    My imitation of the shark

This was so bad I didn't even take pictures. The only reason I give this place stars at all is because of the service. Food was terrible, I would even say inedible. I got some chicken and fries, Monterey Jack chicken on the menu, and it was dry, tough, burnt cheese. My friend got the oiliest quesadilla on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, looked like a god damn oil spill Ambience was questionable... the fish on the walls being removed from their natural habitat and forced to watch this monstrosity of a restaurant run directly below this big shark that was staring right at my table like a security camera the whole time violates my constitutional rights The service though... pretty good. The waitress was a very nice lady checking on us frequently and making sure that everything was smooth. Nothing bad for her, I just feel bad that she has to work with these fish on the walls and that she has to hear the food complaints. The kitchen would be better off serving the fake fish off the wall. This is real.

Great pie. Sauce has a little kick, nothing spicy, but enough to differentiate it and make it stand out. Good sauce. Good cheese. Decent value. Friendly people.

I like this place as a consistent, sure bet for feeding hungry family and friends. I think place is way under appreciated by the locals. The portions are big. The Friday and Saturday night Prime Rib specials are big hit with hungry family members. The prices are really reasonable for the Queen and Kind cut ribs, including salad and one side. People rave about the ribs at Old Grist Mill Tavern. The ribs there are good, but honestly I like the prime here too for less price. As a local, I don't have to travel additional 30 minutes to get to the Mill when I can come here for my Prime Ribs. The other fares are mostly American and Italian theme. Burgers, wraps, salads, and soups are all pretty good here and reasonably priced.

Food was pretty good. Price point ok. A ceiling tile fell on a waitress when we were leaving though. That wasn't ideal.

The pasta e fagioli soup was delicious and tasted as it should. We savoured it. Our salad tasted garden fresh. I asked for a basic spaghetti with meatballs. Delicious. Their meatballs meet my approval. And that is saying a lot because usually no restaurant meatballs measure up. Except for the meatballs my Grandmother, Mother and I have cooked. This is why I'm tentative about eating Italian out since we grew up making it, ourselves. Everything we tried here falls under the "did not disappoint," category which is an A all around. Even the rustic dining style with sentimental interior home furnishings and decorations. All of it speaks to the heart. They are a warm bunch and will talk to those just passing through. When I'm traveling the Eastern seaboard, I will make it a point to dine at Viola Cucina.

Mostly Smoke and mirrors.... At first glance, their website…read morelooks impressive, their menu looks authentic, and their staff promised 'everything' made fresh and to order. But upon tasting their food, it was clear, 'Viola' is just another Americanized Italian restaurant. We started with an a la carte order of: 'House made focaccia, roasted garlic spread, evoo, craft butter' This was fresh and tasty. We then shared the 'Caesar: traditional romaine hearts, foccaccia croutons, shaved pecorino cheese. classic caesar dressing.' This lacked any flavour, the romaine was cut into too small pieces, there was no hint of garlic or anchovy in the dressing. But the most disappointing dishes were the pasta dishes: 'Fettucini bolognese, house made, beef, pork, veal ragu, pecorino, basil, calabrian Chili.' 'Scampi viola, squid ink linguini, shrimp garlic, white wine, julienned vegetables, preserved lemon butter.' Although the pastas were freshly made, their textures were compromised; both pasta dishes were not 'al dente'. In fact the Scampi viola was drenched in a dark gravy and greasy. This is just not a very skilled preparation of pasta. A fresh pasta needs very little sauce, and should be dressed very simply so the 'textures' can be enjoyed. I ordered the: 'Zuppa di vongole: fresh little neck clams, vino biqnco, fresh herbs, crostini.' But this dish was replaced by a fried calamari dish. This was well prepared, actually the only star of the evening. This restaurant may succeed on its 'blandness' but will never attract the discerning diner who wants and appreciates authentic Italian cuisine. ~tiaotse~

Our reservations were for 6pm and we arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated promptly as the restaurant was not busy. To drink, I ordered the citrus rush, which is grapefruit vodka, oj and cranberry juice. It was really refreshing and tasty without being too sweet. For my meal I ordered a cup of soup and the baked Italian fish. My son also ordered a cup of soup and spaghetti and meatballs. My husband ordered the shrimp florentine, which was a special. We waited a while and noticed that another table nearby that arrived later than us received a bread basket and their appetizers. We never received a bread basket and never received our soup. They finally brought our entrees. I told her she could just take the soup off the bill since we never received them. My fish was pretty good, although a bit overcooked. The sauce on top was very good. I really liked the spinach on the side. My husband's meal included feta, which he will not eat. This was not explained when she described the specials and he asked her twice what was included. He scraped off the feta and proceeded to eat the rest. My son said his spaghetti and meatballs had a strange taste that he didn't care for. All in all, we found the experience to be a bit underwhelming.

I ordered the $32 lobster roll (photo attached) with a sweet potato fry upcharge, plus a $9 cup of chowder. For that price point, I expected a true lobster roll, but the portion was small and felt heavy on filler rather than lobster. The flavor was fine, but the value just didn't match the cost. My total was over $60 with tip for a simple lunch. I didn't complain at the time, and I'm hoping this was just an off day, but I wanted to share my experience so others know what to expect. With such a long history behind them, I'm hoping they return to the quality they're known for.

The way this restaurant treats potential customers deserves to be called out…read more The biggest problem isn't the food--I never even got the opportunity to try it. The problem is the complete lack of customer service and the dismissive attitude of the staff. This restaurant doesn't offer online reservations, so I followed the instructions on their voicemail exactly. I called before they opened, left my name, phone number, party size, and requested time as instructed. The message clearly stated that someone would call back to confirm the reservation. That call never came. Thinking it might have been an oversight, I called again after they opened. No answer. I called a third time. Once again, voicemail. We decided to take our chances and drove to the restaurant anyway. After standing at the entrance for several minutes while multiple servers walked past without acknowledging us, someone finally came over and asked if we had a reservation. I explained everything that had happened. Her response was, "Yeah, if you don't get a call back, you don't have a reservation." I replied that a call letting us know that would have been helpful since I had followed their instructions exactly. Her response? "Yeah, when you called we didn't have any tables available anyway." That simple statement summed up the entire experience. No apology. No acknowledgment that their reservation system had failed. No attempt to make things right. Just a shrug and an attitude that suggested our time didn't matter. If you know you can't accommodate a reservation, pick up the phone or return the call. If your voicemail promises a confirmation call, honor it. And if a customer shows up after doing everything they were told to do, the very least you can do is treat them with courtesy instead of indifference. My family lives in town, and we make a point of supporting local businesses. After this experience, this restaurant won't get another opportunity from us. There are WAY too many restaurants in town (actually several in the SAME PARKING LOT) to tolerate that treatment.
