Sometimes there is a wait and you might think it might not be worth it - just wait it out. Food is definitely worth the sometimes ~30 minute wait. Waking up slightly late on a weekend after a night of drinking and having a plate of eggs, sausage, home fries, toast and pancake in front of you is a very satisfying feeling. Pair that up with some diner coffee (don't take this the wrong way, I love diner coffee) and you feel like your world is complete. They also have this special in-house made hot sauce which can be a little hot at times, but it'll definitely provides a nice kick that helps you finish off that plate of food. Slightly crammed in there at times, but I think it just adds to the charm of this place. Can go wrong with a no frills diner that serve some awesome breakfast food! Eggs are over medium and for the mean chose sausage & whole wheat toast and pancakes were blueberry pancakes. Honestly it is a lot of food at first it doesn't look like a lot but when you get started it becomes a lot which is a good thing. The pancakes are fluffy and the blueberries were nice and sweet. I had really high expectations for this place, but unfortunately it fell short for me. I enjoyed the coffee and the eggs, but that was about it. I ordered the French toast as well and was SO excited for it. To the eye, it looks realllllyyy good. To the taste buds...not so much. I was very disappointed. No flavor at all in the toast itself. I had to drown it in syrup in order to taste anything. It's like the batter the bread was dipped in had nothing to it at all. BOM DÍA! Theo's is an amazing experience. My sons went right when they opened and there was no line; the rest of my family and I went later on around 10am and there was a line out the door. Regardless of the long line, the waitstaff was attentive and friendly to each of us and it is first come, first serve, rules. The restaurant ambiance is great - everyone was smiling because the food is so delicious! The prices are very fair, especially for a major city like Boston. They do have a restroom which is in the basement through the kitchen. I didn't mind it at all. Must try - hot chocolate - they steam it and fill it with a whipped cream float on top. We also had these items - THE BIG BOY - 3 eggs cooked to your liking with or without cheese, 3 sausages, 3 slices of bacon, and 3 pancakes. I chose scrambled with cheddar - it was all perfectly cooked. I consider myself an expert at cooking pancakes and these were equal or better than to what I am accustomed. CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES with strawberries - amazing - kids went bonkers over it. The pancakes are thick and giant - I didn't see anyone finishing the pancakes because they are so huge. Syrup was on each table and was standard. CHICKEN QUESADILLA - grilled chicken, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese - it was perfectly done! Theo's is a small restaurant on a quaint side street. It is small and seems like a local hangout. The owner is from Brazil and seems to take a hands on approach. I loved this place. I had some friends visiting and we needed something cheap in the North End for breakfast. I got the breakfast special which was such a perfect amount of food. The eggs were great, the toast was well buttered, and the home fries were absolutely perfect! Oh and it came with a coffee included in the meal too. and the best part was it was only 12 dollars! One of my friends got the egg BLT which looked great as well and she loved it. The space was a bit small so i imagine it would get busy on Fridays and the weekends, maybe even boasting a bit of a wait, but i think it's well worth it. People have complained that they didn't know it was cash only, but there is a pretty prominent sign on the door i noticed as we walked up and we stopped at an atm before we went in. The staff was so incredibly polite and friendly, our waitress was very helpful with suggesting what to get and made the process of ordering a customizable meal super easy! Another staff member came by and made sure we were enjoying our meal and made some conversation. I'm so glad we tried this place out. It's a no frills North End diner that outperforms because they are very focused on what they do. Small capacity. Friendly service with large portions and well prepared food. Mostly breakfast/brunch based on what I saw. Coffee was surprisingly good. It's cash-only so plan accordingly. I did not try the Brazilian style breakfasts but the menu is pretty broad for a small place so it's a place you can return to. Their hot sauce is for real hot if you like that on your eggs. With plans to take a big exam around the area at noon, I came to grab breakfast about 30 minutes after they opened. I made sure to sit in the corner of the space so that I did not take up a lot of real estate, hoping that I was going to be able to study there for a little bit. After having paid for my meal, I stuck around to study for another 30 minutes or so. I checked in with my waiter to see if it was OK in which he said it was no problem as long as other people didn't come in. Soon after, I moved to the small little bar area so that I was more out-of-the-way. It was then when I believe it was the owner or somebody who must have worked there, made a comment that "this isn't a Starbucks" and I shouldn't be sticking around longer than my meal. This caused me to feel incredibly uncomfortable in which I left right away. If curious, I ordered the special breakfast with sausage requesting for the home fries instead of the toast and coffee which the waiter happily obliged. It was your typical all American breakfast with subpar pancakes. Overall, food was decent but that last encounter left a very sour taste in my mouth. Our first morning in historic Boston, and immediately after Sunday Mass, we found ourselves famished and wanting some hot Java and a taste for a true local breakfast spot. Walking past the old north church of Revolutionary War fame, we spied the famous Theo's and decided that in spite of the 20 people already ahead of us in line that we'd wait and see if the food recommendations were accurate. They were. Theo's has been here for three generations. This illustrious and super hard working Portuguese family has become an icon of the Little Italy neighborhood that it borders. It therefore was no surprise to see the small dining area packed and an adjacent sidewalk commandeered to serve as outdoor dining with 4-5 fully packed tables. We loved the fact that one of the senior family members came out periodically to let us know just how much longer it would be. This establishment truly treats their customers with great love and respect! Eventually we were seated and partook of some excellent coffee while we waiting for our order (steak & eggs, and spicy sausage/spinach omelette with homemade hash, home fries and wheat toast). The repast was sublime and we treasured every bite and every sip. Recommend you get there early to grab a table since they don't take reservations and everything is first come first served. Also recommend you leave room for dessert because 200 meters down the street is the most delicious Italian bakery serving authentic cannoli.... But that's for another review. For a hole in the wall in the North End, I was pleased. Delicious breakfast, very nice people working there. Stick with the menu items otherwise it can turn into a very pricey endeavor. $24 for the entree, two eggs, Canadian bacon, and orange juice is quite a lot.
