Hidden gem of Boulder! Quaint, authentic, memorable, delicious - everything I'm looking for in a special place to enjoy with friends and for out of town guests. The food is always extremely fresh (the bread and bakery items are made in-house) & it's really refreshing to meet people that are truly passionate about the food they are making. Every time I go I find something new I am absolutely wild for. My favorite sandwich at the moment is the Deli Rose: warm corned beef (I didn't even know I liked corned beef), hot pepper jack cheese, provolone, onions, tomato, mayo, mustard, special sauce on an onion roll. I actually crave this for days after I eat there it is just so incredible. The soups are also quite good and the artisan bread it is served with is hearty and unforgettable. The full body buzz mate tea is also a must have. My favorite beverages are the peach mate, and green chai latte. The mate is also sold at the restaurant. Definitely don't forget to pick up some banana bread (deluxe banana bread is not only heated up for you but served with slices of fresh fruit on top). We had the most wonderful family lunch here. The service was friendly and attentive and had a small town feel like they really cared about their food and making sure we felt like family. This place is awesome! I knew it was going to be great right when I walked in (2am). The music and the decor are usually things I don't really care about, but it's very peaceful inside. I just flew in from San Diego, and it made me feel like I was definitely in Boulder. The man working let me sample tea (his recommendation + very nice), and he also recommended the turkey and roast beef sandwich I believe. I got the turkey. It was hot, and amazing. In a place that looks like Frontierland at Disney World, a great sandwich is handcrafted using delicious meats and cheeses. You can choose to build your own, but partner, you should try the creations already on the menu. I've had the Chicken on the Ranch sandwich! Man, was it tasty. The chicken was sliced like cold cuts and it lent a good texture to the sandwich. I paired it with a cup of the tomato soup. The combo was a match made in heaven! The tomato soup was creamy and robust! My boyfriend had the Chai Tea, which came in an adorable yellow mug and tasted fantastic. He made his own sandwich, and he liked it! My only issue, barely an issue, but something I want to warn you about, with the experience was the service. It was a little slow, probably because there was one server (I think) for the whole place. Had the Reuben. Quite literally the best sandwich I've ever had. Not much else to say about that. Coffee was delicious and strong. Banana milk- what's that? This place. I felt like I stepped into a different world while I dined at The Yellow Deli; The music was soft and twangy, woodsy seating, bushel basket lighting fixtures, painted wall murals. The menu is focused on their hot deli sandwiches (with a side of chips or veggie bowl which is a little ramekin of fresh raw vegetable slices with a drizzle of dressing). I got a create your own sandwich of roast beef, provolone, mayo, and sprouts on a sourdough Kaiser bun. It was delicious- they don't go light on anything. First off, RUDE staff! Not one smile from both our first waiter or our second waitress. We sat near the door so I was able to see and hear the waitress wave her hand to her side and tell some new patrons "ugh, just sit over there". The waitress didn't come back to our table and check on us till we were done. Then when we ordered some food to go for someone we got the wrong side with it. We politely asked if we can get that side swapped out for what we ordered, the same waitress rolled her eyes and exhaled strongly and said, "Fine". The first waiter was very stern and not friendly and was not seen at our table again after taking our order. It also took almost the entire meal to get a refill on my water. The food I ordered was not good. I tried to give it a chance and take a second bite but I couldn't even do that. My friend who likes this place and eats here regularly tried a bite and couldn't even eat more than that either! However the side chips that they serve with the meal were good. I had heard about the Yellow deli for a while and finally decided to visit the place for lunch. I will admit that I have a very hard time giving an objective review after reading so much about the twelve tribes cult that operates this deli. Anyway, let's get to the food. My warm Spring Chicken sandwich was very tasty, moist and thick with avocado, cheese, chipotle chicken and a yummy sauce. My husband's Deli rose sandwich was also very good, generous on beef. Both came with a side of chips. Unfortunately, I was too full to taste their dessert, which I can only imagine is also very good. They won't switch bread on their signature sandwiches, which I found unusual (my husband has asked for kaiser instead of onion roll). Personally, I can't blame them, after all, I imagine they tried various options and decided which works best for each signature sandwich. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere of the place quite...unique. There is a hippy vibe, and I'll admit I felt a little out of place... Dark and rustic (looks old, but they opened about 5 years ago), with booths that are inviting and intimate. But I like contemporary and bright places so this is quite a stretch for me. The menu is limited - sandwiches, salads, some desserts. That's fine because we wanted a quick, light lunch. The service was not too good. Our waitress didn't ask us for our choices for optional items on the menu, e.g. whether we wanted chips or veggies with a sandwich, salad dressing. I could understand them not asking If there was a default choice on the menu but that wasn't the case. We waited a long time for a turkey sandwich and a chef salad, probably 15 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded. The waitress never came to refill drinks or give a food update. Another person, possibly the manager, came by and refilled our teas. The food was fine. Just wish the service was better. read more

The Yellow Deli is an incredibly interesting establishment. It has a notably unique atmosphere. The employees are all part of a belief system, which strongly influenced their demeanor. They are polite, but seem disconnected from cultural norms. All in all, if you go here you will notice a hippie, environmental, free-spirit ambiance. If you are comfortable with that, the food is pretty good. Had the reuben, and loved the sauerkraut. I definitely enjoy the food here, but the atmosphere can sometimes make me feel uncomfortable (I have nothing against them though!). read more

I had been previously to the Common Ground, which is in Hyannis Massachusetts and it was amazing so when I found they have a similar restaurant in Boulder I was so excited to try it! I come here frequently and always order the cranberry cashew salad with turkey and avocado. Today the nice woman serving us forgot to put it on and she made sure to apologize and take it off the check along with giving us a free homemade chocolate chip cookie!! How sweet. I also ordered a cup of chili and it was delicious. My boyfriend got the deli rose and he thought it was super good. All their breads are homemade and every meal tastes like it was made with love.
