We stopped by on a Saturday for a drink after dinner around 6pm. We were able to get a seat easily at the bar, but it did start to fill up by the time we left. The atmosphere of the bar/restaurant is really vintage and dark - we loved it! We ordered off the "Strong and Boozy" section and boy, was it strong a boozy. The Bourbon with Smoke is a really special drink as they really do make the smoke in front of you and serve the drink in a capped bottle for the smoke to infuse with the liquor. They recommend leaving the concoction in the bottle for a few minutes to allow the smoky taste to seep into the alcohol. With our drinks so strong we felt a little peckish and decided to order the mushroom dish. It did not come out as expected (we thought these were stuffed mushrooms) but we actually ended up LOVING it. The mushrooms came out cooked like stew and was delicious. Trendy, hip, art deco, cool bartender Rob, awesome cocktails & an overall great vibe. No pretentious people, just a cocktail menu of maybe 30 to 40 ranging from shaken or stirred or maybe both. My favorite is a bourbon concoction which comes in a decanter with smoke from japanese oak. I love sitting at the bar just to watch the bartenders make these drinks. The drinks are typical for downtown LA which could start at $15, I know mine was $20 but it's equivallent to 2 whiskey glass. This is by far my 2nd favorite bar in DTLA. read more

I went to The Wolves for the first time two weeks ago and it's definitely one of my favorite bars now! First, it's just so beautiful! I love DTLA for all of the character and charm it offers and The Wolves is no exception to that. Second, I just had a really nice comfortable night there hahah I know that may sound weird, but as I get older, I'm losing my tolerance for places where I can't find seating, it's too loud or too crowded so it's just really important to me that I'm comfortable. My two friends and I got there around 9:30pm on a Saturday and were able to get one of their booths. The best thing was that they have waiters to bring drinks to you! There was no having to go and fight at the bar to get a drink. It was so nice. I'm not sure at what time they stop that, but we were there until about midnight and our waiter was still serving us. Then finally, the drinks were so good! They were really well made and delicious. I'll 100% be back to The Wolves and recommending it to all my friends :) read more

Like everyone else, the ambiance and architecture in this place is exquisite. Chef's kisses! I would recommend this place even just to look at the place and enjoy a drink or two. I got very lucky and got invited by a friend to do a drink tour around LA and got VIP seating upstairs with Kevin Lee as our bartender. It was an amazing experience. Sadly, Kevin isn't there as a bartender any longer. He brought out all different types of vermouths that they make in-house. Most of all, I really enjoyed how different each glass was, unique to the drink and antique. Gave it a charm. I wasn't a fan of the Tiger's Milk (mezcal, man), but my partner loved her Charleston Brew. Then I took a chance on the Let Them Talk, a complex brandy drink with lavender, celery, and mushroom. My goodness, what a drink. The flavors come in phases, evolving for a solid 15-20 seconds after you swallow. A compelling and delicious experience. I don't know how I've gone this long without knowing about The Wolves, for this might be one of my new favorite bars. First off, the space is stunning. There's this huge stained glass ceiling that I overheard a server say it was original to the building. For context, the building is over 100 years old. The dark wood and low lighting gives a relaxed atmosphere to the bar as well. For drinks, I mainly stuck with the Mary Pcikford which is a rum based cocktail that wasnt overwhelming sweet. I would also reccomend getting the house burger. It's really rich and kinda messy but in the best possible way. They were also great showmanship when creating your drinks! It was interesting watching them in their environment. We tried to visit this place once, but there was a wait so we passed on it. However, this time around, we didn't have to wait at all. We just walked straight in and got seats at the bar. We ordered the Spicy Strawberry with Cucumber and Banana Cream with some Herbs. The Spicy Strawberry drink had a little heat and a great balance between the strawberry and cucumber flavor. The Banana Cream drink was very light in taste and had great floral tones. Staff are mad friendly and they really want to make your experience great. They do an excellent job explaining the food items and various drinks on their menu to help you decide what suits you best. My friends and I came by on a quiet weekday evening with the hopes that Mr. Lee also brought along with him the truly world class and maddeningly intricate mixology showcased at his former operation. I saw that he brought with him the former head bartender of puzzle, Nicholas to his new venture, already a promising sign. We perch ourselves over the beautifully decorated bar with very comfortable stools beneath us. I see the turn-of-the-century decor I read about in reviews, well done. now, on to the goods. The following cocktails were the highlights of the evening: 1. Black currant scotch=Islay scotch blend w/ house made bitters and vermouth. Simpler profile than the others but nevertheless brilliant. 2. Bourbon amaro and hops=hops infused liquid reduction cream, bourbon, housemade chocolate vermouth. It's a dessert and a drink in one, an explosion of bitter sweet flavors. 3. Clove nectarine w/ purple yams= dried plum notes and spices overwhelm the pallet, to me it tasted like a distilled steak dinner. Think it may have been the dried plums and how it reminded me of a1 sauce. a fragrant meal of a drink. 4. Banana Manhattan= my favorite of the bunch, house made fermented banana extract, plum bitters, orange liquour, wild turkey 101. A delicate punch in the face. Beautifully bold whiskey cocktail. I've been to many bars on several continents and this place is really a one of a kind. Tip: if you really want to enjoy what this bar has to offer, avoid the weekend crowds. Closed Mondays. Loved coming here on Halloween as my first time here! I heard about this place because they originally were the owners of the Puzzle bar in La Mirada and they decided to close that down to open this bar. Since they allow guests in by seating/tables, it is like waiting for a table at restaurant or how they let people in into speakeasy-like bars. I can imagine it will take a while on weekend but I only had to wait a little bit on Halloween day and I didn't mind! Their interior is beautiful and the decor is well thought out. The ambience is very historic-looking and the table settings are adorable. Like their previous bar, all their drinks are handcrafted cocktails with all housemade ingredients. All their drinks looked delicious on the menu. I got the Fall Apples with Amaro and that tasted like freshly pressed apple juice with alcohol. Kind of like hard cider from apple farms! It was great. They have a live band which make you feel like you're at Disneyland. It's very cute and matches the ambience however, in such a small space, it is a little loud. Overall, loved this place! read more

Came to check out this bar last night since I've heard so much about it from my friends who were fans of puzzle bar. This is a sit down only bar and not really good for super large groups. We got there around 9 and it was an one hour wait. The service throughout the night was amazing. We were seated exactly one hour later on the second floor loft table. It was the perfect spot to people watch and observe the busy bar actions. The decoration of the place was beautiful, I felt like I was in Paris in a different era. The kitchen closed at 10 but we got a peak of the food menu, everything looks amazing! We were given complimentary kettle corns and some peach vermouth drinks that were very appetizing. They have a huge selections of cocktails so you're bound to find something you'll love. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. I loved the Korean pear with apricot, it was refreshing and delicious. It was spritzed with bamboo fragrance, so you could smell it while you take sips of you drinks, genius. We visited The Wolves last night after reading about it on Thrillist. It is a gorgeous place that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. It has a definite Speakeasy feel. The waitresses all wear modest black dresses, and bartenders wear old-fashioned striped vests. We were seated upstairs on a balcony that overlooks the main dining room and bar, accessed by an old spiral staircase. The patio off the balcony has three small tables and is much quieter, with a nice breeze. It took us about 20 minutes to get our drinks, although the place wasn't overly crowded. We received our Beef Wellington first, which we "wolfed" down. It was good, but not great. I had the Coconut Tamarind drink, and boyfriend had the Pineapple Smoke Margarita. Both were good, but not great. There is a lounge in the back with a bar, so we headed there next. We found a table with two red velvet wingback chairs and settled in for more drinks. The lounge is also gorgeous, with leather chairs and velvet settees, and tables and chairs for drinks. I had the Banana Manhattan, which was way too strong and weird for me; and the Strawberry Lumps, my favorite drink of the night. Boyfriend had two regular martinis. Overall, this is an interesting, gorgeous place, with unique cocktails and decent food. I don't necessarily think it was right for us, but the young hipsters seem to enjoy it. read more

Went here last night with friends and overall had a great time! The doorman - AMAZING. So friendly and sweet. Good guy! His jacket was stolen while he was working- get him a new one, he deserves it!! The bartender who helped me choose drinks - super friendly and helpful. Made two great cocktails! Our original server- young female. Sadly a really rude vibe. Condescending and seemed constantly annoyed at everything. Thankfully there were two servers rotating so we quickly learned to only wait for him to take our orders. She was just too miserable that it made really uncomfortable. My whole group noticed her attitude immediately. I hate complaining about female servers so this was disappointing.
