I had really high expectations for this place, but unfortunately it fell short for me. I enjoyed the coffee and the eggs, but that was about it. I ordered the French toast as well and was SO excited for it. To the eye, it looks realllllyyy good. To the taste buds...not so much. I was very disappointed. No flavor at all in the toast itself. I had to drown it in syrup in order to taste anything. It's like the batter the bread was dipped in had nothing to it at all. After seeing the reviews for this place, I was really excited to try it, but after my experience, I'm very hesitant to go back. read more

I loved this place. I had some friends visiting and we needed something cheap in the North End for breakfast. I got the breakfast special which was such a perfect amount of food. The eggs were great, the toast was well buttered, and the home fries were absolutely perfect! Oh and it came with a coffee included in the meal too. and the best part was it was only 12 dollars! One of my friends got the egg BLT which looked great as well and she loved it. The space was a bit small so i imagine it would get busy on Fridays and the weekends, maybe even boasting a bit of a wait, but i think it's well worth it. People have complained that they didn't know it was cash only, but there is a pretty prominent sign on the door i noticed as we walked up and we stopped at an atm before we went in. The staff was so incredibly polite and friendly, our waitress was very helpful with suggesting what to get and made the process of ordering a customizable meal super easy! Another staff member came by and made sure we were enjoying our meal and made some conversation. I'm so glad we tried this place out. The food is very good especially from the price point and the staff are interacted with were all very kind. read more

We were looking for a place where the locals eat - and found it at Theos! It's not fancy - tiny inside - but food, service, and atmosphere were amazing! I had eggs with pancakes and sausage, wife had eggs with bacon and potatoes- both were very good. Coffee was hot and plentiful! If we lived in Boston, we'd be regulars here! read more

This is what an authentic small Italian breakfast location in Boston's north end should be! The restaurant is true to its name: a cozy corner, seating about twenty people. The service was great, and the breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast) was perfect. It is hard to mess up this type of food, but the uniqueness of the location and family-owned business makes it something very special. Please enjoy! read more

BOM DÍA! Theo's is an amazing experience. My sons went right when they opened and there was no line; the rest of my family and I went later on around 10am and there was a line out the door. Regardless of the long line, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly to each of us and it is first come, first serve, rules. The restaurant ambiance is great - everyone was smiling because the food is so delicious! The prices are very fair, especially for a major city like Boston. They do have a restroom which is in the basement through the kitchen. I didn't mind it at all. Must try - hot chocolate - they steam it and fill it with a whipped cream float on top. We also had these items - THE BIG BOY - 3 eggs cooked to your liking with or without cheese, 3 sausages, 3 slices of bacon, and 3 pancakes. I chose scrambled with cheddar - it was all perfectly cooked. I consider myself an expert at cooking pancakes and these were equal or better than to what I am accustomed. CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES with strawberries - amazing - kids went bonkers over it. The pancakes are thick and giant - I didn't see anyone finishing the pancakes because they are so huge. Syrup was on each table and was standard. CHICKEN QUESADILLA - grilled chicken, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese - it was perfectly done! I highly recommend Theo's and they speak English and Brazilian Portuguese. read more

THE cutest corner breakfast place. It's tight seating but such a fun experience. Theo and Regina were so nice and took great care of us. If you like coffee, this place has the best coffee I have ever had. The pancakes are amazing. We had our baby in carseat/stroller and they were accommodating with seating. Super friendly and definitely recommend every time. Will be coming back when I visit again. It is cash only, come prepared(we didn't, but it was ok). read more

About a 15-20 min wait on a Saturday morning but well worth it! Everything came out perfect down to the cheese they selected for our eggs. Pancakes were delicious and best I've had in a long time! If I could come here on a regular basis, I would but unfortunately I'm from out of town! If you're in Boston, come here for breakfast! read more

It's a no frills North End diner that outperforms because they are very focused on what they do. Small capacity. Friendly service with large portions and well prepared food. Mostly breakfast/brunch based on what I saw. Coffee was surprisingly good. It's cash-only so plan accordingly. I did not try the Brazilian style breakfasts but the menu is pretty broad for a small place so it's a place you can return to. Their hot sauce is for real hot if you like that on your eggs. Corned beef hash was crispy without me having to order it that way (kudos!) and eggs were done exactly as I wanted. read more

This is the best breakfast that I've had in a while. Regina was our server and she was a joy. There were smiles and hellos upon arrival. It's a small spot so we are close. The ingredients were fresh. I didn't leave weighted down or uncomfortable. The food was amazing. It was seasoned. Perfect portions. Everyone finished their plates. The cappuccino was heavenly. Not only was it beautiful in presentation with whipped cream, but it was the best one that I've had in years. read more

From the moment we were greeted by "Renato" And our waitress... "Regina"...we knew we found the right place! My husband ordered the Italian sausage and pepper omelette which was AMAZING... so many flavors! and I ordered the egg sandwich on an English muffin with bacon! The best egg sandwich ever had!! With plans to take a big exam around the area at noon, I came to grab breakfast about 30 minutes after they opened. I made sure to sit in the corner of the space so that I did not take up a lot of real estate, hoping that I was going to be able to study there for a little bit. After having paid for my meal, I stuck around to study for another 30 minutes or so. I checked in with my waiter to see if it was OK in which he said it was no problem as long as other people didn't come in. Soon after, I moved to the small little bar area so that I was more out-of-the-way. It was then when I believe it was the owner or somebody who must have worked there, made a comment that "this isn't a Starbucks" and I shouldn't be sticking around longer than my meal. This caused me to feel incredibly uncomfortable in which I left right away. If curious, I ordered the special breakfast with sausage requesting for the home fries instead of the toast and coffee which the waiter happily obliged. It was your typical all American breakfast with subpar pancakes. Overall, food was decent but that last encounter left a very sour taste in my mouth. I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Our first morning in historic Boston, and immediately after Sunday Mass, we found ourselves famished and wanting some hot Java and a taste for a true local breakfast spot. Walking past the old north church of Revolutionary War fame, we spied the famous Theo's and decided that in spite of the 20 people already ahead of us in line that we'd wait and see if the food recommendations were accurate. They were. Theo's has been here for three generations. This illustrious and super hard working Portuguese family has become an icon of the Little Italy neighborhood that it borders. It therefore was no surprise to see the small dining area packed and an adjacent sidewalk commandeered to serve as outdoor dining with 4-5 fully packed tables. We loved the fact that one of the senior family members came out periodically to let us know just how much longer it would be. This establishment truly treats their customers with great love and respect! Eventually we were seated and partook of some excellent coffee while we waiting for our order (steak & eggs, and spicy sausage/spinach omelette with homemade hash, home fries and wheat toast). The repast was sublime and we treasured every bite and every sip. Recommend you get there early to grab a table since they don't take reservations and everything is first come first served. Also recommend you leave room for dessert because 200 meters down the street is the most delicious Italian bakery serving authentic cannoli.... But that's for another review. For a hole in the wall in the North End, I was pleased. Delicious breakfast, very nice people working there. Stick with the menu items otherwise it can turn into a very pricey endeavor. $24 for the entree, two eggs, Canadian bacon, and orange juice is quite a lot. No reservations and you'll most likely wait in line, but the service is so quick I doubt you'd wait more than 39 minutes. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, lots of options for all taste buds too. However, do not even try to come with a party bigger than 2 people. This place is cramped, you'll be lucky to find room for your coat. Great brunch find in North End but not sure I'd suffer through the tightness again for it. read more

My friends and I made plans to get lunch at a local place and I found Theo's through Yelp. As we walked up, we noticed a small line and the restaurant was full, which felt like a great sign for the quality of the restaurant. After waiting approximately 20 minutes, we were seated at the counter. Come prepared for a tight space, yet the quaintness feels perfect for a family owned and cozy restaurant. The staff are attentive and extremely kind. I ordered the Chocolate French Toast with a side of home fries and sausage, while my friends ordered the Steak and Eggs breakfast plate and Corned Beef and Hash breakfast plate. None of us has a thing to complain about! All three of us thoroughly enjoyed the food. We were all impressed with how flavorful and large the dishes were, given how reasonably priced they are. While we were there for brunch, we also noticed they had Italian dishes (perfectly fitting, given its location in the North End), as well as Portuguese dishes. There are a multitude of options for anyone! I posted about having brunch at Theo's on my Instagram story and had so many friends express interest in either going in the future or having gone in the past with overwhelming positive experiences. We ordered a Diet Coke, the Scampi appetizer, Carbonara, and the Rigatoni Alla Vodka. The scampi was easily the best part of the meal. It was flavorful, cooked well, and made for a nice appetizer to start things off. Unfortunately, the pastas didn't quite meet expectations, especially considering the price. The Rigatoni Alla Vodka was $28, but the pasta wasn't cooked al dente and felt overdone. The Carbonara, also $28, was disappointing as the eggs had curdled and the dish ended up being much oilier than I expected. At $18, the scampi was enjoyable, but overall I don't think the food justified the price point. One bright spot was the service. Our waitress was incredibly kind, checked in on us frequently, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a very aesthetic design. I can definitely see why it's popular on social media. There is also outdoor seating, which I imagine would be a nice option on a warm summer evening. One thing I did notice, though, is how closely the tables are spaced together. I was honestly surprised by the meal because Gigi is part of the Mazi Restaurant Group, and I've really enjoyed some of their other concepts, especially Kava Neo-Taverna. Based on this experience, though, I think there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Boston that offer better food and better value for the same price. Overall, I'd give Gigi 3/5 stars. The service and atmosphere were both strong, but the food didn't live up to the pricing. If I came back, it would probably be for drinks, appetizers, and the ambiance rather than a full Italian dinner.

Even knowing it's a calorie bomb, I couldn't resist dipping it in more. Baccala Mantecato: Classic Venetian flavor. The salted cod was tender and delicate, almost like a light foam, somewhere between raw silk and mousse; the dark bread was simple yet not coarse, perfectly balancing the saltiness of the cod. The most surprising thing was the refreshing aroma of celery leaves that emerged in the aftertaste, lingering and persistent. Lumache: When looking at the menu, seeing "chili butter, Jonah crab, breadcrumb," I never expected such a distinct citric acidity. The subtle acidity was gently enveloped in the fatty aroma of chili butter, perfectly complementing the umami and sweetness of the crab meat with just the right amount of spiciness. The lumache were firm and chewy, the sauce rich and smooth, and the breadcrumbs light and crisp, creating a rich and distinct texture. The portion was generous; even after microwaved the next day, the sauce had naturally broken down and the lemon's tartness had dissipated, but the noodles mixed with chili oil still had a unique flavor. Tiramisu: Highly renowned, and the staff were quite confident. The surface was covered with a thick layer of crispy cocoa nibs, the cake itself is incredibly soft and moist, and digging inside reveals an "underground river" of coffee liquid, while its bitterness was perfectly balanced by the sweet Marsala.
