There was only one other couple tasting, so we were given a lot of attention by Michael, the Tasting Room Manager. Besides explaining each wine, he told about the winery's history, and we talked about his own career. It was like talking to a new friend. We also got to know the other couple. The wines were fantastic. Finding out that my wife is not a fan of dry wines, he did a great job of pouring some wines that were not on the normal flight menu. He also got her to try a Chardonnay, something she usually hates, and surprise, surprise, she like it! He also broke out some others like a port and a dessert wine. Happy wife, happy like, right? I got the same treatment as he started to understand what I liked. We didn't want to be carrying around anything heavy, and we weren't looking to buy a case for shipment, but we'll definitely be ordering from the website in the near future.

First off I have to mention that the staff is not only super knowledgeable but friendly and humble. Prime Cellars is one of two brands being tasted at this location, the other being Trahan Winery. They each seem to have a Yelp page though both wineries are in the one tasting room. Ill post this review on the Trahan page as well. We chose to taste their current releases which was a pretty diverse selection of whites and reds from both wineries including a very good Pinot Noir from Trahan Winery. We were also kind of blown away by the Trahan Petit Verdot. Sold! Ended up with a bottle of each. In most tasting rooms the winery usually only provides one glass. Not at Prime, they go the extra step and pair their wines with the appropriate style of wine glass. We actually asked about this and was offered a side by side of the Trahan Pinot with in two different styles of glasses. Yes, two completely different glasses, same wine, two completely different experiences. So when you're doing your tasting be sure to take note of the style of glass being used. What a great experience. Take a chance and stop in, you'll be glad you did.

I'm not sure of her name, but she was wearing a black shirt and had dirty blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. She looked unpleasant and like she wasn't happy to be there. Normally, I wouldn't write about someone I didn't directly interact with, but I can't get over the way she spoke to her coworker, Shea. She was condescending and bossed her around. At one point, I watched her interrupt Shea while she was helping other guests by calling out to her from behind the bar. She didn't seem to care about any of the patrons, almost as if they were an inconvenience. Will definitely be back but only when the sour grape isn't working.

He walked me through my various tasting options based on preference, and got me set with a flight to my liking. He entertained my several questions about the process of wine making and whatnot and didn't hesitate to provide more in-depth responses. (I learned a lot and appreciate the time!) The mencia I found to be intriguing because it was so unique to me on the nose- I got more of a toast/smoked/fire on the nose but smooth and drinkable. I had this is my HH glass for the evening. Purchase wise, I took home the Picpoul Orange, as it isn't something I have ever had in my stock and will be perfect for when summer in Manteca hits, next to the pool! When in Napa it's hard to find places where you don't feel like you're priced out before you ever make your way through the threshold, but No Love Lost provides that perfect balance.
