they should be creamy and smooth, which is exactly what you get here. He got the NY Strip entrée with the garlic rosemary mash, broccolini, and a black garlic cherry demi-glace. (He let me sample a bite, and I'd recommend that to anyone too!) Finally, I made it a point to finish off the night with the Ube Brûlée dessert. Holy moly... I am not kidding you when I say this dessert made me stop and contemplate ordering a second one. The flavor reminds me of a perfectly roasted marshmallow with nutty undertones and a subtle sweetness. It's light and the perfect epilogue to complement a meal. I'm already thinking about my next experience here...

Fortunate to have celebrated the GO with these kind folks. Our bartender (I didn't get his name), Joe the GM, and last but not least Reilly, the owner made opening night so great for us. We were walk ins and patiently waited for coveted bar seats. There was a hockey game contributing to the crowds. We sat at the bar and watched the bartenders work their magic. We were presented with complementary welcome cocktails which were a vodka, grapefruit, and I think Campari mix. Delish! Ordered several other drinks and they were thoughtful, unique and well crafted. The vibe is friendly and comfortable yet elevated. We sat by both the owners brother and the general managers girlfriend. It was nice chatting with them both. Very clear this restaurant/bar is a labor of love. Can't wait to come back!

Snacks, charcuterie boards, sandwiches, salads many shareable items. The experience is all weighing on the service and that is what was lacking on my visit. The waiter showed me which side of the menu was white wine and which was red. I ordered white wine, ended up being served a glass of red. I didn't complain, just decided to be a good sport. I ordered a panini which was much smaller than the waiter described and it was cold. I ordered a full salad, he brought a half salad. Water was only served after being requested halfway through the meal, as he never came over to check on us once the order was placed. I did try repeatedly to capture his attention but I suppose we were invisible? Normally, I am a 5 star girl but this dinner was a total disaster anything that could go wrong did go wrong. One of the worst dining experiences I have had in yrs. I might give the restaurant another try as it was highly recommended to me but never on a weekend. Shout to the team for having our table ready when we got there even though it was very busy that day. We started off with the Fall Salad and I think it was one of my favorite things we ordered. I had no idea beets can be that delicious! After that, everything else came out: roasted carrots, barramundi, and wagyu flank steak. They also put in an order or pommes frites (French fries) on accident and decided to give it to us on the house. Thanks! The roasted carrots were really good and sweet. You could tell they were quality carrots. The barramundi was another one of my favorites. I'm a fan of fish and they did an excellent job of cooking the barramundi with a great sauce(?) that tasted great with it. I found the wagyu steak flank overcooked and really salty which was disappointing given the price. The pommes frites were cooked well but also extremely salty. Overall, I would recommend Sunday Vinyl if you are trying to take someone to a place that is unique and don't mind paying a bit extra. And from that point on, from first taste, I knew my experience would be exceptional. The service was attentive without being overly attentive, and the chef's were so kind, answering every one of my weird questions about what they were preparing or ingredients that I noticed. I ordered the smoked burrata to start. The balance between the candied pistachio, artichoke pesto, and wagyu cecina really created a well balanced and unexpected dish. The burrata was creamy and the salty and sweet components balanced the aged sherry gastrique and made for an incredible intro to a beautiful performance by the chefs. Next was another small dish, which I wish I remembered the description for (I need to bring a little notebook with me), but it was a perfect segue into the next course, the ibérico presa. Wow. Just wow. White asparagus has got to be one of my favorite vegetables next to artichokes, when done exceptionally well, as they most definitely were. The piquillo peppers and pickled shallots complemented the pork, which was so soft, perfectly. I definitely died and went to heaven at this point in the meal. This is probably when I should've stopped eating because after this point, still pure delight, but my poor stomach was soooooo full. Next was another small bite to lead into my next course, also incredible. Wish I could describe it. My next course was the European sea bass. Now, sea bass is my favorite fish of all time. The perfectly crisp skin, the red onion jam, the spicy sweet balance was perfection. I loved every bite. The olive oil potatoes were a perfect complement. And at this point, I was bursting at the seems... but I still ordered dessert, because you only live once and food is one of the great joys of life. For dessert, I had the crema. The honeycomb on top, the cherries, all leading to a perfect finish. A time was had. Thanks El Five

Mescaleria Alma made me say it over and over again. I've been here several times. A recent visit wasn't just my best meal here, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had anywhere. The first thing that captures your attention is the room. A stunning wall of spirits rises behind the bar and seamlessly blends into the open kitchen, creating one continuous stage. Watching the team work is mesmerizing. Tiny containers of herbs, sauces, oils, citrus, garnishes, and countless other components come together with quiet precision. That's increasingly rare. I always sit at the bar because that's where a restaurant makes me feel comfortable. When I first sat down, the bartender was busy and focused. Over the course of the evening, cocktails became conversations. We talked about flavors, restaurants, and what makes a memorable dining experience. By the end of the night he slid over a bartender's choice, a Corn Sour, not because I ordered it, but because he thought I'd enjoy it. He was right. That's the difference between service and hospitality. Then there was the food and the taste of the cocktails. The kitchen and bar were firing. The Clover Club cocktail was beautifully balanced and wonderfully complex. The Mollete de Mejillones with smoked mussels, scallop aioli, morita hot sauce, and fresh lemon was extraordinary. Then came the Burrata con Huitlacoche. Let's not overthink this. The tomatillo salsa verde was orgasmic. Bright. Fresh. Acidic. Alive. It elevated every bite. The Pescadilla de Marlín finished with smoky tuna, molten cheese, crisp tortilla, and a beautiful salsa that tied everything together. I've stopped trying to decide whether I like Mescaleria Alma, Alma Fonda Fina, or Alteño more. It's becoming the wrong question. Chef Curiel and his team have created restaurants with different personalities but the same DNA: creativity, precision, warmth, and genuine hospitality. As someone who has spent a career helping organizations perform better, I couldn't help but admire what they've built. One exceptional restaurant is difficult. Building several at this level is organizational excellence. Walking back to my car, I thought one thing: I'm lucky. Lucky that people devote this much imagination, discipline, and care to feeding complete strangers. Some people see a bill. I saw craftsmanship. Every penny was worth it. Thank you, Chef Curiel, Dominique, the bar team, the kitchen, and everyone at Mescaleria Alma. You reminded me that excellence still exists. And tonight... it tasted like "yum."

What a wonderful experience. I had a near 10 hour layover so decided to checkout some highly…read morerecommended spots and this was at the top of the list. Made a reservation for 9 pm but got into town around 3:30 and they made sure to get me a table right away which was so kind of them and something they did NOT have to do. Kelsey was my server and she was so beautiful both inside and out. Very warm, welcoming and gave me great recommendations that were both personal for her but also worked with me when I wasn't sure about what to get after she recommended a few things. The food....was...SENSATIONAL. The Tostada De Toro I think every person needs to try once in their life. I feel like for whatever reason Mexican seafood is still underrated to the average person as I mentioned to Kelsey. They told me I could eat it open face or use a fork and knife so I tried it both ways starting with the first couple of bites open face. To be honest you could eat this upside down in a blizzard and it would be great, it was that damn good! The people sitting next to me giggled because I looked like I was having a foodgasm from my reaction to every bite. Then the Aguachile De Erizo had me licking my lips and then eventually drinking the "broth" (hope that's the right term) to the last drop with Kelsey's full approval hahahaha. I had never tried Uni before and what a great introduction it was. I kept finding pieces of scallops and uni in my mouth after and it was such a pleasant surprise. The Non-Alcoholic Colada I actually had first and it made be feel like I was on a beach somewhere. Delicious! The only downside to the meal was that I had to walk through the city after I left so I couldn't keep eating more which I really wanted to. But that's a blessing in disguise because I'm so excited to come back and try even more dishes that I didn't get to and I immediately recommended it to friends who live in Denver but were out of town and couldn't join me when I was there. Again cannot say enough about the service and the atmosphere which was so sexy. It felt both relaxed and accessible while still feeling upscale. (I mean I walked in with a backpack and a sleeveless shirt and didn't feel out of place or too dressed down at all. And if I was the staff didn't make me feel this whatsoever). Finally one more shoutout to the entire team for making it a great experience and make sure to ask for Kelsey as your server she's one in a million! PS my forgetful self forgot my wallet at the table and Kelsey came running out to bring it to me with a laugh and a smile. So somehow even after my meal they were still finding a way to be the best!

I've been staying at home, but was out of some of the beer I wanted to use. I went out for another errand and happened to pass by Cask and Craft. Hmmm...this sounds interesting. Plus it's a local shop, and I'm all about supporting local, particularly during this time. I pulled up Cask and Craft's website and was super happy to see the list of precautions they are taking to keep their customers safe. Some of these precautions include only 2 people in the shop at a time, use provided hand sanitizer when you enter, and even curbside pick up/delivery. Since I was sitting in front of the store, I figured I'd just go in, get what I needed, and quickly head home. I was greeted and asked to use the hand sanitizer upon entering - yes, thank you. I then explained from a distance that I was looking for a dark beer, preferably a stout. I was escorted to the back of the store and shown the fridge with all the dark beer. WOW! big selection. I had the choice of 6 packs, 4 packs, or mix and match. This was perfect for me because I needed 5 beers. I ended up selecting Jackie O's Java the Stout. When I brought up my 5 pack, the owner told me it was a great beer (one of his favorite dark beers) and that it was a solid choice. He was not wrong. This beer is awesome, and paired so well with my peanut butter cookie pairing. So good. I will definitely be back to Cask and Craft. Their shop is filled with all different types of wine, liquor, and beer. It's organized so nicely, and the shop itself has this comforting vibe when you walk in. I'm so appreciative of everything they are doing to keep customers safe and for the recommendations they give.

The store staff practices social distancing and makes sure all customers use fh sanitizer provided at the entrance. Awesome! Never ever shop and touch anything with unsanitized hands. The store is immaculate and organized! I got two bottles as a gift to Hubby's niece.
