Made a reservation before a Monday night lease event concert (Incubus). We learned the hard way last year that if you go through the concession stands, you'll stand in line forever for substandard fare. The Wine Bar is an open-air patio, elevated over the main walkway. Nice relaxed atmosphere, and our waiter was friendly, professional and attentive. Went in expecting to be over-charged, so we weren't shocked when a nice bottle of Pinot was double+ retail. As others have noted, plates are small and pricey; however, everything we ordered was surprisingly good. Started with the bacon-wrapped dates ($9) and grilled flatbread with roasted tomato ($16). A small serving of dates, but they were so good we ordered a second serving. Our waiter had recommended the Spanish fried chicken ($19), so we went with that and the sea bass with soft herbs and plum salsa ($21). Once again small servings for the price, but well prepared and delicious. Particularly enjoyed the fish, it was perfectly cooked and integrated nicely with the herbs, salsa, coriander yogurt and pistachios. (Note: I didn't keep my receipt, but pretty sure the prices are accurate). We left feeling satisfied and not overfull. Not a cheap dinner - $150 before tip, but well worth it to avoid the concession stands. I'll book the Wine Bar again next concert. read more

Wow wow wow. The service here was amazing. Ali and Jessa set us up w the most perfect table for two. When an extra friend arrived without notice they did everything to make us comfortable. Michael was out server and he picked the most delicious rosè for us while also helping us decide on some yummy food. The chicken liver is a must!!!! I attend about 20 Hollywood Bowl concerts every season. Yesterday morning, I phoned Patina group to make a reservation at The Wine Bar for 2 at 7:15. Had to leave a message as their line was busy. Left all the info, including my phone number in case they needed to return my call, which they didn't. Arrived promptly at 7:15. Hostess said she didn't have my res and couldn't seat us because they were full. They were NOT full, There were more than 20 seats available. She claimed they were being saved for people who had reservations but had not yet shown up. (I saw her res log and there were 2 names not crossed off, one of which said "manager's) We did end up getting food to go and stood up at a table near the entrance to eat it. For the entire time, those 20 seats remained empty. This is inexcusably horrific customer service. I must say, the bartender who took our 'to go' order was very pleasant and also indicated that he was amazed that she wouldn't seat us. I know our experience must not be par for the course for Patina. I've dined at most of their restaurants and have always had excellent food and service. read more

My favorite summer discovery is the brand new Wine Bar at the Hollywood Bowl! Perched on the hill, the sleek, modern Wine Bar gives you the best outdoor seating you could wish for on a sumer evening in LA, with gorgeous views the crowds below are missing. Sipping a glass of wine and sharing a surprisingly perfect burrata and melon salad, my friend and I couldn't help but notice the curious and jealous looks of the people walking by; I even think I heard some grumblings about if they had known this place existed they wouldn't have brought their sad sandwich and boring bottle. The wine list was wonderful, and definitely does justice to the place's name, with something for everyone in all price ranges, and great wines by the glass. I'm not a big beer drinker, but my friend is and she was excited by their beers on tap. The food was delicious and tapas style so great for sharing with friends or a romantic date. I was expecting it to be expensive but the dishes were actually very affordable. My only problem is that you can't go to the Wine Bar without a ticket to a concert! I wish I could go all the time, and will probably be going to more shows than I did last summer just because the Wine Bar makes it much more special. If you are going to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, do not miss out on the Wine Bar! Unless you like turning green with foodie envy that is, I guess everyone has their thing. read more

Sent a letter to the company, and a representative of one of their sister restaurants responded saying they would forward it to the management of this restaurant, which didn't care enough to bother with a response... nor bother to respond to the bad Yelp reviews. Had the pleasure of dining at Wine Bar before the Fireworks show on July 4th. For it being a holiday, I braced myself for a longer wait or lackluster service (which in most cases, I can understand and forgive when a restaurant is slammed on a busy night). Let me just say from the moment we were seated, Stefan and the rest of the staff made us feel like true VIPs. Exceptional 5-star service throughout our meal! Standouts were the grilled cheese, pork cheek and the macaroni and cheese! Oh my gosh, I think we devoured them as soon as they got to the table! Such an amazing place to have a relaxing dinner in a beautiful setting before a concert at the bowl. We definitely will be coming back in the future! read more

So we wound up here because it was convenient and close to our seats for a concert. It's a nice space that sits up high and has nice ambiance. We were seated right away because we had reservations. Tables are a bit small but we managed. Ordered some drinks and started to peruse the menu. Now on first glance one thinks to themselves "hey these prices aren't too bad for the Hollywood Bowl"! Then you get told that these are all small plates and are served Tappas style. Hmmmmmmm ok that means these prices are.....ummmmm......not cheap. Well we ordered several plates. Lots of different options and styles. Yes the plates are small but it did give us 4 a chance to try each thing. I would say everything we had was well made and tasted good. They brought the plates out at intervals so the table didn't get to crowded. A bonus.....if you have wine or beer left over they will put it in a cup to go so you can take it into the Bowl. We decided to try out their food before the John Williams show. We didn't get any wine, but the food was amazing! The Spanish Fried Chicken was so delicious, and the sauce they have to go with it compliments the meal really well. Definitely recommend that dish. Service was also really nice. read more

Had the pleasure of dining here before attending The Black Movie Soundtrack II. The great dinner, wine, atmosphere, and host helped us segway into a an unbelievable show. HANDS DOWN Halibut with the blue crab and fingerling potatoes are the BEST! This is a tapas syle restaurant, but I recommend ordering your own. You will be just as upset as I was to share all that goodness. A little small and the restaurant closes at the start of the show, get here early to enjoy. read more

Wonderful view of mountains, people walking into the Bowl, awesome late summer weather.... enjoying our French Grenache wine with scrumptious cheese for pairing. Entré I picked grilled flatbread with prosciutto and arugula, chicken liver crostini, as appetizers, it's finger-licking. Uh- not closed! Taken over by A.O.C Really really really enjoyed NOT lugging bags of food we won't consume to the bowl. It was so easy to walk in, get a table, eat some pricey but delicious food- easy! We got the peach ricotta something, the fried chicken and the sea bass. All 3 were very well composed dishes- but for the quantity the price is a little higher than a normal restaurant- and why shouldn't it be- it offers great service and an unbeatable convenience. Has Ms. Goin tasted the food that is being served at this AOC spin-off? I was so excited to learn she was going to oversee this pre-show Hollywood Bowl restaurant. Until I ate there. The food sounds delicious and when it's thrown on your table (ok, maybe the runner only tossed it at us) it ends up being lackluster and flavorless. Best dishes: Spanish fried chicken, curried cauliflower and chorizo flatbread (that is no longer on the menu). Worst dishes: Halibut ( strongest spelling fish I've been served). Not quite fresh! Squash blossom flatbread. Vegetables are served lukewarm and unseasoned on a nice piece of fluffy bread. Fingerling potatoes were served cold in a too hot to touch copper pot. The runners/busboys are pretty awful. They rarely refill water and as mentioned before, haphazardly toss your food at you. The servers are hit or miss. The first time I ate here, our server was absent, slow and dull. The second time I ate here, our server was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. A dinner for 2, with wine, will run $150 - $225. Save your money and pack a picnic for your Hollywood Bowl night. read more

Its hard to review a trendy hot spot, in a spectacular venue, with anything less than 4 stars but 2 it is! These 2 stars are for the hotess and waitress, each at .50, both seemed frazzled and confused. I could see they were trying, and 1 for the food. Problem here is that someone forgot to inform the kitchen staff and water guy of the restaurant's desired 4 star reputation. Most chefs I know of, realize polenta is in need of added flavor, not here. However the mushrooms on top had a nice taste to them. Too bad not enough to flavor the entire dish. Or that grilled or lightly charred does not mean "burnt", not here. Or even that hot food should at least be a bit warm when brought to the table, not here. Didn't taste the fingerling potatoes that arrived so cold, the creme fraiche, never melted, yes here. Halibut and Chocolate torte were pretty tasty. No problems. As far as the guy whose only job appeared to be merely filling water glasses, well he seemed oblivious to the fact that a glass is actually required in order to drink said water. Or that at times people actually want only water as their main beverage. Or may desire refills, especially during mid-July. Oh and some advice, waterboy, no matter how attractive, you & your ponytail think you are, your main job is to refill water glasses, so at least try and accomplish that, oh right, not here. It was a birthday surprise from my sister. A beautiful, Sunday evening at the Hollywood Bowl to see Gustavo Dudamel. His performance 10 stars, and The Wine Bar by a.o.c. not here! So you came to a Hollywood Bowl show without any picnic food or drinks? Well, there is this fancy place where you can sit down and eat in style ...after about 40 min of waiting. So order some drinks and some snacks at the bar and stand around there till they call your name to get a table. Good enough variety of wines and beers, a few snacks (the bacon wrapped dates are kind of OK, nuts and olives are good) and if you are patient enough to get seated there are some good tapas to choose from. Expensive? Yes, but everything else is inside the venue. Fancy? Yes, it's a white tablecloth restaurant, if you are willing to give up the opening act and put the "business" in a business meeting at a show-this is the place for you. read more

An absolutely stunning experience! A beautiful modern restaurant with al fresco dining. FOOD: Wonderful small plate style food with a modern California feel. They do offer some larger plates but my girlfriend and I decided to share a selection of small plates, some of the highlights were the White Gazpacho (refreshing and flavorful), the charred Brussel Sprouts ( A nice light preparation ) and The Squid Ink Pasta (It was a special that night). Over all the food is exactly what you would want dinning outside in the summer in California. Light flavorful and very fairly priced. WINE: One of the highlights of the whole evening for me. The wine list is meticulously curated by the Manager/Somm Stephan. They have all the classics you would expect for a California wine bar (Big Cabernets and Chardonays) But what really got me excited was the "Interesting" Red and White wine categories, if focuses on interesting wines form California I got to try an amazing Chenin Blanc form Habit among others. SERVICE: Friendly and Knowledgeable our waitress Heather was an absolute delight and paced the meal perfectly to get us on to the show on time. All in all we had a amazing experience and we will be back every time we go to the bowl! My musician friend was in from out of town, so I decided to go a little upscale at the Hollywood Bowl and made reservations for the Wine Bar before an LA Phil performance. We had a reservation but were running late and called ahead; the host, Amanda, was understanding and accommodating. Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and greeted immediately. The outdoor dining room provided gorgeous panoramic views to enjoy with dinner. The menu was a delight and complemented what proved to be a unique wine list. The sommelier delivered Jardesca with tonic as an aperitif--refreshing and a nice touch. He was very knowledgeable and made us feel at home. I cannot recall his name, but he was tall with an accent that was possibly Austrian. The food was phenomenal--small shared plates and we loved every one of them. The wings were so delicious that we ordered more to take into the show! For an excellent Hollywood dining experience, make a reservation at the Wine Bar at the Hollywood Bowl. read more

Ok, not sure why this place is flagged as being closed, but it's definitely not since I ate there last night. Maybe they were closed temporarily? A bit of warning, this won't be a comprehensive review, I'm still recovering from a late night.;) Anyway, made reservations for this place a few days ago for last night right before The Cure concert which was a blast! Our reservation was for 6:00 p.m. We arrived at 6:10 and were seated right away even though the place was very busy. Our server explained the menu and was quick to take our order. We requested the bacon wrapped dates, grilled peach salad, flat iron steak, lamb chops, fingerling potatoes and butterscotch pots de creme. Bacon wrapped dates were yummy, but it's not something you can really wreck. The grilled peach salad was refreshing and light. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the wine I had as I gave my server full reign to choose something for me. I simply asked for something versatile, crisp, slightly sweet and not dry. What he brought me paired well with every dish. Although I didn't try it, my friend said the steak was very good. My lamb chops were served with grilled peppers. They were tender and flavorful, although could have been a bit more rare. The fingerling potatoes were served in a sauce and well with the chops. The butterscotch pot de creme was divine and the perfect ending to the meal. Bottom line: I'd dine there in a heartbeat if seeing a show at the Hollywood Bowl. read more

Went here with some friends for dinner before the Fourth of July Special with Steve Martin and have to say I could not have had a better experience. Our group must have tried 75% of the menu and everything was delicious. I wan't expecting to find genuinely high quality oysters here, but lo and behold they were delicious. Also enjoyed a few soju cocktails that started changing my mind about the stuff. The service was also fantastic. Everything was brought out promptly and there were some great suggestions on food from the waitstaff. Overall a wonderful experience and great incentive to come back for future visits! read more

As you walk up past the entrance to the Bowl, you approach the Wine Bar that is perched on the right side of the hill. We arrived a little after six and were promptly seated. Our server came to our table quickly and even though we had lots of questions regarding the items on the menu, he patiently explained everything very professionally. We ordered a cheese plate to share, which had several types of great-tasting cheese, some Marcona almonds, and this extremely delicious jam! The chicken wings we ordered came with a ponzu sauce, which complemented the crispy wings perfectly. What really impressed me though, was the recommended wine, which was a 2012 A Cote Pinot Noir. At the end of the meal, our server even provided us with plastic glasses to finish our wine while at the concert. Oh, and the chocolate semifreddo was just a little piece of heaven on a plate! Overall, the staff at the Bar created a wonderful dining experience for us and I would definitely come back! PS - You should try the 90H20 water, which worked like magic to remove any unpleasant aftertaste from the wine and meat and prepares your palate to fully enjoy the next sip/bite. I can't remember if it has always been run by AOC but as the previous yelper mentioned it's pricey but for a venue like the Hollywood Bowl isn't ridiculous. You can get a nice glass of wine in the appropriate glass for about 14.00. and there are a lot of choices. The service is prompt. The pour is generous and the bar staff is cute and friendly. I did not have any food this time around but will try next time. I ate there a few times last year and the small plates were good and I like AOC, so thinking it might be even better. read more

I have been to the Wine Bar at the Hollywood Bowl a number of times. Each time the food has been wonderful and you can't beat the mountain views. The prices are steep, and though the food is excellent--it doesn't hold a candle to eating at A.O.C. itself. It does, however, have many of the Suzanne Goin's hits from the bacon-wrapped dates to her fried chicken. It is a lovely spot to get food and wine before a show, but you must make reservations and be prepared to drop a lot on a little. The mark-up on wine is STEEP, though the selection excellent, and the plates are small--so if you are hungry the bill can skyrocket quickly. It's a great way to enjoy the bowl though if you don't want to or don't have time to pick up take-out or fight over a picnic table. You get a great meal, and hopefully see a great show as well. I had my second meal the the AOC run and inspired wine bar at the bowl last night. The food...not very good. AOC is a well run restaurant, food and service is excellent. But, not at the wine bar. My steak, although cooked correctly had no flavor. Honestly it seemed they forgot salt and pepper. The dates were equally flavorless. Flat bread fell flat! The chicken was good and the cauliflower was outstanding. The service is very hit or miss. Our server last night was OK, but there was a good 15 minutes between bringing out our two main dishes. A good waiter will make sure they come out together. The wine...for a wine bar they have very few wines by the glass. As an example, there were no less than 15 cab's to choose from but only one by the glass. And, it was not very good. When Patina was in the space food, wine, and service was much better. No, they didn't move the masses the way the wine bar does but why do you want to pay high prices for C- food, wine, and service. Time for me and mine to move on...will not return!! read more

Portion size is very disappointing, especially because food is good but nothing special, and certainly not worth the steep price tag. Tiny amounts of food (don't expect to be able to share these plates) at exorbitant prices. Don't arrive hungry and expect even 3 entrees and numerous sides to be sufficient. I don't know why any Bowl subscriber would want to experience this kind of disappointing dinner. read more

Awesome! By far the best option at the Hollywood Bowl. Fantastic way to start the evening out, get there before the show to enjoy the view and the weather. Right at the bottom of the bowl so you can hear the opening act. Fantastic food and incredible service. We just discovered the new Wine Bar at The Hollywood Bowl, and will make it part of our "Bowl" experience with every visit now! It was such a lovely setting amongst the trees, and even sitting at the bar, which was available right away without a reservation, we were able to enjoy a yummy steak dish and a terrific assortment of cheeses. The Wine Bar is the perfect spot for an early diner before the show at the Bowl. I've been there two nights in a row and for both the service and the food were very good. All the staff is aware of the short timing and everything is made to get you on time to the show. Moreover its doesn't affect the quality of the service. The staff is friendly and full of attention. Professionalism and efficiency, the Wine Bar is a well-managed place. The food is tasty and well presented. The fact that you have to share the plates bring some joy and friendliness to the ambiance. We made reservations but they didn't have us on the list. (4-26) I became a little worried but they still sat us. It is a great place to chill out while waiting for a concert. It truly is a wonderful space but the food is just ok. We ordered the hangar steak with some sort of fries, (they weren't fries but shaped and fried like fries, just can't remember the name) The ones that weren't way over cooked were really good. The steak was so so, a little too raw for my taste. We also ordered the macaroni and cheese. It was good just not enough for me to justify the price. Oh and for the app, it was the roasted brussels sprouts, they were alright. (I am not of fan of those things-brussels sprouts in general, but somebody else in our party ordered them so I tried them) The service was good and very friendly. Plus, I understand that they are going for the foo foo effect but just please add a little more food to the plates, perhaps a burger, for us that like to sit somewhere nice and have a little substance in us to offset the alcohol ;) We are wiling to pay! What a perfect summer evening. We dined at The Wine Bar and people watched under the trees waiting for Dudamel. The service was superb. The manager, Stefan, allowed us to taste several different wines and paired them well with the appetizers and entrees he helped us choose. Our server, Heather, was just a delight. She made sure we had everything we needed and timed our several courses perfectly. We started with fresh kusshi oysters which were delectable and served perfectly with a mignotte sauce. Then we had the spring salad with ripe heirloom tomatoes and chunks of cantaloupe which was really light and delicious. Next we tried the brussel sprouts which were honestly very special. They came roasted with manchego cheese and hazelnuts, it was decadent and very satisfying. I've never had white gazpacho (in fact I've lived in Spain and never even heard of white gazpacho before), so we tried it last night and I truly was taken aback. It was so complex and savory with dungeness crab and almonds. It was one of the most interesting dishes I've had in a long time. We also had the seafood bowl and dipped the bread in every last bit of the sauce that we could scoop up. Lastly we finished off with my favorite dish of the evening: a squid ink pasta with salmon roe. Lush. I forgot to mention that before the wine we started with the Sparkling Spectacular, one of their specialty cocktails made from sparkling wine, strawberries, and soju. It was very refreshing. I really can't express enough how magical the night was: sitting outdoors with the cool breeze, the excitement of people getting ready to see a show, the impeccable service, exquisite food, and pleasurable cocktails and wine. I went to the new Wine Bar at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday night and had the best time!! It is the perfect place to grab dinner and drinks before a show. We started with some of their soju cocktails and I couldn't believe how delicious and refreshing they were! We had an array of food and I must say I didn't try one bad thing. The gazpacho was fantastic. I'm not usually a huge chicken wing fan, but we tried those and they were so tasty and flavorful. My favorite dish that we had was the melon and burrata salad (with honeycomb!). It was so unique and had a great sweet/salty combo. We tried a few wines as well and had some great suggestions that went so well with our food. Overall just a great experience that I would highly recommend to any Hollywood Bowl patrons! read more
