This was my first visit to The Windjammer, however, it's another one of my fiancé's family's go-to restaurants while they're on vacation in Ocean City. It's conveniently located right off of the island and has an enormous parking lot. It definitely has the look and feel of a diner, but it also features a large bar. I'll admit that I wasn't very excited about dining here, but by the end of our meal The Windjammer exceeded my expectations and then some. We were a larger party of 8 and our server did a fine job with us throughout the course of our meal. We all ordered water, soda, or iced tea so there's nothing to report on the drink front. We were started with bread and banana bread (not the best banana bread I've had but also nothing to complain about since it was complementary) and we ordered a couple of appetizers to split -- the Mini Panzarotti were very good. I had a hard time deciding what to order for dinner but landed on the Yiayia's Prime Pork Chops. I loved the seasonings and the flavor of the pork chops. In no way am I complaining, but while one of my pork chops was juicy and tender, the other pork chop was drier and tougher. Still completely happy with my meal. The prices were pretty reasonable and the dinners came with plenty of food for anyone to be satisfied. All of the entrees came with Soup of the Day or House Salad. I chose the New England Clam Chowder which I really enjoyed. The house salads were also huge! My fiancé and her brother-in-law split the Filet Mignon Medallions and the Iowa Premium Braised Beef. Her dad ordered Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Everyone enjoyed their meals and many of us had leftovers. I can see why The Windjammer is a restaurant my fiancé's family enjoys and continues to go back to. The dining experience was casual and relaxed, and they're a kid friendly establishment. I never felt rushed and our server never made it feel like we were a bother. The portions were almost unbelievable (in a great way lol). As I'm writing this and recalling our experience I feel bad for not wanting to dine here. the waiter we had was very kind and great, contrary to some of the other opinions here. that was kind of the only thing that was great here. i got the chicken tortellini and the amount of cheese on top was kind of overwhelming. the steaks some other people got were dry, also one person got a rib eye and the other got a new york strip, and both were given the exact same steak. my biggest gripe, that someone else mentioned in their review as well, was the tv playing. Decor is low light and very comfortable. Music isn't too loud. Salads and breads came out super fast! Salad was basic. But it's a started salad. The slice bread was shockingly sweet! Super moist. Diner rolls are a little harder but not dry! Holds up well with your meal. I ordered the chicken parmigiana! Chicken is tender! Sauce is not super sweet! Has a beautiful Italian flavor! Stopped for lunch on our way into Ocean City. Place is large with lots of tables and a pretty expansive menu. Our server was a delight and was very attentive throughout our meal. My wife's spinach omelet, to which she added sausage, was really flavorful and satisfying, and the home fries served with it were very good as well. My crab bisque was a mixed bag - the generous portion of lump crab meat was fabulous! Unfortunately the crab bisque it was added to was pretty good but obviously came from a can. We were in OCNJ over the weekend and wanted to get out to a place with a bar. We wanted to try and get dinner at a place with a water view, and knowing it's ocnj we headed out around 4:00 to beat the crowd. Unfortunately our choices were all packed and we ended up at the Windjammer. With a toddler we had to make moves. It was honestly the best move we could have made. We walked into the Windjammer and everyone was instantly friendly, the hostess gave our toddler a toy to play with and our server was so friendly! Our food was really good too and my husband and I both had local ipas. Things happen for a reason and we were happy for this pleasant accident. It's a diner, but ramped up a bit. We stopped in looking for a relaxing casual meal after a long drive and found a great menu, friendly (albeit very busy) service and good prices. I had Yiayia's Pork Chop Oregatano. The plate was huge - literally filled with food! The menu is specific with broccoli and fries as the sides but in reality it is flexible. I had sautéed zucchini and a baked potato instead. The Pork was nicely seasoned and tender. My dad and sister had the Turkey Club with potato salad and both thoroughly enjoyed their meals and raved about the potato salad. Sadly we could not fit in any of the lovely baked treats on display in the entrance. Next time Windjammer, we will leave room for dessert! I highly recommend the Windjammer! Our service with Caroline was great. She was friendly and checked on us just enough. I got the Chop-Chop salad. It was excellent! Great flavor combinations and textures. Saved half for tomorrow. Husband got the lobster meat scampi. It was good enough and smelled great from where I was sitting. The bar had beer on tap and a selection of wines. They probably have mixed drinks, as well. This is a diner-type restaurant and while the desserts were very tempting, we did not get any. We called two other places in Somers Point (at 5:00 on a Tuesday) before choosing here. This place was awesome! I had dinner with some friends at the Windjammer a few months back and everything was just delicious. We were there early and all ordered the Early Bird Specials which included a side salad, drink and dessert. I had the Chicken Picatta which came with some nicely seasoned rice and fresh vegetables. So good. One friend had a beef dish and the other had seafood and they both loved their meals as well. For dessert, I took home a piece of apple bread which was also really good. The service was great and the restaurant itself was decorated nicely and had a good vibe to it. We had a great meal and really enjoyed our time there. Our food was ordered To Go. Everything was packaged very carefully and very beautifully, you do not see that often with to-go services in restaurants. My grandfather can no longer go into restaurants so your to-go service is a lifesaver! I got the Salmon and it was perfect. Thoroughly disappointed. As a local, I used to go here frequently for dinner and loved the experience. They had the best cheese bread that we loved. Decided to come for lunch today, sat down And ordered from the pared down lunch menu. Found nothing incredibly appetizing so I ordered a chicken parm. Asked for penne to be subbed out for the linguini, and was told they only had linguine available. Food got here and the appetizer and soup weren't bad, but the sauce on the chicken parm was flavorless and too sweet. Ate half of my plate, and planned on taking it home and doctoring up the sauce myself for leftovers. Waiter came over and asked if we'd like boxes and I told him yes. He asked if I needed a large box, and I told him yeah since so much was less. They have a charge for using their "large" to go boxes. I was flabbergasted. The waiter asked if want several small boxes since they're were free. So now I am leaving the restaurant with 6 tiny to go boxes since it cost money to take the food to go in an appropriate box. Absolutely absurd. Will not be returning. For the price of lunch (95 bucks with tip) and the up charges it's just not worth it. I could had a better lunch for half the price and any other diner in the area. read more

We try to spread our eating out money around, and it's been a while since we've been to Windjammer. The food used to be above average diner fare. Our meal lay night was awful. We went during early bird and each had the seafood combo, which was $24 during early bird. First, the bread was awful. It used to be fresh. Every roll was hard and the banana bread had been frozen. The lettuce in the salad was brown. The seafood platter was horrible. The crab cakes were the size of golf balls. My wife's were really salty, but mine OK, which was odd. The shrimp and fish were so overcooked that I thought they forgot the one shrimp, it was so unrecognizable. The dessert, Jewish apple cake was also terrible. It obviously had been frozen, and it was hard and mealy. We didn't complain because we arrived at a few minutes before 5 (the end of early bird). By the time we were waited on, 5:01, the waitress said that early bird was over. She had to get approval of the owner to give us the menus. I rarely leave bad reviews, but this meal was awful. When you spend $60 for an early bird meal, you at least expect it to be palatable. read more

Looking for a quick dinner while staying in Ocean City a group of us decided on the Windjammer just over the bridge into Somers Point. The slavaki and burgers were really good and nice large sized portions. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive and the food came out quickly. Our second choice for dinner & a pretty good one. I had this restaurant bookmarked from last year (we stay at a hotel across the street). I really enjoyed my lump crab salad - nixed the onions, peppers & olives. It came w cucumbers, sliced tomato & avocado as well. It filled me. Vince had stuffed flounder - he liked the fresh flounder but wasn't thrilled on the filling. I tried a bite and liked it & would, in fact, order it next go round. My daughter had soup & a burger - loved both (she's 14 but has decent taste). Aidan (12) mopped up on his chicken parm, served w penne. He just "made it" for the kids menu. His dish came w ice cream too - two BIG scoops! One happy boy! The bread basket had sliced corn bread, cinnamon rolls (not the overly sweet bakery type) and plain rolls. Looked great but too carby for me. Our server, Susan, was so so sweet & seemed genuinely glad to serve us. She was very motherly & kind. Very disappointed today. We've been going to this diner for years. It used to be our 'go to' for breakfast. This morning we went and I found out they no longer have my favorite, Crab Hash. When the waitress was asked about it, I got a vague reply. She didn't know. So I tried to find something else. I asked the waitress if they had Corned beef hash. My SO got a meat lover's omelette with cheese and it was delicious. Huge too, he couldn't finish the omelette or the home fries. I treated myself to the crab cake benedict, and holy cow. Truthfully, I don't like hollandaise sauce so I got it on the side. But even that was tasty. The crab cakes were a medium-large size and melted in my mouth. The poached eggs on top were perfect. I'd never thought about eggs with crab cakes but this is definitely a great match. Again, on the pricey side for a diner but still at the shore and what you'd expect.
