Their beef vegetable soup on Wednesdays is amazing!! A bit pricey at $17+ for a large, but still recommend.

A friend asked me to go to lunch and suggested The Woman's Exchange. After telling her I have never been, she gasped! Living less than a mile from here, this will definitely be a frequent lunch spot. When we went there, we were quickly seated and my friend knows how much I appreciate a good salad recommended the signature salad. I saw that this was a Cobb salad, which I like, but saw other stuff on this menu that I would have rather tried. Well, I couldn't be happier that I went with her suggestion. It was one of the best Cobb salads I've ever had! Instead of the traditional way one is served, this was chopped and you were able to get every flavor with every bite! It was magical! Such a great place that today, I'm taking my friend with me that has also never been. I will still get the salad, but I'm really excited to try the chicken salad as well!! When I got home, I told my husband that he has to go there and try this, he looked at me and says, "Are you kidding me??" We cater this place in at least once a month!" I was still thinking about that salad to be disappointed that he has never shared this place with me! My friend that recommended this place to me told me she has tried everything on the menu (she said the cheese toast is a must try!!) and has always been impressed! The place is always really nice. We always get their famous salad. We love their dressing. I ask for more dressing and they always accommodate my request. All I know is, as I see others order other items, they always come out looking great. I don't eat meat, so they now have a salad without that. However, I'm really not sure why they charge the same $13 for a salad with or without meat. Oh well, I just told hem to give me the one with meat, then hold the meat and as it comes with cheese, I ask for more of that. The meatless one has no cheese. I have been eating at The Woman's Exchange since I used to fit into one of the little handmade smocked dresses they sell there. I went with a friend on Saturday for lunch. I hadn't been in a little over a year. I knew we should get there right before 12 or just at 12. We sat down at about 11:55 and sure enough each table filled up and by 12:20 there was a wait. I'm a creature of habit and when something is good it's good and I don't like to rock the boat. I, of course, ordered The Famous Woman's Exchange Salad (no ham) and ate every bite of it. I topped it off with a chocolate mint brownie because it's the best thing ever! My friend had the salad and a gooey butter cake brownie. YUM! I'm not going to wait a whole year this time to come back. The shop is better than ever also. Lovely holiday displays and nice selection. read more

It looked like this might be a lovely place for me to take my three aunts for lunch on a big shopping day. However, we got there at 1:28 PM, and were told that they were closing at 1:30 and that we could not even be seated or have a beverage. I was so excited to show them this restaurant and gift shop, and looked forward to sharing the story of how this business came to be. However the rude nature of the staff and these ridiculously short hours, which were stated to be 2 o'clock on the internet , has soured my opinion of them. In fact, I had attempted to call and make a reservation for us, and the recording said that they would not take reservations. So, I will most certainly not be back, and will share my extremely negative experience with anyone else who is interested in going there. read more

My girlfriend and I went for lunch June 1. We were seated at a banquette. She was facing out, so no fur coats this time. We both got the Famous Woman's Exchange Salad ($11) and added avocado: lettuce, chicken breast, ham, Swiss, tomato, hard-boiled egg, bacon and green onion, with the Exchange's House Dressing. It's a dang good salad (like, REALLY FABULOUS), we had a wonderful server, and we both took a lot home. There's a lot in this place related to clothing. The women's exchange is not a place where everyone one is welcomed . Walked in as an African American women with my friend who is also AA. We were greeted with open mouth stares! In 2018 . My friend and I both said hello the response was more hostile staring . The two ladies then proceeded to whisper while glancing at us . We left without even looking at a thing . What a horrible experience . It was like stepping back in time . Unless you look a certain way I would not recommend this place . Went to the Woman's Exchange today for the first time in 30 years. 1. Upon entering noticed the tables were at the most 2 feet apart. They were trying to truly maximize the dining space they had. 2. The lady that sat us was a " Volunteer" so she sat you at a table and that I believe is all she verbalized she was allowed to do. Trust me she made this known to all of the diners. She DEFINITELY DID NOT take orders, didn't know the soup of the day at all and did not offer to go to the kitchen 10 feet away to ask in the kitchen about soup for anyone. I do think I saw her clear a table. She was good at making herself look busy as we were there during lunch rush. By all means I didn't see her volunteer to do anything more than " VOLUNTEER ". If you are at a philanthropic organization one would believe you to have a personality that would be wanting to help others when they are very busy. The poor waitress was working her tushy off!!!! 3. The poor waitress was so busy it was at least 15 minutes before she had a chance to get our order. The " Volunteer" could have simply got our order and give it to the kitchen but the " Volunteer " made it clear to everyone she was a " VOLUNTEER ". I'm not quite sure what is considered VOLUNTEERING or not. This waitress was taking care of the ENTIRE room of customers which was easily 15 tables of customers. I thought that the restaurant was probably breaking some type of OSHA law by having this poor woman taking care of ALL the tables. I hope the diners left her nice tips because she was working hard. It was really sad to watch! 4. Women behind the counter where to go orders were being taken. One women was taking orders and the other I think 2 were standing around looking busy. They should have taken 10 steps back to the restaurant area to learn what busy is. 5. I will say the epic salad was still very delicious.! So, the cooks in the back get one star and I will give the poor waitress a star. As the restaurant is rated as a whole they lost my 3 stars. The salad was served with an awful English muffin that was cold with a butter Pat. I know the history of the Woman's Exchange and this today was a pathetic visual of helping others in need. The poor waitress was working without any help from people that I'm sure we're on the "special people board"to help for scholarships happen and assist less fortunate people. I am really trying to use proper etiquette in this review and hold back on inappropriate language. I do *not* understand the popularity of the "Famous Women's Exchange Salad" at all. I will give it props for being chopped up and easy to eat, but that's it. It is made with 100% iceberg lettuce, which has zero flavor. The items mixed in were scarce, and the dressing was just ok. I actually had to add salt, which I have never done with a salad. I ate it because I was hungry, but would never order it again. Since the average age of the other patrons was pretty advanced, I guess their taste buds are dead so they wouldn't know a good salad from this crap anyway. Any younger diners were drinking wine...I suppose they have to get drunk so they can pretend this salad is good. The quiche on the other hand, was delicious! Nice and hot, crispy double crust, and the top crust had a thin layer of shredded cheese baked on top of it. It was one of the better quiches I've had at a restaurant. Service started out good, but then fell completely apart. Our waitress took our order promptly, but once the food came, she never reappeared. I finally had to put my dirty plates on the empty table next to me. There is no excuse not to clear dirty plates, especially in such a small place and we were there late, so it was not packed. She did show up eventually with the check. My friend loves this place, (and the salad...really rethinking our friendship...lol), so I will go back if she wants to, and just hope they have the quiche again or take a chance that the other non-salad items on their menu don't suck. read more

Even my husband loves the salad here. Granted, when we dine in, he is one of the few and sometimes only man in the place. Other menu items are good but with such a great salad, why order anything else. Portions are generous. Dressing is available to buy and take home. The servers have been here forever. Often they know the customers from years of service. Carry out is available. Salads available with or without ham. Some of the best chocolate chip cookies around. Great hidden lunch spot! Yes, lots of 50+ ladies, but if you're not intimidated by that you love the food. I had a wonderful Asparagus Melt and glorious Gooey Butter Brownie! This is a great place! I've been going to the woman's exchange for years! It's a hidden gem, a store in the front and dining in the back! While it says woman's exchange, even if you are a man, I'd suggest trying it sometime. Highly recommend the signature salad with the house dressing, I'm not a HUGE salad girl, but this salad is one of my favorites. Also recommend the tuna salad sandwich and I recently tried the teriyaki chicken and veggies, delightful perfection. I don't think they serve any food that isn't delicious. You can get the food for carry out or can sit down and dine in the small quant dining area. Now I wouldn't go here on a first date but I would take my girlfriends here to dine and shop in a heart beat. This is the typical place my mom and I meet for lunch. They have a large variety of selections for each shoppers eye. The only thing I typically purchase there is the classic and adorable baby attire. They also will monogram! Rudest employees award! Although I don't live in STL anymore, I've stopped by the store at the Women's Exchange a couple of times for last minute baby gifts or trinkets for friends when I've been in town. The Women's Exchange is less than two minutes from my parents' home and so I pass by it frequently and it's super convenient to just walk over and pick something up. This past weekend, while I was in town, I stopped by and I will NOT be returning. I agree with a couple of the other reviewers - they only see who they want to see and help who they want to help. I was willing to give the employees here the benefit of the doubt last time I was there (spending a few hundred dollars on novelty items...), but NOT this time. I was in the store at the same time as a middle-aged white woman and they were super friendly to her and quick to ask her if she needed help. My fiance and I were the only other people in the store and they did not so much as glance in our direction as we walked in and around clearly looking for a nice baby gift (I would've loved help finding something for a 1 year old's birthday!). Only after I made a purposefully loud comment to my fiance that I couldn't believe no one was helping us, did the woman in the back begrudgingly and flippantly ask if we needed anything. I will say that both of us were dressed nicely and have money to spend (not that it should even matter), but point is, it's not like the way we physically looked or were carrying ourselves would dissuade someone from being polite to us/asking if we needed help. It clearly came down to a racial thing (we're an interracial couple). That's all I can think of. There are SO many unique stores around the Clayton/Ladue area with friendly employees that can and WILL put a place like this out of business and I doubt that many people would miss it. It's 2018. My 3 daughters and I had a yearly tradition to go to the Women's Exchange. This year was such a disappointment. The service has always been spotty at best but our experience last week was a new low. Our server was clear that she didn't want to wait on us and she would come around to her tables with tunnel vision. She only saw who she wanted to see. She ignored us for approx 20 min. We needed more dressing for the salads (there was barely any dressing on them) and the sandwich my daughter ordered came on the wrong bread. When we finally got her attention, she picked up the plate (with an attitude) and took it back to the kitchen. My daughter's fork was still on the plate. It was obvious all that was done was the chicken salad was scraped onto the new bread. The fork was still on the plate when she brought it back. That's not really sanitary. This is not an inexpensive place to go have lunch. It gets old being treated bad and then they expect a generous tip. I'm done with the Women's Exchange. And the shop in front- NO customer service. It's unfortunate that a place that started with such good intentions has gotten so far off track. read more

Used to love this place and couldn't wait for the salad after not going here for a year, and it was so disappointing, little of the special dressing and simply not what it used to be. Oh, well, and the new location is so much smaller and simply a big disappointment. but I love that it helps women who need funds. read more

I have gone to The Woman's Exchange with my mother since I was a little girl. Although the previous location was bigger and more centrally located, this one also has a nice, quiet atmosphere. I love the salad, of course. I always plan to try something new, but end up ordering the salad. I am sure everything is very good. read more
