We went to The Wicked Oyster the week before Memorial Day, we had tried to make a reservation for 6 people at 7PM and they were fully booked. So we went a bit earlier around 6:30PM and the place was pretty quiet with only a few other tables occupied. However, when we left the restaurant wasn't nearly full, so I'm not sure why we had been told that it was booked. I took away a star because the service was incredibly slow, which was surprising because the restaurant wasn't that busy. The food was pretty good, with a few standout dishes. Our table got the clam chowder, mussels in white wine, grilled salmon, seared duck breast, grilled fish, and braised beef papardelle which was on their specials menu. The papardelle and the grilled fish of the day were amazing, perfectly cooked and juicy, but the rest of the food wasn't anything I'd write home about. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. The dish, which featured macaroni, bacon, pesto, tomatoes and cheddar cheese with toast, was a fulling meal that tasted fresh and was not greasy. The customer service was superb. I left my cap at the restaurant, and servers ensured my hat remained stowed away until I returned later that day. read more

A flawless brunch, and I learned something* - edulicious! The simple brunch menu runs 7-12noon, and tosses out a great spread of only mildly creative favorites. For $9, my plate overflowed with a superstuffed three-egg Wicked omelet (chef's choice), home fries and wheat toast. Today's fillings: diced ham, spinach and feta, all light and pleasantly balanced. And the eggs? Perfectly cooked throughout without a speck of brown on the exterior. Eggsterior? WORDPLAY AT 1:35AM! Sampling is what people do at brunch, and while I don't normally highlight items ordered by others in the group, I've gotta send love to two tastes from around the table. First, the homemade corned beef hash ($4 for a side) is a must-try. Heavily seasoned punching a powerful cure, with a crisp exterior and oddly devoid of grease, it'll go with any plate. Second, the house bloody mary. Killer spice and big straw thick, it'll sub any plate. Get one anyway. We caught the tail end of brunch and didn't wait for a thing. Three cocktails, four entrees and a side of hash for under $50? With stellar service and a welcoming household interior? On Wellfleet? Yummy drinks, delicious food, and great service all for a reasonable price! loved the scallops, the cob and (of course) the oysters.

First, the brunch here is excellent, and the main reason to go to/frequent this restaurant. The best breakfast choice is actually the hash browns. Mind you, I'm not a hash browns fan usually, but they are just the right amount of crispy and spicy to get my top vote. I have tried the large stack pancakes, which are fluffy and drizzled with powdered sugar. A fine option is also the omelettes. The Wicked Oyster gets the right mix of egg and inclusions (vegetables, etc.) to make them great to start the day. Also, big props to the coffee. Second, for dinner, the restaurant doesn't quite match up. However, I would still consider the Wicked Oyster one of the better restaurants in Wellfleet for that meal. It's just when we went with a large group, there were enough people who seemed underwhelmed by their choices. The drinks are interesting as well, though some fall flat. Vacation dinner is a nerve-wracking experience. I consistently find myself torn between the security blanket of familiar restaurants and attempting to try something new. I'd never noticed The Wicked Oyster until this year, and ended up going as an impulse dinner. After our first appetizer (a lobster cake) I started to feel sad, nay, downright embarrassed that I'd never come to The Wicked Oyster before. /and I thought I was knowledgeable with Cape Cuisine. psh./ All in all, this meal was the best part of my vacation. I had the lamb, fiancee had the duck, and we both spent our mealtime in perfectly cooked meat bliss. But one thing I beg of you, if you dine here: Get the seasonal tart for dessert. A group of 7 of us popped in here over the weekend while passing through Wellfleet during Ragnar Relay Cape Cod. After our first round of drinks and taking our order, unfortunately it seemed as if we no longer existed. We weren't offered refills or checked up on at all. After spending the last 20ish hours running, we definitely would have loved some water refills. After 45 minutes (not an exaggeration, I compared the time to when I checked in on Foursquare) our food finally came out. Everything was fantastic. Huevos Rancheros was the big hit at our table, even for our gluten-free diners. It was well worth the wait! Their omelet list is pretty awesome and includes a few mix-ins you wouldn't normally find at a breakfast stop. We tried the Southwest and Shea's - both were great. We were seated on the patio for dinner. Our young waitress provided gracious and truly attentive service: she was the best part of the meal. The trouble started with the bugs: we were eaten alive by small but incredibly aggressive gnats. One of us had 25 bites that left painful sores just on one arm. The management needs to do something about flying insects ASAP. We had a Nor-Easter for a cocktail: a very original flavor that took a bit of getting used to. We had oysters, mussels, and ceviche for appetizers. The oysters were ok but not very briny - a matter of taste. The broth the mussels came in was extraordinarily over salted: no spooning this sauce. The mussels themselves were large and tasty. Ceviche was a little bland. For dinner, we had duck confit, panko sole, and scallops. The sole was very well prepared and came with a generous portion. The duck was as expected. The couscous it came with was somewhat non-descript. The scallops were good but the risotto was too soft, probably over cooked. Overall, we were left with a feeling that the chef tries very hard but fails to execute on some basics. Coffee good enough to drink black. Eggs Florentine with fresh baby spinach, very rare, with a Hollandaise sauce that was different than norm, but, decent. Homefries were slightly mushy, yet, correct red bliss potatoes and an interesting, good taste. I witnessed an order of French toast go by, so, had to try it. Nicely done, thick brioche style that came with SOFT butter!! Boggle my mind when restaurants serve cold, hard butter for any meal. My quibble is with the upcharge for Maple syrup. Places need to figure out a way to distribute any cost impact across their menu. They don't have to give it out as the standard, however, it should be a FREE option. read more

I loved this place for years and considered it one of the best restaurants I would ever go to but a event trip here really, really disappointed me. Crab cakes tasted like they were frozen, service was slow, and after my wife offering me part of her meal since I only ate a few bites of mine, I found the filet to be average at best. Also, the service was a little slow and the hostess that sat us seemed either spaced or this might have been her first job. Plus, our 4 year old son explained how he saw a lot of bugs crawling around where we were sitting. The restaurant was lovely, great ambiance, no problems parking. We had a reservation and were immediately sat. The service (and it may very well have been just our waitress) was AWFUL. I wish I could tell you her name, but since she never introduced herself, I'm not able. It literally seemed as though our presence was putting her out. As someone who has previously spent YEARS as a waitress and in the service industry, I truly did not know what to think of our server. She practically threw the menus down on the table and was so out and out rude to both of us that I could hardly believe it. She brought our drinks and appetizers but did not seem to appreciate that we didn't come in knowing what we wanted to order. We had to ask HER if there were any specials that night and she couldn't have seemed more annoyed to have to tell us what was being offered. Had the restaurant not been packed, I would have asked to be seated in a different section. In hindsight, we probably should have just paid for our drinks and left. The table directly behind us had the same waitress and the same service - perhaps theirs was worse, as the waitress dropped dishes on those patrons not once, but twice (mind you, with no apology despite the mess she left on the customer's khaki pants). She then proceeded to drop plates on her way to the kitchen. (And no, she does not appear to be a new server). We left the restaurant wishing we had gone somewhere else (our entrees were lackluster) and wondering if our waitress was on drugs. My husband and I went here tonight with some reservation that the service might not be great, based on previous Yelp reviews. Our landlady of the apartment we're renting said she had gone here very recently and the food was very good. Well, we wholeheartedly agree. Not only that, the service was great. So you just never know. Maybe they read the Yelp reviews and got their act together. At any rate, I had the sole, and my husband had the lobster. Both were fantastic. We had a better meal here, and paid less, than our dinner last night at Winslow's Tavern, another place we went to based on Yelp reviews. Came with a group of 11 on short notice and they accommodated us pretty well split in 2 tables. Service was very friendly and they handled our large party well. Cute & cozy interior. What a nice surprise! Every time we have been to Wellfleet we like to try different restaurants. The drinks we just right, I had the Pom Cosmo, not sweet, just right! We shared a beet salad, I wanted my own . We both had fish entries, my husband gave a being in the fish business that says a lot. My scallops were cooked just right and best risotto. Came across this restaurant by accident. Turned out to be a great choice. The prices were reasonable and the food was excellent. Visited twice for breakfast during my visit and was pleased both times. During off-season you should definitely call ahead to ensure that they're open. The menu was quite extensive and you should have no problem finding something to your liking. I had pancakes both times with pure New England maple syrup. Very, very nicely done on all levels except service. We are talking about breakfast here as that's what we had and it was one of the best around. Nice menu, lots of options, well prepared eggs with flavor and not these huge gigantic portions that make you feel sick if you eat it all. Really an adult place with homemade food and fabulous coffee! Most places on the cape are over-priced and act like we are all still in college with loaded plates of mediocre food and watery brown water for coffee. As if you don't know what quality is. This was truly like eating at home if you are a very, very good cook. Wonderful! I'm so glad I found this place. The calamari appetizer was some of the best calamari I ever had! It wasn't too greasy and wasn't rubbery. The lazy lobster was a fantastic entree. It was very rich and tasty. For dessert I got the flourless chocolate/raspberry cake special which was very yummy. Very sweet staff. Great experience! read more

We have a house in wellfleet and always come here to sit at the bar, enjoy a really good dirty martini and some oysters. Over the years we've started ordering food too. I've had some hit and some miss dishes. The oysters are always fresh and fantastic, duck confit and peach salad is usually spot on, The pan fried sole is usually delicious, the mac and cheese just OK, as is the scallops and risotto. This past weekend we went and actually sat in the dining room as there was no room at the bar. We were both starving and ordered entrees. I had the lamb wrapped in prosciutto served with a polenta cake, grilled tomatoes, and a garlic cream sauce. This was the BEST lamb I've ever had, hands down. I will never order anything else again from the Wicked Oyster. I would have licked my plate clean if there hadn't of been so many people there! I'm already counting down the days until next weekend when I can go back and eat more lamb!!! Overall, breakfast is good and cheap, dinner tries a little too hard to be fancy, but a few stellar items on the menu make up for the mediocre ones. They only have Wellfleet oysters, and the food isn't really seafood oriented. Excellent, but limited breakfast menu. They don't offer a lot of options, but what they do is excellent. My wife love the yogurt and granola, I love anything they have carb based (pancake, french toast of waffles). Don't bother with the huevos rancharos, not bad but nothing special For lunch try their signature open faced burger. The caramelized unions are perfect. Parking is limited, you may have to park at the old bank/ office building on the corner of Rt 6 and walk down. Not that big of a deal if you are expecting it. read more

Blueberry pancakes! That's what I wanted and what I got. They were great. I didn't want anything else. My fiance enjoyed his bagel and lox. We sat at the bar since there was not a wait for that. Very hot in the restaurant however. I know they had AC since you had to close the door when you entered and exited to keep the place cool but it was definitely NOT working the day we went. Service was decent and we'd return. But, I'd rather just get the pancakes to go. Too cramped in there. I will say they have a dinner menu but it did not harken us back to the Wicked Oyster. Typically I check Yelp before heading anywhere. Unfortunately when we got to our planned destination, Moby Dicks, the line was all the way out the door so we just kept driving. We stumbled upon Wicked Oyster and decided to just head in. The restaurant is pretty big with multiple dining rooms. Our server was fine. We weren't wanting for anything throughout dinner. We ordered the crab cakes to split as an appetizer. I got the buttermilk oysters and fries and my boyfriend got the grilled filet minion. The food came out quickly. Our crab cakes were a total let down being pretty bland and tasteless. My boyfriend said he thought they were frozen but according to the menu they use fresh Maine crab meat. My buttermilk oysters were fried in a lot of coating. It was almost too much. Some sections of the buttermilk batter were actually still raw. I ate the half that were cooked through. The fries were pretty tasty. My boyfriends filet mignon looked amazing with thick grill marks crossing perfectly. He sliced me a piece to try. The meat itself was cooked to perfection. However, everything was slathered is a ridiculously saccharine sweet bourbon caramel sauce. I've never seen bourbon caramel sauce used on a savory dish before. I assumed reading the dish description that the sweetness of the sauce would be toned down but it wasn't. Not even a little. Imagine squeezing a bottle of Nestle chocolate syrup over a perfectly cooked steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. That's what this was like. Being on vacation I like to experience the local cuisine and dishes. I was a little disappointed in Wicked Oyster. It looks like their only locally sourced seafood are their few oyster dishes. Being on Cape Cod, more of their seafood and ingredients should be local! Overall the restaurant itself is nice and the service was fine but the food was a let down. Wicked Oyster used to be a very good restaurant as recently as two or three years ago. But my partner and I just had the worst meal there we have had in a restaurant -- any restaurant -- in fifteen years. We ordered a beet / arugula salad as a starter which was fine, although we waited fifteen minutes for it. We then waited over half an hour for our entrees: a lobster tail in cream sauce over gnocchi and a seafood stew. The lobster tail looked as if it had been under a heat lamp for the entire day, and the broth of the seafood stew was no better than Chef-boy-r-dee out of the can. On top of that, the mussels in the stew looked like they had been sunning all day with the lobster tail and the clams were rubbery and lukewarm. It's a shame, because we had chalked up a similarly disappointing experience in July to it being tourist season with all the usual lack of care in materials and preparation. We went back this time expecting it to be better; it was even worse. It's sad because there are not a lot of options in this lovely town in the off-season, but Wicked Oyster is forever off my list. read more

We walked into the Wicked Oyster without a reservation five minutes before closing time on the last night of a three day holiday weekend and were treated not only to a great meal. but to the kind of welcome and genuine hospitality that totally blew us away. The place had almost cleared out and I am sure the staff was looking forward to cleaning up and getting out, yet we were treated to the kind of attention and service that earns this restaurant the high ratings that it well deserves. It is off season here on Cape Cod and better dinner options are far and in between. The Wicked Oyster is an established restaurant opened for the most part year round so off I went for dinner on a cold Sunday evening. The atmosphere is pleasant w/ wide wood planks for flooring. There was no wait and the wait staff was congenial and attentive. There was a prix fixe menu w/ starter, appetizer, and entree. The New England Clam Chowder was a little sandy but delicious. It was a brothy, creamy w/ lots of fresh clams. My beet salad w/ arugula, toasted walnuts and a nice portion of coated and fried goat cheese. It was delicious My entree choice was salmon which was perfectly cooked. It was served on a bed of spinach w/ mushrooms and gnocchi in a light pan sauce. Except for the gnocchi which were leaden in texture I enjoyed every mouthful. I decided to splurge and asked for the dessert menu and chose the chiffon mini cake with vanilla cream and strawberries in a syrup. Sounds good but unfortunately it was awful. The mini cake was cold, dense and pretty flavorless. The vanilla cream was great disappointment as its texture was weak. The strawberries were the highlight of the dessert. I like the Wicked Oyster will return because I've had some good meals there, but if I go in the off season I will not be ordering dessert. Happy Eating. read more

I've been coming to this place for years and always had a delicious and sumptuous meal, but this year we ordered carryout and the Lazy Man's Lobster was shameful! $38 mp got a tiny lobster tail and a couple of teaspoons of tiny, nondescript shreds of (lobster?) over maybe a dozen gummy gnocchi covered in a watery, tasteless yellow "sauce".
