Well it's not often that Yelp fails me in a food crisis.... but none of the reviews I read are even remotely close to what I'm experiencing. First the delivery took longer than quoted, but I'm ok with long wait times if the food is fresh, hot, and tasty....... and there's the problem. It is none of these. If I wasn't in a location where I wasn't familiar and starving, I'd complain and ask for a refund. The food was lukewarm, and isn't very tasty in my opinion. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken, and if this is what I ordered, it's different from ANY other Kung Pao I've ever had ...... IN LIFE. The rice was less than warm, and the cheese wontons a little soggy. This is my new go to Chinese place! I used to go to another place closer to me but was continually getting sick. I order the sweet & sour chicken & fried rice every time and haven't been disappointed! Flavored well, cooked thoroughly, and prompt when I do online ordering through door dash. 02/05 update: i ordered $50 worth of chinese through yelp last week and half of the order was fine, but my rice came with all vegetables I had never seen in my rice before (I've ordered from them multiple times) and I ended up not eating it. By now, most of us probably know the background story on, "The Wok..." But in-case you don't, according to the RocWiki it was opened by the same owner, Wayne Luong, of the former Wok With You. The Wok has been open about a year now and in that timeframe I have ordered there a handful of times. The dining room is nice and I'm looking forward to eating-in, sometime in the near future. The Wok is a welcome addition to the Brooks Landing neighborhood. It never seems overly busy in the restaurant, but we have seen nice crowds on a couple of occasions. The food is average. I did not like their shrimp pad thai. I'm not sure if it was a precursor to the Thai category on the menu or if I just got a really bad batch? The customer service is good and very friendly. As noted by a fellow Yelper, they were closed for about a month prior to July 5th. I'm not sure if this is going to be an annual thing or not, but when I spoke to the kind lady at the front desk, she explained that she was on vacation in Vietnam. As for the rating, I'll have to take the classic line, "this is really closer 3 1/2 stars." Will be sure to update if anything changes. read more

On my first visit I went here for a meeting and was distracted from the experience by some intense conversation. This is what I can vouch for...its a great place to meet. The food was good (phat thai) and it was a place that wasn't too overwhelming to have a good meeting or conversation. I certainly plan to return an explore the menu a bit more. .......... For some reason, I always assumed this was a take-out only place with mediocre food (I tend to be skeptical of places that claim to do Chinese! Thai! Sushi! Everything!) , and was pleasantly surprised when I finally visited for lunch. They have an awesome selection of bubble teas, and you can ask to have it more or less sweet depending on your personal taste! I tried the mango (this was recommended to me by the server), and it was delicious. Kind of like a ice cream sherbet / smoothie at the top, so I can't wait to come back on a hot summer's day to get another. I had the Thai Basil Pork, and it was solid. Not the best ever, but definitely solid. Super good value for the price -- $7.95 for lunch and I had leftovers. Fast service and friendly staff. read more

More like 4.25 stars for me, had the Thai fried rice with shrimp yummy, bubble tea---good but different than what I get in Rockville more milky like taste not my preference when ordering fruit based bubbly....but I like will keep going back when I am in the area for school:) So much better than what I'm used to back in the DMV, good portions not greasy, totally clean and nice service. For $10.95, I got a substantial and pretty tasty dish of tofu pad thai, and for an additional $4 and change, I got diced mango with sticky rice. It was very satisfying, and I will mention that the GrubHub delivery was significantly faster than anticipated, so big points for that. They also do have a very extensive menu with fairly solid and well-composed dishes; it's not the low end of Chinese takeout by any means, at least not for Rochester. My only caveat is that my girlfriend ordered a dish that was stated to come with rice, and it did not come with rice. Other than that, I was very satisfied with my meal. Definitely a worthy place to order Chinese takeout from. They have a location just over the river from University of Rochester, on Genesee Street, which I have not visited. read more

Got the Thai basil fried rice for delivery. Delivery was within the estimated time but slow (took 45 minutes). The food was nothing to write home about. The rice was overcooked and had no flavor. I didn't come by any basil and needed to add salt to get it to be edible. Unfortunately I had to eat it cause the driver already left and I was starving. A waste of $20.40. More like 3.25 Ordered delivery for dinner last night. Good vegetarian options, but the Pad See Ew that I ordered was over the top greasy. Perhaps that's how it is traditionally made, but it isn't what I was expecting. On the other hand, the sides I ordered (steamed broccoli & crispy tofu) were excellent. I also appreciate that they fulfilled my request for lots of spicy sauce! Over all, if and when I'm in the area again, I'd reorder. Terrible just got our order 20 minutes ago and it was WRONG first because I'd ordered general Tso and received orange chicken I presume with no side of rice which we later found to be the noodles for the pho (unlabeled to know what it was). The fried dumplings were in an egg roll bag and lacked any flavor and were hard. The pho broth lacked seasoning. We received no condiments like soy sauce or duck sauce or a dumpling sauce. Miso soup taste like boiled tofu and with a hint of seaweed. Overall awful. Never ordering from here again. If anything I'd suggest trying them out as a dine in possibly but I'm not going to risk it. Ordered rice noodles with tofu and veggies, gluten free. Peppery flavor, not too oily, vegetables were colorful and tasted fresh. Got it to go and it was ready in under 10 minutes. Brisk service by an older Asian lady who I figured owns the place. The place is quite spartan on the inside, almost no ambience save for a colorful fish tank and a small Buddhist display. But the food was delicious. They do deliver. They ask for a $10 minimum on cards. read more

Very close to campus so extremely convenient for U of R students that are sick of campus food. Their service is quick and friendly, and seems like a very family-run store. I usually order the pho which is good, standard broth, plenty of noodles and beef. Sometimes it can get a little salty and the basil and string beans seem old but for the price and small store I dont expect much. I've also ordered their pad thai a few times and its usually sweet, probably won't be trying to eat that too many times. Their milk tea is also very very sweet, not my favourite, tastes like straight sugar. Overall would come again since it's so close, but if I had other options probably wouldn't. read more

I've been here twice and food is really decent. On my last visit I had the chicken and lemon grass. This dish is amazing. The sesame chicken is also very very tasty and cooked well. My boyfriend and I got delivery via GrubHub last week from The Wok. It arrived promptly and was overall quite delicious! We especially enjoyed the turnip cakes and edamame. My boyfriend raved about the lo mein with chicken. I ordered the sesame chicken with brown rice which was tasty but I had to cut it up significantly as the chicken pieces were huge. I also got BBQ pork buns which I ate for lunch the next day. We'll have to give the sit-down experience a try here sometime as overall we had nothing negative to say about our experience with this delivery order! read more

Tried The Wok last night with a friend before going to an open mic at Brue Coffee. It was pretty empty inside only a couple other groups dining, but that doesn't bother me. We were seated immediately and given menus. The have a wide variety of Asian cuisines! Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and sushi. I got the steak pho (under their Vietnamese section). It was delicious and a great deal! You get a giant bowl with noodles, broth, and meat, plus they give you a plate of sprouts, fresh basil, and lime wedges as well as a small bowl of spicy sauce to add as you please. The steak was very tender and the dish overall was very flavorful and filling and only $8! The only draw back was there were quiet a few fruit flies bugging me during the meal. A couple of years ago, a restaurant called Wok With You closed its doors at the commercial complex at RIT. I was disappointed, especially because a favorite menu item was Roast Duck Noodle Soup, which I've never seen elsewhere. . Today we discovered The Wok on Genesee St. It's owned by the same man and my duck soup is still on the menu. The atmosphere isn't as "fancy", but the staff is super friendly. We finished our meal by sharing a piece of green tea cheesecake, which was fantastic. Give them a try. read more

As a U of R student, I always Wok by this place. Finally tried some of their offerings and they did not disappoint! Thai fried rice with shrimp was tasty and came with ample shrimp. And the chow fun was nicely done. One of my friends had a milk tea but it looked like the cup was a good 2/3 full of ice. Maybe ask for less ice if you're in the milk tea market. Otherwise, I will be back next time I'm feeling to lazy to cook! It won't make you hate yourself afterwards, like the Panda Express on campus (that ain't food...). read more

First time going here. It wasn't super busy. I thought it was going to be kind of dingy, but WOW was I wrong. The food was mind-blowingly fantastic. I loved every last bite of it, as did everyone else in my party. Our server was super polite, funny, and the service was extremely prompt. By the end of my meal, it made me sad that there weren't more people eating there! Seriously, this is probably the best place I have eaten at in SUCH a long time. The Wok's food is always delicious, authentic, and consistent. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to make a customer happy. Some of my favorite dishes are the fresh shrimp spring rolls, turnip cake with egg, salt and pepper shrimp, any stir fried noodle or soup noodle dish, chicken pad thai, moo goo gai pan, happy family. The owner recently opened Red Tea Room next door in Brooks Landing where the coffee café used to be. We have been getting the most amazing Vietnamese banh minh sandwiches from there, chicken and pork; the pate used, that is an integral part of a banh minh sandwich, is the best I've ever tasted. read more

Got the General Tso's Beef and it was the most disgusting thing I've ordered before. Half the bowl was cold almost like they just threw it in the microwave before sending it out to be delivered. Broccoli was old and rotted. Threw it away after 3 bites since I couldnt get over how disgusting the texture and cold spots of the meal. The breading on the beef was practically cold and mushy when eating it. Don't order from here! Better off taking your business somewhere else that actually makes REAL food. read more
