A random first time trip to Katonah to watch the live action Oscar short ended in a late night bite while waiting for the train home. The service was impeccable, the barman was absolutely the nicest and very knowledgeable of the menu and dietary restrictions. We ordered the tater tots which were so damn good - freaky like only home made will, and topped with caviar!!! We also got, by recommendation, the shrimp and chorizo burger which, after literally wolfing it, I don't understand why isn't a thing everywhere??!!! great experience which made me want to go back to this town/village I've never heard of before yesterday just so I can try the rest of the menu! read more

Went for lunch. Did not live up to my initial expectations. Was brought two different things then what was ordered. Although corrected by the server neither the mistake nor the replacement had much flavor. The soup with bone marrow had was vastly under seasoned while the marrow was over cooked and I was left with a hollow bone. The chef also came out to speak to a regular and looked like he had showered in honey and rolled around in all purpose flour. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out I enjoy the space and the hostess was lovely. read more

I ate here several days ago, and for a place that I used to love I have never been so disappointed. I don't know what happened to the Whitlock but the energy in the room has completely changed. It looks like no one wants to be there. The service was terrible and my waiter was as rude as could be. My husband and I had a salad that was ok, underdressed and we had to ask 2x for extra dressing which took them awhile to bring to the table. For our mains my husband had the pork chop which was dry and rubbery. Basically inedible. (It was his favorite) I had the spaghetti with shrimp which was my favorite dish and it was absolutely horrible. The bottom of the bowl was filled with oil and the shrimp were rubbery and had zero flavor. Our waiter could visibly see we were not happy and did nothing about it. We would have paid regardless for our meal but not one person asked how are experience was, our waiter could not be bothered. I normally would not write a review like this especially in times like these but the food was atrocious the service was lackluster and our server was blatantly rude. Not sure what happened to this place it used to be my favorite but after the experience I just had I don't think I will be returning. The unfortunate thing is friend of mine who also loved this place have expressed the same sentiment and will also not return. Hopefully the Whitlock gets their act together and the staff puts a smile on. 0/10. read more

This was our second time here after eating at its predecessor, Willy Nicks, for over a decade. This place is carrying on the great tradition, and in a brilliant move, they continue to offer the greatest appetizer of all time--the Willy Nicks tempura green beans! They are delectable. I had the special petite filet mignon, which was terrific, and my wife loved her Bibb lettuce salad. She said it was incredibly flavorful even without dressing. One constructive criticism, about something which I notice is happening at more and more restaurants recently. They brought our entrees when we were barely half finished with our appetizers. That is not cool. It makes the diners feel rushed, and it's just not proper etiquette on the part of the restaurant. So we had to move our appetizers to the side while they placed our entrees in front of us. And they didn't acknowledge that maybe this wasn't ok. Please don't do that again. On balance, it was a very good experience and we will be back soon. read more

Everything was delicious and it was finally nice to go somewhere where many of the dishes worked for a gluten free diet. The pork belly and sunchoke app were incredible. Didn't do entrees as we filled up on apps. The apple tart and vegan rice pudding were a perfect way to end the night. The restaurant was full by the time we left. Can't wait to go back. My first experience dining here. Had a smattering of appetizers and dessert. Loved the gnocchi, the tater tots with creme fraiche and caviar, and a cheese platter. All were fabulous. What a great place for Katonah. Our waiter Michael was so helpful in suggesting what to order. His enthusiasm about the menu got me excited as well and we couldn't wait to try everything. Finally got to try this spot out after reading their write up in Westchester magazine. I Came in tonight (Friday night) and the place was packed and loud, really loud. The space is small but nice and is conveniently located across the street from the Katonah train station. Tried the tatter tot and caviar appetizer as well as the grilled octopus potato salad with salsa verde. The octopus was a tad salty and over grilled. The Tatter tots were gooood mixed in with the diced red onions and cilantro and a caviar topping. The standouts for me was my entree. The spaghetti, lemon, shrimp, garlic and breadcrumbs was delicious! The pasta was perfectly cooked, and seasoned nicely. The shrimp was cooked perfectly as well and not overcooked nor undercooked. My friends chorizo and shrimp burger with oaxaca cheese was great as well. Dessert was the brownie skillet and bread pudding. Brownie was soft and a chocolatey delight. The bread pudding could have been softer but was delicious regardless. I would come back to try more items, however on a less busy night so we can enjoy the ambiance more. read more

Ok, I'm not from Katonah, however I imagine these rich folk don't know or care that they are being ripped off on Wine Wednesday! Ordered a "half priced" bottle of Vigneti Del Sole, delicious by the way, sad to report is only worth $8.99 a bottle. (I have a bad habit of googling, I can't confess.) Was charged $17.50! Maybe the customs from Pt. Pleasant NJ and the fancy stainless steel bucket of ice it goes in, was where the added expense went on the original $35 bottle. So I got a deal. (Said no one ever) So you get a 100% markup instead of 300% markup. Hahaha suckers! I Had a salad with steak, it was good. Unless you know everyone from town, you might feel left out. (Sad face) every couple here is of the same sex! That's cool if that's what you prefer. Just yelping the truth. Get ready for the traaaaain going by if you prefer outdoor seating. It's on time and here comes another collection of fun eye candy to laugh at. These rich folk don't look happy to be home. Hahaha again! Will I eat here again you ask? YES. Came here last night with a friend. There was a 45 minute wait, we grabbed a drink and sat outside. I think we probably waited 30 min. We both ordered the Maria Maria cocktail it was strong, but good. We decided to get a few appetizers to share instead of ordering entrees. We got the tempura string beans, scallops, Korean pork belly and a side of French fries. Everything was delicious and I felt the portions were good size. We ordered 2 desserts and shared, the desserts were huge. Will definitely come back. read more

This place is excellent. We had the everything bagel deviled eggs, Korean short rib and caviar tot appetizers and they were all amazing. Waters were constantly filled and utensils cleared (it's the little things that matter). For dinner we had the CM Meats burger and Pork Chop. We were both blown away by our dinners. To wash it down we had the salted chocolate tart, again excellent. The location is perfect, ambiance is impeccable and the service on point. I highly recommend and will be back very soon! read more

Had an amazing dinner! Had the Green Beans with Wasabi aioli to start and the lobster blt roll. Chose the salmon for my meal and it was cooked perfectly along with the crisp root veggies. Wonderful service and great wine and scotch/whisky selection. Had the Gruner Veltliner Blend with my meal and the Lagavulin 16 year with my desserts. Mahalo, Christina for the delicious desserts. Delicious food and a delightful atmosphere with good service. I went for lunch with a friend from NYC who was visiting. We had a delicious, creamy dish of gnocchi for my friend who raved about it, and a large and perfectly made hamburger with fries for me. The crème caramel was superb, too. Our only hesitation about the place is the "no reservations" policy at dinner. Much as I would love to come back for dinner, the idea of standing around and being put on a wait list is a no-no. Oddly enough, they take reservations at lunch, but not at dinner. Their reservations policy keeps me from giving it 5 stars and for that reason we would not return. read more

This restaurant is a neighborhood hangout with a wonderful staff and food prepared just right. We went and sat at a high top next to the bar. The bartender and waitress were both jovial and very nice. The food was superb. The Whitlock has never failed us with an enjoyable, relaxing and delicious meal. The service is very welcoming. The ambiance is calm and comfortable. For lunch the prosciutto, burrata and arugula sandwich is my go to favorite. The side of fries were crisp and plentiful...or you can have a salad, we counted the ample amount of arugula as our greens, any excuse to get those fries. For dessert our waiter suggested the warm apple crisp with caramel ice cream. So good! That meal was worth every single calorie. read more

I am new to Yelp so bear with me as I will be reviewing a few of my favorite local spots. I have chosen the Whitlock first, as it is my favorite restaurant at the moment. I visited Willy Knicks quite often, and was disappointed to see it go. Little did I know that Matt and Christine would come around and spark a fire under Katonah. I was very happy to see that a majority of the staff remained the same. I have visited the Whitlock more than 10 times with my family now, and my two boys like it, which says a lot being that they are young picky eaters. The staff is extremely friendly. There is almost always a wait, which is great for these two young owners as they blossom. Any time I've ever waited, I've enjoyed a drink at the bar and even been greeted personally by the chef. There are two hostesses and they are both very sweet. My wife refers to them as the blonde supermodel hostess and the girl next door brunette hostess. I would love to go on about all the food we've tried, but I would have to copy and paste the menu as we've tried almost everything between the four of us. If you are heading over for the first time, I would recommend the shrimp and chorizo burger. It is a must try and a one of a kind. My wife loves the gnocchi. This place is AMAZING. My husband and I went for the first time on Valentines Day last year and to be honest, we were disappointed in the limited menu and the food didn't knock our socks off. Not bad, but not special. But we tried it again last night with our 11yo daughter and we all struggled to choose from so many wonderful menu options - apps to salads to entrees all sounded spectacular. We are now on a mission to go back monthly and try everything because our dinner last night was phenomenal. Bibb salad, roasted cauliflower salad, tempura green beans, chicken wings, shrimp pasta and the special "Market Toast (honey drizzled nectarines on ricotta) all phenomenal, especially the Bibb salad, wings and toast. Our waiter and the entire staff were attentive, knowledgeable, down to earth. Only negative was the bar crowd: sooo LOUD on a Friday night. Fun, but hard to hear each other. Then again, it's Friday night. This place a MUST. Well done, Whitlock team. Can't wait to return. read more

I went to this restaurant for brunch this past Sunday with a friend. I had heard lots of good things and the food did not disappoint. I got the special of the day which was a spinach and cheese omelet, DELICIOUS. We shared a side of maple bacon, UNREAL. So many good things to say, even the coffee was great. Our waiter, a middle aged man, was so sweet and attentive. I do have one big compliant, as I believe in constructive criticism. The hostess was so incredibly rude and unfriendly. Instead of walking us to our table she just motioned for us to sit in a corner, and became flustered when we did not read her mind and questioned her about where to sit. We also overheard her being rude to our waiter, who again was super professional. As we ate our meal, she aggressively threw silverware into the glasses that she was prepping, it was very distracting and unpleasant to listen to it as we ate. It was apparent that she was annoyed to be at work. Again, this restaurant lived up to the hype, however I will warn others of the nasty hostess and advise the restaurant to get rid of her so as not to taint its reputation. read more

So this happened today - and I won't post it on a Moms page because I'll keep my public shaming to those who know me and know how heartily I support local businesses. Yeah, so today a friend and I met at 12:45 for a long overdue lunch. We figured we would try a new place in Katonah, the one near the train station (yes, The Whitlock). I had tried stopping in for lunch a few weeks ago but it was earlier on a nice day and the wait was long. When we arrived, the hostess looked at me like 'do you need something?' - I asked for a table for 2 and she said, yes we'll set that high top up for you - I asked if, possibly, we could sit at one of the other 4 available tables (neuropathy in the toes, can't let them dangle).. She said 'no we are saving those for parties of 4'. Understood. We stood waiting for another 2 top to open...long enough to say, do you think you could separate those 2 tops in the other room? Nope. Can't do that. So there were still 4 4 tops in all, available now at 1 pm. Nobody else had come in, except for another party of 2 who took the high top where I couldn't sit. My friend, wisely, said, why don't we go to another place...but before we did, I asked if the manager was around. Turned out to be the same guy who had been walking back and forth - ignoring the conversation we had been having - and I introduced myself as having my office down the street, etc. We hosted parties here under the other ownership, yadda yadda - nope, can't put you at a 4 top because - HE MIGHT GET CUSTOMERS. A rush of 4 tops at 1 pm on a Wednesday...okay, not likely but does that mean that we aren't customers? P.S. We enjoyed our lunch at the other restaurant and you know what - I don't have to eat at all the "in" places. In fact, I think I won't go back there -ever - and I KNOW we aren't having our office parties there either. Just sharing & venting but vote with your $$. You shouldn't have to announce that I have an office in Katonah but Katonah business people take care of Katonah business people. And with so many fantastic and accommodating options in Katonah, I will NEVER walk through those doors again. read more
